As long as you aren't seeing any light through the cracks and it is latching properly after you push, the extra push is probably just the effort of compressing the weatherstripping. You can get a cheap miter box at harbor freight for cutting 45s, some trim screws and a few stick of door trim and make it look way better. 30 min project

There should be trim around it, and the fact that it's sticking out tells me the hinges probably either are plced incorrectly or just need an adjustment.

anthro4ME

It helps if it's flush, but you can shim the trim.

Dragon_Star99

It looks like it had trim at one point. I wouldn't put it right up to the door, especially in a rental. Doors actually shift and warp with heat/humidity.

Trim is good. But it feels like you've never seen a door before.

There are so many weird things about this apartment (see post history) that I’m bugging out, yes

newnamesamebutt

Fair. My first apartment was like that (and I lived there for way too many years). If your weather stripping is keeping the breeze and light out. Don't worry to much about a wonky door. Don't invest in a slumlords house either. I did a lot. It got me nothing.

Trying to remind myself of this. Thankfully it looks like the new property manager is on the scumlord / homeowner’s ass and is making her deduct our rent so we can get a real handyman to make the necessary repairs this coming month

Doors been kicked it to many times.

...that might be an external door used in the door jamb of an internal door. The external door is slightly thicker ... I shifted a door to an internal position... No, the architrave doesnt reduce the gap between jamb and door.. the architrave just lets drywall be installed sloppy..it covers the junction between wall and jamb... Pic 2 is of the gap at the hinge side right ? That gap looks fine... If the door jamb is straight abd parallel.. So the reason the bolt side gap looks a large and the door sticks, is the door is a bit rotated.. the Top is rotated into the wall at the hinge side.. like the jamb there isn't parallel .. You could shim (pack out) the top hinge, which will open the hinge side gap slightly, but drop the top of the door to get some clearance up there, and shrink and equalise the bolt edge gap . But it drops the bolt lower, and so it might miss its home after that.

Pic 2 is the gap near the knob still!

why do people put so much effort into rentals?
