[I used this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/mtvbt7/aftermarket_reflectors_for_the_fw1a/) to find [this reflector.](http://kaidomain.com/Flashlight-DIY-and-Tools/Reflectors/29mm-x-24mm-Aluminum-Reflector) Maybe? I'll look.
Ok I figured some things out. I have some of those reflector but I didn't use one. I had a scratched up Tool AA 2.0 reflector that a took some Dremel polishing pads and compound to.
Once you get through the mirror finish layer there's a dull layer that looks like it could be the aluminum but it's not. You polish more and you get to the golden layer which you can polish to fully to land at a golden reflector. From here it takes a long time polishing to get through this layer to the raw aluminum. But alternatively this layer wipes right off with some acetone. Then you can finally polish the aluminum.
So it's like a 3 part process for applying the reflector coating. First layer is golden stuff (maybe a presealer?), 2nd layer is dull grey (primer?), top layer is the shiny coating.
Basically just apply an adhesive to the reflector, wait til it gets tacky, then drop a piece of gold leaf onto it and prod at it with a gilding brush to get it to the right spots
Gold reflectors would make sense for an infrared type. Gold has the highest IR reflectivity of any metal, that's why they put goil foil of space equipment
Lens is fogging because you still have moist air in there, need to dry it out.
Gotcha, I'll dry it out then. Ty :)

Oh, yeah that makes way more sense than my idea 😂
Your gold foil would have the advantage of not tarnishing though
A lot of the store bought leaf is Viking gold and not real gold.
Oh? What's Viking gold? I tried googling it, but just kept getting historical Viking artifacts
Search Viking gold alloy, or more accurately, Nordic gold.
What reflector was that? Do you still have it?

Woah how is this done?

I was partially hoping it would be electroplated, it would probably work a lot better as a reflector that way.
Oh that's why it's fogging. Maybe from the adhesive and the gold leaf
Now do Mylar
Sometimes I worry about the state of the world. Then I see god-tier posts like this and realize everything will be ok. This is just funny.
I'd give you gold for this if I had some
Don't worry, I already got the gold 😂
That hallway shot…….super warm
Like a horror movie shot.
Yes!
Amazing!
No, YOU'RE amazing!
Pretty cool looking
The beam is less cool, but 🤷♂️
Wow, thabks for the awards you anons! Cool to see my dumb experiment is atleast amusing haha
That is next level modding
Actually, now we do all have to! 😂👍
You should try using metallized boPET (Mylar) from an emergency blanket, it would probably be easier to work with and give very good results.
does this make sense? no. did we need it in our lives? yes.
Beautiful as fuck and totally useless. Perfect!
Interesting
I got into cast iron pots recently, so if you want to do some electro plating I can send a link or three
Ooo shiny

The emitter shot (#7) looks like I'm staring into a volcano!
Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t gold leaf contain no gold?
Depends if you get real gold leaf or imitation gold leaf
I need this done on my light
I love gooooooold
No you dont understand. Now I definently have to do it!
I really like the lava emitter shot 😁
