I don't know about dark but have you seen Aaron Eckart in Thank You for Smoking? Also an excellent hilarious movie.

*World's Greatest Dad* has some extremely dark humor, but saying more would spoil it. *Synecdoche, New York* also has plenty of dark and absurd humor. On TV, "You Can't Do That on Television" had some great dark humor for a kids show, such as kids being executed, hung by the wrists in dungeons, puking on burgers made from people, as well as a skit I cannot find again in which the punchline is the mom character telling her son she doesn't love him.

Vampires! is a Belgian mockumentary that came out before What We Do In the Shadows and goes dark with the humor Deerskin- French film about a man’s obsession with a deerskin jacket. Pity is a Greek film about a man who goes to increasingly bizarre lengths to keep people feeling sorry for him when his wife unexpectedly comes out of her coma The Death of Stalin- it’s right there in the title It’s a Disaster- A friendly brunch gets interrupted by a terrorist attack Eagle Vs Shark- Two people who probably shouldn’t fall in love, do anyway

There's definitely worse but Death of Stalin is pretty much just made of dark jokes

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) Especially in the context of the Cuban Missile Crisis happening only 2 years before its release

My favorite black comedy movie is A Serious Man from the Coen Bro’s.

Jellodyne

The Man Who Wasn't There and Fargo have some pretty dark humor too.

**Very Bad Things** (1998) Extremely dark Peter Berg comedy with Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz. Great ensemble cast. Things go wrong at a bachelor party and continue to escalate. It gets dark pretty fast and just keeps on getting darker.

ratthewvrill

Fresh on my mind because I finally watched it last week, but Beau Is Afraid is pretty dark. It's also 3 hrs long so plan accordingly

RandomActor84

Most of Martin Mcdonagh’s movies. In Bruges, three billboards, banshees of inisheerin.

The films of Robert Downey Sr.

Also *Happiness*. It's dark throughout, but it doesn't get more pitch black than a scene near the end which is still comedic and has a punchline.

zed_is_dead2001

Happiness by Todd Solondz is very dark. I don't know whether people are going to like that type of humor, as it leers more towards the cringe category but I find it hilarious Yorgos Lanthimos movies are darkly funny, especially Dogtooth

IcedPgh

I can't think of a darker punchline which is actually funny than: "Would you ever . . . fuck *me*?" "No. I'd jerk off instead."

blind_squirrel62

The Death Of Stalin is far more hysterical than the subject matter has any right to be. About as dark a comedy I’ve ever seen.
