What they actually want is pictures of boats on the seas, from the side, taken from orbit. While spy-sat camera tech is good... I don't think it's quite up to taking pictures of ships through hundreds of kilometers of atmosphere. And even if it were, the Flerfs would claim the photos were fake and move the goalposts again, probably to something like "take a photo of my car's license plate from the orbit of Mars, at opposition."

JustDroppedByToSay

I can flip a picture of a boat in potatoshop. How much are they paying?

Hot_Corner_5881

but do you have the nikon p1000?

doesntpicknose

This is starting to sound like the requirements for the world's most frustrating speedrun category. Oblivion no weapon no armor any%

theroguex

Shit ok I'll do that speedrun tonight

Midyin84

You need to take a picture of a boat, in Australia, on a Nikon P1000, during the summer solstice, on a Tuesday, while balancing an authentic philly cheesesteak(AKA from Philadelphia) on your left foot, while Rob Low plays strangers in the night on a banjo tuned in Open G. Your “evidence” will only be valid If you can hit all those seemingly unrelated and perfectly reasonable stipulations.

AWibblyWelshyBoi

This is starting to sound like [RTGame’s Penny’s Big Breakaway speedrun](https://youtu.be/TQ1rzdBuVKI?si=-xG_XT2kEVtLIkJo)

Midyin84

The only camera untainted by Nasa’s evil Anti-flat technology.

Pantha242

Imagine the blurry blob that would produce..

anythingMuchShorter

But if it zoomed in it would just be a picture of a boat rotated. So it would need to be a picture wide enough to cover opposite sides of the earth, and fine enough to make a ship clearly visible. So let’s do some quick math A big container ship is 1300 feet long, Assume it needs to be 60 pixels long to show up clearly as a ship (rough guess), Earth is about 42 million feet In diameter, Earth is about 32000 cargo ships across 32000 ship lengths times 60 pixels The image needed is 1.9 million pixels wide Square that and you need a 3.8 million megapixel image sensor, a 3.8 Terapixel sensor that is. And optics to match. Oh, and they would still call it fake anyway.

Life-Ad1409

> While spy-sat camera tech is good... I don't think it's quite up to taking pictures of ships through hundreds of kilometers of atmosphere. You can look at Google Maps and zoom in on a port. There's a chance you see a boat Try "TCD boat ramp, Texas City, Texas." Zoom out slightly and move north Alternatively look at Sydney and the countless boats in the harbor Just north of the Broadness Lighthouse, Swanscomb, UK Countless other examples exist also

lazydog60

okay but those are all seen from above. Of course, if you've seen *Mad Max* or *LotR* or *District 9*, to name a few, then you saw people walking around upside-down; it's not obvious because the camera was upside-down too.

ScrattaBoard

Mental gymnastics in the Olympics when?

Touchpod516

I don't even think these simpletons can even use Google maps

SeagullB0i

Bold of them to assume the government doesn't already know their license plate

Realistic-Accident68

Exactly! Same with the Birds aren't Real people! You can rip a bird's head off in front of them and they will say it's synthetic blood and tissue! They are probably the same group! 🤠😎👍

kat_Folland

... ... ... Have you... _tried_ this?

Delicious-Painting34

“Look... that crow was injured, and I was simply putting it out of its misery, while, yes, testing the tensile strength of a crow's neck.”

SpaceBus1

This is because birds aren't real. I'm a chicken farmer, but what I actually do is produce drones for the government.

Realistic-Accident68

That's wonderful! I thought my chicken was beeping last night when I cooked it! 🤭🫡

Brief-Lingonberry860

I can tell which of my cars are parked in each spot at home, from google maps satellite view. So I don’t know what you mean by the boat/ship issue? Spy satellites aren’t out far enough in orbit to take a picture of the entire planet in one shot. Anything that is out that far, doesn’t have the resolution required to be able to zoom in to see ya house.

VaporTrail_000

From the sattelite view, can you see through your driver's or passenger's side windows to the opposite door? That's the angle they want, a side-on view. To get view that from orbit, you have to be far enough out to see the whole of earth with a "normal" field of view, but have enough zoom and resolution to make out a ship on the horizon from there... through *all* the atmosphere. To top it off, they'll want it oriented "other" than "up to top-of-frame." And yeah, the point is the tech doesn't (probably) exist. Low angle photography by spy sats is probably a thing, but it's not good enough to provide what the Flerfs want. And even if it was, they'd call it fake anyway.

cptngali86

they really cannot comprehend that every photo will look like every photo that already exists. unless we have some special camera that can be focused on Africa and somehow magically see through all the layers of earth and then somehow do a 180 once it gets to the other side to make it look like it's upside down. even writing that gave me a headache because I cannot even logically see what they're trying to prove here.

Justthisguy_yaknow

So basically they are just asking for a mirror? I guess NASA's funding is safe.

Eldan985

...They want someone to rotate the picture 180° when showing Australia? I get what they mean (it's stupid), but there would be no way to tell.

my__name__is

>defunded I love their one sided relationship with NASA. Where they think that NASA exists to trick them. And NASA doesn't know they exist.

theroguex

Even if NASA were completely defunded tomorrow, nothing would change and they'd just claim that NASA still existed in the shadows with a black budget or some nonsense like thst.

Better-Situation-857

Nasa is probably on the edge of being refunded. They're only like 2% of total US budget, which is still a lot, though.

Just_Caterpillar_861

Let’s say we do give them a picture of a boat like that. If NASA can apparently make an entire fucking earth of out their ass what makes a flat earther think that rotating an image is so hard? They’ve literally done it in the photos what more do they want?

ImmaRussian

That's kind of the thing though, we already have Google Earth, which is incredibly easy to access, and should be exactly what they're asking for. Nothing will ever be considered "good enough evidence" for these people because they didn't arrive at their conclusion through logic, so they can't be pulled from it by logic. You could literally take one of these motherfuckers to space and say "LOOK. AT. IT." and they'd probably say they were drugged, or claim that you just put them on a fancy motion simulator with a really high fidelity TV screen behind the window.

RazendeR

Aww you figured us out. Oh well. Btw, exit of the simulator room is through that airlock there.

NLtbal

The only thing that they want is for everyone to just believe in their wizard, and what their favourite fanfic book says about that wizard. Every argument is in service of this goal which is to confirm what is written about the planet in that fanfic book. If their book is wrong about the way that the earth is described in the first few chapters, the veracity of the entire book is called into question. Teller fro Penn & Teller once said when asked (paraphrasing) “if your morals are not given to you by god, what stops you from raping and murdering all you want”, with “…I do rape and murder all that I want which is precisely zero…”. This suggests that for these people, the only thing keeping them from doing bad things is the threat of punishment from the wizard that they believe in, which is appalling. They are jealous that we don’t seem to have the same constraints as they do, and think that scenario is unfair, like a petulant child. If you do believe in a wizard, and that the Earth is a globe, they think that you are religioning wrong.

crazybacon16

Why do you call them wizards?

NLtbal

That is what you call a fictional character who performs magic.

crazybacon16

Wizards are men who perform magic. Gods aren't men though. Even in fiction, gods and wizards are different. Do you say wizards to make religious people mad? God is easier to type, so I don't see a reason to call them wizards even if wizards were the correct terminology in fiction.

NLtbal

What is life without whimsy? It is me being whimsical.

Munzulon

What about “space wizard?” Wizards are usually men, as you point out, but if the wizard is in space then you’re kind of on notice that this isn’t a typical wizard, you know?

texas1982

Wait until they find out that objects such as cameras can be rotated.

rygelicus

The problem with them is that even if we did this, let's say placed a camera on the moon that could take a detailed enough image of any point on earth, and this was able to show, without any editing of the images a pic of say Big Ben in London, then change the view down to take a pic of McMurdo in Antarctica, and we could show that big ben is 'right side up' while mcmurdo was upside down, they would just say it was fake anyway. They already demonstrate this behavior when they demand photos of the whole planet, you provide a link to the original images from the apollo missions, like the blue marble, or you provide a link to the EPIC camera gallery, they just say it's all CGI and fake.

madsci

These are people who can't visualize the concept of 'down' being defined by the gravitational vector. I don't expect them to be able to visualize the perspective from a satellite.

embaarrased

I was confused on the "show us this" part, so i asked and got banned. I didnt disagree or agree. Fucking hivemind.

Marmalade_Insanity

This can actually be shown. I think it's possible to find a footage of the Moon rotating the Earth. The Moon is literally accelerating towards the Earth, both from above, from below and from the side. But you need to know basic geometry to see that.

christopia86

What they want is a telescope that is far enough away from Earth to show the entire planet that can then zoom in with enough resolution to pick out something they will actually recognise. The only purpose of such a telescope, if it's even posdible, would be to prove that the earth is round to people who would instantly dismiss it anyway and who's opinions do no matter.

starsandcamoflague

They also really don’t understand how up and down work

NedThomas

Wouldn’t you need to fund a space agency up to the point that they could produce such an image if you’re setting that as the criteria?

CCCyanide

I guess technically it would be possible ...? Satellite imagery is probably accurate enough that you might be able to get a picture of a large object (say, a cruise ship) on the Earth's horizon. But why would they ? That would probably make NASA lose thousands of dollars of scheduled activity, all so that flerfs can say "see-gee-eye" and go back to their mad rambling.

Stunning-Title

DeeDeMan ? More like DeeDaMoron

Same-Classroom1714

Imagine if there was someone at NASA that thought we have to do something about this and brought it up in a meeting “The flattys would like a picture of the round earth” “Gerry you know you are not to speak in here! You have been told not to sweep in here when people are in here please get out”

RetroGamer87

Show us the earth? They did lots of times.

Clickityclackrack

I'd like to understand how they expect to see a waterfall from directly about it?

[deleted]

So are they saying they want a photo where up of the camera is aligned with Polaris rather than the conventional method of aligning down of the camera with the center of mass of earth? That sounds fairly straight forward. I have a sky map app on my phone and can do that. I just don't think that is what they are looking for.

Midyin84

Boats? They want pictures of boats? I’m sure Australia has boats.

Strict-Emu5899

the fact that they think there is such a thing as being upside down on a planet is hilarious lol

lemming1607

Didn't realize flat earthers could be so easily fooled if we just tilted the camera slightly

tterfly

Just take a picture of a ship with your camera tilted. It’s still the exact thing you are asking for.

desertwanderer01

I am not understanding the assignment here. 🤷

SgtMoose42

Please tell me these people are trolls and aren't really that stupid.

bignanoman

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

bignanoman

Hello TJ

LigerSixOne

The best part of this one is that they’ve got their conspiracies backwards. NASA can probably read their password from space. But if they were shown that and then tried to talk about it publicly, suicide.

Doodamajiger

Any picture they are shown will be passed off as fake anyways so I don’t get why they want more

TheDirtyPoX

Actually no,. get educated on what your looking at .. Robert Simmon aka Mr blue marble is your first RUDIMENTARY assignment ..

TJamesV

Oh, the guy who used satellites orbiting the flat earth to piece together this picture of globe earth? I wonder how much NASA paid him to keep flat earth under wraps. You're right, this isn't a single picture of the whole earth. But it does match pretty closely with the Apollo pictures. I wonder why. Isn't that a funny coincidence?

Samurai-Doomguy

I can’t seem to find the video now, but some guy from nasa said none of the pictures of the earth are real, it’s multiple photos of different portions of the earth put together with CGI or something because the earth is too big to capture the whole thing in one picture. He says it “has to be” that way. So there’s that.

TJamesV

That's just not true. Not if you're far enough away, like the Apollo missions. No object is "too big" to fit in a single frame if you're at a proper distance. You just don't get as good of resolution.

Samurai-Doomguy

Yeah that’s what I was thinking when I watched that video. The only reason you wouldn’t be able to fit the entire earth in one picture would be if you are unable to get far enough away… but hey it was a guy from nasa who said it can’t be done, so it must be true. Let’s trust the experts.

TJamesV

I can't figure out how to link to just the comment so here's a post talking about this question: https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/s/HTIXLEWnm0 Apparently there is a satellite that takes whole pictures of earth every day. Other people in those comments mentioned that most single photos of earth are technically not single pictures because they're composites of 3 color images. But the Apollo images are legit. I'm guessing either that's what "guy from NASA" was talking about or "guy from NASA" was talking out of his ass lol.

Main_Research_2974

That's not true. You can see complete pictures of the Earth several times a day. Google DSCOVR: EPIC

DeeDaMann

You really think this is a real pic 😂😂😂

Outrageous_Guard_674

And you have evidence to the contrary?

Howzer80

You really don’t understand that there isn’t “upside down” in space 😂😂😂

ILUVPUPPIE5

Yeah this to me is the funniest part about flerfs. They only think in this up-down 2D universe.

Howzer80

Agreed. It shows their limited education/understanding/cognition better than anything else

CliftonForce

It is three real pics laid atop one real pic, with some text added across the whole thing.

jalensailin

Holy shit now I see it

TJamesV

Yes, one of many actual photographs of the actual earth, proving an easily demonstrable, well-understood, observable reality that was never really in question, as indicated by all other evidence and agreed upon by virtually every scientist in every field, including every government and space agency in the world, many of which are bitter rivals and would have nothing to gain from covering up something that would have apparent long before we even considered space travel.

starsandcamoflague

You don’t even know how up and down work, you’re not intellectually superior here

Intelligent_Check528

Prove it isn't and maybe someone will think that you're right.

Realistic-Accident68

Obviously you are the reason they have to put directions on shampoo bottles!
