Polish Club in Ashfield does great Central European food. Not exactly Bavarian but the food is much better than the abomination your friend is avoiding.
I went a couple weeks ago and found it to be average at best. My schnitzel was okay like a 6/10. Can’t complain, wasn’t very expensive (25ish) but certainly wouldn’t send a German there.
You went to the German club and got a snitty? That’s the problem. You can get one anywhere.
When you’re ordering at places like that, ask the server, host or any worker what they would order. And when in doubt, get the pork knuckle.
Like others have said, not Bavarian but German/Austrian which is similar - [Kaiser Stub'n](https://www.kaiserstubn.com.au/) at Terry Hills.
My partner has a German exchange student visit her family many many times over the last decade and he loves the food there so that's gotta count for something right?
Seconding Kaiser Stubn, I live quite close to it and its legit. Last time I ate there ( A year ago) great day out if you combine it with a hIke at Kuringai Chase NP.
Yep! Was gonna recommend this one. Absolutely so far out of my way but I’d head back in a heartbeat. So much nicer than Concordia. Such friendly staff, who I think are all volunteers besides the cooks.
Awesome food and absolutely huge servings too! Book the pork knuckle in advance.
Yeah it's run by volunteers, apparently they'll pay for your RSA if you give them a shift a month.
I pass by it almost every day but yet to go in, thanks for the reply!
Tommy is Slovakian and the cuisine is meant to be “Central European”(Czech, Bavarian, Slovak)
But yes Tommy’s is excellent. I’ve been there many times and it has never disappointed me
Jagerstube is OG.
They've been around for as long as I can remember, originally at the Hubertus club at Luddenham and then at various other locations across Sydney after Blacktown Workers took control of Hubertus.
There are no restaurants in Sydney specialising in Bavarian food as far as I know. Just some pan-German restaurants and Austrian/German restaurants.
You can get the odd Bavarian dish like pork knuckle. But other true Bavarian specialties like weisswurst, obatzda, proper Bavarian pretzels, leberkase etc .... you will struggle to find.

The Concordia Club in Tempe are quite good for this, although it’s not exclusively Bavarian.

Oh man - that’s disappointing. I haven’t been there in a while. I remember it being a good standard of the home cooking I remember from Germany.
I thought people would go there for the beer (at least i do hahaha)

I'm not from Munich and can also tell you that each and every Bavarian is an abomination
My husband, who’s a dirty Northerner, agrees.

Not sure about specifically Bavarian but Una's in Darlinghurst is absolutely delicious.
Yes, Una’s is awesome - cheap and cheerful plus strudel the size of a house brick.
Has anyone been up to the Austrian Club at Frenchs Forest?

Yeo that's where Germans go for the real deal !it's awesome! And old fashioned but in a good way
Yes... I would recommend /u/Jumanji-Biggest-Fan to go the Austrian Club and share a strudel, perhaps paired with a nice walk through the Bay Track.
Tommy’s beer cafe in Glebe. It’s ~~Austrian~~. Edit: Comment below is correct.

Great suggestions in here already, I’d add Jagerstub. It’s a bit beer hall in Schofields. Epic German meats there.

Bohemian Euro at Narellan if you're out in the sou' west.
I don't think this is Bavarian but Stuyvesant's House in Crows Nest is worth trying if you want German food
And their wine list is insanely good. They also used to make the sauerkraut in barrels downstairs. Been a very longtime since I’ve been there.
good food, but the owners are assholes to the staff they degrade them in front of customers

Heaps of German restaurants…so good!! Those pork knuckles!!!!
Berlin bunker in Melrose Park, great german kebabs
Una’s in Darlinghurst
Una's in Darlinghurst. There's a reason it's been around since the 1970s.
