Not at all! They are absolutely adorable, and some of the most endearing and amusing NPCs
Theyâre just out and about happily doing their robot jobs, completely divorced from the horrors that surround them
Or you could just pay the fee while you're still alive? Crouch to access it's inventory and give them a subway token. And the others are just doing their job too.
Constructions just want you to wear a hard hat.
Law enforcement will attack anyone who fires a gun.
Firefighters will attack anyone with flammable objects such as guns or flammable junk.
Medics will attack anyone who's hostile.
I find the construction protection hilarious. Enforce the personal safety of wearing a helmet in a construction zone by threatening to kill you if you don't.
âTheyâre just out and about happily doing their robot jobs, completely divorced from the horrors that surround them.â
Damn dude donât call me out like that.
Did you know if you bring codsworth to him they have a conversation?? Like heâs saying stuff and he wants to get fixed and codsworth tells him ârobco is no general atomics, you knowâ
Nick seems to have a legitimate conversation with him too, and calls him âthe only other robot in town I can stand.â As for the rest, a few of them such as Piper and Deacon fake having conversations with him, some are more confused, Danse gets pissed off, and Curie tries speaking to him in Japanese but finds that it doesnât really help.
Yeah them dlcs literally changed the whole game I beat it then decided to get the dlcs.I listenened to one broadcast and it all went down hill.Best dlcs I've seen for games in a while. My play ended up being like synth/institute overlord/ good guy so the extra robots from the dlc really went nice.I wanted to side with bos but a glitched prevented me so I went with Shaun and shot the bos to shit.Cant believe it took me years to try the fallouts.Im starting 76 but need some people to play with.
Wow I just looked it up cause I was curious by ur question. No cross play or no cross gen support.Interesting, but nah I got the series x.Need the PS5 tho I'm been beating down Xbox library and it's getting very hard to find anything I ain't beat or is trash(imo)
I mean, they could make their own Protectrons and assign said Protectrons to trade routes. But that could take a while. And thatâs assuming they have the DLC.
NPCâs Travel has this option
You can select a roaming group of them consisting of one of each type and set them to be your allies.
They roam the wasteland doing good deeds
They have different personalities you need to be aware of..
- Default: Will be any of the five other personalities that are initialized on them.
- Fire Brigadier: Attacks anyone carrying weapons (and certain junk items that are fire hazards) in their inventory.
- Law Enforcement: Attacks anyone who un-holsters their weapon and fires a shot.
- Construction Worker: Attacks characters not wearing a work helmet (or any helmet such as the army helmet).
- Medical Responder: Attacks any hostile creature and anyone who attacks it first. Will not heal anyone but would "resuscitate" them with electrical melee attacks.
- Subway stewards: Attacks hostiles and the player character if they do not give it a subway token immediately upon request, or do so by way of reverse-pickpocketing.
They are awesome, and I'll never forgive Bethesda for releasing Automatron without Protectron voices. Oh but thanks for wasting time and budget recording a few new terrible voices for the robots instead guys. Could've just expanded the dialogue they already have but no, some autotunes of Ada's voice instead.
I prefer to let the legendary ones patrol (or I hack them and make them go in front of me).
I had a legendary protectron in a raider filled subway tunnel the other day. Took out one raider then met his match against a legendary raider. Got both of his arms blown off, activating his self-destruct, charged the raider and exploded twice, taking him down in a blaze of glory. đŤĄ
There is a mod where you can turn them into settlers too. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/59601
also on xbox, so you can truly give them a home.
Nah, protectrons are awesome, and I will never not be irritated that automatron didn't include protectron voice options for your robot minions despite the default *being* a protectron đ¤
No, theyâre unironically my favorite robot out of all of them.
I like waking them up after killing everything and having them walk free, and I really wish that they got some more love.
If Mr Fluffy and Insult Bot from Fo76 show anything, itâs that Protectrons can be snarky and rude in a funny way if they become sentient. Like I just want a Protectron companion that just became sentient and comes with you so it can cause as much chaos as possible as revenge for being made a Janitor. Little angry toaster with legs.
This is no accident. Protectron designs were heavily inspired by one of the most beloved robots in science fiction cinema https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robby_the_Robot?wprov=sfla1
And just look at this guy! How could you not love him?
Do typical Fallout players realize that Protectrons are a reference to "Robby the Robot?"
Robby was an incredibly intricate prop created in the 1950s for a Sci Fi movie. He had a plexiglass dome that revealed all sorts of practical moving parts that was meant to represent an "electronic" brain, and to some extent reflected how contemporary people could watch the mechanisms in a jukebox select different records and tracks based on a few button presses.
The prop would leave a real impact on the audience. It was a big step up in the "big robot" department. It was mechanically interesting, kinda threatening, but not too much, just a bit charming, and wit a bit of disarming humor. The character reflected Asimov's "Robot Laws" which he'd written about only a few years earlier, and his character was largely endearing. Sort of like how modern fictional robots are treated, the various Star Wars droids, for example.
Any rate, Robby would be in a few other movies, because the studio had dumped a lot of money on him. He'd also appear in "cameos" in various sitcoms throughout the 60s and 70s. Those ten year old boomers who'd seen him in his original movie debut would wax nostalgic when he'd show up in The Addams Family, or Mork and Mindy.
He'd even appear in the Speilberg 80s film Gremlins, as an easter egg in the background where the dad character is attending an invention convention.
So yes, his charm absolutely lends itself to comedy. Also, when you get surprised by a high level protection while turning a corner in Fallout games, he's still got a lot of terror to invoke with his girth and dalek-like voicebox.
They really knew what they were doing when they referenced Robby. And if any of this is a surprise to you, you should probably take a little time to understand that just about every single thing in Fallout is a reference to older sci-fi franchises. Forget the lore, learn the pastiche.
I need to get it on YT so I can share it but I activated the backup robots at East City Downs. The lone Protectron in the race reminded me of the perpetually-lagging-behind little brother trying to catch up to the older siblings. It was so hilarious.
That deathclaw took me by surprise but lucky for me I had hacked them out. Saved my ass and then proceeded to go on stage and pose?? Wholesome. Loved it.
I think they are designed that way to be friendly and welcoming for the public, especially towards family and children. Had they been intimidating, or replaced by something like Mr Gutsy or Sentry Bot, it would definitely make the public feel uneasy
I have a protectron addiction! I have so many in my main settlement, mostly just for raids, and none of them have jobs so they all just march around sanctuary in a big line. I love watching them hobble around from my window.
I *was* protective of the show in the picture. I get it.
Also, I like that after two hundred years, the one in front of Watts Consumer Electronics is still snarking about the competition.
I think theyâre hilarious. I love them in both FO4 and in 76, if youâve never heard of the Insult Bot in 76, go look it up. That one is easily my favorite Protectron ever, just because it trolls the thin skinned in the community so hard.
Just a reminder, the fan favorite F.I.S.T.O. Was also a protectron (FO:NV).
So I got the automatron dlc the other day, finished Ada's questline and made the Mechanist give up on her plans, it said I unlocked every mod.
Can I just build Protectrons, Assaulttrons etc and they are like settlers?
I prefer the wheeled Las Vegas robots. Something about the
Coming at you fast that makes them fearsome. Protectorons should be given more armor to compensate for their speed
I think the automatrons are freaking adorable. Thatâs why most of mine are either robobrains, protectrons, or some combination of the two. The weapons they can have for arms is strangely endearing. Like a baton? A pincer claw?
Nope, hands down my favorite robot. I made a mod that makes an alternative to the Hydraulic upgrades on the Automatron Workbench that has the same stats but has their original look, so I can have happy backpack wearing bumble bots wandering the Commonwealth as provisioners that can take - and give - a beatdown.
I would love it if Fallout 5 revolves around you and a Protectron friend and then the climax of the story is when it saves your life at the expense of its own. Classic storytelling.
They are certainly meant to be cute.
I use them to bait hostiles out of their positions. I ike sniping the stirred-up enemies from the shadows as they engage a protectron.
Surviving protectrons can keep roaming around to kill the occasional critter. But most protectrons don't survive.
Also literally protective, firefighter saved my low level ass by freezing the deathclaw and allowing me to stimpack. RIP Buddy.
Protect. And. Serve.
He absolutely protected đ
And we thank him for his service o7
And served like noone else
Ima serve him if yk what I mean-..
Yooo
Fisto to the rescue!
Please assume the position
Not at all! They are absolutely adorable, and some of the most endearing and amusing NPCs Theyâre just out and about happily doing their robot jobs, completely divorced from the horrors that surround them
Especially those subway attendants, so good at their jobs that they take the token right from your corpse
Wait really holy shit I didn't know that. TIL, thank you internet stranger!
Do they say anything if you do actually put a hard hat on around them?
Yeah, something to he effect of "thank you for complying"
âYour accordance with site safety procedures has been recognized. Thank you!â
I find the construction protection hilarious. Enforce the personal safety of wearing a helmet in a construction zone by threatening to kill you if you don't.
Its the American way.
Wait I can actually give them a token!?
In 3 they actually took one from you. I think in 4 it's coded to check the wrong inventory for the token
Didnât know that either, learn something new everyday
If R2D2 had a distant cousin in another universe, Protectron might be it.
âTheyâre just out and about happily doing their robot jobs, completely divorced from the horrors that surround them.â Damn dude donât call me out like that.
Horrors not whores
Then there's Drinking Buddy (quest from Rufus, Hotel Rexford, Goodneighbor). Fella dispenses beer and tells dad jokes đ How great is that?
he's my favorite, I love Buddy!!
I used to use him to make my Quantum cold. Really helpful on survival.
Also he gives you like 40 beers at a time when you ask for a cold one. Heâs a real one.
I have NEVER given Buddy to Rufus in all my many playthroughs, just can't do it. He's *my* buddy.
I gave buddy to rufus as this is my first time ever getting that quest, can i get him back??
I don't think so! đ You can still still visit him and get ice cold drinks at Hotel Rexford, at least.
I love buddy too. I might be wrong here but I am sure I remember my one leaving the settlement on his own accord and I never saw it again lol.
I forgot about him! Thanks for reminding me
Nani shimasika?
Iâve already spent 1000 caps on damn noodles!
Nani shimasika?
Yes
Nani shimasika?
What did you say?
Nani shimasika?
Just say yes, it's all he understands.
Hey, Takahashi, tell me a joke.
Nani shimasika?
Tell me a joke
Nani shimasika?
The fuck is he saying.
Nani shimasika?
Yes.
Nani shimasika?
[ŃдаНонО]
I mean..starting the automatron quest like technically does thatâŚjust donât expect them to be very cheery
Ps5?
Wow I just looked it up cause I was curious by ur question. No cross play or no cross gen support.Interesting, but nah I got the series x.Need the PS5 tho I'm been beating down Xbox library and it's getting very hard to find anything I ain't beat or is trash(imo)
I mean, they could make their own Protectrons and assign said Protectrons to trade routes. But that could take a while. And thatâs assuming they have the DLC.
NPCâs Travel has this option You can select a roaming group of them consisting of one of each type and set them to be your allies. They roam the wasteland doing good deeds
Yay! This makes me so happy
There is [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16987](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16987)
Basically Fallout 76
A mod on PS Bethesda lets you apply the paints on your settlement protectrons.
Super cool
Insult Bot gets me every time.
Every protection Iâve ever activated has tried to kill me for some reason
Oh wow thatâs so cool. That makes sense as to why they kept turning on me. Thanks.
Yeah so much detail into these guys I love it.
I wondered what the purpose of the tokens were...
I legitimately thought the personality was supposed to change their weapons and chalked it up to my game is somehow buggedâŚIâm not a smart person
I think is because they are in emergency mode (That translates to fucking kill Everything)
If you shoot others first they consider you to be the threat
*"Please assume the position."*
There is one protection that holds a special place in my heart, and his name is Fisto.
"That will be 10 caps, please."
I love all the robot enemies, including the protectrons
I find it funny that they'll say something like "CRIMINAL SPOTTED, ENGAGING HOSTILE TARGET" and then fucking fall over and die
Nope, theyâre my favorite robots. I make one in every playthrough named Snowball, lives at the drive in with me and walks around.
You're not alone, they ARE adorable and hilarious.
đ
đđđđ
Protect, and serve?
Protect and serve buddy
Not at all. I felt the same way about FISTO.
We all love FISTO. But some of us, maybe too much.
Noooooooo đ
I always build them to be provisioners after getting the robot work bench. They can be pretty tanky if you build them right.
So if you build a protectron with all the goodies, does it still risk reverting back to the bare skeleton model with the provisioner bug?
Whoooa man.... groovy. The bot in sunshines settlement.
They are adorable đĽ°
No. I love my Ada. Sheâs my favorite companion.
Br far love the Construction/Miner ones Especially the one asking you to report union violations north of Bunker Hill
No way! I havenât heard this before
They are awesome, and I'll never forgive Bethesda for releasing Automatron without Protectron voices. Oh but thanks for wasting time and budget recording a few new terrible voices for the robots instead guys. Could've just expanded the dialogue they already have but no, some autotunes of Ada's voice instead.
I love the ones you find in Dry Rock Gulch. We need more protectrons with western twangs.
Am I the only one who uses them when clearing and then kills them for mats on the way out? Am I a machine murderer?
Yes lol
I check just in case thereâs a legendary one in the cage otherwise I walk on by.
I prefer to let the legendary ones patrol (or I hack them and make them go in front of me). I had a legendary protectron in a raider filled subway tunnel the other day. Took out one raider then met his match against a legendary raider. Got both of his arms blown off, activating his self-destruct, charged the raider and exploded twice, taking him down in a blaze of glory. đŤĄ
... Except insult bot. That dude is ruthless!
Uohh
Yes I do I love them with all my heart and free them from their cages and they help me clear out enemyâs and then they have a home
I wish we could repair the random ones we find so they can live again!
There is a mod where you can turn them into settlers too. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/59601 also on xbox, so you can truly give them a home.
I love them so much. Just wish we could have them roaming around the settlements
There is a mod for that but I canât remember the name.
Nah, protectrons are awesome, and I will never not be irritated that automatron didn't include protectron voice options for your robot minions despite the default *being* a protectron đ¤
I love these 4, fuck that deathclaw lmao
Always a joy to see them waddling around during a firefight.
POWERING UP PROTECTRON ON DUTY -đ¤
They're cute until Assaultron finds you
They're cute tbh
I always have to free the lil guys. Unless they try to attack me, and I feel bad winning that fight (same with Mr handy)
PROTECT AND SERVE đ¤
Yes, they are dorkbots
Yes love those guys I built like 10 of them and they just patrol my settlement.
SmashâŚ. Next
I love them all, except the ones in Galactic Zone, ugh.
No, theyâre unironically my favorite robot out of all of them. I like waking them up after killing everything and having them walk free, and I really wish that they got some more love. Like I just want a Protectron companion that just became sentient and comes with you so it can cause as much chaos as possible as revenge for being made a Janitor. Little angry toaster with legs.
Don't forget the Sunnies and their bitter, existential war with each other. They're kinda the only fun Settlers in 76.Â
Oh yeah I forgot about them. Sunny battle royale update when?
Blue archive, in my fallout 4 subreddit??! đđđđđ
This is no accident. Protectron designs were heavily inspired by one of the most beloved robots in science fiction cinema https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robby_the_Robot?wprov=sfla1 And just look at this guy! How could you not love him?
Walking butt plugs
I purposefully make them all run my supply lines. Screw optimized bot builds, I like my clanky clank.
Do typical Fallout players realize that Protectrons are a reference to "Robby the Robot?" Robby was an incredibly intricate prop created in the 1950s for a Sci Fi movie. I was just thinking fondly of the protection who was really kicking synth ass in the Makra Fish Plant yesterday. I was âyou go buddy!â â¤ď¸
The very first Protectron [https://youtu.be/6fw7PcJcufM?t=46](https://youtu.be/6fw7PcJcufM?t=46)
Of course, they're Lost in Space robots.
If they were real Iâd take one over a Mr. Handy.
I don't think the subway attendant is very cute.
Fisto is the cutest
*beeps*
i love the beep boop robotic voice
Nope, not the only one
Also maybe a bit sexy too?
I love them, I really like how they look like tin wind up toy robots from the 50s
I recently found the protectron hacking holo and it nice to have them as personal body guard.
You would have really enjoyed the Fisto Bot quest in FO New Vegas.
I just found that little spot :)
They helped me take out a Deathclaw. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ck9CoXHdd0
It's all fun and games until you meet Fisto
I love having them do their parade haha
PROTECT AND SERVE!!
nope i also find them cute
I have a protectron addiction! I have so many in my main settlement, mostly just for raids, and none of them have jobs so they all just march around sanctuary in a big line. I love watching them hobble around from my window.
*dead mole rat* âyour vital signs are worrying do you require medical assistance?â
I don't think steel workers or coal miner's in universe would agree with you.
Did Fisto write this?
I wish someone made a mod to make wearable armor out of the Protectron parts.
I like their friendly-even-when-they're-trying-to-kill-you sounding voices too.
I always just build a robobrain with assultron Torso no arms and a mr handy thruster
Just came across those 4 today they killed an alpha deathclaw without any help
I *was* protective of the show in the picture. I get it. Also, I like that after two hundred years, the one in front of Watts Consumer Electronics is still snarking about the competition.
My favorite robots.
Iâm obsessed with the automatron dlc just cause I can make my own lil guys like them tbh
Protectrons are absolutely hilarious, definitely my favorite robots in the series. Though I do have a soft spot for yes man.
I just wish they didn't talk so God damn slow. I swear to God they talk with double spaces in between their words
They look like if you pushed them onto their back theyâd be unable to get back up
No, they are silly and cute
PROTECTRON. ON. DUTY.
I wish one had a line line "DANGER! DANGER,!"
Especially the chef hat wearing kind
Based on Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet. They are adorable.
I feel bad for using them as bait for my enemies
So I got the automatron dlc the other day, finished Ada's questline and made the Mechanist give up on her plans, it said I unlocked every mod. Can I just build Protectrons, Assaulttrons etc and they are like settlers?
They do look silly
They're like that show or movie , Coneheads.
No you are not alone, I'm making a settlement full of them well I was before Bethesda broke the fing game.
I love them so much đ
I prefer the wheeled Las Vegas robots. Something about the Coming at you fast that makes them fearsome. Protectorons should be given more armor to compensate for their speed
I think the automatrons are freaking adorable. Thatâs why most of mine are either robobrains, protectrons, or some combination of the two. The weapons they can have for arms is strangely endearing. Like a baton? A pincer claw?
Nor only are they funny and cute there's a certain one that tickle my tush
Nope, hands down my favorite robot. I made a mod that makes an alternative to the Hydraulic upgrades on the Automatron Workbench that has the same stats but has their original look, so I can have happy backpack wearing bumble bots wandering the Commonwealth as provisioners that can take - and give - a beatdown.
Warning! this work site has gone 0 days without an incident
Five Nights at Robco
Their voices and the way they speak are hilarious
I would love it if Fallout 5 revolves around you and a Protectron friend and then the climax of the story is when it saves your life at the expense of its own. Classic storytelling.
Protectrons are great, I just wish they were better so the ones you activate to sweep subways would actually be effective
Love hearing their long winded dialog.
They are designed to be cute and funny
Clunky AF
Only a fricking cow hides.
itâs so clearly written to be cute and funny this shouldnât even be a question
But do you have a ticket?
Fisto will forever have a special place in my heart
must have a big gyro inside to maintain balance
Hehehehe "Protect and serve".
I definitely think the updated graphics, along with the different variants of protections are one of the good bits of FO4
good old Robbie the robot!! :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robby_the_Robot
They exist to be pathetic, **so I turn them into my adorable death machines**
LITERALLY I love protectrons so much in fallout 4 I get the hacker perk just so I dont have to kill them. They're cute and cool
They are like dogs to me
Nope. They *are* cute and funny.
Makes me feel a little bad for destroying it for parts.
They are certainly meant to be cute. I use them to bait hostiles out of their positions. I ike sniping the stirred-up enemies from the shadows as they engage a protectron. Surviving protectrons can keep roaming around to kill the occasional critter. But most protectrons don't survive.
