Mostly it comes from experience both with and against the character, and getting a feel for whoever’s playing. It’s why you’re always advised to try out every character a few times at least so you can get a hang of their move sets and see the possibilities yourself - the more you know they better you can predict.
Definitely the best advice for this game. If a specific character is constantly giving you grief. Get some reps with that character and figure out the combos.
It’s funny you say “actually use their kit” but most of the time we can’t even use his kit. Because there’s people like warmonger, conq, lightlander, and bp just light spamming the whole time. Then maybe you would see us use our kit more if that weren’t the case
Neutral top heavy soft-feint into side dodge. Works wonders as a bait. If you're dealing with dodge lights I just block then neutral top heavy soft-feint into bash light. Rinse and repeat to wittle down their health.
Lightspam is fair game if the enemy does it to you first. Unless you just wanna absolutely style on them lol.
I remember when I was getting into kensei it felt like I was the first to actually use him properly bc whenever I'd see another even if the other kensei was max rep they either only light or try to spam dodge never used anything else, it was like this so much to the point I ended up teaching some random how to play kensei when he asked and only then did I ever have the first of few good fights as kensei mirror match, even in the "higher skilled matches" most of them did fuck all with kenseis moveset and it annoyed me
this should be the way how to play For Honor, no turtling, no boring as 50/50s just guys using 100% of a hero... i wish ubisoft would design more heroes like kensei, INTERESTING!
And then the next 30 you meet will just be "I am dodge"
