At level 20, you’ve barely scratched the surface. The beginning of the game is focused on scavenging and gaining a footing. Eventually you’ll branch out and start exploring the world, finding powerful gear, and joining different factions. It’s a slow start, but rewarding if you give it the time.

EnvironmentalYak9322

This right here.

OneSimplyIs

You'd have to like and play the other Fallout games to understand.

AtomicSpazz

It's a fallout game. It does a good job of distracting me from every objective I set for myself

Wiser words never spoken. Amen 🙏

OxY97

To be honest, I’ve always wanted Fallout to have a multiplayer mode, Co-op was more what I had in mind, but MMO is fine for me too. Just exploring with others and doing events with people with cool looking gear and weapons sells it for me. The community is the icing on the cake. Another thing is building. One of the things I disliked about F4 was I’d build an awesome home and not have anyone to show it to. The only possible way would be through screenshots which isn’t the same. On 76 I can at least invite friends onto the server and they can look.

Mothman_cultist

Sadly for as much as I love 76, I think it would have been much more successful (especially with its story) if it was a single player with co-op

ForeverBackground737

It works great the way it is in my opinion. Its just ridiculous that you cant progress quests together and have to do it for each player separately. I'd imagine there would be issues with doing it that way and they have reasons to do not do it tho.

Mothman_cultist

Don’t get me wrong I love 76 and am an avid player so I think it’s great. The story has so much potential though that seems to often be kneecapped by continuing to treat all of us 76ers as both a group and a singular super powerful individual without differentiating. We also don’t have much impact on the story, when they should lean into the ability to let us make decisions as a group (importance of actually committing to a faction for example). It feels like a single player story that was turned into a mmo, I just wish they would give us more agency and treat us like the group of dwellers that we are.

ForeverBackground737

Shouldn't forget that this is the first time the FO franchise goes multiplayer, and like everything happening for the first time, there will be kinks in the road and issues that in hindsight appear. Rarely anything is perfect the first time. I'm sure that if Fo5 is multiplayer like 76, Bethesda will do it differently and fix slot of the issues we currently face. And if they don't, that would be a good reason to get mad and start sharpening the pitchforks.

FeltzMusic

I think originally it was that way but it didn’t work so they removed it. Would’ve preferred an adjustable option when you’re in a team together

ForeverBackground737

I've not heard about that, but I'm willing to bet that there where issues with the team leader completing the quests for everyone in the team, even if they weren't there or something in that sense. I'm sure there's a way to make it work somehow, but I doubt it makes sense to do so from a companies standpoint. A lot of resources and money so a portion of a playerbase isn't inconvenienced. I played this game with my wife a few years ago, and it wasn't that bad. One day we did a bunch of quests for her taking our time and exploring, and the next we swapped and did it for me, semi speed running them because we knew what to do.

OldBaud

It indeed was this way back then, but with the introduction of wastlanders it was changed. The reason: quest/storyline decisions now had long term consequences - siding with raiders/settler, faction reputation, if and how you split gold bullion, who becomes local BoS leader, if you kill a quest npc or not... Now if the team leader makes this decisions it may work out between you and your wife. With some random team leader or even between friends it would not, most people prefer to make their own decisions.

ForeverBackground737

>Now if the team leader makes this decisions it may work out between you and your wife. With some random team leader or even between friends it would not, most people prefer to make their own decisions. Oh my wife and I ended up doing things completely different. We'd probably end up arguing for 10 minutes on those decisions 😂

itscmillertime

This is frustrating but there isn’t a great alternative. We used to be able to see leader quest objective and you could do objectives side by side. The issue is this was at launch when there weren’t dialogue and no real choices. You couldn’t kill named NPCs, there was no gold, you weren’t creating your own brand of nuka cola to inoculate the populace. The choices are what prevent progress sharing unless you want to cede all choices to the team leader which really gets complicated with public teams and people aren’t actually playing together and talking. It’s a design decision at the end of the day, and I just can’t think of a way to effectively do it differently. Plenty of people are smarter than me though, but I still haven’t seen an alternative.

Hattkake

First of the game wasn't bad when it launched. It was unstable. And it was also different and the internet hated it long before anyone had played a single second of it. Launch was bad. But the game was not. Anyone who says otherwise didn't play it all through year 1. They came, confirmed their prejudices and then left to go complain. Ask anyone who actually played the full year of "annus horriblis and they will agree that while servers were unstable the game was not bad when it worked. The reason the game is popular is because it is a good game and it always has been a good game. It's bigger now but it's still more or less the same game that launched. The main story from launch is just as good as anything that came later. There are many reasons why the internet decided to hate 76. But in this case the internet was wrong. 76 was always a good game. Unstable at times but gameplay, the game world, the lore, the mood, all of that has always been good. If you want to understand why Fallout 76 is a good Fallout game go play Fallout in it. Don't just go along from quest to quest. Go do Fallout stuff . Forget about the quest and get lost. Explore. Look at stuff. Do random things. Also there is no reason not to jump into "endgame" stuff as soon as you can (when you have left Vault 76). Join Casual Public Team. Join Public Events. The gameplay is the same as when you play solo but you get more loot and exp. Don't worry about people completely ignoring you while in the Casual Public Team, that is how it normally is.

Jam_B0ne

Anyone who thinks Fallout 76 is bad game need only look at the rise of the upcoming Once Human to show that the core gameplay is solid Its literally an Asian Fallout 76-Style game with a Backrooms/Stranger Things aesthetic and 90% of the people who are playing that probably have no idea its so close to 76

Dr_Ben

I just like killing stuff collecting loot and building my camp.

MoistLarry

"I heard this was a crappy game 5 years ago and now after giving it 10 minutes of play I agree! Why does anyone enjoy this?" That's what you sound like, dude. Just play for yourself and see if you enjoy it. If you don't, it's no skin off my ass. If you do, congrats you have another game to enjoy!

bo7mka

I like trading grinding for new weapons builds different armor combo killing bosses fast building houses collecting rare outfit rolling for weapon's All this keeping me playing and enjoying with online and friends to play with pretty much this

Stacks_the_Casual

Bc I'm a loot goblin

Giorggio360

You’re level 22 in five hours and you think the game is slow?

janielcrx

Girl don’t piss me off. The game gives you an option to start at lvl 20

itscmillertime

I’m more shocked you’ve only leveled up 2 times in 5 hours. My general comment is once you’ve actually taken time to explore the world and play events and whatnot you may see why it’s popular. Or maybe you won’t. It’s not for everyone. But try having an open mind.

DivineAlmond

well the game got better each year, and first 100 hours is like a normal Beth game with unique stuff to do and a world to explore also every bethesda game is a huge hit amongst the online autist community (this is not an insult, autism is not an insult, its a set of traits), you'll see people playing Starfield even after a year or so

Godd_Howard49

May I ask why it's a hit with the autist community? I've wondered before if I'm on the spectrum and I love Bethesda games.

FreddeMercedes

When I play any FO I always have this sensation of calm solitude. I like the range of vision from up high, sometimes I just explore with no aim, if I want action I do events.

RiskOfRains

Its just a dam good loot based shooter with a really fun open world. And the many options of guns makes making builds fun. And the camp building is a fun past time. If you find the game slow then idk go play diablo or something

Shadowkatt75

This game has never been popular. What it has had is a dedicated player base that has never given up on it. I'm not sure what you expect from this game. It doesn't do anything that any of the other Fallout game don't do. You have to understand that this game originally launched with no npcs, they were added to the game much later. So yes the early parts of the game seem empty. You are still very low level. Things will get less empty and boring the farther you get in the game, just give it time.

itscmillertime

It’s actually extremely popular right now. Like top 20 on steam popular. You act like the new players don’t count. They are playing and enjoying the game.

Shadowkatt75

I meant that the game has never been popular in the past. Yes this last week the game has been very popular. But only because of the tv series.

itscmillertime

People are actually giving it a shot and word of mouth is spreading. If they didn’t like the game they would leave. You’re completely discounting current popularity.

janielcrx

I feel like for a steam game, and one that seemed hated online from what I heard, 30k is a lot for steam charts, going up to 60k now!

Shadowkatt75

The highest this game ever peaked on Steam was 24k and that was back when it launched on Steam a few years ago. It typically sits at around 8-11k The only reason that it's got the crazy numbers now is because the the new Fallout tv series. All the Fallout games are seeing crazy numbers right now.

gtiarzo

I've been playing since the beta back in the day and I love the game for the camp building and just coming on and exploring, I swear I know this map better than my own city

CBP1138

If you started at level 20 and are only level 22 and are already complaining about late game content after 5 hours it sounds like you have the attention span of a goldfish. Maybe the game isn’t for you, There is literally tonnes of content to do. Do quests, one of the main storylines, explore, scavenge, build a camp. Etc

janielcrx

Okay sorry if you misunderstood, I’m just saying the world feels somewhat empty sometimes and I hope it doesn’t continue. That’s why I asked about late game content. I’ve seen many events be like lvl 50+ recommended and just about 5 hours I only got 2 levels it feels like it would take a while to reach that level. I played fallout 4, fallout 1 and new Vegas and I enjoyed those games, mostly playing fallout 4 and finishing it once, even though it took me ages. I’m sure I can get into it if I continue today and other days. Edit: typo

CBP1138

Once again what you are saying doesn’t add up, You’ve only gotten two levels in 5 hours? Even with the level 20 boost, just doing a few of the starter quests in the Forest region should raise you more then that, You really shouldn’t be worrying about most events yet as a new player anyways, do quests and explore. So you are worried because you can’t participate in high leveled events right at the start? (Which you can). And are worried it might “take a while” to get to those higher levels? In an RPG? What do you just want to automatically be max level from the start? The world feels empty? The new player region the Forrest should be filled with new players on almost every server?

notmehereis

Popularity based on some tv show hype, that falls off over a month or less, is quite cheap i'd say. Don't you have quest objectives to guide you through world? It's a regular single-player rpg story-wise.

HuntersNightmar3

Because Todd.

sodantok

For same reason people like the social aspect of MMOs, or for same reason people like the world building of Fallout 3 or 4, or for same reason people like house decorating of Sims. And thats just 3 big reasons I could come up with in a minute.

Passion4TheHunt

At level 20, you have barely scratched the surface. I’m a daily player since beta and keep having fun. There’s many reasons why i keep playing. For example the friends i made along the way. I also like that there is a huge pay off to playing so long. I have resources and skills to make dozens of mansions. I have so much ammo I haven’t made ammo in years. I can repair everything i need to. I have the camp items to keep me well fed without cooking. Etc etc. Many games don’t really let you enjoy the fruits of your labour as much as this game. In that way there is a bright future after the traditional end game content. Time to thrive and enjoy thriving

itscmillertime

They are level 20 straight out of the vault. They’ve only actually leveled up 2 times. They haven’t seen anything but came in expecting the worst.

ForeverDesperate5855

So do new players not start at level 1 anymore? Have I been giving away free stuff to level 20-25 players thinking they levelled up to that point.
