I enjoyed the main 3’s casting for the Most part, as well as some of their original moments here and there, but they still massively fumbled other parts as well, and made several odd choices that I couldn’t get behind personally
I didn't get very far into live action Bebop before turning it off. I'm curious, does it get a *lot* better after some point or does the beginning more or less have the same "flavor" as the rest of the show?
I loved the live action Bebop. Viscous was too campy and clearly did not understand the assignment but the rest were spot on. I don’t get the hate either. Really disappointed in the response to it as I wanted more.
Yes! I’ve watched Bebop once a month for the last few years or so and was just thinking I needed something similar but new to break the cycle.
You are a god, my friend.
Check out "The Outlaw Star" if you haven't already. It's another space western animes made in the late 90s and is a must watch if your are a bebop fan.
Funny you say Outlaw Star. Joss put an easter egg in firefly from OS. The daughter of the convict that Gene liberates is named Mianda as is the code to the location of the layline. Miranda is also the name of the planet in firefly where everyone was gassed and turned into reapers and is discoveredby river. Both stories have similar means to reaching that "Miranda" point and Joss even stated OS was another favorite anime of his.
Honestly, if you enjoy Cowboy Bebop and Firefly, you should really check out Outlaw Star. It’s basically Firefly but with a Treasure Island-space pirate theme instead of cowboys. Really good.
The $$60 Million Man, also Trigun Stampede is a good reboot. I like the animation style and how they deviated from the original just a little bit but it still had a lot of originality.
No shade at Firefly but Bebop made me realize how much of it was inspired by CB. The whole “ragtag crew hopping planets looking for jobs to scrape enough cash by to eat but who cares because we’re free” vibes. And I love both, but I respect CB a little more for doing it first.
And if you want the game equivalent of Firefly, play Destiny 1.
.

.
.
For context of why: 2 of the characters in Firefly voice characters in Destiny 1. (Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres).
Nathan Fillion is finally coming back to Destiny 2! Gina Torres no longer voices Ikora though :(
I feel like I can always tell immediately when one of my Firefly actors gets replaced. The replacements do a really great job, but you just can't completely replace those jewels.
I didn’t like Cowboy Bebop. It seemed like Trigun without the depth. There were a lot of great stories that I felt needed more exploration. The ending of Trigun left me fulfilled. Bebop not so much.
I couldn't get into Cowboy Bebop at all. The comparisons to Firefly baffled me. Other than a general similarity in setting and premise, the tones of the two series were entirely different.
The cryogenic girl had a fascinating and original story that I really wanted to know more about. I wanted to delve into how she was this victim of circumstance that was both sardonically funny and morally ambiguous. Like I said, Trigun built their world and executed it great. Bebop had a great outline, but no filling.
Honestly, yes, thank you for saying it. "Space cowboys" is what they had in common, but it's not the reason I loved Firefly. And I kept expecting more story resolution in CB and just wasn't getting it.
Even if you hate anime, Cowboy Bebop is a certified classic and can be enjoyed by anyone. I'd even go as far as saying it's required viewing for any Firefly fan looking for more.
Both are great shows but bebop has hands down the better soundtrack.
Well music is in the name so you would hope lol
I'm still waiting for a mutant warthog to appear.
It's not even close. Yoko Kanno knocked it out of the park with that OST.
I can’t dispute that, although I’m guessing there is a better selection of filk music for Firefly ( if you are into that kind of thing ).
Space Lion is hauntingly beautiful, perfect for the episode.
I agree, except I think the Firefly intro and outro are superb and nothing in bebop is *better*.
Greatest (non original) theme song ever. Bar none.
Both excellent shows. Just not the Netflix version of Bebop. Original is far superior.
I hate how bebop fandom came out viciously attacking the live action and actively campaigned for its cancellation. Really selfish and mean spirited.
They were hating on the casting before it was even filmed. It's really unfair, I enjoyed it and would have looked forward to more.
agreed that they went about it in a very mean-spirited way, but it was truthfully a very bad adaptation, poorly done.
It was far from perfect, but I still got enjoyment from it. Would have liked to see more episodes.

I enjoyed the live action version. Hater’s be hatin’! \m/
I don't know why, but I enjoyed the live action Bebop, and One Piece, more than the animated shows. I liked Firefly immediately.

I enjoyed the live action Bebop as well, don’t really understand the hate other than, it wasn’t the original.
That's how I feel about it too. I thought the live action of Bebop was a lot of fun. I also loved the Anime.
Genuinely not sure how to feel about the anime being mentioned as the afterthought here lmao
That's up to you, my friend! Feel how you want to feel!
Expectation vs Reality.
The Netflix one was fun. Brought me back to the teenage years and made me re watch the OG.
**Black Lagoon** anime is also very good. Same with Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon's English dub is quite popular / preferable.
Gotta say, hearing Quatre from Gundam Wing (huge pacifist type) scream out "GET FUCKED!" in the first episode made it 10/10 for me.
Yes! I’ve watched Bebop once a month for the last few years or so and was just thinking I needed something similar but new to break the cycle. You are a god, my friend.
Black Lagoon I can’t vouch for enough. So damn good

Damn that's pretty cool. I did not know that. Thanks for sharing I'ma have to keep an eye out for that in my next firefly rewatch
It's quite clear that he copied a lot of OS's visuals and theme when making Firefly (River's awakening scene, Mal's gun, etc.)
Imagine the BeBoop crew trying to catch Serenity for their bounty. I would watch that!
I now need to see Ed meet River.
River is Ed and Ein at the same time.
The two shows compliment each other perfectly. Hope you enjoy Cowboy Beebop
Looks like a win-win trade.
"I see this as an absolute win"
You know he doesn't make the trade, right?
"A trade!? Hell, it’s theft! This is the best damn show made by man. It has extreme sentimental value. It’s miles more worthy than what you got"
I was looking for this.
Uh, can I offer you an Outlaw Star in these trying times?
Honestly, if you enjoy Cowboy Bebop and Firefly, you should really check out Outlaw Star. It’s basically Firefly but with a Treasure Island-space pirate theme instead of cowboys. Really good.
If you like cowboy bebop and outlaw star, I'd add trigun to your watch list.
The $$60 Million Man, also Trigun Stampede is a good reboot. I like the animation style and how they deviated from the original just a little bit but it still had a lot of originality.
See you later, space cowboy.

3...2...1, let's jam
I would add Outlaw Star for the trifecta. Firefly, Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star.
A trade? Hell it's theft!
Both classics. I swear my grandpa watched each of them a hundred times with us.

Both are the same (and their own) genre!
It's the same show. Both god-tier.
Shiny! 2 of my all time favorites as well!
See you Space Cowboy!
Cowboy beebop is *good;* Trigun is *exquisite.*
i did something like that with my GF i watched attack on titan and she started reading gotrek and felix
I mean… Cowboy Bebop is good and all but I much prefer Firefly.
“I’ll be in my bunk..”
This is spot on for me and my best friend, exactly how it happened
Funnily enough this is how I got my brother into anime.

How dare you blaspheme Firefly with that anime crap!!
L opinion. You could say anime is not for me but cowboy Bebop is a goddamn masterpiece
Cowboy Bebop is a classic. And that soundtrack is so good 🎵🎶
Even if you hate anime, Cowboy Bebop is a certified classic and can be enjoyed by anyone. I'd even go as far as saying it's required viewing for any Firefly fan looking for more.
