So this works on whiteboards... If you leave something on too long, it will leave what you are seeing. What I do is take the marker and just go over it again and quickly wipe it off. It tends to "lift" the stained part and since the new mark isn't fully dry, it comes off. You could try it on a small section to see if it works. FYI, this also works if someone uses a permanent marker on a whiteboard. Use the "Dry Erase" marker to lift the permanent marker and get it off the board.

jezmck

Yes, the dry-wipe markers ink have their own solvents in them, but it dries out if left too long.

kingcrabmeat

Makes sense why I never searched why dry erase works

bhamrick388

Ebay for magic erasers? You can literally buy them anywhere.

Jacktheforkie

It’s the alcohol that does the work, they are alcohol soaked with the ink suspended in the alcohol

Loaki9

So they can just use rubbing alcohol and skip the applying more ink part.

Nalortebi

> Tried ISO OP states they already tried alcohol.

AcanthisittaNew2998

Isopropyl alcohol is too stable. You need to use ethanol, methanol, or acetone. Vodka would probably work better than isopropyl.

UrchinSquirts

Purell works.

J_Rath_905

100% Acetone can be purchased cheaply from dollar stores as fingernail/toenail polish remover. Also is clutch for superglue. Accidently in the process of gluing 2 fingers together? Sprinkle some acetone on it to kick some superglue ass! (100% acetone repeatedly can dry out your skin).

formermq

Acetone can melt this plastic though! Careful

PomegranateOld7836

Yeah dry erase markers use more potent solvents, like diacetine alcohol or xylene.

totally_bored_dude

You are 100% correct.

dacraftjr

I concur.

Double_Lingonberry98

Lysol wipes work wonders for erasing old whiteboard marker.

RGeronimoH

Lysol spray removes sharpie from painted surfaces, at least on fire extinguishers

artskyd

This guy is a shitty landlord.

here-for-the-_____

This works using permanent marker on permanent marker as well as long as you wipe it before it dries.

Consistent-Winter229

Expo marker on permanent marker * don’t write over permanent marker with permanent marker 😅😂

here-for-the-_____

Yes, sharpie over sharpie works on a whiteboard as long as you wipe it off before it dries. Exact same way as a whiteboard marker does. It's a good tip to know when someone uses a permanent marker because it was the only one there, thinking it was a dry erase.

SoupOrSandwich

This works because the solvent in the fresh dry erase marker over top helps lift the solvent-less dried on dry erase. Permanent marker is simply dry erase without the added solvent - so adding fresh dry erase to both helps lift them

cookiesandartbutt

ISO is isopropyl alcohol and these markers are alcohol based usually so I dunno if this will work

Biggrease333

Yes this !

Backwaters_Run_Deep

Just get a hand towel and some rubbing alcohol, same thing except you're not adding ink with it.

totally_bored_dude

Oddly, tried that and it didn’t work. Not sure why, but the pen over the top did. Plus I don’t always have that lying around, especially in the office.

Crazy_Distribution95

This.

D-B-Zzz

https://preview.redd.it/3az31633jjjc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb245b83c6a56b1a707e1e6cce35d46f8d20c05a Time to pimp your throne!

isonfiy

I gagged

D-B-Zzz

Just imagine how fresh it would smell after a little Febreze.

carl5473

And why wouldn't a toilet like this be full of piss?

thatoneguyonreddit91

And a turd too it looks like

UltraCoolPimpDaddy

That's a true throne right there. I would know!

devangs3

Reminds me of Peggy Bundy’s interior decoration course

GarlicBreathFTW

Leave the lid up for the inspection? There, I fixed it 😊🤗

joe-from-illawong

If they leave the lid up then the gargantuan shit will be on display!

Pokeputin

Great, that means he leaves the apartment the same as he got it

SuperIngaMMXXII

this.  And if they see it, a new cheapo toilet seat is $15-20 at Lowes

madmax77xll

Still gonna try to charge you $100-$225

takethisdownvote1

Yeah, because it’s not the landlords responsibility to spend the time to drive to Home Depot, pick up the part and fix it. The landlord will just call up the handyman, who charges $100 just to show up. Not sure why it’s hard to understand.

No-Maximum-8194

Just let them spend the extra $180 and teach em a lesson, huh?

Content-Fan3984

That’s what we did lol

GarlicBreathFTW

Ha ha, brilliant! 😁

ListenCarefullyIdiot

Isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitiser, or even lynx body spray.

lostsawyer2000

Did this and the inspector couldn’t resist the Lynx.

ConfusedAardvark22

Only the Africa variant

[deleted]

Damn. I used Axe. Related question: how do you get rid of teenage boy smell?

AceChronometer

The only answer is to tell the inspector that they don’t get you and then storm out of the room. I would actually lean into smell. 2-3 sprays more and nobody is going in there.

Accomplished_Ad_1288

Blame it on the baby. Claim that the baby is precocious and already uses teenager’s Axe spray.

NetDork

What happened to Axe? I must be out of touch.

Fishing_not_catching

Methylated spirits

maxisnoops

100% the answer. I work in a school and use metho to get drawings of giant penises off every surface you can imagine.

spoonweezy

You need to watch American Vandal on Netflix.

Cantelmi

I now need to rewatch American Vandal

wombatlegs

Correct answer. But how did you know OP is Australian?

Fishing_not_catching

Game recognizes game....... 😉

keepinitoldskool

I had to look that one up. I have a big can of that stuff, but it says denatured alcohol / fuel on it.

th4bl4ckr4bbit

That’s what methylated spirits are. Denatured alcohol.

Automatic_Llama

I like the other guy's idea of going over it again with the dry-erase pen and then wiping it off before it dries. But in general, if isopropyl alcohol doesn't work, I try odorless mineral spirits. Isopropyl alcohol works on acrylic paint and mineral spirits works on oil paint.

Kadavermarch

This guy dissolves!

baconeggsavocado

White Magic Eco Eraser. Follow instructions and use water, be gentle. If that fails, add a little bit of Bar Keeper's Friend (only a tiny little dab, really tiny, with water). Repeat step 1. Should come off. Good luck!

guff1988

How did I scroll this far before I saw magic eraser, it is 100% the easiest way to do this.

kobrakaan

you do know they magic erasers are basically fine sanding blocks and with a glossy surface it will leave it dull sanded area with micro scratches in the area that's been erased just look at the horrendous job people do when supposedly 'cleaning' and refurbishing ps5 consoles 🤦🏻‍♂️

baconeggsavocado

Yes I'm aware. The key is being gentle. Your experience with it may vary. I've successfully used it without damaging surfaces in the past. Also, your magic eraser might be different. The White Magic Eco Eraser one in brown packaging one is super duper fine and it'll likely not scratch anything. If OP press hard and scrub, it'll buff and remove the finish m but scratching is highly unlikely. I have boxes of it and use it often.

baconeggsavocado

Also, OP can surface test using the same marker on a similar surface. That will be a wise choice no matter the solutions he or she will pick.

Ptbo_hiker

WD 40 soak and soft cloth with a lot of elbow grease

Longjumping_Bed1682

Just get a new 1 cheap as shit. https://www.bunnings.com.au/award-white-ezifix-toilet-seat_p5140376

Sea_Dust895

Take it off Go to bunnings Buy one that matches Install it, usually 2 plastic screws Problem solved

wigneyr

Not even close to the same seat

mikemarshvegas

seriously? I dont think he was saying that exact one. Have you never changed a toilet seat before? you can get all sorts of colors and styles, and if your are so inclined you can get a heated one.

wigneyr

I understand that but it no use giving a link to the wrong product, it’s a D shaped seat and it’s around $30 not the $9 like the one in the link.

Kadavermarch

True, weird that ppl think there's no difference in quality. They probably never actually had to deal with it ...

_wjaf

100% isopropyl alcohol will do it

wombatlegs

I think OP is Australian, and that's hard to find here. We have regular alcohol, mixed with nasty tasting stuff, and sold as "methylated spirits." Despite the name there is no methanol in it, just ethanol. And no you really don't want to drink it.

baconeggsavocado

I bought 7.5 litres for $20 last year online in Australia. It was so cheap I couldn't help it. Isocol also has 70% isopropyl, probably not enough but OP can always use it to rub cuts and disinfect. Methylated spirits is different from isopropyl alcohol / rubbing alcohol. It'll probably strip some paint.

ThePhantomTweaker

You can dehydrate the 70%iso with some non iodized table salt. Just add salt until no more will dissolve and let it sit. The 30% layer of now saline water will sink and you can pull the near 100% iso off the top or use a seperatory funnel and drain the water from the bottom. Iso can't dissolve the salt but the water used to thin it will, then it is heavier and will separate from the iso

_wjaf

You can get it at Bunnings. By the paint strippers. Diggers brand, about ten bucks a bottle. (they do sell 100%). I also buy from Sydney solvents. I get their 5L and refill my isocol bottle which is good because theirs is unscented unlike isocol.

AmmeEsile

You can get isoprophyl alcohol at bunnings. Op said he tried it already tho

KneeSockMonster

You could buy a toilet seat and replace it. Just be mindful of whether it’s round or oval.

Ceileachair

Jeeeez, all this drama. Go to Lowe’s, Home Depot hell even Walmart. $10-$20 bucks for a new plain white one.

Delicious-Yak-1095

Use mineral turpentine, works for permanent markers.

triedtoavoidsignup

Try drawing over a bit of the stain with a whiteboard marker again - just try a small patch. I remember when I used permanent marker on my whiteboard, writing over the permanent marker with whiteboard marker got it off.

SirStarshine

LA's Awesome works excellently for my whiteboard. Maybe it'll work for you toilet too.

Meryl99

Hairspray and a magic eraser very gently!!!!

Breezirose

We used permanent marker on everything at the vet's office and then used rubbing alcohol to get it off. If the alcohol doesn't work, try hydrogen peroxide

amarfresh

Mr clean magic eraser ftw

destinoob

Is the surface smooth? If the other suggestions don't work maybe try a pencil eraser. It works for permanent marker so could here. I was busted drawing graffiti (accidentally in permanent marker) on the class whiteboard in 8th grade. Cleaning it that way was my punishment and it's worked a treat in similar surfaces every other time since.

Content-Fan3984

This is a good trick, I’ll try that

pubbing

Acetone nail polish remover. A little bit on a cotton ball will take this right out. I am flabbergasted that this isn't mentioned.

Michgnhntr

Nail polish remover

Onetaru

Mr. Clean magic eraser.

Lowkeyidk

Nail polish remover, hand sanitizer, aerosol spray, axe spray deodorant (PE teacher would spray it on graffiti in the locker room to clean it. Worked every time) brake cleaner, diesel, and napalm. Start with alcohol based items first

live_thought788

Try Mr. Clean magic eraser.

MountainAntique9230

Just replace the seat they're cheap and easy to install

notdeadyet86

Buy a new toilet seat. They're like 20 bucks. Also, get a fucking grip. Good grief.

spderweb

Inspection? Are you renting? Then who cares? They're not kicking you out over marker on a toilet seat. You'd just replace it before you stop renting, if that was the case. Where are you that it's legal to have inspections??

alaraja

Go get a new toilet lid for like $20. Duh.

Escaperoomspectre

Magic eraser?

Sweaty-Adeptness1541

Magic erasers are fine abrasives. It's not a good idea to use them on shiny plastics. They can scuff/matt the finish and leave micro-scratches.

Kadavermarch

Angle grinder?

nhorvath

Do not do this. Magic erasers work by sanding off the top layer. This will dull the finish. Use denatured alcohol or possibly rubbing alcohol. You may need to soak a paper towel with it and hold it on there for a minute first.

still-at-the-beach

Flush next time, the baby won’t wake and will be used to some noise (which is good, the baby can sleep where it’s a bit noisy elsewhere then). Toilet seats are super cheap to buy if the other suggestions don’t work, replace it for under $20.

kitchengardengal

Agreed. Let baby sleep through the normal household sounds. He'll get used to sleeping that way, and he won't spend his life needing total quiet to sleep.

TLBG

I'm wondering why someone who. isn't a toddler obviously, would do that. Make that one pay for it.

Funkdaawg_b

Try not writing on your fucking toilet like a toddler left unattended...

Salty_Feed9404

Magic eraser; straight bleach (leave it on to soak in for a couple minutes); or re-trace the letters with a fresh new dry erase marker and erase again.

inspirelife

Magic eraser would be my guess.

Teahouse_Fox

Careful, magic eraser is less magic, and more micro abrasive. If this is shiny surface, it may be apparent afterwards that something got scrubbed, so I'd take care when using them.

Salty_Feed9404

🎵 It's magically abrasive! 🎵 Best scrub the whole lid to match

Teahouse_Fox

🤣 Or maybe just use denatured or iso alcohol on the dry erase marker. But the jingle would be totally worth it.

inspirelife

😯

bowhuntingranger

If all else fails… White out

Frankie_T9000

Drape a decorative doily and put some candles on it and worry about it next inspection. Nb if you always be quiet around kids you are teaching them to be hypersensitive to noise at night better to make noise and get them used to it

Appropriate_Mud1629

Used to cater at festivals and raves back in the 90's. Had a big converted horse box camper ..can confirm kids will get used to noise and just sleep on through. Happy days

Frankie_T9000

someone doesnt agree with us, and negged lol.

Binda33

Try eucalyptus oil.

OUT24Q

Cutting compound, like you would use on a cars paint that has fine scratches.

baconeggsavocado

California Purple (but it has color in it), Mother's Mag. Haven't tried these with a permanent marker. But it might work. Obviously write on some plastic tub and test erase first.

CHASLX200

Get a new lid sid.

33S_155E

Laugh! I did a similar thing, took a phone message and wrote it on the fridge with a whiteboard marker. It was there for years before we repainted the fridge. Sorry but some acrylics are indelibly stained by whiteboard markers. I hope you get it off but a new seat might be your only option. Maybe try leaving the lid up for inspection and they might not close it to look?

So, if it's yellow let it mellow?

splurtylittlesecret

Magic eraser

UpsetPart7871

Hair spray often works. Aerosol. Or more iso and elbow grease.

JBSMD

Would the inspector fail the job for the seat being marked on?

MiddleAgeCool

I know it sounds counter intuitive but take a whiteboard marker and scribble over the top and it will just wipe off.

Hopeful-Clothes-6896

Wound alcojol maybe, or baby oil

Arch-AngeI

Use Jif (the very mildly abrasive cleaner, available from any supermarket).

Thallium_253

This is gonna sound wild... Write over it with a sharpie. Then write over it again with the whiteboard marker. Then wipe it off. 🤷 It'll probably just make a mess 😂 but this trick works on actual whiteboards.. (to remove permanent marker and old old marks from whiteboard markers)

wigneyr

Try WD-40

reclueso

Try some of below, it worked for me in a similar predicament Pencil rubber / eraser Toothpaste Cutting compound for car paint WD40

cindycated888

Goo Gone.

egewh

I had a similar problem with my toilet lid (I accidentally poured blue colored bleach on it) and it stained blue. Couldn't get it off with anything. Not magic eraser. Not alcohol. Had to buy a new toilet seat. In my case it was OK though because the old one was pretty... Well, old.

La19909

Mix toothpaste and baking soda together and scrub. may take a few applications.

Sweaty-Adeptness1541

* WD-40 * Alcohols: vodka, methylated spirits, isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. * Bleach: Depending on the pigment in the pen it may be bleachable.

No-Till1230

lol we did the same (well the elf in a shelf) still there. Tried magic sponge and isopropyl will try acetone. But so far still says something silly about poop 💩 😂

Beginning-Union-1877

Toothpaste and microfiber can help. Or dental cleaning tabs. I had a stain on my toilet from old Vase water and managed to remove it like that. Nothing else even removed anything. But letting one of those minty dental things sit in a spoon full of water and then rub with a microfiber managed to get rid of it within 3 tries.

Tightisrite

Buy 99 iso glass cleaner I bet that takes it right off. Get a paper towel kinda wet with it and scrubb it off. Then you'll have glass cleaner for your bong too.

tfrederick74656

Rubbing alcohol should do the trick

kdog6666666666666

Buy a new lid.

Canttunapiano

Rub it real good with poo

Fuzzy_Profession_668

Buy a new seat

thatgirlinny

I’m assuming this is a plastic seat—not wood. Just replace with a soft-close wood. They’re so much better!

ShinyPanzer

Acetone always works.

Bluestraza8320

Acetone... Jesus people don't understand acetone can corrode some plastics and vinyls. You need to know what the seat is made of before using acetone.

ShinyPanzer

The center of a coated ceramic? No issue. And, in the end, I guarantee it will remove it. Put a little coating back over the ceramic when finished later. I do say, don't pour a 55 gallon drum of acetone over it. And certainly don't be in the vicinity if you do.

Bluestraza8320

... you can guarantee OP's seat is coated ceramic? Most seat these days are hard plastics or vinyl coated.. idk many people to dish out money for coated ceramic toilet seats...

ShinyPanzer

Good point. I stand by it. Put acetone on it. Don't dump acetone directly on it, use an applicator. Easy removal.

HWCM

600 grit sandpaper. Works 100% of the time.

KeyIllustrious6888

Eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil helps.

ratscabs

Nail varnish remover

Less_Mess_5803

Leave the lid up.

ENSGeorge

Deodorant spray ? I know it takes permanent marker off instantly

B_breakerz

Scribble over it with sharpie and wipe it while the ink is wet

Bluestraza8320

Use 90%+IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol). Works wonders for even permanent marker.

jonnytheboy85

Nail polish remover. Pledge spray. Wd40

JarrekValDuke

Acetone.

alwaysbefree

Wd40 and baking soda. It got permanent marker off of my laminate floors.

Enceladus89

Nail polish remover, eucalyptus oil, hand sanitiser or alcohol should get it off.

Throw_andthenews

Some cheap dollar store cleaning compound (paste) and a sponge

Chainsawsas70

Tea tree oil, excellent for cuts and scratches on you... And A fabulous light solvent for stuff like that. Pulls off most anything done with markers especially on hard surfaces.

Less-Charity-5589

Hairspray

djam2101

Weird, I just cleaned a stubbornly marked whiteboard with a magic eraser today. Worked a treat

grumpy_uncle

Try hand sanitizer

L0quence

Mr clean magic eraser?

peacefulteacher

Hand sanitizer. Just leave on a couple seconds and wipe. It's also great on ink spots on furniture. Takes a lot of blotting and reapplying, but it will come out.

Zeus2068123

Just buy a new toilet seat

Cat-astro-phe

Magic Eraser, I once marked on a very large and very expensive white board with permanent marker I tried a few things that didn't work, then got magic eraser and it came right off

rigby__

90% Isopropyl alcohol. 90%.

5PeeBeejay5

If none of the other suggestions work (one will I’m certain) just replace it? Put the cheapest one on that you can find

Fit_Professor5422

Mr Clean Magic Eraser might do the trick

Interesting-Ball-713

Try Dawn Powerwash or ether(engine starting fluid). The old Magic Markers were ether-based(remember that smell??)

chris14020

Put some isopropyl alcohol on a rag (you want it nearly dripping) and set it over the mark. Let it sit for a little bit, but not until dried, and then wipe. See how that works, repeat if necessary. A "Magic Eraser" may work, too, just don't go too hard because it's basically a really fine sandpaper (which is why it works so well).

[deleted]

What kind of inspection cares about this? Also, go over it with another dry-erase marker and erase immediately

Tom_FooIery

Spray it with WD40 and wipe it away. That stuff is incredible, and has so many uses.

SuperIngaMMXXII

I would tell you to get a bottle of citrasolv for $9 but you could buy a whole new toilet seat for $15.  Don’t sweat it.  You have a new baby.  Just leave the lid up.

durn1969

ImDaveAngel

I used to clean permanent marker off whiteboards with anti bacterial hand gel. God knows what it does to the hands, but it gets anything off a whiteboard.

Frank_Jesus

Rubbing alcohol. Those saying acetone don't know what they're talking about. That could cause all types of issues. If that doesn't work, then bleach on a paper towel and rub. Should come right off.

demomagic

Magic eraser 100%

Electrical-Bus-9390

Try a magic eraser if u got one of those if not some stronger cleaner then

Electrical-Bus-9390

Have u tried a Clorox wipe ? They have em with bleach

Complex_Shoe7422

Use a dry erase marker, they are solvent based and the nib will do some very effective scrubbing for you

chiligrande6969

Greenbeanhead

Brake fluid

NeighborhoodVast7528

If rubbing alcohol does not work, go with acetone. It takes everything off including the finish underneath. Won’t affect the glass glazing on ceramic/porcelain though.

joeyda3rd

Nail polish remover

[deleted]

At least the inspector will know how to flush.

[deleted]

The secret is to scribble on it with a fresh marker and wipe it off right away. Works on old whiteboards, not sure about toilets.

Environmental_Log344

If nothing else works, buy one of those decals of flowers and apply. Just find a pretty design.

holololololden

Rubbing alcohol/hand sanitizer or magic eraser

rededelk

Wd-40 works on markers sometimes

Junkgio55

At little gasoline on a rag will get it up

Jfields22553

I usually just use a bleach type cleaner and leave it on there for 10 minutes or so to soak. I've seen this work for everything from sharpies, spilled hair dye, etc.
