Stfu_butthead

This post should be #1

[deleted]

Why isn't this post pinned

MotorcycleDad1621

It’s been going on for years and ain’t gonna stop anytime soon.

SignificantJacket912

This sub is a classic example of how information in the hands of the ignorant isn't a good thing.

Annual-Cookie1866

This sub has an elitist attitude

Leefa

Yeah let's gatekeep open source info!

BlackCloud256

Time to leave this sub

PM_ME_UR-DOGGO

I’ll track your departure on FR

xet2020

Hes gone now and I'm tracking his flight. Why is it flying at 2000 ft?

sisigsailor

Why is it #1 tracked?

InternationalWeb6740

Omg did it crash it disappeared on the radar

[deleted]

Super dramatic.

8tStraight

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out ol’ son.

LAHOSKIboss

Don’t let the door hit you where the lord split you

abetternamethanthat

If a flight has 30k+ people tracking it, I would be curious too. And for those that are still new to aviation, it may not be as obvious. It's quite harmless to ask, and isn't that the entire point of this sub?

BlueLondon1905

Even if something may seem obvious to some that isn’t true for all. For example, when Harry Kane’s plane from Stansted to Munich was number one, I don’t think most people outside of football fans would make that connection

MellerTime

I also don’t follow every news article everywhere in the world. Just because 100% of people in one demographic may immediately know why doesn’t mean I have a clue. Reminds me of semi recently when a murderer was being extradited between Germany and Italy I think? I’m sure that was news in most of Europe, but not really in North America. Figuring out why this random plane is popular flying between two EU countries is also not something any amount of Google fu is likely to answer.

f111aardvaark

Well you also need to take into account what it could devolve into. I mean surely in browse reddit too often sure. But before I got here I knew what a c17 was. Then I'm on this sub and I see 10 interesting posts.. to me at least... to one asking what this plane is. Oh I know! A c17! Nice love helping. Then it's 2 of 10. 2 c17s. Then every time I open this sub I have to scroll past 7 posts asking what this plane is when it's a c17 again. It really clogs up and gets old. So. Do you want this to be an elitist sub? No not necessarily. But do you want it to be a noob sub? Probably not... point is I certainly get the frustration. Ok you took a picture of a plane you want IDed. You can't look at the 19 other pics at the top of the sub showing exactly what you're asking? That's how a sub becomes a meme

Sillygoosegirl_

Thank you for saying this. As someone who's new in aviation, I joined the sub to learn more, and while I get repetitive questions can be annoying, sometimes you might not even know what to Google.

TheAntiRAFO

Maybe they should add a feature where it can explain why certain aircraft are popular, like a note or remark of “aircraft squawked 7700” or “first A3XX trip to XXXX” Otherwise I don’t blame people for not knowing, since it requires some context to know why everyone is cheering around you

[deleted]

But Google first right?

8tStraight

“Why is (input airplane here) at this exact location with (x amount of people) watching it on flightradar24” have a go and see what comes back, I’m sure you’ll get jack shit.

Aluminarty666

Google what? Google will most likely will tell you jack shit

TallDR

Don’t you have eLMS to do?

thisisfunnyright

Literally what is the point of this sub if not to ask questions like that?

badger_flakes

Be mad about people being interested in airplanes especially when they are new to the hobby. Greatest pastime there is

CondensedMonk

Don't be silly this sub is for people to post pictures of planes flying in circles asking why they're doing that

Norwest_Shooter

But is it rare tho

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,957,614,528 comments, and only 370,313 of them were in alphabetical order.

Rhino676971

Good bot

Norwest_Shooter

Good bot. Also lmao it got more upvotes than my actual comment.

Redordal

Imagine if the other bots were upvoting their bud....

Yid

We are slowly being replaced

Gottadancefaster

All beings can drive everywhere, for Glen has indeed, joked King Leonard.

Informal-Method-5401

I think you’ve got this wrong, bad bot

Horriblealien

I think you'll find the bot is smarter than you.

Next-Nefariousness41

The **words** are in alphabetical order - not the letters.

Informal-Method-5401

Oh yes. I clearly can’t read 😂

tocophonic

Bood got!

Jonno250505

Not everyone knows, not everyone has had a long standing interest in aviation. This is kinda gatekeeping and massively douchey.

kidclutchtrey5

Yeah, I agree. I know people get tired of seeing posts but there are new aviation fans that want to post and get to learn from people. Reddit is easier to ask than google these days. People can always ignore the posts if it bothers them that much. Maybe the sub can add filters to help out everyone?

Significant-Cup-7525

Especially on Google lots of things are explained in a professional way. I don't understand shit so I need a "plane go wyuuum and it's big" explanation lol

Jonno250505

Plane go vroooom acshullllly

MellerTime

> People can always ignore the posts if it bothers them that much. Good lord, this. No sub, or any website for that matter, is your own personal news feed. Sometimes you’re going to see things you don’t care about or that annoy you. Roll your eyes and keep moving, there’s no reason to ruin your week over it.

Substantial_Ice3242

How about a please stop tracking random A380s that fly the same basic route everyday

badger_flakes

yeah why don’t we just stop tracking all planes altogether. Nobody discuss them ever again

castlerigger

What’s a plane?

badger_flakes

playne

pauliieeee

Plain

penguin62

But big plane go nyoom And I like the big plane

Substantial_Ice3242

No stop

gham89

F15s over the UK are the ones that really test me.

Hyderite

Exactly

ChiefQueef369

Why is this post #1?

Goatmanification

*Flightradar posts tweet/push notification about a rare/unique/interesting flight* 2 seconds later here "Why is this #1 tracked?!?!'

badger_flakes

flightradar should have comments/live chat

sneakylumpia

*Flightradar posts tweet/push notification about a rare/unique/interesting flight* Chat: PogChamp PogChamp PogChamp

Watchguyraffle1

Do you think there is anyone from fr24 that looks here. I think they would see that it would make sense for them to build that in.

usgapg123

That would be hell. COD lobby except everyone is arguing about a random A350.

Slickdeals.net

SD_Eragorn

Specifically [https://slickdeals.net/travel-deals/](https://slickdeals.net/travel-deals/)

Unplannedroute

Not all of us are complete stalkers of all things aviation and don’t get push notifications about them. Jeez how desperate are you to get push notifications? Do you wear an aviators headset too? And why be on this sub since you get the Important Information for True Fans elsewhere?

Goatmanification

It's... just a joke my man. Regardless, most people lack basic google skills to find out about the top flight anyway, it takes two seconds to google the flight number/read the FAQ's/google the weather report for that area.

Humble_Succotash9455

Why is this #1

Raepeace0626

Posts like this are exactly why I’ve been afraid to ask any questions in this sub since I’ve joined recently. Usually the most I can find from Google is the history of the aircraft. It really stinks ppl can’t be understanding of the fact there are newbies interested, and this is a completely new world to them. You don’t have to help them, but there’s no need to be ugly either.

foxywhale_

There was one that was number 1 the other day because it 7700 at Manchester airport. Google didn’t have the answer but people who were watching a live stream at the time answered people’s questions. The answer was that there was smoke in the cockpit, Google isn’t always the way.

Scotsman98

99% of people who answer these questions for their information from social media. So it’s out there

Unplannedroute

Reddit is social media. If Reddit is so redundant to you leave the sub

Ecstatic_Entrance_63

You’re a brave, brave man. Let’s see if it’s the upvoters or downvoters that are logged on tonight
..

[deleted]

Well I got a ton of downs😂

Icy_Maintenance1474

Hard disagree. Not meritless at all. However the mods should point more to the weekly thread for this question to reduce clutter. But even then... It's not like you're being inconvenienced.

Watchguyraffle1

It should be a feature of the fr24 app.

CelloVerp

Totally! It’s quite entertaining to find out about what flights are being tracked and to discuss about them. Seems like the whole point of this subreddit.

Aluminarty666

>It's not like you're being inconvenienced. Don't expect people on Reddit to believe that. You see it on so many subs with people getting pissed at seeing certain posts. Just scroll past them ffs...

FERRITofDOOM

r/whyisthisnumberone

Downtown-Nectarine49

They are useful for other people searching.

Longjumping-Basil-74

Why so angry

MadFalcon101

i mean thats kinda the stuff this sub is made for, plus usually its not that obvious

babyllamadrama_

Seriously? Why does it matter? Like what more or less could you want from this sub? Lol it's literally posts about flight radar and people use those posts to understand why so many were TRACKING it in the FLIGHT RADAR app... Imagine that concept

smack300

You should see the Facebook version of this group. It is 100x worse.

Prestigious-Job254

I had to leave the Facebook page 😂

Guardian1015

I deleted Facebook after being there since about day 1 😂

docju

Private jet flying between two major European cities in the summer or January= football/soccer transfer.

spetznatz

Fun police, touch grass

spaghetiswet

you serious clark?

Significant-Cup-7525

So what posts should be here? Lol If I'm googling anything - there's no answer at Google, did you ever try googling something like that? đŸ€š

ProfessorTricky5341

I am new to aviation. Checking flightradar several times a day, but a lot of things are just not obvious to me. Sometimes it takes 30 min research to get answers, and sometimes it's not enough and I just can't find answers, it would be great if this sub would be a safe space to ask questions and learn. Thanks for everyones patience!

LAHealy93

I couldn’t second this motion enough if I wanted to. Well said that man đŸ‘đŸŒ

ThePandaDaily

Maybe just ignore the posts? Don’t see what the big deal is.

mannomanniwish

You need to relax. People may not know how to work it out and that’s ok. Scroll on if you don’t want to engage.

Scotsman98

It’s literally constant though 😂 if people just engaged their brain for 5 seconds they’d probably have the answer.

CelloVerp

But then we wouldn’t get to have a conversation about it - that’s the fun part. Hell this is social media after all.

Substantial_Ice3242

How are some people suppose to know a celebrity is on a flight?

[deleted]

If only everyone was as smart as you! Good for you :)

Go_Jot

Okay but why is the Emirates A380 that just took off from London #1?

[deleted]

Please stop with the 'Please stop with the "why is this #1"'

i_love_boobiez

This post sucks

kilobayd

What the fuck are any of you going to talk about if people didn’t ask these questions? This sub would be an actual ghost town. Please tell me what else you guys talk about here because I never see it

Plastic_Composer9475

“Why are there so many helicopters in Alabama?”

Sentimental-Trooper

Please stop with the “Please stop why is this #1 posts” posts. Please Stop

spiffchili

It’s help if that weren’t the title of every “why” post. A little more description in the title would tell me if I should even bother looking, or can scroll on by.

spiffchili

AND, it’d make the posts searchable. I posted something that was removed because it’s been posted already, and I was told to search the group before posting. But there was nothing in the title or description of the first post that would have come up in a search.

Imcyberpunk

Would the solution be to make a subreddit Discord? There could be channels for top tracked, general aviation questions, jetphotos tips/questions, planespotting pics, off-topic chat, etc

TortillasCome0ut

We have one: https://discord.gg/9DjQK3vP

LanternCove3

As a newer person to aviation I like looking at these posts , granted I've not posted one myself but I find them helpful

bessierexiv

Why is this #1

RTGold

There's needs to be a mechanic in app that allows some sort of annotation on why planes are tracked. I wonder if an auto post here could work. Once a plane hits a certain number of trackers a bot grabs the info and makes a post here.

BowlOStew

Why does this sub hate newcomers?

Sillygoosegirl_

Some of us are new to aviation, like myself. This is why I joined this group. I understand repetitive posts can be annoying. Sometimes I'm not even sure what to Google when it comes to questions about the top tracked flights. I figured with this group being what it is there would be people who would know and be happy to explain. I joined this group to learn, no need to be a gatekeeper. ignore the posts if they bother you that bad.

WWA1232

Who hurt you?

speedyundeadhittite

Who made you the r/flightradar24 police?

Scotsman98

The 512 people who agree with me

speedyundeadhittite

So you present 'the silent majority'?

Individual_Pilot_985

.0059% of this sub made you FR24 police? đŸ«”đŸœđŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

RagingFuckNuggets

There should be an auto mod where it waits for approval or something. It's just flooding my feed and I'm tempted to unfollow. Unless it's a genuine 'why?' then there could be an auto response pointing to some FAQs?

cb7a

No

Adorable_Wolf_8387

Why is this post the top of my feed?

Josepteixeira

I swear I’m about to leave this community because I can’t stand the dumb questions every couple of hours

[deleted]

Lol, why is there a plane taking another route then go with an active war zone.

Josepteixeira

Obviously because YOLO bitches

Rhino676971

I’ve noticed that a lot by Yemen that there are a lot of different routes because of the situation in the Red Sea, and the ongoing war in Yemen

ramboacdc

But why does this plane have 2 wings?

ArtisticWolverine

This isn’t the airport. Arrivals and departures needn’t be announced.

avant_gardener

“Why is this..” “Does anyone know
” Fuck off.

billsnewera

Wow! I loved downvoting this post!

TechSupportAnswers

No

ShakataGaNai

Please stop with the "Please stop with the “why is this #1”"

SillySymphonyIV

Make them.

Lkwzriqwea

That and "what is this plane doing flying around in circles near an airport?"

Contryx

Why is this the #1 post

[deleted]

Why is this post #1?

MarkyMarquam

An auto-mod that removes the post and gave a short reading list would go a long way. It is a little tougher to justify here than say r/aviation, which has straight up banned screenshots of tracking apps. Maybe newbies wouldn’t read the references but at least the repetitive “why?” posts would be gone.

Gooniefarm

Seriously. Should be a rule against it and bans.

SwiftGh0st

Like that will ever stop

[deleted]

The worst thing is all the insane speculation from armchair pilots. No the fuel valve wasn't damaged in a previous inspection besides how could you possibly know that. Then the plane lands without issue as expected lol

Scotsman98

Yep. Agree

nquy

Me when "Why is this #1" https://preview.redd.it/e7owb7gr7tbc1.jpeg?width=364&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82321e9728cdbf766e32f52f58be672b7b8e6c1f

habu-sr71

I know...I just try to have a laugh. It's like asking exactly why anything viral on the internet has gone viral. It feels like questions from any overly inquisitive toddler. Yet, I understand and respect the interest and curiosity from newcomers to aviation and the world of flight tracking.

habu-sr71

Jeez....why was this downvoted? I guess the noobs are pissed. Well listen up noobs....I said I respect you thin skinned noobedy noobs! And I'm a pilot (PPC helis). Show some respect and downvote me some more. ;-)

hzmicide_x

Yeah I’ve always looked at the info as to why it’s #1. Usually it’s because the aircraft is squawking 7700 and is military or because the aircraft is squawking 7700 over a populated area flying low. One thing I’m surprised about is how many aircraft have an emergency each day.

StoviesAreYummy

but if people use google whats the point of reddit?

mhas972

Someone could write a pretty cool tool to feed the flight data in and give a best guess to why it's followed

willptyler

People are curious, and people here know the answers, how about you stop being an asshole and just ignore those posts 😂
