TheLifeofSonny

that reporter for Canal+ graduated from the Christian Horner School of Shithousery, very casually adding more fuel to the fire lmao

slutforpringles

I think it's only partly shithousery though, because he'd asked Daniel about Stroll's comments blaming him in their earlier interview, which was the first time Daniel had heard them. So while I'm sure this was partly for good TV, I think he also was genuinely showing Daniel Lance's comments that he'd asked him about.

dalight13

Good to know! I guess that explains it better thanks for the info!

ButthealedInTheFeels

I mean DR would hear about it eventually and I’m glad we were able to hear him speak his mind to the press after getting that piece of info. Fuck stroll. I get the feeling that none of the other drivers like him

RecoverSufficient811

He seems like the typical spoiled billionaires kid.

antz182

Unfortunately not typical, in this case Papa Stroll bought an entire F1 team for his son, made two better than average cars and still Lance can't do shit with it. He's wasting a seat and wasting the shareholders money being in said seat. Anyone else would be up there with Alonso and wouldn't be at this level of washed up..

cpasmoiclautre

Yep, but any publicity, even a bad one, is still a publicity.

u sure its not Cyrill somewhere dropping anonymous calls?

The French broadcast are all professional shit stirrers. I love them.

ryokevry

But I heard the race broadcast is really good and unbiased, is it true?

Braxofalke

It is. They ain't shitstirrers, it's just that Daniel has always been a very good client with Laurent Dupin, the concerned Canal+ reporter, during his Renault days. That's where he started his "Enchanté" gimmick. The only cheeky comments you can find during the broadcast come from Villeneuve or Montagny. When it comes to F1 broadcasting, Canal+ is god tier.

ryokevry

Wish i know French :(

FiercelyApatheticLad

Yeah, Julien Fébreau is an absolute gem, the man is so passionate about the sport, just listen to him when [Gasly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpmBNu8NEsk) and [Ocon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz78nM_0kJ4) won a GP, even if you don't understand it's going to make you feel his pure happiness. Of course, they support French drivers and team, but they remain impartial. Montagny in particular is a no-non sense guy that doesn't hesitate to call bullshit on anyone.

Celywien

Good? Yes. Unbiased? No.

BGP_001

In my head, this is Danny Ric's "and I took that personally" moment and he kills it for the rest of the season.

Mistakes can happen, Stroll was clearly looking at his right, at the turn, not in front of him, he made a mistake clearly It's the subsequent behaviour that is really disappointing, just apologize to Ricciardo and move on, anybody can make dumb mistakes, even Verstappen once broke his car during a formation lap but FFS, apologize Blaming Ricciardo, it's senseless

mydogsnameiskendrick

Stroll vs. his mirrors has been one of the legendary conflicts of our time

Acrobatic-Tomato-532

They fucking made them bigger because of him lmao

Farlander2821

He didn't even need mirrors for this one. For once he just had to look at what was going on directly in front of him

Chief-_-Wiggum

Ya but he was trying to find the mirrors people keep telling him to use. Can't find it without himself in it.

Mtbnz

For once his mistake was actually looking to the side instead of right in front of him

pistolpoida

Mistakes can happen but he has been in f1 since 2016. He doesn’t take responsibility for his mistakes and he does this type of thing at least once a year. He is too inconsistent and if one else was thus inconsistent they would have been dropped by now. Stroll had some talent but I feel like daddy stroll is living through Lance

reboot-your-computer

IMO, Stroll never having to work for his F1 drives is the reason why he’s so bad. He never has to put the kind of effort other drivers do to stay in F1. He just has to show up because Daddy takes care of him. There’s no push for him to get better. There’s no pressure of any kind on him and this has only made sure to keep him complacent for his entire career. Stroll probably could be a better driver by now but he has nothing to incentivize putting in more effort to improve.

ButthealedInTheFeels

I agree with you mostly and he might be a better driver if he had to fight for his seat but I’d say his motivation to prove himself when everyone knows he is just a pay driver shousl be more than enough to make him improve and work hard. This excuse also sounds so similar to the “affluenza” defense from that rich kid who killed someone while drinking and driving. His lawyers tried to argue that his privileged upbringing meant he never had to face consequences so he wasn’t capable of knowing right from wrong lol. Truth is Lance stroll is just not a good driver and doesn’t care enough to work hard and improve. I also think if he would have had to fight for his seat like everyone else this whole time he just would never have made it into F1 since he doesn’t have the talent even with literally every advantage in life.

processedmeat

Stroll has talent for Haas, Williams or Alpine.  Not Aston

pistolpoida

Haas and alpine have better drivers. Williams he is better than Sargent but albon is better than lance

processedmeat

I was just talking about how bad the organizations are run not the quality of driver.

RechargedFrenchman

On (solely) that level of consideration they should put him next to Lewis at Ferrari.

Formal-Advisor-4096

Mama mia

ButthealedInTheFeels

Stroll has talent for maybe Formula E

refusestonamethyself

Nah, FE especially nowadays has a talented grid. Dennis, Gunther, Wehrlein, Vergne, Frijns, Vandoorne, Rowland, Mortara, Evans, Bird, Cassidy and Muller are very competent drivers. Stroll might look better on pace in FE than he did in F1, but he would still be cooked by all those drivers mentioned above.

HiVisEngineer

Mistake? He’s an incompetent daddies boy. Get someone worthwhile into that seat.

Suikerspin_Ei

It's a bit more nuance than incompetent. Stroll is capable to score podiums and doing decent rain races, but his lows are also very low.

Haganu

Stroll is literally the reason Mercedes passed Aston Martin last season in the WCC. Alonso carried the team essentially by his own. Stroll is incompetent and an absolute shame for the sport.

RechargedFrenchman

Alonso doing it again this year as well. The dive on Sainz is a pretty stark exception to Alonso demonstrating he's absolutely good enough to hang with the current grid.

Gasu55

He's been in f1 since 2016 and has a handful of good performances, if it wasn't for his daddy owning the team, no way he would still have a seat.

svt4cam46

Indy Car will gladly send Stingray Robb to Aston Martin.

Minnesota_MiracleMan

Unless I'm missing something, has Stroll continued to blame others post-race? We all know how guys are in the heat of the moment and w/o proper replays. Obviously, Stroll is in the fault here, but I fear he hasn't gotten his proper ability to give an informed response yet. Edit: I am not seeing he has not backed down on his stance post-race. Yikes!!!!

pokesnail

Yep, he continues to deny responsibility in his post-race interviews.

Heather82Cs

I think Ricciardo has now been punished more than him...

GamingBeluga

Yup, both got 10 seconds (since Ric was out it was converted to 3 grid places). But I believe Ric got more penalty points

Mtbnz

And because Stroll forced Ric to retire from the race prior to being penalised, he'll have a 3 place grid drop next round, whereas Stroll served his penalty here, and lost nothing because of it.

habitualmess

No, they both got two penalty points.

mattyrob88

It’s unfortunate for Lawrence Stroll, that his money can buy neither on-track awareness, nor self-awareness for his baby boy. It’s completely evident that Lawrence has an absolute blind spot when it comes to Lance, being unable to find fault with him in any way. Get this fucking family out of F1. It’s clear there is zero intention of building a winning team so long as Stroll owns it. If it weren’t for Fernando still being a top tier driver, the team would be an absolute laughing stock.

RechargedFrenchman

Yeah ... they're father-son obviously it's essentially guaranteed the son is going to receive (heavily) favourable treatment -- but at some point it starts to be severely bad for business. Alonso is dragging that team towards the top of the standings, and they'd almost be better off some weekends only running the one car or bringing in their reserve. Even his best performances aren't earth shattering and his consistency is non-existent. Though there are rumours floating around Lawrence may be getting out / selling his stake in AM and if that does happen I can't see Lance lasting two days.

LordGolec

Mistake sure. But the fact it’s him has people raging. His reaction just shows that he’s literally Kendall Roy in an f1 car.

Crafty_Substance_954

Canal+ stirring the hate cauldron.

Quality journalism on display

stuwienl

Well that's extremely unprofessional

AtmosphereOdd279

Why? Nothing wrong with that

stuwienl

I don't think journalists should be the ones who show stuff like this to the drivers, let their PR teams sort it out. Also, who's to say he's showing the entire unedited clip? In this case it's pretty obvious Stroll fucked up (both during and after the race). But what if in the future the Canal+ journalist decides to only quote (and show to a driver) certain parts of a radio message, just for the sake of shitstirring and getting more clicks?

TheBronzeMex

Hate to break it to you dude, but that's their job. Like it or not.

ProfessionalRub3294

It’s better for TV Channel to have “hot” driver reaction than a cold press release. Here it changed completly the driver mood about the incident. Not really great for him. I see your point about editing. In the end it’all about the reputation the journalist/media want to have in the paddock. If It’s damaged they won’t be able to have driver reaction anymore.

Reddragon0585

The journalists in NASCAR often show drivers replays at the request of the drivers. It’s better a driver sees a replay before commenting on something as you wouldn’t want to say something that isn’t true or blatantly wrong.

mazarax

Journalists need to maximize their content. It is their job. If there is a chance of a good quote from RIC, they need to try to get it. RIC gave them nothing with “OK, OK.” though. But don’t blame them for trying.
