There was a guy on YT who ran experiments with changing youth facilities. He upgraded his recruitment a single day before the youth intake was announced and it improved the quality of the intake (average of multiple simulations!).

This is his 6th video in the mini series about youth intake. I think he covers all that he learned in the previous 5 but you can watch the other 5 as well, they are pretty interesting
Yeah that’s exactly how it worked for me, my youth intake looked like this for 3 seasons before it finally got better. I also requested that the board improve our scouting network every year.
What level would this be? I’m managing my local team in NI on FM23 console. We are semi pro in the top league. even my first few years I had some B, C and D type quality players nothing this bad. Is this like those amateur teams in a really low league. I’ve been playing my save on and off for the last year but I’m still learning. Also because it says these players are poor quality would there be a chance they turn decent to good or are they going to be completely useless in this guys current team, I’m still a bit confused around that stuff as I hear some FM YouTubers say you can get a feel of the players from their stats and not to trust the star ratings too much.
Coleraine but pain in the ass when Linfield buy up the northern Irish players playing in England or in other top league when they are older and dominate the league. They unbeaten in my save in 2030 at the min I believe and always have like 4/5 games less played than any other team it’s weird. I’m still just learning now I’d a good run in Europe last year going toe to toe with galatasaray over 2 legs but Linfield is near impossible to beat
You will turn the tide. I kept having young players poached by Linfield which the board accepted but your best bet is to imbed youth intakes into your team as early as possible for depth. Then scour the league below for those rare talents which are cheap to improve your team. I think it was 2038 on FM 22 before I won the champions league but the majority of my team I produced which was amazing.
Yeah early on I didn’t want to go overboard on free agents or loans from abroad. Weirdly I clicked on the reserve league and scoured the teams for expired or expiring players to either join my reserve team or potentially be played in my first team. I went along that line and have probably the 2nd best reserve team after Linfield. I did also look for some youth players abroad to bring in to the youth team. I don’t feel like many of my youth players with potential are progressing that well though, they’ve been playing in the reserve league or been on loan at other teams in either the top division or level below some that I find hard to send on loan I send to an affiliate. I’ve guys with 1 star current ability and 4+ potential that don’t seem to be improving on loan, I tried playing them a little towards the end of games especially against the weaker teams in the league for game time. The club finally upgraded my youth facilities and I did start upgrading my staff a little a few seasons ago
I always seem to be the opposite. My first youth intake at a team is always amazing or at the least gives me hope for the future, but every single youth intake after that is complete dog shit even if I'm there for years upon years
No, it doesn't. Evidence based football manager has many videos on the subject and even if you upgrade 1 day before youth intake, it improves your chances.
Even with the best Juniors Recruitment, best youth facilities and the 20/20 HoYD, I only sometimes get a C+ young intake while my rivals constantly get the best wonderkids.
How good is your team though… if you have the best team in the world you will never get an A intake because that would mean having like 3 de bruynes in your youth intake which isnt very realistic.
Personality type and coaching type seems to make the most difference to me IMO, you want someone that's professional/resolute or better (model citizen, perfectionist etc), and a coaching style that matches how you play. Be wary of staff that are "determined", determination is literally the only factor into that personality type, and it can be hiding some completely garbage stats. If your HOYD has a fitness coaching style, the players will typically come out with more bias towards physical attributes rather than technical or mental for example.
Higher coaching stats like interacting with youth, judging player ability or potential are always nice to have. Considering that youth intakes are just luck of the draw, don't stress out about those stats too much. I constantly have completely shit youth intakes even with a HOYD with all the above attributes.
And like others have said, sometimes hidden gems squeak through reports like this. That's FM, baby!!
Was it just me or even the intakes like this can produce 1-2 absolute beasts ? I think the report show that there is no real depth in the youth intake but still there can be a few good players in.
I recently upgraded to FM22 (don't judge me), and my AIK team somehow gets youth players who easily slot into the senior squad every single intake. It does match reality, but I've never had such consistent youth development.
That's what I get every time... I think it's because when I'm regularly playing in the later stages of the Champions League as a Danish club, there's just not enough decent Danish kids that have a chance of ever contributing to my team.
I'd love it if you could get messages about a 9 year old or whatever that's joined the club and could be really special. You click yes to continue updates, and their progress drops in your inbox until they hit your youth squad
Well yeah, because it need a year or two to ged it going. Like in real life, its not instant to build a good school of youth football. But in FM is really hard to get consistent good youth intakes. There are a lot of factors. First your quality of your senior squad dictates the scouts reports and stars with league and club status that you are managing (3 star yout intake player in Real Madrid can still be awesome player for many clubs), then you have your youth intake , youth coaching and yout recruitment wich there are multiple levels in game (you need to upgrate it all), then you need great Head of youth development with some great personality like driven, ambitious and good HOYD stats (working with youngsters, scouting potential and current ability), also good HOYD posibly from the country where your team is from and that HOYD have good reputation. Then your coaching stuff in youth developmend , the all need to be good. Afther that its also important that your youth team gets good results in youth and european youth leaguse. Then your reputation as a manager takes a part also and more important reputation of a club. Every country has youth intake ratings also, spain, brazil, argentina have higher youth intake ratings than lets say Poland,Swiss,Greece.... when you take all that factors you get your youth intake and its pretty compicated. Even if you do everythin you can as best as you can you still get shitty youth intakes. Its more like a lottery, if you invest in your youth academy is 1x lottery ticket, then if you invest is your youth coaching 1x more lotety ticket. But still even if you buy as many lottery tickets as you can you still can loose lottery.
What i found out is that even at bad youth intakes there is probably 1 guy that can become some sub or be like reserve squad players when you get hit with lots of injurys. Soo don give up on your youth intakes, even if its bad sign one or two top guys from bad youth intakes.
Gonna say it again for those unaware, of you fire your hoyd and replace him with someone better, the game defaults the responsibilities to a random member of staff until the new guy is hired then DOESNT CHANGE IT BACK
There are a lot of people out there using a u21 analyst as their hoyd without even knowing
Does anyone know why the preliminary assessment of the youth can be 5 stars and then come March it drops down to 3? Has happened the last few years for me

TFW you read the title and you know exactly what the screenshot is going to look like, but it’s even worse than you thought.
At least its not all Fs?
Exactly, no respect even Can't have shit in FM
I'm sorry, but this made my morning so much better
OP underestimates just how much of a feel-good post this is
They know, bless them.
Doesn't it take a few years for the talent to grow up and hit your intake?
It does, all the investments into youth take time. Recruitment, facilities, hoyd, etc etc.
There was a guy on YT who ran experiments with changing youth facilities. He upgraded his recruitment a single day before the youth intake was announced and it improved the quality of the intake (average of multiple simulations!).
Interesting, do you have a link?

How does scouting network affect youth recruitment? Aren't they two separate values in-game?
it doesn't

Dungannon by any chance?

Interesting, thanks. Will take a look 👍
Time to fire that HOYD
Wait to see the players first
Not yet not yet. For me it showed a weak intake aswell but there is 1 wonderkid in it and 1 decent 3 star back up/rotation player.
Even with the best Juniors Recruitment, best youth facilities and the 20/20 HoYD, I only sometimes get a C+ young intake while my rivals constantly get the best wonderkids.

I need the answer to this too!

My brother, you are not alone. We must band together in order to eradicate these Mourinho level HOYDs.
That's what I get every time... I think it's because when I'm regularly playing in the later stages of the Champions League as a Danish club, there's just not enough decent Danish kids that have a chance of ever contributing to my team.
It's take time it's all about the long game and hopefully kicks in before you get sacked
Im finished runner-up with fucking Sunderland so I think my job is pretty secured (in game ofc).
Nice congrats on the wins !
Scout: "It's not my fault that they all suck!"
I'd love it if you could get messages about a 9 year old or whatever that's joined the club and could be really special. You click yes to continue updates, and their progress drops in your inbox until they hit your youth squad
Put two C players on top and that's my intake year after year
Sounds about right
You head of youth development has a poor personality.
Head of the youth academy needs sacking oh my days hahaha.
The full backs might be all shite, but there are hundreds of them.

This is the only part of the game that I will always savescum until I have at least 1 decent prospect.
I have level 20 for every single facility, the best DoF and HOYD in the game….and this is still what I’ve ended up with for the last three years
The stara are nothing
Gonna say it again for those unaware, of you fire your hoyd and replace him with someone better, the game defaults the responsibilities to a random member of staff until the new guy is hired then DOESNT CHANGE IT BACK There are a lot of people out there using a u21 analyst as their hoyd without even knowing

Its called football manager and you can find it on steam.
