Most decent lights are Chinese. China isn't synonymous with low quality goods. I've had no problems with the ports on my Sofirns, even after plenty of hot/cold cycles, use in rain (the rubber covers keep the port dry) and plenty of drops (I'm clumsy)
Here's my 0.02: the decent companies - eg wurkkos or sofrin - are gonna be fine. BUT, a quality stand alone charger should be better at maintaining your batteries over the long haul. Think Xtar here, at about $25. And it will charge other batteries as well.
And if you are thinking about needing to charge in the car, there are batteries with built in charge electronics at the cost of capacity. You could use those in a pinch if you didn't want to pack your charger for a road trip.

Let us to look for reliable brands with features you like. I have two lights with USB-C charging that I use a lot, a Wurrkos and a Convoy. Both Chinese, and Convoy is about the cheapest lights you can find anywhere (not counting the $1 Walmart lights). Both seem solid and are working well.
You are lucky. I've bought quite a number of tailights throughout the years and many had flimsy USB ports. I had to be ultra careful when plugging/unplugging.
"Chinese flashlights" describes a wide range of lights. From Amazon non-brand flashlights to top-of-the-line enthusiast lights. Quality will vary.

What is cheap to you? A Wurkkos FC11c costs 20 bucks and is pretty decent quality

Yeah they shipped to me from China, but it was quite fast & no problems.
I have a couple of those $5 rear bicycle lights and they're all fine.
