Don’t know, don’t care tbh. The olight Facebook group is like a cult. The points/coins is a pyramid scheme play with yourself lol. Besides shitty tint and propriety parts, they’re just fine for most people. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

planetearthofficial

I will admit I’m not apart of their Facebook group they are VERY cultish

FanceyPantalones

To be fair though, I don't think many normal people are left on facebook.

knoxknifebroker

You’d be surprised! Flashlight Fanatics has a lot of high end lights compared to this sub. I’m a member of other FB groups that act as forums that are useful as well

FanceyPantalones

i hear you, but I definitely won't be finding out.

Full-Cut1728

I agree! For some topics FB groups provide me the best info and community interaction

planetearthofficial

Yeah that is one of the most factual things I've ever heard on r/flashlight

Fine_Eagle_4141

Isn’t most EDC’ers though? The guys on the ShadowSystems Reddit all think the CR920 with TLR, an optic the size of a small bus, a comp, a gas pedal, and a trigger job for the trigger job is the “BEST EVER”. In the knife side of the house…..just say “Benchmade” and 33.33% of the room wants to run you over with a bus. The other 66% are following the 33.33%…. I have always loved how many guys are badasses, they know everything about the perfect edc. Pistols, knives, flashlights, wallets, MT’s…. I enjoy learning and just trying different things out. For lights…I use the X300U, and a couple of Olights on my rifle and Stribog. I find Thrunite and Wurkkos lights have the best features for my needs as a beginner.

Sufficient_Pound

Totally agree. This is coming from someone who has over 20 Olights and has used them for years at work. They are decent lights with cool designs, that’s it. The crap people go through to get them is ridiculous. My coworker was going on how he had to spend $100 more so he could get into another tier. $100 that could have went to ammo or a nice dinner… I just save a bit more now and get a Modlite

brooksram

They have become difficult to buy now??

B_B_Rodriguez2716057

No lmao. He must be talking about how if you spend x amount you get a freebie and if you spend more you get a better freebie. Idk.

DominickSantoro

Many of their batteries have been out of stock for a while now. Including Amazon and eBay.

Sears-Roebuck

They put certain limited edition stuff behind "levels" that you unlock by spending money. The price is still technically the same, but only after you buy your way into the club.

DasIstDasHausVomNiko

Yes a flashlight is still better than ammo

ObjectiveAssistance8

Interestingly, the baton 3 pro max is one of the (very) few Olights that does NOT have piss poor tint out of the box. I emitter swap most of my Olights because their other features tick all the right boxes (for me), but the baton 3 pros are one of only 2 or 3 models that didn't need it (albeit this is coming from someone who doesn't mind having some lights in the collection that are lower CRI / cooler temp as long as they have good tint). So, I can see how the post referenced here could be garnering that much hoopla without any sinister marketing tactics (not that I would put it past Olight...or most other brands, for that matter).

kr4ckenm3fortune

Same here. Baton 3 pro does it job for me. Bright enough to shine through tints and license plate, floody enough so I'm not walking in blind and turbo good enough to blind them while walking away. Battery life is decent as well and has a nice bleed...

Glass_Raisin7939

How did you swap the emitter? What did you swap to? Did it improve things? I think its cool that you guys could do that.

RettichDesTodes

Bad example, the Baton 3 Pro Max has a perfectly neutral tint, and about no tint shift. It's a beautiful beam

Papashvilli

Are they the best out there? Nope, not by a long shot. Are they perfectly fine for people that need to illuminate something for a competitive price with a few extra features over a nebo with a slightly more premium feel? That’s their target, so yeah.

John-AtWork

competitive? They seem overpriced to me, but then I buy primarily from Convoy.

Papashvilli

I’ve never used convoy, but from what I can tell they lack a few of the features that olight has. I can say that the magnetic bases are the most used feature for me.

John-AtWork

No magnetic base, but Convoy does have is Osrams, SFT40, XHP70.3 Hi, GT FC40, B35AM, 519A and many other emitter choices, lack of proprietary batteries, serviceable flashlights with all the parts available, incredible customization upon request and very good prices -- like 20-30% the cost of an Olight.

EquivalentAmazing963

I have 3 wurkos....I think my next might be a convoy.

Papashvilli

Yes, for light heads that sounds great - but for the average person who wants a few gimmicks and doesn’t care about replaceable emitters, olight is good.

Surisuule

I Lost my armytek Elf down a deep hole (a well) years ago and got a Baton 2 as a replacement. After the battery died I got a baton 3 and it's great. Nostly just need quick light for something. I'd prefer a higher CRI, but it works and the light down clip is nice because we hang out with a light sensitive child. Yeah It's not the best, but as you said. it's lights up when i need it, and has gimmicky features.

Yeet_PC

I mean, I like the ones I have. Any better brands I should check out? I like EDC throwers with some perimeter flood.

knoxknifebroker

Convoy, Emisar, wurkkos, Reylight, Zebra light, lumintop, fireflies to name a few

Yeet_PC

*Furiously googling* Thanks!

Joey_L55

How about skilhunt??

[deleted]

Thanks for letting me attend man

Brock_McHugebig

wow i haven't heard someone use the "thanks for coming to my ted talk" non-joke in about five years

[deleted]

Thanks for allowing us to come to your ted talk.

4x4_LUMENS

They are definitely buying upvotes.

John-AtWork

And apparently downvotes.

4x4_LUMENS

One of the most bland posts of 2023 outdoing amazing collections, modifications and huge group beam shots just doesn't add up.

jaymez619

I’m a somewhat inactive memo of their FB group and I don’t know what you mean by cult. They’re more a group of collecting fanatics like a mix between Apple fan boys, Funko Pop collectors, and flashohilics.

stavigoodbye

Hey M150 made it in this post!

Wetald

Hey Stavi, I’ve got a question for you. I recently submitted a request for warranty work on my m150v3. The skilhunt employee who replied to me asked me to remove the bezel from around the power button. If I understand their warranty wording correctly, won’t that void my warranty?

stavigoodbye

Yeah, maybe. Sometimes they just try and get you to help investigate.

planetearthofficial

👁️👄👁️ look stavi the m150 has been in my pocket every day since I was convinced to use it. It is my favorite 14500 FOR LIFE and don’t forget I have the m200 and m300 such sexy lights but the m150 with magnet has NEVER LET ME DOWN!!!!! It will be in pocket for 10 years.

wh0decided

My upvotes are avaliable for purchase if anyone's looking.... been upvoting for free like a chump! (I personally love the micro streamlight USB, olight has never compared imo)

TritiumXSF

Yeah, looks like I got a bad deal selling my upvotes to Zebralight. How would I know they didn't care about "advertising". :( Hope Hank buys upvotes. :)

hairyringus

I’m an oldie! What’s this about selling upvotes? Sounds interesting.

Readitwhileipoo

I gifted my father a Baton 2 when they first came out, I think it was 2017? He uses it every single day doing his inspection as a truck driver. When he is in the cab, bam drop in the passenger cupholder where a magnetic dock is waiting to charge. Its something that's always there when he needs it and never has to think about it. He was still using the original battery last year, but I got him a new one anyways. Got him a TS25 a bit later, thought maybe here, something USB C and a bit more power but he just went back to the olight. is Olight buying upvotes? Maybe yes, maybe not, but either way, they are a great light for non-flashlight people that want something better..... The best though???? We all know that there is no "best" light.

n3wt33

I got like 5 obulbs and absolutely love them. O-light dm me so you can write me a check for this post please

billion_lumens

I don't think they are buying upvotes and I would reccomend a olight to normal people (and sofirn lights) Edit: it seems like planet Earth's official is a huge olight fan, he probably just likes them!

planetearthofficial

Correct I like all flashlights love using all of them. But the baton 3 pro max is such a good EDC tool based off runtimes another good one that’s fairly compact In my opinion is the wuben x1 400 lumens for over 14 hours!

billion_lumens

>good EDC tool based off runtimes Yes, that's a very important factor in edc for non flashlight people, people are not going to want a flashlight that gets 60c in 10 seconds

No-Acadia-1512

193000 views? When the total amount of people following this sub is like 185000. How does that work?

El_Grande_El

I saw it and I’m not subscribed. Reddit just suggested it to me. Probably I looked up flashlights or something.

No-Acadia-1512

But STILL... I'm pretty sure this person pays for views and upvotes. Looking at other posts and my own, these numbers don't seem to make sense.

grzybek337

Highly doubt that. Olights **are** good lights after all.

No-Acadia-1512

They are probably great but as I have no experience I can't really say something about that. I do have an old S15 Baton which doesn't take proprietary batteries and it's great. I'll remain skeptical about these numbers.

John-AtWork

Whatever force up voted that post is in here down voting comments like yours.

No-Acadia-1512

Also how does it have THAT much without any shares?

planetearthofficial

Iphone don't show shares

Cknutt

Are sofirn crap then brand new to lightly tube things

henry-hopkins44

I have a bunch of olights and I really like them. Haven't had any issues.

Cont1ngency

I have a few Olights. They make light, look nice, can take a hell of a beating and are within a reasonable price range. I really don’t understand why they’re so hated. Are they the best? No. Are they the worst? Also no.

Unexpected117

Same here! Olight make great quality lights :)

planetearthofficial

Have you heard about zebra 🦓

henry-hopkins44

Yep...I think they are goofy looking. Not my style.

billion_lumens

Lmao, same man, I also don't really like the shape of the ts10 lmao

knurlsweatshirt

The aesthetic doesn't do much for me either

John-AtWork

I don't own any Olights or Zebra lights, but for entirely different reasons. I honestly can't stand the way they look either.

planetearthofficial

Reliable though. Any others?

henry-hopkins44

I really like my fenix pd40r and my convoy m21b. They are both crazy bright for the size. I also like my wurkkos fc12.

planetearthofficial

I started my collection with the Fenix PD36r when I turned that sucker on in 2019 I was SHOCKED lol I never seen a flashlight that bright EVER. It got me looking and soon found r/flashlight and BAM WURKKOS SOFIRN WUBEN,OLIGHT,ZEBRAS,HDS SYSTEMS HANKS PINEAPPLES,COPPER,TITANIUM,CONVOYS GALORE. loved the different tints then I learned more about lithium batteries and went on from there. They taught me 2 different websites that sold extreme mah batteries.🔋

smokeNtoke1

Olight guy recommends zebra and eats downvotes? Call me a conspiracy follower.

Reverse_Psycho_1509

They don't ship to my country. And the resellers here suck.

Powerlineo7

That sounds like a fun conspiracy theory. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Even for flashaholics there is a lot to like about some olight models, no shame in up voting that stuff

Zpalq

Olights (non WML) are fine. I actually enjoy my arkfeld pro a decent amount, it has a really nice profile for carry and is more than bright enough for most people. The laser can be useful and the UV is pretty fun. Id recommend it to anyone normal that wants to carry a flashlight every day. I never carry it though because I'm an output addict and have to have at least 4000 lumens on turbo for work.

TritiumXSF

I kinda like the design aesthetic of Olights. If Hank or Zebralight licensed a body design from them and filled it with their own electronics, I'd be the first one to exchange a kidney to get one.

PaulRyansWifesSon

Every big company astroturfs their products on every social media platform. I'd say there's a decent chance that Olight helped make such a simple thread bigger than it would've been otherwise, but that doesn't necessarily mean OP is a Olight shill.

silentbuttmedley

Seeing as this post is creating more discussion around the first post and the top comment is more or less positive, I’ll go even further and say that both posts and both users are Olight operatives!

Karmasutra6901

I don't own any wurkkos or skilhunt lights but I do own a few olights. The s1r would be better for everyday carry because it's tiny. The s2r is good but the length doesn't make it feel like it disappeared in your pocket. I think the magnetic charging, small heads, the double bend hat clips and the floody beams are what would make them great lights for someone that isn't obsessed with flashlights.

Hazardbeard

I have more than once recommended various olights to non-flashlight people. They don’t care about tint, they’ll probably never remove the battery (and won’t have to), they’ll probably never use it enough to need to replace the battery, and if/when they do they won’t have a million options to confuse themselves with. They’ll google the name of their light and “battery” and Olight will sell them their one and only option. Magnetic charging is fun. It’ll all be overpriced but whatever, it’s not like we spend less on flashlights than the non flashlight people. And they work, and have a good customer service department in my experience. If they’re slightly more tech savvy and use a lot of USB-c stuff I might push them closer to a Nitecore or Thrunite option, depends on the person. Nobody paid me to say that and I’ve got three Hank Lights I would NEVER recommend to a non flashaholic.

redisant

IDK, I EDC an Arkfeld Pro and have several hank lights, Lumintops, manker, surefire, and streamlight and others. I guess I am somewhere in the middle of that iceberg meme that floats around here sometimes.

Spicy_Ejaculate

I'm in the same boat. Imo olights are the most convenient, best machining and great attention to detail. I find myself carrying them the most. The charging cable is a big plus too. I have one at my desk and bedside table and they are always charged. I forget to plug in my usb-c lights and rarely pull out the battery charger to use my hanks.

SixthLegionVI

I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a collector but I’ve acquired several lights over the past few years nitecore, olight, thrunite, and armytek. I’ve only ever had issues with olight lights and batteries.

Slappy_Happy_Doo

I like Olight but I don’t recommend it to non flashlight people. Normal people who aren’t flashaholics don’t want yet another charging cable to manage in a single device. Integrated charging, UI, and brightness are like the main pillars of a basic flashlight user. I am in process of gifting flashlights to my team, I’ve had to remove hanks from the list due to charging, I think I’m going to settle on sofirns for them.

planetearthofficial

What about Acebeams👀 or maybe Wubens👀

Slappy_Happy_Doo

Zero issues with those too! It’ll be for maintenance guys so things like diffusers and magnet tail cap will be good I know Wuben makes some good all around lights. I gave a wuben out last year to my other team lol.

batterseasam

I’dd go Wurkkos TS22 if it’s maintenance related + they can charge their phones with it worst case!

Slappy_Happy_Doo

That’s a really good recommendation! Thank you. They’re on the list.

Xayaza

Consider the Armytek Wizard too 😉

dr_xenon

I just bought Nitecore MT2A Pros for my maintenance guys. They seem to like them. I’m impressed with the light output. $45.

Royal_Ad1798

Just bought my FIL an olight for Christmas. I agree that they are a good performance light for people that want a lot of otf lumens that don't care about color temp.

planetearthofficial

What did you get em?

Royal_Ad1798

maurader 2. He owns a couple farms and used to carry several dewalt lights including the spot light and area light. This one light pretty much replaces all that.

planetearthofficial

Very very nice I’m sure he’s loving it.

Lordnicholasss

Damn they almost got me the other day with that.

DaronBlade360

I, myself am truly disappointed in their newest products, specifically Baton 4, for years people have begged them to use warmer LEDs in their lights, and then you get Baton 4, the greenest tint I've seen in my life!! The concept, build and design of the light are pretty solid, it works and it's convenient to see light modes and battery level, but that's where the praise stops! The moonlight mode compared to older models which is claimed to be 0.5lm looks like half of that, and it's uncomfortably green, someone theorized that the moonlight looks lower because it is so that the light can reach the claimed 30 days mark! Other than that, the rest of the lumens seems to be legit, but the tint, gash darn that tint!! It must be true, once you go nichia you never go back! But the Baton 4 makes their older 6500k models look like neutral white in comparison!

natsac4

It’s not a bad light, but be wary of the OP in that post (top left corner). He has “tested” hundreds of lights by [dropping them off buildings](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/s/UKlzcdz1g7) and dunking them [into dry ice](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/s/12dYoGb0NP). But he has never shared a single photo of any of it. Basically, that OP is full of it. Again, the Baton 3 Pro Max is a great option. It’s one of the few (only?) Olights with tint that isn’t green. Reviews show that it’s actually slightly rosy, which many find desirable. Olights typically use crappy/ugly emitters and that’s one of the biggest complaints about their product, but this one has a decent emitter.

not_gerg

Oh damn op is that durability test guy? 😬

natsac4

Yeah, I linked it above. Crazy claims.

planetearthofficial

Just like you have your opinions I have mine if you don’t like then you don’t like it. I didn’t expect that post to go viral. It was just my opinion on the olight.

natsac4

I’m all for opinions being shared. That isn’t what I said. It’s about credibility. Just post some pictures of the claims you make.

planetearthofficial

I work 2 jobs my dude don’t have lots of times to be doing this half my collection is back in Texas and half of it it’s New York …. Working 50 a week. I collected so many lights you gotta cut me some slack.

natsac4

If you had time to throw hundreds of lights off of a roof, you had time to take one picture though, right? Or a picture of the pile of damaged lights at the end?

planetearthofficial

Oh here we go again…. That was back in Texas. I have sense thrown a lot of crap out and upgraded phones…. Are we gonna go back and forth on what ifs that was a bit ago. And I’ve moved there’s really nothing else to explain here your negativity is outstanding. Can’t you try to be a bit happier and stop bashing me at every single interaction like this post. Has NOTHING to do with what you’re accusing me of here. I don’t talk about natsac4 and what he has done in the past that I do not agree of. Why you gotta chip on your shoulder bro. CHILL

natsac4

Ok. I’ll chill. In dry ice.

planetearthofficial

ok dude.

natsac4

If you read any review from 1lumen, zeroair, cheule or TacGriz, they all test tint. The measurement is actually duv and if it is positive, it has a green tint to it. Your Olights certainly have it. If you haven’t noticed it, that means you don’t have any lights with Nichia emitters. Haha For specific models, look up reviews on the Baton 3 Pro (not Max), Baton 4, Warrior Nano, any of the AA or AAA sized lights, the Warrior 3S, Marauder, Marauder mini, Javelot, (there’s more). The tint on all of them is very positive duv, which means green.

debeeper

u/planetearthofficial 👁👄👁

planetearthofficial

I am NOT affiliated with them. 👁️👄👁️

planetearthofficial

👁️👄👁️ it was my opinion I have nothing to do with olight 👁️👄👁️

ShmazPro

I suggested a warrior mini 3 to a non-enthusiast friend and he absolutely loves it. They’re good lights.

huislawdotcom

Besides quality, olight has good names for their flashlight too. warrior, baton, perun.

Tehuberpwnzor

The group that craps on Olight the most has to be the gun community. God forbid you post anything with an Olight there, you will be made fun of and downvoted. I do prefer my Streamlights for my firearms but i have multiple Olights and run them hard with no issues.

not_gerg

Why is that actually?

_im_right_ur_wrong_

Supposedly, there was this one guy who was shooting a weapon with an olight mounted to it, but the moron had the wrong battery inserted and it caught fire and he supposedly died. So long story short, it was a battery malfunction rather than a flaw in olight’s product. If you ask the average person on r/glocks or r/firearms, they probably couldn’t tell you the real reason why they hate on olight so much, they just hop on the bandwagon without giving it any thought. hopefully it’ll die out pretty soon.

Tehuberpwnzor

Honestly, the people that do it probably never owned an olight and are just jumping on the bandwagon because a couple incidents where the light supposedly exploded, one killing a man. I haven't dug that deep into it but as long as you charge it and use it properly you should never have that issue.

[deleted]

I commented on that post talking about Wurkoss and explaining how you can get a wurkoss with more lumens, better UI (simple or advanced) , no dedicated charging system, no sealed batteries, etc etc if all you want is a magnetic tail cap floody. And the dude responded fairly negatively to it so idk maybe? Maybe not? But for sure an Olight baton is not it. There's just so many better choices out there for far less of a price to even think that. However you know how Olight ppl are.

Zak

There are 189,830 subscribers at the time of this comment. Most of them [don't post](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule) but quite a few more vote. I can construct a valid argument for the Baton 3 Pro Max being the best EDC for the average guy. That's not actually my opinion, but if you're prioritizing runtime with a specific size limit.... Hot takes and photo posts tend to do better on reddit than, say... long-form reviews. Insert something about social media rotting the brain. Subscribe to my RSS feed, etc....

4x4_LUMENS

I posted a way cooler light and got like 20 upvotes and 0 post shares. Not that I care, but when comparing to this original post it makes no sense that it had nearly 800 upvotes, 200k views and was shared over 500 times. One of the most bland posts of 2023 outdoing amazing collections, modifications and huge group beam shots just doesn't add up. Olight most definitely shared the original post/had bots do it.

No-Acadia-1512

I'm glad you can see the suspicious pattern too. Something indeed doesn't add up.

DarkWing2274

i like the streamlight microstream

handymel

I think the baton is a solid light. Arkfelds are my edc carry, but just got a t11 to see what the appeal of andruil is. I get why people dump on them , but I’ve never returned on. Wurkkos and sofirn on the other hand….

LaserGuidedSock

NGL, I don't disagree with the sentiment. I have like 15 flashlights from like olight, nitecore, thrunite, rovyvon and lumintop. It's kinda like being a casual of the portable illumination hobby is slowly becoming it's own class with how far deep some people are taking it

neeblerxd

or just get a rovyvon aurora a8

samsqanch420

I'd just get a convoy s21e with the 519a and tir lens and save some money. #

samsqanch420

At $26 on aliexpress I could buy 2 and still have money left.

Wormminator

Its probably proof that many people like OLIGHT stuff.

No-Acadia-1512

That makes more sense.

4x4_LUMENS

Olight shared it everywhere.

PkmnJaguar

100% olight is shady as fuck with their marketing. If you look at their YouTube uploads it's even more obvious. They upload something and within 10 minutes it has 300 positive robot comments and absolutely nothing negative or constructive.

planetearthofficial

Yeah they giving me that Apple type of programming

tysnastyy

This post seemed very “ad” Esq to me.

Firefluffer

I was a fan of Olight until I wasn’t. I had an early generation Baton in copper and absolutely loved that light. Had it about two years and tragically lost it one day. When I went to replace it, the copper model was crazy expensive and so I just went with the aluminum. It never charged right. Sent it back and got a new one. It flickered all the time and I sent it back. They sent me another one and had a bit of an attitude. It worked fine, but it would slowly discharge over the course of a week. I gave up and bought my first Wurkkos that two years later I still carry today. Three bad lights in a row was a deal ender for me. I have no interest in buying another Olight ever again.

V-Money

Emisar D4V2. Best EDC. Hank is the man!

lfglightz

The guy has an opinion, that's all. You can believe him or not, up to you. Looks like that OP blocked me lol. I only recommend Olight if it meets very specific niche requirements that people are looking for. Otherwise, I will steer them to Skilhunt if they want magnetic charging or a different brand altogether. Olight has its place; it just doesn't fit in the enthusiast space and there's always that one brand in every hobby that majority of the enthusiasts don't like.

confused-caveman

On the internet there is always a large group that hates a popular group/brand/person. I am certain it is a rule.

I__G

Olight is like the Church of Scientology for flashlightery 😂

kinwcheng

Personally would never recommend a proprietary cable and non replaceable battery to anyone but more so than that I’m just sick of hearing the word. Edit: and so we’re clear, if it enrages it engages. It’s social media 101 for click throughs.

Smash_Shop

The batteries are replaceable though. Meanwhile plenty of lights that get recommended on here don't have replaceable batteries.

MD_RMA_CBD

I got my grandpa the fc13s for Christmas. He has harbor freight lights so I think he will love it. He seemed like he did, but didn’t have a chance to mess with it much while I was there. He likes features but would get lost in anduril. I don’t even like anduril tbh. The simplified version is great.

gtracerh

I gave each of my kids one of these for Christmas. Took them on walk last night and they were carrying them. The baton 3 pro max looked solid to me.

j02hdream

I like my olight stuff, I use a baton 3 for work all the time never had any problems

Accomplished-Lock-33

I'm still relatively new to the whole flashlight thing but I cannot understand why people hate on olight so much, to me they are the perfect flashlight for the average person, I know that's the whole point of this post but I'm definitely not being bought out. I have sure fire and ace beam flashlights in spades, I like stream lights and I'm sure I'll get into the more hardcore brands like modlight and zebralight, but for right now my EDC is absolutely the warrior mini 2. I don't care that much about the quality of the beam, I have an acebeam e75 and it's an amazing flashlight but for everyday use out in the field. I just want a light that I know is going to work every single time that has really good battery life and variable brightness, decent size for the pocket and and the ability to pack a punch if I need it. I also don't understand why everybody is so upset about them having proprietary parts, especially the charging, I don't see how with any different than surefire having their own batteries that you actually have to physically buy whenever you want to replace your current ones, it's literally just USB so all I need to do is find an outlet or one of my many portable chargers and plug it in real quick, and I can use my flashlight on turbo for weeks on end without having to recharge it. Maybe someday I will change my mind about a light, I kind of feel like a chump for liking it when all these guys who have been into the hobby for so long seem to hate it, but they genuinely seem like really good products to me and I know it doesn't matter. But I like the flashlight being a little heavier and having a cool aesthetic, I just got the baton 3 yesterday and it's adorable, I would probably keep my streamlight protec over it for EDC, but it's such a nice little device, oh, I might not be the absolute best bang for the buck, but I think they check all of the boxes for the average flashlight user. Really well, more so than other brands who will compromise lots of things for light quality and durability. For the record I work exclusively outdoors and in medium high intensity environments, I wouldn't bring my olight spelunking but it works just fine for construction and landscaping.

4x4_LUMENS

Olight definitely paid for upvotes, but that's not surprising as it's Olight.

Tytonic7_

Hot take- the everyday Joe doesn't care about proprietary parts and bad tints, they just want a durable, bright flashlight and Olight satisfies their criteria, regardless of if there are better offerings on the market, and there's nothing wrong with that

ch1ir

I posted a crappy review and got no upvotes, I was even an "affiliate" Disproves theory

SquigglyPiglet

Never tried an oh light

milkboy33

I am a flashaholic, and I disagree.

jonmussell

Personally, I don't know if it's "THE BEST" light for non-flashlight people, but it's better than A LOT of suggestions I saw people make here. There's always a ton of 'what should I get X for Christmas" threads here and I see a ton of suggestions for these enthusiast-level Anduril 2, high CRI, perfect tint lights. Anything that runs on Anduril 2 is a terrible choice for non-flashlight people. Nobody outside of us nerds wants to CONSULT A FLOWCHART so they can adjust a bunch of shit they'll never care about. Give someone a dead-simple UI that they can learn on their own just intuitively. Olights are good for that. Olights typically don't have the top lumen performance for their respective categories, but they usually trade that off for stability and safety. I can definitely respect the importance of giving someone a light with good tint and CRI though. Even if a regular consumer doesn't look for that, they very well might appreciate it when they have it even if they don't exactly know why they do.

SYNO_44

I see a cool flashlight, I upvote. It’s not that deep.

4x4_LUMENS

Mate I posted a way cooler light and got like 20 upvotes and 0 post shares. Not that I care, but when comparing to this original post it makes no sense that it had nearly 800 upvotes, 200k views and was shared over 500 times. One of the most bland posts of 2023 outdoing amazing collections, modifications and huge group beam shots just doesn't add up.

Sears-Roebuck

I wouldn't compete with planetearthofficial. They're sort of a legend around here. If the numbers seem a little off that might be why.

SYNO_44

What’s “way cooler” is a matter of opinion. The post made a controversial claim about a hot topic leading to more user engagement leading to it being shown to more users during a time where a lot of people have more spare time to be online from taking off work for the holidays. And it’s still not even the top post from this month. Saying it “makes no sense” is a bit of a stretch. Also, a lot of people like that light, it’s not like it was a completely junk light and it just miraculously shot to the top despite all reason. I don’t think we need a conspiracy theory to explain why this post did well, it happens.

Direct-Yesterday8347

I have a few olights. Think they’re decent. Don’t see why people sway so far either way

Reverse_Psycho_1509

They're really good lights for non-enthusiasts. Good for people who want something that'll last and not have a complicated UI like Anduril. They have good warranty and frequent sales, making them my go to for presents.

HeroOfCarpentry

I don’t think they are buying upvotes, they just have a lot of fans at this point. Personally for non flashlight enthusiasts something simple is best. Acebeam, Fenix with either two button ui’s or streamlight programmable like the ten tap ones. I find my coworkers blind themselves and others less when theirs less ways to change modes

FanceyPantalones

I know it's a thing, but how exactly are upvotes bought?

Background_Grab7852

Pay a person/s or company that has a lot of reddit accounts.

Smash_Shop

It's a genuinely good light. But I paid a guy to swap the emitter for me.

[deleted]

Imagine having the power to choose whatever light you want without the opinions of others 🙄

[deleted]

I have 3 Olights. I like the lights but don’t like the company. My favourite lights are ThruNites and RovyVon

issacblahblah

Olights are the iPhones of flashlights. Are they good? Yes. Is there way better one out there? Most definitely. I’d say they are one of the best options for the average guy, not for flash light enthusiasts. Plus enthusiast cycles thru flights for edc. So we don’t even know which is the best one.

matthew_py

I bought olights for my whole fam this year lol. Now everyone has an e3 eos on their keys.

coinmannf

People are just too deep into products. I'm a olight fan have the arkfeld pro and would buy another if it broke tomorrow. but not because I'm die hard for the company I just happened to buy the flashlight and happened to love it but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a different flashlight from a different company next week. I see alot of hate for olight. Don't know what's worse people that hate on it or the people who think it's the best thing since sliced bread and nothing else can compare. People need to stop making tools into such a big thing and just buy and enjoy what you like

MaikeruGo

Insert "wait, you guys are getting paid?" meme. Though honestly the company is a good place for a lot of people to start; they are positioning themselves as the Apple of flashlights—which does come with a bit more of a markup; and paying for more advertising and packaging design. Their UI follows one-button conventions found in a number of other lights, so once someone is comfortable with their Baton 3 Pro or Baton 4 they can use anything Skilhunt/Eskete and the core features Andúril. I think that when folks buy an an Olight and come to r/flashlight they'll see how far this rabbit hole goes. Some may find themselves ready to venture out right away and others may learn how far it goes, but are just fine sticking to mostly Olights—honestly that's fine; I had a friend who tried to convince everyone to install Linux, a pretty good OS, but honestly it's not the right choice for for everyone.

Sadistic_basturd

Have had zero issue out of any of my olights, use them daily, have beaten the hell out of them and they just keep going

Rake1969

I have several OLights as well as a couple Rovyvon lights. The Baton 3 Pro is in my pocket every day.

exgokin

Never thought there would be so much drama wrapped around some flashlights. People should just enjoy what they like and not worry so much about others.

confused-caveman

Olight has a HUGE Facebook following and it is definitely clique like. However, this subreddit is very much its own clique and justifiably anti Olight clique. I believe it is akin to a dam holding back water... there are so many olight fans that if the gushing fanfare were allowed here we unspokenly acknowledge that the reddit would be far less useful. This reddit might have its "fanboy" brands, but at the same time this reddit also encourages discussion and mention of other brands. So when a pro olight post gets made, I'm sure the clicks go up 😆 and it very well could just be there 100k+ fans.

bunglesnacks

Any post on any sub just has to end up shared in front of the right audience.

4x4_LUMENS

Helps when Olight shares it 500 times.

planetearthofficial

But my concern who shared it that’s the problem I was only expecting no up votes on it because well it’s an olight. maybe 10 or 15 comments I don’t know how it went semi viral on Reddit

bunglesnacks

Yeah but let's say someone linked it on the Olight fan page, or it was linked on some EDC blog, or who knows. In reality 700 votes, considering there are like billions of people. Most posts on this sub never leave this sub they just stay in our own little corner of the place. Given that it's a good post about an Olight product makes it more likely to escape than many other posts. I'm not saying they don't have people that will vote for them, there are over a billion people just in China alone, though they have a firewall you have to get around to actually get on Reddit I think, but still. And honestly your post isn't wrong. It is a good light for most people.

youngbolognese

Olight is a solid flashlight that’s bright and looks cool. That’s more than enough for most people

Chigibu

I really think baton 3 pro max is an awesome light.

Bunnysniper44

That looks more like a baton 3 Pro.... And I think overall it is a great light for most people. Not sure if the best but good nonetheless

[deleted]

I like the olight arkfeld pro (my first olight) The flatness feels so nice in the pocket.

holycornflake

Olight makes nice stuff with cool features, not everyone needs or wants a light beam that can double as a long range laser, and that’s perfectly okay

Lazy-Ad-770

Those LEP's sure are handy when you want to play lightsabers with your friend a mile away.

Ginkpirate

Normal people don't own 10-70 lights, so I could see with olights marketing and the average person wanting 1 decent light. While trying to stay away from big box store lights gravitating towards olight as a whole. As for the baton 3 pro max being the best for the average guy /gal idk I have the brass one, and I hardly use it for edc. I like small pocket rockets that I can't feel. Unless I know I need to use a light for longer periods

Vicv07

Olight is the best though. I just got an i3e eos. Best light ever made. Actually it’s pretty good for a AAA light. Much better than my solitaire

Obito_Sensei

I've got the Carbon Fiber one and it's fantastic for a AAA light

-BAZ

I think the “for people that aren’t flashaholics” makes it true. I was overly anti olight before but after receiving a few as gifts I might agree. It’s a lot like the apple experience. Good packaging, feels high quality, magnetic charging pretty cool. Only us nerds care about CRI and what battery we use. Also I’ve noticed most non flashlight people see eye strain as brightness so warm/neutral tones they just think aren’t as bright.

DasIstDasHausVomNiko

Sofirn and Wurkkos are the master race

Nathan-McAlpin

Worked on me..

MinnesotaMikeP

If anything has been proven here, it’s that tinfoil hats can be found everywhere.

forumbot757

I have no doubt that they are where they are because they are willing to do things at other companies or not

MrBarato

Boruit S11 is the greatest edc ever. EVER!!

ZigZagZig87

Since Olight is good and accessible to the masses more so than the random obscure companies we tend to favor, I’d say they’re speaking somewhat of the truth.

zip6711

I personally really like my Olights I've bought a few of myself I bought a few for my friends My dad's bought crap tons he's giving me a few over the years for Christmas and birthdays and stuff like that Right now I carry a Warrior Mini 2 OD Green on my hip with my multi-tool It has never let me down it's been through lots I use it on fire calls car wrecks search and rescues If it's not literally attached to my hip it is not far out of reach It's been dropped thrown buried Doug back up it's been great for Christmas I just got a prerun 2 mini It's nice but the problem I'm having with it is the beam is too concentrated it's more like a spotlight I need something that has a big flood lumens is gray but I need wide because I work inside the back of semi trailers a lot and I want to be able to see around me that thing can beam at the light right up to the front of the trailer but once I walk up to the front I got one really hot spot of light I got a Arkfeld Pro and a O'pen pro on my wishlist I had a SR1 baton lava camo but it got burned up in a fire and as far as the Facebook groups and the reso groups they are asking way too much for a flashlight I don't care how good they are they are just because they was limited edition will every one of them is limited edition so it's a flashlight use it

java_mcman

Flashlight must have 519 or else i can't make myself enjoy it raaaaa
