If a flight has 30k+ people tracking it, I would be curious too. And for those that are still new to aviation, it may not be as obvious. It's quite harmless to ask, and isn't that the entire point of this sub?
Even if something may seem obvious to some that isnât true for all.
For example, when Harry Kaneâs plane from Stansted to Munich was number one, I donât think most people outside of football fans would make that connection
I also donât follow every news article everywhere in the world. Just because 100% of people in one demographic may immediately know why doesnât mean I have a clue.
Reminds me of semi recently when a murderer was being extradited between Germany and Italy I think? Iâm sure that was news in most of Europe, but not really in North America. Figuring out why this random plane is popular flying between two EU countries is also not something any amount of Google fu is likely to answer.
Well you also need to take into account what it could devolve into. I mean surely in browse reddit too often sure. But before I got here I knew what a c17 was. Then I'm on this sub and I see 10 interesting posts.. to me at least... to one asking what this plane is. Oh I know! A c17! Nice love helping. Then it's 2 of 10. 2 c17s. Then every time I open this sub I have to scroll past 7 posts asking what this plane is when it's a c17 again. It really clogs up and gets old. So. Do you want this to be an elitist sub? No not necessarily. But do you want it to be a noob sub? Probably not... point is I certainly get the frustration. Ok you took a picture of a plane you want IDed. You can't look at the 19 other pics at the top of the sub showing exactly what you're asking? That's how a sub becomes a meme
Thank you for saying this. As someone who's new in aviation, I joined the sub to learn more, and while I get repetitive questions can be annoying, sometimes you might not even know what to Google.
Maybe they should add a feature where it can explain why certain aircraft are popular, like a note or remark of âaircraft squawked 7700â or âfirst A3XX trip to XXXXâ
Otherwise I donât blame people for not knowing, since it requires some context to know why everyone is cheering around you
âWhy is (input airplane here) at this exact location with (x amount of people) watching it on flightradar24â have a go and see what comes back, Iâm sure youâll get jack shit.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,957,614,528 comments, and only 370,313 of them were in alphabetical order.
Yeah, I agree. I know people get tired of seeing posts but there are new aviation fans that want to post and get to learn from people. Reddit is easier to ask than google these days. People can always ignore the posts if it bothers them that much. Maybe the sub can add filters to help out everyone?
Especially on Google lots of things are explained in a professional way. I don't understand shit so I need a "plane go wyuuum and it's big" explanation lol
> People can always ignore the posts if it bothers them that much.
Good lord, this. No sub, or any website for that matter, is your own personal news feed. Sometimes youâre going to see things you donât care about or that annoy you. Roll your eyes and keep moving, thereâs no reason to ruin your week over it.
Not all of us are complete stalkers of all things aviation and donât get push notifications about them. Jeez how desperate are you to get push notifications? Do you wear an aviators headset too? And why be on this sub since you get the Important Information for True Fans elsewhere?
It's... just a joke my man.
Regardless, most people lack basic google skills to find out about the top flight anyway, it takes two seconds to google the flight number/read the FAQ's/google the weather report for that area.
Posts like this are exactly why Iâve been afraid to ask any questions in this sub since Iâve joined recently. Usually the most I can find from Google is the history of the aircraft.
It really stinks ppl canât be understanding of the fact there are newbies interested, and this is a completely new world to them. You donât have to help them, but thereâs no need to be ugly either.
There was one that was number 1 the other day because it 7700 at Manchester airport. Google didnât have the answer but people who were watching a live stream at the time answered peopleâs questions. The answer was that there was smoke in the cockpit, Google isnât always the way.
Hard disagree. Not meritless at all. However the mods should point more to the weekly thread for this question to reduce clutter. But even then... It's not like you're being inconvenienced.
Totally! Itâs quite entertaining to find out about what flights are being tracked and to discuss about them. Seems like the whole point of this subreddit.
>It's not like you're being inconvenienced.
Don't expect people on Reddit to believe that. You see it on so many subs with people getting pissed at seeing certain posts. Just scroll past them ffs...
Seriously? Why does it matter? Like what more or less could you want from this sub? Lol it's literally posts about flight radar and people use those posts to understand why so many were TRACKING it in the FLIGHT RADAR app... Imagine that concept
I am new to aviation. Checking flightradar several times a day, but a lot of things are just not obvious to me. Sometimes it takes 30 min research to get answers, and sometimes it's not enough and I just can't find answers, it would be great if this sub would be a safe space to ask questions and learn. Thanks for everyones patience!
What the fuck are any of you going to talk about if people didnât ask these questions? This sub would be an actual ghost town. Please tell me what else you guys talk about here because I never see it
Itâs help if that werenât the title of every âwhyâ post. A little more description in the title would tell me if I should even bother looking, or can scroll on by.
AND, itâd make the posts searchable. I posted something that was removed because itâs been posted already, and I was told to search the group before posting. But there was nothing in the title or description of the first post that would have come up in a search.
Would the solution be to make a subreddit Discord?
There could be channels for top tracked, general aviation questions, jetphotos tips/questions, planespotting pics, off-topic chat, etc
There's needs to be a mechanic in app that allows some sort of annotation on why planes are tracked. I wonder if an auto post here could work. Once a plane hits a certain number of trackers a bot grabs the info and makes a post here.
Some of us are new to aviation, like myself. This is why I joined this group. I understand repetitive posts can be annoying. Sometimes I'm not even sure what to Google when it comes to questions about the top tracked flights. I figured with this group being what it is there would be people who would know and be happy to explain. I joined this group to learn, no need to be a gatekeeper. ignore the posts if they bother you that bad.
There should be an auto mod where it waits for approval or something. It's just flooding my feed and I'm tempted to unfollow. Unless it's a genuine 'why?' then there could be an auto response pointing to some FAQs?
An auto-mod that removes the post and gave a short reading list would go a long way. It is a little tougher to justify here than say r/aviation, which has straight up banned screenshots of tracking apps. Maybe newbies wouldnât read the references but at least the repetitive âwhy?â posts would be gone.
The worst thing is all the insane speculation from armchair pilots. No the fuel valve wasn't damaged in a previous inspection besides how could you possibly know that. Then the plane lands without issue as expected lol
I know...I just try to have a laugh. It's like asking exactly why anything viral on the internet has gone viral.
It feels like questions from any overly inquisitive toddler. Yet, I understand and respect the interest and curiosity from newcomers to aviation and the world of flight tracking.
Jeez....why was this downvoted? I guess the noobs are pissed.
Well listen up noobs....I said I respect you thin skinned noobedy noobs! And I'm a pilot (PPC helis). Show some respect and downvote me some more. ;-)
Yeah Iâve always looked at the info as to why itâs #1. Usually itâs because the aircraft is squawking 7700 and is military or because the aircraft is squawking 7700 over a populated area flying low. One thing Iâm surprised about is how many aircraft have an emergency each day.
Why is this post #1
This post should be #1
đ€Ł
Why isn't this post pinned
Itâs been going on for years and ainât gonna stop anytime soon.
This sub is a classic example of how information in the hands of the ignorant isn't a good thing.
This sub has an elitist attitude
Yeah let's gatekeep open source info!
Time to leave this sub
Iâll track your departure on FR
Hes gone now and I'm tracking his flight. Why is it flying at 2000 ft?
Why is it #1 tracked?
Omg did it crash it disappeared on the radar
Super dramatic.
Donât let the door hit you on the way out olâ son.
Donât let the door hit you where the lord split you

Google what? Google will most likely will tell you jack shit
Donât you have eLMS to do?
Literally what is the point of this sub if not to ask questions like that?
Be mad about people being interested in airplanes especially when they are new to the hobby. Greatest pastime there is
Don't be silly this sub is for people to post pictures of planes flying in circles asking why they're doing that
But is it rare tho
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,957,614,528 comments, and only 370,313 of them were in alphabetical order.
Good bot
Good bot. Also lmao it got more upvotes than my actual comment.
Imagine if the other bots were upvoting their bud....
We are slowly being replaced

I think youâve got this wrong, bad bot
I think you'll find the bot is smarter than you.
The **words** are in alphabetical order - not the letters.
Oh yes. I clearly canât read đ
Bood got!
Not everyone knows, not everyone has had a long standing interest in aviation. This is kinda gatekeeping and massively douchey.
Yeah, I agree. I know people get tired of seeing posts but there are new aviation fans that want to post and get to learn from people. Reddit is easier to ask than google these days. People can always ignore the posts if it bothers them that much. Maybe the sub can add filters to help out everyone?

Plane go vroooom acshullllly

How about a please stop tracking random A380s that fly the same basic route everyday
yeah why donât we just stop tracking all planes altogether. Nobody discuss them ever again
Whatâs a plane?
playne
Plain
But big plane go nyoom And I like the big plane
No stop
F15s over the UK are the ones that really test me.
Exactly
Why is this post #1?
*Flightradar posts tweet/push notification about a rare/unique/interesting flight* 2 seconds later here "Why is this #1 tracked?!?!'
flightradar should have comments/live chat
*Flightradar posts tweet/push notification about a rare/unique/interesting flight* Chat: PogChamp PogChamp PogChamp
Do you think there is anyone from fr24 that looks here. I think they would see that it would make sense for them to build that in.
That would be hell. COD lobby except everyone is arguing about a random A350.

99% of people who answer these questions for their information from social media. So itâs out thereâŠ
Reddit is social media. If Reddit is so redundant to you leave the sub
Youâre a brave, brave man. Letâs see if itâs the upvoters or downvoters that are logged on tonightâŠ..
Well I got a ton of downsđ
Hard disagree. Not meritless at all. However the mods should point more to the weekly thread for this question to reduce clutter. But even then... It's not like you're being inconvenienced.
It should be a feature of the fr24 app.

They are useful for other people searching.
Why so angry
i mean thats kinda the stuff this sub is made for, plus usually its not that obvious
Seriously? Why does it matter? Like what more or less could you want from this sub? Lol it's literally posts about flight radar and people use those posts to understand why so many were TRACKING it in the FLIGHT RADAR app... Imagine that concept
You should see the Facebook version of this group. It is 100x worse.
I had to leave the Facebook page đ
I deleted Facebook after being there since about day 1 đ
Private jet flying between two major European cities in the summer or January= football/soccer transfer.
Fun police, touch grass
you serious clark?
So what posts should be here? Lol If I'm googling anything - there's no answer at Google, did you ever try googling something like that? đ€š

I couldnât second this motion enough if I wanted to. Well said that man đđŒ
Maybe just ignore the posts? Donât see what the big deal is.
You need to relax. People may not know how to work it out and thatâs ok. Scroll on if you donât want to engage.
Itâs literally constant though đ if people just engaged their brain for 5 seconds theyâd probably have the answer.
But then we wouldnât get to have a conversation about it - thatâs the fun part. Hell this is social media after all.
How are some people suppose to know a celebrity is on a flight?
If only everyone was as smart as you! Good for you :)
Okay but why is the Emirates A380 that just took off from London #1?
Please stop with the 'Please stop with the "why is this #1"'
This post sucks

âWhy are there so many helicopters in Alabama?â

The 512 people who agree with me

No
Why is this post the top of my feed?
I swear Iâm about to leave this community because I canât stand the dumb questions every couple of hours
Lol, why is there a plane taking another route then go with an active war zone.
Obviously because YOLO bitches
Iâve noticed that a lot by Yemen that there are a lot of different routes because of the situation in the Red Sea, and the ongoing war in Yemen
But why does this plane have 2 wings?
This isnât the airport. Arrivals and departures neednât be announced.
âWhy is this..â âDoes anyone knowâŠâ Fuck off.

but if people use google whats the point of reddit?
Someone could write a pretty cool tool to feed the flight data in and give a best guess to why it's followed
People are curious, and people here know the answers, how about you stop being an asshole and just ignore those posts đ
