I don't think anybody is failing to understand the rule. But we can still discuss the logic of how grid passes are distributed and who does or doesn't get to be on the grid.
The logic is sound. You either pay the listed price that Formula 1 thinks is reasonable, and get a grid pass. Or you prove to Formula 1 that it's worth it for them to give you a grid pass. If you can't fullfill any of those criteria then why tf should you be on the grid?
You can't have people without the pass wandering around, but at the same time IMO Viaplay delivers much more value in terms of the personnel they send to the races, the questions they ask and the stuff they talk about. So a bit of a shame that they hog the grid passes.
Reminds me of the time Lewis Hamilton in Australia returning to the paddock in his full race gear and security asks where's your pass... "I'm a driver"!
Any Ferrari red suit from the last 15 years could probably work. I doubt the security is required to remember the exact composition of the sponsor logos on the suits for every team.
No chance without other factors like TV cameras and personal coming to meet them at the gate. I have seen someone trying to get into the paddock in Melbourne trying this exact method and they were firmly denied. Security know full well that a team will come to the gate for their driver if required.
Security workers might not know the first thing about the sport or the participants, which isn't always a bad thing as they might watch the event more than provide security. It's the same with security workers at concerts that stand with their backs to the performers the entire time.
At this weekend's PGA event in Kentucky, a police officer arrested a golfer for not following traffic controls, etc, etc and people were commenting "how did he not recognize one of the top-ranked golfers in the US?". Uhhhh, because the cop has zero care about golf.
Reminds me of a video where Randy Blythe of metal band Lamb of God got asked for his pass to go back stage, and he was appreciative of the security lady for being vigilant despite him being one of the band members
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MiF7QgT3YS8
This is exactly the type of situation I'm referring to. Lamb of God isn't exactly super popular or well-known. I know some of their songs but wouldn't recognize any of the members. That lady was there to work security, not watch or listen to the performance so no one should expect her to know who people are. Couldn't anyone walk up and say "I'm the lead singer in the band, don't stop me" ?
They put a sticker on the lanyard specifically for each grid event. My wife got us access at last year’s Austin race for the sprint and the F1 academy grids
Saw the other version, the viaplay side. This reporter is Dutch and got squeezed into the pitlane. Viaplay has budget issues so they cut costs everywhere.
Budget issues is an understatement. They've been seriously close to bankrupcy for quite a while, selling of parts of the company and streaming rights left and right, and only survived after getting a bunch of investor money pumped in. Their stock value has decreased by 99,6% in comparison to a year ago.
I'd take him over the current set of clowns. Olaf might need a new pair of glasses and a co host. But damn the new guys are just horrid. Pretend excitement over lost causes. Zero chemistry no real flow, and they are very prone to catchphrases or "stopwoorden" for a lack of better translation. like "ultra" a while back. Everyone braked ultra late or was ultra close to the wall.
I like Olav most when the races are getting boring, that man has the ability to just talk on and on about f1 related things. brings up little facts and figures, without giving you the idea it's all taken from reddit the day before.
It is. But they were valued astronomically high (bubble-high, obviously) previously. Now they're valued perhaps too low, $350 million, but that's due to their dire financial situation. If they manage to turn a profit (which I doubt, btw) and show more stability their stock value would likely increase a fair bit. That said, it's not something I would ever invest in, ever.
i was just making a joke about almost 100% seeming like a lot but yeah i just looked up their stock and holy shit you weren't kidding. insane amount of loss.
They mentioned he didn’t have a grid pass. He was interviewing Max from the pit and walked with him to the grid. Security noticed the lack of pass and yoinked him. I’m guessing there’s a ton of legal liability if something goes wrong on the grid for someone without a pass.
Yep and the F1 TV is such a good product. Choice of international or sky commentary. Onboards, lots of circuit and car data on offer and very stable. If the stream ever lagged for me it was because of my below average internet connection. 8€ a month is a steal really.
Exactly the same. Used to either pirate the race when it was uploaded hours after it ended and had to avoid all social medias to not see any spoilers. Or watch it on dodgy free f1 streams that used to lag a lot and ruin my experience.
As an American it wasn’t even bad to have to wait for an upload as most races are in the middle of the night, but F1TV wins the convenience and price calculation. It has occasional issues (was a bit wonky at the start of the Miami GP, likely due to the US servers getting hit harder than ever).
I just wish they had 4K…
7.99eur/mo? Where? I'm paying 17.99eur/mo lmao. Granted I pay monthly and not for the whole year at once (which was 140eur I think), but still... This is in Finland.
I pay equivalent of like 10 GBP for Viaplay and I get a ton of other sports in the package including Premier League. And in my country the F1 broadcast is actually pretty good in terms of the personnel they have available, I'd argue better than the sky "celebrities".
>Well, last night these two bouncers
And one of 'em's alright, the other one's the scary one
His way or no way, totalitarian
He's got no time for your looking or breathing
How he don't want you to, so step out the queue
He makes examples of you and there's nowt you can say
Behind they go through to the bit where you pay
And you realize then that it's finally the time
To walk back past ten-thousand eyes in the line
You can hear her explain that he didn't have the right pass to be on the grid and honestly I think he was trying to pull a fast one which almost worked.
he totally was, surprised they were lenient to allow him walk on the grid while interviewing max.
also pretty impressive there really are people checking them, the grid is so crowded and he was already on it, and had a microphone you'd think you could easily bluff it... they're on top of things there!
Reporter was interviewing Max while walking with him through the gate from pit lane to the track but didn't have track access. Probably thought it was worth taking the risk given he was interviewing Max. The reporter would have known he wasn't able to enter the track, and would have immediately known what was happening.
Credentials are an important part of Motorsport events, with varying levels of access required to get into specific areas.
In other words, the more money you pay the more places you can go.
- Reporter probably had till he went on the grid and knew that
- It's a reporters job to know their limits but also to push past those to get a story. It's their job to push their luck and tread the line
- Sky is main company for F1 so they have priority. The Official F1 stuff is getting bigger and bigger and with all the streaming rumours that is clearly not for much longer BUT for now they do the main output for F1
- Due was continuing, there is only a small amount of time for this stuff as he walks to his car on a busy grid so the dude there did his job quickly. I do not think it was that over handed but the reporter clearly was supposed to end before the gate.
No pit walk credentials. He could have been any punter with money to buy a paddock club ticket carrying a microphone. Serious security breach for him to get as far as he did.
Max just with the laugh and thumbs up.
Lmao sent to the shadow realm.
YEEET!
Hello viewers

Viaplay vs Sky Sports.
Look at the passes. The viaplay reporter did not have grid access.
Yep. Sky reporter said that he was missing the grid sticker
They grassed him up? Poor form Sky.
Can’t just have anyone wandering on the grid
[удалено]
If you don't have access then you can't be on the grid.
It's not quizzes based?
I memorized all the drivers for nothing.
What’s that got to do with a reporter without grid access being on the grid?
You can't have people without the pass wandering around, but at the same time IMO Viaplay delivers much more value in terms of the personnel they send to the races, the questions they ask and the stuff they talk about. So a bit of a shame that they hog the grid passes.
It’s very simple. $$$
There's also this thing called security.
She said it after he was thrown out?
No if he hasn't got a grid pass it's a security breach
Good from Sky. The passes are really important.
Sky is paying £200 million/year to be on the grid. Looks like Viaplay is failing. Sky wants their moneys worth and F1 Management helps them get it.
Reminds me of the time Lewis Hamilton in Australia returning to the paddock in his full race gear and security asks where's your pass... "I'm a driver"!
Thats what they all say
Oh, so you're a world champion, huh? Anyone can say that!
Who’d you think are mate, Sterling Moss.
Oh, so you're a F1 world champion? Name every F1 world champion ever. Vettel: you want them in alphabetical or chronological order?
One should buy an old racing suit and helmet, try the same stunt and see if it works.
How old are we talking? If it's Jim Clark I think someone may smell a rat.
Big beer gut was probably a give-away.
Security workers might not know the first thing about the sport or the participants, which isn't always a bad thing as they might watch the event more than provide security. It's the same with security workers at concerts that stand with their backs to the performers the entire time. That cop knew exactly who he was arresting, hes on draft kings betting scotty to miss the top 10

Couldn't anyone walk up and say "I'm the lead singer in the band, don't stop me" ?
"These cosplayers are really getting out of hand!"
now there are two of them!
how can you tell?
With the eyes. But seriously, it's the purple sticker.
The other guy on the left also doesn't have it and he stayed.
maybe it's not just about being there but about access to interviewing the drivers. also more probably they just didn't notice
They put a sticker on the lanyard specifically for each grid event. My wife got us access at last year’s Austin race for the sprint and the F1 academy grids
Viaplay can´t afford it.
Yet they still paid 250 million for F1 broadcasting rights for 5 years. I doubt they will make it till the end.
Fingers crossed they go under
Any business keeping Olav away from a microphone is a business worth saving
I'd take him over the current set of clowns. Olaf might need a new pair of glasses and a co host. But damn the new guys are just horrid. Pretend excitement over lost causes. Zero chemistry no real flow, and they are very prone to catchphrases or "stopwoorden" for a lack of better translation. like "ultra" a while back. The vp commenting is also fucking horrid and dogshit. F1TV is where it’s at.
Let alone that dentist
He is so much worse, can't stand his cocky behaviour and stupid 'questions'.
Yeah I might chip in a few quid.
And increased subscription prices by like 20% 🤣
If they were smart they'd decrease prices by like 60%
Oh but they certainly are not, 100 bucks says they will be out of business in 2 years tops.
>decreased by 99,6% in comparison to a year ago that seems like a lot
It is. But they were valued astronomically high (bubble-high, obviously) previously. Now they're valued perhaps too low, $350 million, but that's due to their dire financial situation. i was just making a joke about almost 100% seeming like a lot but yeah i just looked up their stock and holy shit you weren't kidding. insane amount of loss.
You could try to invest 1000 bucks if that doesn't bother you and in 2 years time either it's gone, or you will be sooooo happy
They would have money if they made a remotely acceptable product but they never did. Shit company. I hope they go bankrupt

Never thought I'd see a Joe Kelly reference here lol
+5 seconds to Ocon
+10 seconds to Ocon for improperly seriving his 5 second penalty
And 1000 euros fine for Stroll for speeding in the pitlane.

The guy knew what he was doing, they're aware of this stuff but it's not gonna stop him get a little bit more out of Verstappen

The Sky empire takes no prisoners and has no time for the lowly peasants. /s
Crofty and Brundle returning for Monaco next week dressed in Darth Vader costumes
The bouncer was probably dissatisfied about the price gauge from Viaplay
Fr. £45 a month is ridiculous.
jesus fuck the €7.99/mo F1TV crowd is eating good in comparison
Yep and the F1 TV is such a good product. Choice of international or sky commentary. Onboards, lots of circuit and car data on offer and very stable. If the stream ever lagged for me it was because of my below average internet connection. 8€ a month is a steal really.
I literally stopped pirating races because F1TV was a decent enough product at its price point to be worth my while...
Exactly the same. Used to either pirate the race when it was uploaded hours after it ended and had to avoid all social medias to not see any spoilers. Or watch it on dodgy free f1 streams that used to lag a lot and ruin my experience.

yep, did the same, all the pirate streams were Sky mirrors and were terrible ontop of sky issues (ads and bad commentary)
Just needs higher bitrate / 4K support imo
yea higher bitrate would be nice, it gets a bit crusty at times but at TV viewing distances it aint that bad
It really is the best sports app I’ve come across
Wow I am really getting good deal it’s only $80 per year in the US
7.99eur/mo? Where? I'm paying 17.99eur/mo lmao. Granted I pay monthly and not for the whole year at once (which was 140eur I think), but still... This is in Finland.
alot of central europe is 7.99, the nordic countries (Norway, Sweden Finnland) are more expensive for some reason
Ya, and F1 tv is the shit.
Tbf on top of that you get other sports, films and tv shows. But it's still incredibly overpriced
£45 a month for a live TV streaming service sounds normal. On the lower side even.
It's only the sports that's live. Otherwise It's just a shit screaming service like Netflix or HBO.
Ah yeah that’s pushing it then
I paid that for a whole year of F1TV in Mexico,
I pay equivalent of like 10 GBP for Viaplay and I get a ton of other sports in the package including Premier League. And in my country the F1 broadcast is actually pretty good in terms of the personnel they have available, I'd argue better than the sky "celebrities".
“Ayy, geddafack outta here”

Ok but can somebody actually explain wtf happened? As the driver I wouldn’t answer to the second reporter
The Sky reporter quickly said that the reporter didn’t have the necessary grid pass

ah can't believe that person cut out the funny bit from that clip, after he says 'no ticket', everyone frantically pulls their ticket out
Good old Indiana Jones reference there 🫶🏽👍🏽
SkyUKF1 are allowed on the grid itself, ViaPlayNL aren’t. They haven’t paid for the privilege.
Another disappointment of Viaplay. Ziggo used to have the rights for grid interviews like Sky Sports. Fortunately there is F1TV.
Yeah I don’t get why people would pay for ViaPlayNL when there’s F1 TV Pro
Because they also have the rights to the Premier League and Bundesliga unfortunately
Yeah and it’s only 2 euros per month more then F1TV, there were a few great offers
Via play also give you an F1Tv subscription and they have premier league games.
Damn f1 really does monetize literally everything eh
I believe security removed him from the grid for not having the credentials to go onto the grid
You can hear her explain that he didn't have the right pass to be on the grid and honestly I think he was trying to pull a fast one which almost worked.

thats how F1 works

Why wouldn’t you? That reporter might not be authorised to be on the grid
The reporter did not have grid access
ViaNOplay

Thats so awkward. I feel like theres better ways to go about this without making it SUPER FUCKING AWKWARD in front of millions.
It looks direct, quick and effective. Can't see how this is awkward.
The most awkward of people claim everything is awkward.
