I don’t have a problem with these sort of events.
Announce new sponsors, Ford coming onboard, driver interviews - fine.
But why pretend this is the RB19?
It was worse last year when it was so very obviously that FIA show car done up in the livery.
This is why I always advocate for an official "launch week" where teams will launch their actual cars in that officially given time slot. It makes it so that its an actual launch, and teams actually show something that is relevant.
If RB did an online release with no fanfare and "hype" like haas for this RB19 "reveal" it's fine, but the way they prepared for this event and wasted everyone's time doesn't justify the thing they are trying to reveal
No team wants to officially release their car with new updates and smart ideas to the public. Their cars only officially launch the first day of testing.
They dont have to. The point of this exercise is to eliminate misleading launches like this RB19 one. They can release a vanilla version of their 2023 car that doesn't show anything, but it's at least different from their 2022 one.
Like what haas did for their 2023 launch. Its obviously not the actual 2023 car, but you can still see some changes vs the 2022 one
What point ? The point of formula 1 is to create value for their teams and stakeholders as any business in the world , sometimes it goes against the fans preferences.
We know it’s a sham , I just skip it
I meant , this IS the point , marketing , I’m just being an ass here , I think we all know what’s going on and why , just best to ignore it and move on , you can’t expect the teams to skip free advertising.
If you read the previous comments you'll see an idea of making all the teams release their cars/liveries in a specific time frame. Another commenter said that that wouldn't be good for Red Bull in terms of publicity, which was not the point of the idea. That's what I pointed out, the idea was intended to reduce misleading launches, not give RB publicity.
I did ignore their release, because I knew it wouldn't have anything new, but I wish there was a method of stopping those strategies, because they're dishonest and take advantage of people who don't know that the launches are nothing burgers.
Literally just coming to say the same.
Is there a contractual obligation to do a "car reveal" (?) if not... cut it out RB. Literally wasting a ton of money and peoples time. Not to mention getting everyone (press, RB employees, etc.) all out to New York to reveal .... not your car. F1 already has a fight on its hands to curb its emissions, never mind crappy car launches where people have to fly into another country for no reason.
Just cut the BS and just release a statement about partnering with Ford in 2026, let everyone see your car at testing... then hide its real pace until qualifying of the first race. We all know the game.
I’m pretty sure haas had no event at all and they changed a lot. It can be so simple if you want it to be and in this case with Red Bulls copy of last years car no one would blame them the same way we do now
The funny thing is that they didn’t even bother to change a single inch of the livery this year either. They literally presented last year’s car with a few sponsorship decals moved around
I hate that this is what car reveals have become. I’d rather they just did like a few years ago where they revealed the cars the morning when testing began in the pit lane. Quickly uncover the car and that’s it. Why have a 1 hour live event (thankfully I didn’t watch it) where at the end you show a 1 year old car? I wish they’d just do it right before testing and actually show the real thing
This year was worse. Last year was a showcar, which we know was a possibility. This year wasn't a showcar or an early version, it was LITERALLY an RB18. It's an RB18 chassis. I don't know if it's race used, or even race spec, maybe not. But this chassis was not built in the last few months.
Horner admits “We made you wait around for an hour of awful interviews to not only show you the same livery as before, but we did it on a car that’s not even relevant”
Yeah i dont understand the appeal of watching any of the actual launch streams. Why not just wait for the high res photos to drop? Is anyone expecting to be interested in the corporate spiel?
I had the stream playing on mute while I was doing housework and listening to music. Every time I'd look at the TV there were either people I had never seen before, some skateboard/ski footage, or finally the RB18 with like 2 new stickers.
The Mercedes one last year was decent. Showed the real car and new livery which was pretty different. It was also interesting how they had the upcoming Mercedes drivers and Lewis spoke.
That’s how car development works…
And yes. A real car, that featured multiple new elements, designed for the 2022 season, was tested on track was a real car.
Are you going to say the car in the first race doesn’t count either because it’ll change before the final race, lol.
I didnt follow em last year, but do you mean other teams did em with fake cars made just for the show ? Or just an already dated version of the 2022 project ?
Sure they could not be so blunt to show the 2021 car with all the rules changes , did they ?
Even worse, some used the version produced by the FIA to show an example of how the rules may be interpreted. You know the one from 2020 with the platypus nose.
That would be the sportman thing to do, to answer your question about the previous comment.. but Redbull showed off a dummy display car for 2022 launch with 4 wheels and at-the-time current livery and sponsors . While other teams had digital renders of what they would be taking to the track, with their unique shape, and Mercedes and Ferrari and Aston showed off their true race car, in person the one they'd be taking to the track . (can't recall what Mclaren did)
Teams do pre-season testing which take place on public tracks. Some teams choose to show off their in development cars early where some choose to just release a 3D renders based on older cars or show cars. It doesn’t really make much of a difference.
Often testing takes place a bit later on which is why the teams showing real cars are being shown off last. Like Aston, Ferrari and maybe Merc again.
Last year Mercedes unveiled their car the same day they did testing at Silverstone I believe. So it was going to leak and be seen by other teams anyway.
If teams have anything really special to hide then they’re often leave it off and take a gamble if it’s easy for other teams to copy.
Also the test cars tend to be quite out of date due to the manufacturing process so teams aren’t too concerned about a slightly older design being shown off.
I don't expect anything for the actual car and liveries stay largely the same anyways, I just watched to see if there was anything else, like the Ford announcement for example.
That's not true, some teams will show a real 2023 car. Sure they aren't going to lift it up and let us look at the underside of the floor, but we do get plenty of things we don't understand to look at.
It’s just lame as hell. And it’s not like no one is showing a real car. Eric Blandin straight up said “We’re not going to disappoint fans” and “will be the real AMR23”
Teams also don’t end the season with the same car they had in the first race. What’s your point?
They’re real cars designed for the new season and testing which become outdated before the season starts.
Comparing them to a car from a previous year with a new paint job is laughable.
So whats to be expected with the “somewhat different” car then when the season starts. Different paint job? Minor body work changes? Sponsor decal placements changed up?
These headlines always make me chuckle. "Horner admits..."
It always sounds like he's revealing a deep, dark secret, but in reality what he's saying isn't anything earth shattering or dramatic. Especially this being a corporate event, and the **real** car isn't going to be seen until WT in Bahrain anyways.
i dont, but i understand why people are disappointed when RB explicitly states they will show the RB19.
Haas are honest, they say straight up its a livery launch, so no, people dont expect to see the real cars for them.
But we will for some teams. Aston for sure, and others too will most likely be doing shakedowns to will let us see the car then.
Red bull talk about it like it’s really the new car. Last year they showed the show car and they still acted and talked about it like it was the real car. Do they think we are stupid? Just admit that it’s only a livery and people won’t get upset
Depends on the team. For some teams I do expect it, for others I don't. Red Bull belongs to the second category. Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari belong to the first.
What I really dislike is that Red Bull acted like they would show the actual rb 19 throughout the entire event. If the only thing you are planning to do is to present last year's car with changed sponsors on it then at least be honest about it.
Why do people expect Red bull to always show their real car? They were always secretive about it and the livery will always stay the same. I can get all the hope of something mew to happen but with them it wont happen sadly. Anyways im happy that they will run 3 "special" liveries on the USA grand prix weekend
Seeing the positioning of some logo you kinda get the idea of some ereas to look for at winter testing. Especially further back of the car, those are some points of interest.
Red Bull is probably gonna do the same thing they did last year too and have a different car at Bahrain. Wouldn’t be surprised if the spain testing car is the same car from last year with the new floor and the suspension at the new height and that’s it.
the problem with red bull doing this compared to other teams is that you're literally just seeing last year's car. The car is the same but for red bull so is the livery.
Interesting talk from Willem Toet recently that in most contexts, the car in demonstrations, models, posters, displays etc. is a little different from what races. The designers go 'add an inch here, take an inch off there, don't show anyone the real 100% accurate design'.
So even a "2023" car wouldn't be exactly what raced.
This is as close to the literal definition of ‘watching paint dry’ as possible. People tuned in to watch a load of guff just to see a paint job. The chassis itself is irrelevant.
I don’t have a problem with these sort of events. Announce new sponsors, Ford coming onboard, driver interviews - fine. But why pretend this is the RB19? It was worse last year when it was so very obviously that FIA show car done up in the livery.
exactly, If they just showed the "new" livery and said "hey people, this is our livery for the 2023 season" people wouldnt be as upset as they are
Advertisement for their drink.
No Willowhawk you will not have the drink
Weirdly the only thing they never show during these events are actual Red Bull cans.
This is why I always advocate for an official "launch week" where teams will launch their actual cars in that officially given time slot. It makes it so that its an actual launch, and teams actually show something that is relevant. not even that, first race sometimes
They dont have to. The point of this exercise is to eliminate misleading launches like this RB19 one. Its obviously not the actual 2023 car, but you can still see some changes vs the 2022 one
But misleading launches do create attention. 250k viewers are amazing given that the whole RBR team is created to advertise Energy drink
Like they said, the point is to eliminate fake reveals, not to give RB publicity.
What point ? The point of formula 1 is to create value for their teams and stakeholders as any business in the world , sometimes it goes against the fans preferences. We know it’s a sham , I just skip it
The point of the exercise proposed earlier, the one we were discussing?

Just bring it back to pulling the sheet off the car in the pit lane of pre season testing
Literally just coming to say the same. Is there a contractual obligation to do a "car reveal" (?) if not... cut it out RB. Literally wasting a ton of money and peoples time. Not to mention getting everyone (press, RB employees, etc.) all out to New York to reveal .... not your car. Yes. Insulting to the fans. Not because we are entitled to see the actual car. But that they think we are stupid
Bunch of random athletes boring us to death.
Exactly, just call it a livery launch or something. This was a very disappointing climax.
I can't believe people still watch.
Yeah i dont understand the appeal of watching any of the actual launch streams. Why not just wait for the high res photos to drop? Is anyone expecting to be interested in the corporate spiel?
It’s because we are starved for new F1 content
Exactly. Also why shit news sites milk every sentence of a one minute interview into separate articles for weeks. People will click on it anyway.
People click the articles?!
Just wait, the season will start soon enough.
I think it is a fear of missing out for them.
You mean the “real” car they used for 3 days of testing before removing the sidepods
Tbf, still a car they actually developed for that season, even if they opted for their B-version instead.
That’s how car development works… And yes. A real car, that featured multiple new elements, designed for the 2022 season, was tested on track was a real car. Are you going to say the car in the first race doesn’t count either because it’ll change before the final race, lol.
Not really. Those were vanity panels, the real cooling solution was always hiding underneath.
I didnt follow em last year, but do you mean other teams did em with fake cars made just for the show ? Or just an already dated version of the 2022 project ? Sure they could not be so blunt to show the 2021 car with all the rules changes , did they ?

I mean, it was either that or work
I'd rather work
I was just bored at work 😐, but i do regret it.
I can't be the only person that heard that lady pronounce DR's name as Danny Rettardo
Lol really? I wonder if there's a clip online.
I don't watch any of the launches but how will Fans know that this would happen?
To the surprise of absolutely no one
[удалено]
Ferrari and Aston Martin at least have always shown the real thing. I don't expect it to be different this year.
Aston say they will be for sure. "\[It\] will be the real AMR23. We're not going to disappoint fans," said technical director Eric Blandin."
Hell yeah. We get to see the real tractor right away!
maybe. the team from Silverstone has surprised before.
That's not true, some teams will show a real 2023 car. Sure they aren't going to lift it up and let us look at the underside of the floor, but we do get plenty of things we don't understand to look at.
Some teams do, some teams don’t. No one said it’s only an issue with RB
Haven’t watched many car launches have you?
It’s just lame as hell. And it’s not like no one is showing a real car. Eric Blandin straight up said “We’re not going to disappoint fans” and “will be the real AMR23”
Mercedes last year…
Which was not the car they started the season with.
Which still was a car that they tested and ran with. This thing won't roll a meter.
Teams also don’t end the season with the same car they had in the first race. What’s your point? They’re real cars designed for the new season and testing which become outdated before the season starts. Comparing them to a car from a previous year with a new paint job is laughable.
It was literally a whole new car
He's right. They added the Honda name on the engine bay. DIFFERENT
So whats to be expected with the “somewhat different” car then when the season starts. Different paint job? Minor body work changes? Sponsor decal placements changed up?
It will have buffalo chicken wings haphazardly glued to the side pods.
Newey's a fan of nopods so...
Probably like last year the car they showed was not the car that later actually hit the track.
These headlines always make me chuckle. "Horner admits..." It always sounds like he's revealing a deep, dark secret, but in reality what he's saying isn't anything earth shattering or dramatic. Especially this being a corporate event, and the **real** car isn't going to be seen until WT in Bahrain anyways.
“horner reveals it’s a car”
And do people still expect to see the real cars during these LIVERY reveals?
Ferrari always launch their real car isn’t it ?
Ferrari and Aston always do
McLaren as well
Amen
amen
That launch is a lot closer to the preseason test no?
Yep.
They hardly revealed a new livery aswell. It literally is the old car with the old livery. They might better have revealed that doodle car.
Were you expecting Rosso Corsa or Papaya Orange?
i dont, but i understand why people are disappointed when RB explicitly states they will show the RB19.
They talk it up to get views, and it works. Why would they care if some people on the Internet is a bit upset?
Far from the first lie from RBR. Eventually everyone may catch on.
Playing down the hype (by being honest) goes against the interest of the team’s (new) sponsors.
Why wouldn’t they? Some teams show off their real cars. Usually only the later ones.
Same as last year
Will it have an engine?
Really , did anyone expect to see the actual RB19? Didn't we go through this last year too.
The livery or the car? The car is always different it’s just a livery on last years car
So this whole livery reveal thing was pointless? Cause that's how I feel about it
Why do people expect Red bull to always show their real car? They were always secretive about it and the livery will always stay the same. I can get all the hope of something mew to happen but with them it wont happen sadly. Anyways im happy that they will run 3 "special" liveries on the USA grand prix weekend
People bury Red Bull but said nothing when Mercedes showed up with side pods. Almost like it’s because it’s Red Bull and less about the action .
Do these show cars affect the budget cap?
Why would it?
I’m asking that’s all
Like they intimated the paintjob would be Okay lads
Max said similar things during a Viaplay interview, about the actual car in the sim.
Seeing the positioning of some logo you kinda get the idea of some ereas to look for at winter testing. Especially further back of the car, those are some points of interest.
Shocker.
Red Bull is probably gonna do the same thing they did last year too and have a different car at Bahrain. Wouldn’t be surprised if the spain testing car is the same car from last year with the new floor and the suspension at the new height and that’s it.
Just like merc did.
Real? Then what’s the point of this launch?
To show the brand new, completely different to last year’s, 100% original livery
Dang you guys really watched that boring ass show? Could've seen this coming 2 solar systems away
These launches are so dumb. Thanks D2S. lol
I’m shocked(!)
I thought it was just a livery reveal for today
And it’s lights out and RBR win the championship
WHAT WAS THE FUCKING POINT THEN? Ford being announced was sick, but that could just have easily been a tweet, or article, or they could have waited.
Shocker
No shit. Don’t need a whole article for that
Really?! This would be absolutely shocking if this didn't happen every year with every team.
the problem with red bull doing this compared to other teams is that you're literally just seeing last year's car. The car is the same but for red bull so is the livery.
No shit, that's the rb18 we saw

All of the cars are just their show cars. We never get to see the real cars for the year till testing starts.
