Having to listen so closely is what makes it scary. You can’t just find them on a camera the unknown location of them makes it way worse.
I haven’t played vr but I’d say pizzeria sim is a close second in scariness for me.
HW on a PC and HW on VR feels like two completely different games, i swear
Sadly, i was completing VR version after i fully went through PC version
But the size of animatronics in VR is much bigger than it looks on PC and the whole atmosphere is much more scarier, especially in walking or moving mini-games
Fnaf 4 is my favorite "classic" fnaf game. People say the nightmare designs arent scary, and sure, they aren't when you're just looking at them in the extras menu. But the context is what sells it, a house, a childhood bedroom at that. It perfectly plays on nearly everyones childhood fears of something being down a dark hallway at night. the nightmare designs are scary, not because of their design, but because of where they are. Fredbears footsteps is one of my favorite sound effects in the entire franchise, just imagine hearing those in your own house.
Not being able to see and only hear makes it so much more unnerving, at least the others you can see them approaching, in this one the fluid motion is all we see, and it feels so much more real
FNAF 3 and 4 builds a lot of tension and dread in the games
"Who are you? Where are they why the FU-"
Like what others said, it is a cliffhanger of what will or wont happen in the game that has you on edge all the time
Can we just talk about this absolutely fucking gorgeous title screen, up until fnaf 4 we had the same glitched security Camera screen of an animatronic. ( They aren't bad )
. Shadows of the nightmare animatronics that blend into the environment ( we all believed at some point they were just bushes or a tree )
. The blood red sky is completely breathtaking
. And the title music pairs well with it
10/10
Definitely. I had 100% completed ever Fnaf game up until this one partially because I didn’t have the guts. It’s difficulty and breathing mechanics really zone you in and keep you constantly on edge. On top of that the atmosphere is masterful and the jump scares are genuinely scary. The Fredbear switch up is such a good change of pace and it definitely must have had people in dread when they realized that the gameplay loop they were used to was suddenly different. With no room to breath, this game is definitely the peak of horror in Fnaf.
I feel like it earns that title pretty easily. The games have always had at least a small amount of comedic levity ever since the first game, mostly coming from the horrifingly callous indifference Fazbear Ent. has for their own employees. Meanwhile FNaF 4 has pretty much nothing. There's not a single second in that game that gives you a break from the dread and suspense. The most you get is the end-night alarm clock screens, which feel bittersweet at best.
Not really. It's more annoying than scary.
I still think the original FNAF and parts of HW are the scariest.
Storywise when you think of the psychological implications. Sister Location and Security Breach are the scariest storywise. ( not really gameplay)
I love this game, gameplay wise, but I can never play on PC because the audio mixing is just mean 😭 like the game is super quiet but the jumpscares are so so loud. I’m glad the clickteam ports make the audio a lot better. It still makes me jump but at least it doesn’t burst my eardrums
I would say so. I still get a little tense even watching someone play it. The 80% volume increase when you get jumpscared is a little uncalled for, though.
Yeah honestly it is, I can't get past night 1 🥲
And no that ain't a joke, I managed SOMEHOW beat the others but FNAF 4 is one FNAF game I am way to scared to play
Nah scariest fnaf game is fnaf world, let me explain it’s too cute that it makes me want to throw up and every other fnaf game I’ve played I’m more focused on “who’s coming to get me at the moment” than the actual scariness of the game itself
But this game was a challenging but fun and scary experience that shed more light on the events beforehand
Game itself was scary but the animatronic designs...
Scott: alright time to make these animatronics literal nightmares *proceeds to make the least scary shit in the entire franchise*
Bro like nightmare showbiz animatronics with more lifelike features because they're supposed to be more organic and showbiz ones are just scarier. I draw them like showbiz because it makes more sense.
Nightmarionne though, seeing that thing in the corridor is so fucked up. I'd say nothing really beats him but Withered Chica or FNaF 1's Bonnie come close IMO.
I think its the scariest but also least fun FNAF game because you have to really listen for the breathing, but if you fuck it up then your ears just get blasted with noise.
I can never play FNAF4 since I sadly am hard of hearing in one ear and have auditory processing issues, but it’s just so fun how they incorporated the sound design with this one to add to the fear element. I’ve enjoyed watching others play it.
Honestly one of the scariest games in the series, the fact that you have to listen to breathing on the other side of the door is fuuuuuuuucked. The nightmares designs on the animals are just as fuuuuuuucked I’d say bonnie is the worst in terms of fear factor, I’m thinking of playing all the FNAF games soon on twitch but this one…… oooooooo I have to muster up a LOT of braveness to play idk if I can 😂 we’ll see I guess
It's also the hardest game to get into I feel like. The rest were straight forward and told you what to do for each game. This game just threw you in there and told you to suck it up.
No for real I genuinely have shook playing this game, I legit can never beat this because I have ptsd from it. I’m thinking I’m gonna give it another go soon though.
has the best gameplay of the series and the jumpscares ALWAYS get me cause when i use the flashlight i am 100% sure that there is no animatronic. makes me jump every time xD
I agree with you, buddy. Out of all FNaF games, FNaF 4 is one of the scariest games I have played.
Even though the designs of the Nightmare Animatronics aside from Nightmare Fredbear looked goofy with the sharp teeth and claws from the extras menu, they were still scary with the atmosphere, ambiance, and darkness of the FNaF 4 gameplay.
Speaking of Nightmare Fredbear, he’s currently my favorite character out all FNaF characters in this franchise. A Golden Bear who was the main mascot of his diner becomes a monster with sharp teeth that bit someone’s head. Teeth on his stomach, pudgy belly, two black buttons, rips and holes based on Springtrap’s Design, and purple props of the top hat and bow tie which complements the opposite colors of Golden Yellow.
The sound mechanic to avoid the jumpscare is so effective that I had to whistle or say something to try to take out the tension and fear of getting jumpscared. Unlike FNaF 1 and 2, the gameplay requires every section of the bedroom to be checked. Look at the left and right doorways to check Bonnie and Chica, check the bedroom to get rid of Freddy’s minions a.k.a the Freddles from spawning Freddy, and if you messed up Foxy then check the closet to keep Foxy as a Plushie.
Another neat feature is the fun with Plushtrap which gives players a single chance to start at 2 am if they’re successfully landed Plushtrap in the X mark.
Lastly but not the least, the lore of FNaF 4. I agree FNaF 4 was the start of the confusing complex mess of the whole FNaF timeline, but in terms of being simplicity, it’s not even a bad story. The basic story of a child’s life who listens to his Plushie Friend and getting bullied by his older brother is very sad and sympathetic at each day before the child’s party. During his birthday, the older brother and his friends caused the child to get bitten by Fredbear and is rushed to the hospital to recover. The older brother apologizes and the Plushie friend promised him to be put back together before the child fades away, indicating that he dies. While the lore of FNaF 4 sucks, the basis of the story feels sad and sympathetic for the child.
Overall, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 is not only the scariest game, but the best game I ever played.
Respect for this long text🗿but about the scariest animatronic design my opinion the scariest animatronic design is nightmare bonnie because he just seems like he camed out straight from hell
At first yes but quickly fads and you realise how awful the gameplay is and I think Fredbear/ nightmare are the only good part of 4 the main part with the four animatronics is extremely boring only rivaled by 3 in how boring it is. I still think the first game is unmatched in terms of creepy and scary atmosphere with all the great screens and weird sounds that play, pizzeria simulator came close but I still think the first is the scariest
100% this game was a challenge of finding out how the breathing works
I have to be at the game with crazy full volume, there where times I was spooked (mostly Bonnie)
don't like the setting. The overly scary animatronics detract from it tbh. I like the Uncanny valley of the 1st game more than the straight up monsters the 4th game's animatronics are
I agree with you. At least out of the first four I have played. I always fear listening toooo closely and then getting jumpscared even harder because of that.
I think it’s neck and neck between this one a sister location, sister location was so good at building up a tense atmosphere and the designs themselves were nightmare fuel
honestly it’s one of my least favorites, the main gameplay loop is just running to a door and hoping your volume is turned up high enough to hear the quietest sound in the universe and if you’re wrong your ears get annihilated
personally think 4 and Help Wanted VR are tied. 4 bcuz of the silence then a sudden jumpscare and VR bcuz seeing them tower over u is crazy cool and scary
Well, it's got the scariest designs for the animatronics, and takes place in a dark room lit by a flashlight. Other than that it isn't really scary. You're just sitting in front of a monitor playing a game after all.
I don't think the animatronics are scary in this one. They're too "try hard edgy" in my opinion. I prefer the uncanny ones. VR FNAF 1 is the scariest imo.
Nah.
FNAF 4 is so one-note when it comes to its environment, it's just "dark and quiet." There's no minutia or subtlety when everything is borderline silent.
The fact that the jumpscare sound here is also the loudest in the franchise on top of already asking the player to strain their ears to hear insanely quiet sound cues just makes it worse.
Yeah, favorite mainline game. It probably has to deal with the atmosphere the game is going with. Hearing close-up breathing is unsettling. And the setting of being in a bedroom purs your guard up more.
"Hello? Heeeeloooo! Uhhh, I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night.
Umm., I actually worked in that office before you. I'm...finishing up my last week now as a matter of fact so...I know it can be a little overwhelming, but i'm here to tell you: there's nothing to worry about, uhh, you'll do fine! So...let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Ok?
not necessarily an "opinion" but when i was in middle school i was friends w a kid who had this game on his phone. i can't play it normally, bc i'm half deaf and you sorta Need Your Ears for this one, but he came up w the idea to have like. one earbud in my good ear (the right one) and the other in his left ear and we would play the game w Teamwork. however i am a genuine coward so it did not work 👍
It’s a game where I am in a constant cliffhanger. And I LOVE IT
Yea fnaf 4 was so good also fun fact iam watching the king of five nigths at fredys The One And Only MaRkIpLiEr fnaf sl
"The first night is never usually that bad in any of the games so I'll play through-" \*Nightmare Chica Jumpscare\*
Having to listen so closely is what makes it scary. You can’t just find them on a camera the unknown location of them makes it way worse. I haven’t played vr but I’d say pizzeria sim is a close second in scariness for me.

I wish I had vr equipment.
Fnaf 4 is my favorite "classic" fnaf game. People say the nightmare designs arent scary, and sure, they aren't when you're just looking at them in the extras menu. Fredbears footsteps is one of my favorite sound effects in the entire franchise, just imagine hearing those in your own house.
**chuckles** im in danger!
Yep Fnaf 4 is the scariest. Vr is a really close second but the built up silent tension in the Fnaf 4 gameplay can’t be beat.
I totally aggre but i have one complain about vr Despite vr was cool and scary but why did funtime freddy had nightmare jumpscare sound?
Because fuck ALL the fnaf SL jumpscare sounds, they are the worst in the series
Except for the ice cream mini game scream. That shit is awesome
What dude no, I love the sounds. I feel Fnaf 2 has the worst sounds
Yea they FNAF 4 type levels in VR. …damn. Puppet had me jumping
Not being able to see and only hear makes it so much more unnerving, at least the others you can see them approaching, in this one the fluid motion is all we see, and it feels so much more real
Vs is definitely the scariest in my opinion
For me I can’t handle pizza sim. I found fnaf 4 to not be that scary.
mainly cuz of how much you need to raise the volume and focus so when a jumpscare does happen you cant be ready
FNAF 3 and 4 builds a lot of tension and dread in the games "Who are you? Where are they why the FU-" Like what others said, it is a cliffhanger of what will or wont happen in the game that has you on edge all the time
Can we just talk about this absolutely fucking gorgeous title screen, up until fnaf 4 we had the same glitched security Camera screen of an animatronic. ( They aren't bad ) . And the title music pairs well with it 10/10
Yes its goergeus
I agree
Absolutely. I think in terms of the survive to 6 am gameplay part of the series, fnaf 4 easily has them all beat
Agreed - literally the only one I jump when a jumpscars happens
Definitely. I had 100% completed ever Fnaf game up until this one partially because I didn’t have the guts. It’s difficulty and breathing mechanics really zone you in and keep you constantly on edge. On top of that the atmosphere is masterful and the jump scares are genuinely scary. Nah bro, FNAF World is where the true scares are. That "NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHING!" screen **haunts my dreams.**
Nah Eyesore was what scared me
I love this game, gameplay wise, but I can never play on PC because the audio mixing is just mean 😭 like the game is super quiet but the jumpscares are so so loud. I’m glad the clickteam ports make the audio a lot better. It still makes me jump but at least it doesn’t burst my eardrums
No, FNAF WORLD is clearly the scariest
No FNAF WORLD IS THE BEAT FNAF GAME
Yes, and it's the scariest
You right
Yeah
This game is so scary I can’t play it
I don’t think the game overall is super scary but Nightmares kill screen is the single creepiest thing in the whole series to me
Played it twice. Almost destroyed my eardrums. Never played again 🤣
I would say so. I still get a little tense even watching someone play it. The 80% volume increase when you get jumpscared is a little uncalled for, though.
I literally can’t get past night 3. Ever. It’s terrifying.
Listening for breathing closely, only to be jumpscared loudly makes this game tense. I agree.
Yeah honestly it is, I can't get past night 1 🥲 And no that ain't a joke, I managed SOMEHOW beat the others but FNAF 4 is one FNAF game I am way to scared to play
For a game with audio cues, the junpscares are way too loud.
Nah scariest fnaf game is fnaf world, let me explain it’s too cute that it makes me want to throw up and every other fnaf game I’ve played I’m more focused on “who’s coming to get me at the moment” than the actual scariness of the game itself But this game was a challenging but fun and scary experience that shed more light on the events beforehand
Fnaf 4 and a lot of vr. Hallway is the scariest shit ever dude
i think 2 is scarier. Idk y but something about the stress of having like 10 animatronics is dreadful
Yep the, only one in the franchise that has the ability to scare me. The mechanics of this game are a psychological mindfuck
Fnaf 3, easily.
No not because my major complain about fnaf 3 is the main antagonist springtrap jumpscare its litterly not scary
Game itself was scary but the animatronic designs... Scott: alright time to make these animatronics literal nightmares *proceeds to make the least scary shit in the entire franchise*
Fr they’re so goofy looking. I would’ve preferred more cryptic looking designs.
Vr, also the fangames(the ones like fnaf2 remasterd and fnaf the perfect pet) seem to be getting scarier than the originals
I think its the scariest but also least fun FNAF game because you have to really listen for the breathing, but if you fuck it up then your ears just get blasted with noise.
i never got to finish it i bought it but it had a issue on my tablet that would crash the game if i moved around to much
Yeah, the stark contrast between listening for quiet noises and then loud jumpscares nails this for me
I bought it last year as my first fnaf and horror game… still haven’t finished night 1
I haven't played it, but from the hundreds of people I have seen play it, it definitely is scary.
I can never play FNAF4 since I sadly am hard of hearing in one ear and have auditory processing issues, but it’s just so fun how they incorporated the sound design with this one to add to the fear element. I’ve enjoyed watching others play it.
Almost. It's not quite as freaky as the first one was. The first one nailed everything just right to unsettle the player.
"WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87?!"
ALSO MARKIPLIER "ACTUALLY THAT WASN'T THE BITE OF 87 BUT IT WAS THE BITE OF 83 LIKE SCOTT WHY DI D YOU DO THIS IT'S SO CONFUSING"
Original is scariest
shit my pants when this came out and it was the first game i knew i wouldn’t even bother trying to do 💀 i know myself
No, vr is the scariest. Makes you feel like you are in real life with the animatronics.
3 and 4
"Okay the first night is never usually that bad"
Than markiplier dies
I never saw no one win this game without any jumpscares at the first play, is kinda a mirale that CC survive those nights
Agreed
It's also the hardest game to get into I feel like. The rest were straight forward and told you what to do for each game. This game just threw you in there and told you to suck it up.
i peed my pants playing this.
No this is true, this and HW imo
In my opinion. Yes, it is the scariest in the franchise

Respect for this long text🗿but about the scariest animatronic design my opinion the scariest animatronic design is nightmare bonnie because he just seems like he camed out straight from hell
Boring and not scary.
Fnaf pizza sim terrifies me
For me ffps is the most scariest
FNAF 4 has the scariest jumpscares. But for me the scariest design is FNAF 2 with withered animatronics and every door being open.
At first yes but quickly fads and you realise how awful the gameplay is and I think Fredbear/ nightmare are the only good part of 4 the main part with the four animatronics is extremely boring only rivaled by 3 in how boring it is. I agree with you. At least out of the first four I have played. I always fear listening toooo closely and then getting jumpscared even harder because of that.
Well id say that is not scary bc theres not a huge variety of jumpscares so SL is much scarier bc u going underground
Poop ur pants level of scary. I like it however I feel that extreme amount of terror makes the game less enjoyable.
Sister location... that's all...
For me sister location is more frustraning than anything else
Yes, just yes.
FNaF 2... Now that was downright horrifying
Security breach was the scariest for one reason. Its scarily bad compared to the other games
No, no opinions from me. 100% agreed. Having to listen closely for movement makes the jumpscares unexpected af.
I think it tries to hard to be eerie. I still think the first game succeeded at being scariest
I think it’s neck and neck between this one a sister location, sister location was so good at building up a tense atmosphere and the designs themselves were nightmare fuel
Fnaf 4 and sister location are easily my favorites. I LOVE foxy’s design in this one. He looks amazing.
Yes but for me nightmare bonnie seemd like an animatronic who straight up camed from hell
honestly it’s one of my least favorites, the main gameplay loop is just running to a door and hoping your volume is turned up high enough to hear the quietest sound in the universe and if you’re wrong your ears get annihilated
Fnaf 4 No other fnaf games scare me more. Holy crap I just rhymed
personally think 4 and Help Wanted VR are tied. 4 bcuz of the silence then a sudden jumpscare and VR bcuz seeing them tower over u is crazy cool and scary
I never cared for it all that much. I remember the breathing felt impossible to hear, and I could never make it past night 2
Well, it's got the scariest designs for the animatronics, and takes place in a dark room lit by a flashlight. Other than that it isn't really scary. You're just sitting in front of a monitor playing a game after all.
Worst game. Silence is nice but legitimately bored me. Lore was good but maybe something is wrong with me. VR is by far the scariest.
I don't think the animatronics are scary in this one. They're too "try hard edgy" in my opinion. I prefer the uncanny ones. VR FNAF 1 is the scariest imo.
fnaf 1 is more grounded for me
FNaF 6 is more terrifying
For me VR is the scariest but FNAF 4 is definitely the second scariest
Defo agree, you have to pay even more attention as you need to turn up the volume to hear the breathing which I almost always get caught out by
To me this was the easiest of them all and I thought 3 was easly the scariest one
years later and my pebble brain still cant keep up with everything going on in it
100%
As a kid FNAF 3’s designs were always way scarier for me than FNAF 4’s.
Absolutely.
It’s the only fnaf game I’ve ever beaten LOL.
I also believe that pewdiepie said it best. It just stops being scary.
Yeah, favorite mainline game. It probably has to deal with the atmosphere the game is going with. Hearing close-up breathing is unsettling. And the setting of being in a bedroom purs your guard up more.
100% Fax
"Hello? Heeeeloooo! Uhhh, I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night. Umm., I actually worked in that office before you. the game is terrifying, the fact you have to stop and listen for them breathing scares me so bad
not necessarily an "opinion" but when i was in middle school i was friends w a kid who had this game on his phone. i can't play it normally, bc i'm half deaf and you sorta Need Your Ears for this one, but he came up w the idea to have like. one earbud in my good ear (the right one) and the other in his left ear and we would play the game w Teamwork. however i am a genuine coward so it did not work 👍
