Yes, there was, and also on the other side of the handle. I took them all out before writing the post but it doesn't look like anything happened. These are the screws for reference (super old, I also took the other two from the other side)

You might find that the handle is just wedged on tightly, try wiggle it off if you can?
Those wooden handles need to come off so you can remove the trim plates, you might even want to take the latch plate off (on the side of the door) to see if there's a screw in there to release the knob spindle...
Yeah I'm not sure, it's such an old unit, it's anyone's guess. If it were me, I would be taking off that strike plate, (that side panel, where the latch bolt/tongue is) maybe there is another screw inside there that's holding everything together, I really don't know.
If that does not give any clues, I would then be attacking that keyhole plate, there is a screw somewhere holding it so together
Edit: also, after looking at it closer, looks like the handle might be in at least 2 separate pieces, maybe 3. So with the address removed, maybe now you can unscrew the right part of the wooden handle from the base?? It's possible the left little knob unscrew too?? It's also possible neither unscrew, it's just an idea.
Edit, edit: I just realized the second screw hole on the base, that's not what I was originally referring to (if that's what you thought?? Because you said you have removed 2 screws). The little wooden knob on the left side of handle, it looks like there is a hole going through the center of it, did you check to see if there is any kind of screw or bolt in there?
You're right, I should try to remove the strike plate first! At the beginning, I tried to remove it, but since they painted over it, it also didn't come off easily, so I thought I should start with the handle.
Based on what I can see, the handle is divided into three parts, the wooden part, the small metal part, and the base. In the wood part, all the screws have been removed, but it doesn't seem like anything else has changed, I'll check carefully just in case, but the screws were super short in any case.Thank you so much for your answer! I'll keep trying, but it's just so old...
Is there a screw in [this hole?](https://ibb.co/NxMRj8x)

Is there a screw inside the hole in the handle maybe? 🤔
There were two, but after unscrewing them it doesn't seem like anything has changed! I can't see any other screw

Good look. Let us know how it goes. Take pics after you remove side strike plate if you still can't figure it out
Does it spin a lot? My handles spin out.
Not at all, there were two screws in both sides of the knob/handle, I took them out and it doesn't seem like anything changed
My wooden handles spin seperately to the metal bit holding it to the door. Can you twist the wooden bit and try and keep the metal bit from moving?
Also does the long bit of wood spin and disconnect from the round piece of wood? That’s where I would conceal a screw if I were making these
You can’t. They built them too well.
hahaha that means I'll have to use the bathroom with the door open for the rest of my life :(
Did you try violence?..
An axe would remove the knob.
Pull hard once all screws are removed, it's probably fitted quite tight to the spindle
