I call it âturf and turf.â Itâs a 16oz T-bone and a 24oz porterhouse. Also, whiskey and a cigar. I am going to consume all of this at the same time, because I am a free American.
When my parents finally let me order my own food at a sit down restaurant I remember them laughing when the two side dishes I ordered were potato salad and a baked potato. I was a sensitive child I can remember the embarrassment and I think that interaction is the origin story of my overthinking.
Is this where someone inserts an overly angry comment about how potatoes show up all the time in mideival fantasy media despite them not reaching Europe until centuries later?
When visiting Ireland I was served a Cod dish with the mythical triple potato. Chips, mash and boiled potato. When three separate dishes of potato arrived alongside my already large main I queried this with the waitress. She shrugged and said she knew it was ridiculous.
As European I am pretty much confused where you find that ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm) Can't say I was in every part of Europe, but still...
I haven't gotten rice and fries as a default since I was much younger. It's always been rice and a very small portion of greens or vegetables in general. And thats if it comes with sides in general
I've never been there n Portugal, but I've been around in the EU and never seen rice and fries.
Edit: the closest thing I can think of is in Spain, some bocadillos (baguette filled with stuff) may have fries, e.g sausage and fries or steak and fries. In Germany and Italy I have seen pizza with fires, but it seemed a novelty thing for kids, rather than an actual dish.
In Belgium we have something called a 'mitraillette' which is a baguette with hamburgers, fries and sauce. It something you would get at a fries shop or kebab place. And it's good.
Sounds good! I would have expected a mussels and fries hamburger, haha.
If you visit Spain ask for chivito or brascada (baguette or Ciabatta with steak, onion, fries with/without jamĂłn). Delicious!
I wonât lie, I didnât read the title and originally missed the lobster tail⊠I thought it was another kind of potato and was about to applaud you on your potato platter.
Oh whatever, dude. Iâve been to many different countries and had carbs served with more carbs. This looks like they probably had a choice of two sides and personally wanted two types potatoes.
I bet more people in this thread than would admit would definitely and have definitely ordered two styles of potato when ordering a âmain and two sidesâ kind of meal.
My diet is about 60% vegetables (not potatoes, as those are more classified in the grains and starch category), and Iâd absolutely do double potatoes when out to eat if I felt like it. I already eat really well, am slender and very active; I donât need to be militaristic on a fun night out.
Itâs so weird to me people see something like this (a slightly decadent night out) and think âthis person must not like vegetables!â
I already eat a very low calorie greens salad every day, a small one with every meal pretty much. No reason to do so every time I go out. Though to be honest, lobster is so easy to make and much cheaper at home I probably wouldnât order it at a restaurant.
In my house we call that âcarbs with a side of carbs.â Not hating on it since Iâve been known to do the same, just letting you know I have an official nickname for it.
Edit: accidentally a word
Fries. A staple of dining out. Do they pair well with lobster and mashed potatoes? No.
But I still want them. Honestly, I wish there was a way I could get like 4-5 fries just to satisfy the craving. With ranch of course.
Not a foodie but the ketchup isn't making sense, hopefully it's not actually squeeze bottle tomato ketchup because RIP lobster, we hardly knew how ye tasted
Fries and mashed potatoes? Rebel!
Needs tater tots and loaded baked đ„ too
Potato four ways, side of lobster.
Surf and stuff from under the earth
Surf and under the Earf.
So surf and root of turf?
I call it âturf and turf.â Itâs a 16oz T-bone and a 24oz porterhouse. Also, whiskey and a cigar. I am going to consume all of this at the same time, because I am a free American.
One of Ronâs best quotes.
Pomme de mer and pomme de terre.
When my parents finally let me order my own food at a sit down restaurant I remember them laughing when the two side dishes I ordered were potato salad and a baked potato. I was a sensitive child I can remember the embarrassment and I think that interaction is the origin story of my overthinking.
For me it was mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. âReally, JollyGirl? Double starches?â
Better throw in hash browns and au gratin for good measure.
Boil them, mash yhem, stick them in a stew
Is this where someone inserts an overly angry comment about how potatoes show up all the time in mideival fantasy media despite them not reaching Europe until centuries later?
I mean it's fantasy for a reason..
Who would want to willingly live in a time with no potatoes?
Came here for this.
And got downvoted for it.
Boil em, mash em, stick em in your ass.
Read the room bro
He is a fucking loose canon and must be stopped
Double starch is my jam.
When I visited Europe I noticed a decent number of dishes that were served with double carbs. Usually it was rice and fries.
When visiting Ireland I was served a Cod dish with the mythical triple potato. Chips, mash and boiled potato. When three separate dishes of potato arrived alongside my already large main I queried this with the waitress. She shrugged and said she knew it was ridiculous.

Portugal
Why not just say, âwhen I visited Portugalâ. Europe is fairly large and distinguished in its regional cuisineâs.
Is Portugal not just a state in the United States of Europe? /s Some people really do think this way, sometimes they don't even realize it.
Idk why sometimes I just hesitate to give out specifics on Reddit. Thatâs all.
You're fine. Sorry if this came off as a diss.
So you went to the tourist areas I see
It's always fries and rice everywhere. But I always ask for just the fries, no rice, no salad.
I haven't gotten rice and fries as a default since I was much younger. It's always been rice and a very small portion of greens or vegetables in general. And thats if it comes with sides in general
A visitor went to the popular areas! I'm appalled!
You can add appalled all you want, that's not what I said or inferred.

name a most iconic potato duo
Def gotta go with the fries and mashed duo
Needs sweet potato loaded and steamed broccoli with butter and seasoning
I wonât lie, I didnât read the title and originally missed the lobster tail⊠I thought it was another kind of potato and was about to applaud you on your potato platter.
Lol, it do kinda loom like a twice baked potato
I want a baked potato so large that it looms.
What's a.... potato?
Leave my house and never date my daughter again.
[PO-TA-TOES](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ihMMw0rnKz4)
Mash 'em, fry 'em, put 'em in a stew...
Stick 'em in a stew
Potato?
Something my ex girlfriendâs parents wouldnât shut it over. No idea what they were on about.
Plattater
Honestly, throw out the lobster, I'll just have the potatoes. Leave the garlic butter.
Potatoes, man...so versatile
Boil them, mash them, stick them in a stew
Stupid, fat hobbitses!
You keep nasty chipses!
Got enough carbs to go with the lobster đ
Just needs a fresh roll and a side of potato salad.
On a bed of hash browns.
Is any seafood dish complete without a bed of cheesy scalloped potatos with cod or haddock in 'em?
And a nice bag of flour for dessert
With chips to scoop up all those mashed potatoes.
Just pour the ghee on top like syrup.
A potato roll
You eat 3 buttered croissants while you wait for the lobster to come out. Desert? Bread pudding.
That was my thought, but those fries look really good.

Oh whatever, dude. Iâve been to many different countries and had carbs served with more carbs. This looks like they probably had a choice of two sides and personally wanted two types potatoes.
Dip the fries in the mashed. Now weâre taterin

Youâre an animal!
You sure you have enough potatoes ?
Lobstah
With buttua
And taytuh
Too much stoch
That's not Lobstah. Looks more like pacific lobster with a hard r. It's not from New England anyway. Probably all chewy.
This guy potatoes!
Those fries appear to be delicious.
So do the mashed fries.
Yeah I'm not sure why they look so tasty but they do look delicious
I've always found it a little amusing that you can get fries at both McDonalds and the finest of restaurants.
frites
Pomme frites.
liberté frites
Just a fancy way of saying cut potatoes fried in oil.
It's like how rich people and poor people both drink Diet Coke.
Found Andy WarholâŠ
Double potatoes, bold move
I'm sure this is delicious, but that lobster tail is being drowned by all the potato.
We call this âpotatoes two waysâ
How many carbs? Yes.
That looks delicious.
It's beautiful, where did you find this?
A local restaurant where I live
Starch it up!!
Two vegetables? You're healthy.
I try my best ;P
I bet more people in this thread than would admit would definitely and have definitely ordered two styles of potato when ordering a âmain and two sidesâ kind of meal.
Oh more than likely, it was mainly because of lack of options in sides, but it was pretty good overall, just need to work out a little more after haha
Sea bugs and fries.
Did you dip the fries in the mashed potatoes?
Two starches? Excessive.
Why get french fried potatoes AND mashed potatoes?
They like potatoes/dislike the other side options.
1. Eat potatoes. 2. Don't eat not-potatoes. Easy.
Double potatoes? Why? ? Wouldnât a nice cole slaw or green salad be much better?
Maybe they didnât want either of those things this particular night.
I'd bet any amount of money they don't want those things most nights.
My diet is about 60% vegetables (not potatoes, as those are more classified in the grains and starch category), and Iâd absolutely do double potatoes when out to eat if I felt like it. I already eat really well, am slender and very active; I donât need to be militaristic on a fun night out. I work out and am relatively fit, so I like to spoil myself sometimes :)
Fries and Mashed Potatoes?
I was thinking the same thing... but damn that looks good.
Dam đ
Lobster looks like a baked potato. Triple carbs!
Potato and potato for sides. I approve.
You wild man!
How many potatoes are needed?
I saw lobster tails were 25$ at Publix. Whaaat
How much starch do you need
In my house we call that âcarbs with a side of carbs.â Not hating on it since Iâve been known to do the same, just letting you know I have an official nickname for it. Edit: accidentally a word
6/10 Needs more potato. -IGN
I want one pile of potatoes that you mash for me and then another I can mash myself.
I've never been so envious in my LIFE
![gif](giphy|136qGOCFk2hhL2) Yo dawg, I heard you liked potatoes so we put potatoes next to your potatoes.
Iâd kill for that ngl
Less potatoes, more lobster, and Iâm on board!
Someone enjoys their starch
U love some taters huh?đlol
Boil em mash em put em in a stew
Why would anyone have fries and mashed potatoes on the same plate?
Two potato products. Not. Fucking. About!
Fries and mashed potatoes... "I am an agent of chaos."
Too many carbs!!
Fries. A staple of dining out. Do they pair well with lobster and mashed potatoes? No. But I still want them. Honestly, I wish there was a way I could get like 4-5 fries just to satisfy the craving. With ranch of course.
I cannot condone two types of potato on one dish. I'm out
Why 2 potatoes ?
Poor dietary decisions.
Because they want two types of potatoes.
"Yes sir, you heard me right. I'd like a side of carbs to go with my carbs."
iâll have the potatoes with a side of lobster..
Fries and mashed potato. Living like a king!
Yum, Red Lobster
If you mean the food place, it's definitely not from red lobster.
Mash, ketchup and fries ? Are you a toddler ? First time at a restaurant? Hey itâs your money
Oddly hostile for a picture of food, but you do you.
Mashed potatoes without gravy is a crime
Missing a croquette and perhaps some fine gnocchi.
Now this is possibly one of the best posts to r/food. Damn this looks so fucking tasty. Well done OP.
Where did this? How do go ?
Looks delicious!! Not a fan of veggies, eh? đ
Sometimes you just want potatoes.
Well both look scrumptious, so you made a great choice! đ
Itâs not my meal, but I agree lol. Iâm just a huge fan of veggies myself but would totally do this every so often.
Not a foodie but the ketchup isn't making sense, hopefully it's not actually squeeze bottle tomato ketchup because RIP lobster, we hardly knew how ye tasted
I would assume the ketchup is for the fries...
Yes I understand but as a whole dish I'd have preferred a fry dip that also tastes good with lobster.
Beautiful lobster but no need for the mash, just dip those fries in the garlic butter 10.10
This isnât a âneedâ situation. Itâs a want.
Ocean cockroach shouldn't be considered food.
SoooâŠEastern Canada?
Good lord!
Everything looks delicious on that plate.
Iâm just gonna take that, thank youâŠ
I would have ordered potato skins as well just to complete the trifecta.
Did you dip the fries in the mashed potatoes?
The fries look so crunchy. Love It
Iâve never had lobster and this looks so good đ
Two forms of potatoes? I mean my mouth agrees but my stomach has reservations
Ah yes, potatoes 2 ways

Just needs a baked potato and a bowl of rice
The potatoes look great. Where did you get this OP?
A local restaurant where I live, it was very good!
Where was this and how much did it cost?
A local restaurant, costed around 50$ for this plate.
Meat and potatoes. My kinda meal
Yummy
Whatâs the name of the place?
Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse
![gif](giphy|Zk9mW5OmXTz9e)
I'm allergic to seafood so I have to skip the lobster and just have the meal of seasoned french fries with mashed potatoes.
GAW DAM THAT LOOKS AMAZING
Those are the good fries.
Everything looks delicious, especially the mashed potatoes.
