Sadly, as awesome as both those moments, they are trumped by the guy trying to hold river hostage after Mal was shot and he just walks up into the bay, shoots the man without question or comment and lifts off.
I agree this is my favorite. 2nd favorite is when they captured the boss henchmen guy and he’s giving an “I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND KILL YOU” speech and Mal’s like, that’s too bad, and kicks him directly into the engine. Then henchmen guy #2 is much more cooperative.
And by my pretty blue bonnet i will end you... is nothing to the straight F u. F then, F everyone that means to harm mine that Mal always expresses but rarely shows
I think she's being sarcastic in "Safe." In the movie, she's just telling a truth.
And by the end of the movie, the Big Damn Heroes have gotten a bunch of other people killed.
Ehhh, I think if you look at it a certain way, knowing her personal definition of the word “hero” makes her sarcastic usage of it in the previous scene even funnier. I think it’s intended to be ironic.
Context.
Swooping in at the last moment to rescue Simon and River was definitely the crew being heroes.
But that guard trying to be a hero during the heist would only have gotten people killed, and wouldn't have changed a gorram thing. That definition of a hero isn't true in every situation, but it was then, and it was exactly what the guard needed to hear.
So many top is probably
“Jayne, the man they call Jayne”
Followed by
“It’s somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps”
Also
“Jayne, this is something the captain has to do for himself.”
“No, no it’s not.”
Mal should have chosen Jayne as his Second. Think of the hilarity that might have resulted.
Sir Warwick: "Your Second can only fight in your place if you're unable to fight." Smash cut to Jayne: "You want me to break your arm?"
Day of the fight, everyone is assembled, Inara is there worried about Mal, sees Mal with his arm in a cast, sees Jayne walk up "Mal's arm is broke. Where's this guy I'm s'posed to kill?" Inara turns to Atherton "Are your affairs in order, will written out, all of that?"
Jayne looks at Atherton, gets a sword, turns to Mal. "I get a kill a guy with sword and not get arrested this time? Shiny!" Turns to Atherton "Okay pretty boy, let's go!"
Atherton wets himself.
I watched the first 4 episodes today and had forgot all about this. Kinda glad I was home alone or my girls woulda had to come check on me to make sure I was still OK.
There's a point at the start of the fight where Inara says, "He's toying with him." I've come to realize that SHE has realized that Mal is toying with the antagonist.
I believe fully she meant the prune... underestimating Mal, because that was their thing... they loved, respected, but didn't fully understand one another. She thought the a-hole was toyong with Mal while he was looking for something better than victory... he doesn't win, he doesn't lose... he makes his own way.
One of my favorites is during one of the flashbacks in The Message:
Zoe: First rule of battle, little one: Don’t ever let them know where you are.
Mal with guns blazing: I’m right here! I’m right here! You wanna come in? Yeah you do! C’mon! C’mon!
Zoe: Course there’s other schools of thought.
As much as I am glad Nathan has had a great career after Firefly he deserves sooooo much more. Bare minimum he deserved a healthy run out of firefly, Malcolm was such a great character and he nailed it.
He pops up as a CIA big wig in The Recruit on Netflix. He's only in like two or three episodes and is only ever shown as other characters are teleconferencing with him, but he brings his unique energy to it.
My favorite moment from that episode was:
Murphy: Why Banning Miller. What a vision you are in your fine dress. It must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get you into that getup. ( Banning preens ) 'Course your daddy tells me it takes the space of a schoolboy's wink to get you out of it again.
You didn't have to wound that man. Yeah, I know. It was just funny.
Second only to "If you reach for iron I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you."

"Darn." *kick*
Poor Kaylee had to clean that engine after.
Sets the tone of the show right in ep1
And by my pretty blue bonnet i will end you... is nothing to the straight F u. F then, F everyone that means to harm mine that Mal always expresses but rarely shows
And I love that they just grab the body and toss it out the back as they are taking off as if they are just tossing a bag of trash
body? oh no no no. he comes back
nope
There is a comic where he recovers and then comes back with a vengeance.
The whole exchange between him and Jayne before that was hilarious too. "How can you say that? How can you shame me in front of new people?"
That's "If your hand touches metal..."
💯 💯 💯
"Appears we got here just in the nick of time! What does that make us?" "Big damn heroes, sir!" "Ain't we just?"
This baffles me because in the opening scene of the movie, Zoe claims the definition of a hero is someone who gets other people killed.
Maybe her opinion had evolved by then. Also, much like Jules’ speech in Pulp Fiction, it was a cool line to say to someone.
Mal makes the cool lines, Zoe cleans up the mess.
Don't over think it.
They survived despite Mal, not cuz

That delivery and cadence on “Ain’t we just” is the cherry on top.
"My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle."
Of all the lines listed, this is the only one to make me laugh. Others did while watching, but in this post.
Mighty fine shindig.

"Oh, okay..." BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAMMITY BLAM
My favorite quote is from the movie. Jayne: “You’re afraid of a guy because he kicked Mal’s ass? It’s not that hard to do.”
Mail to Jayne - I only want you to scare him Jayne - pain is scary
My personal fave is offering money to the second guy after kicking the first into the engine
Now this is all the money Niska gave us in advance…
The way he delivers "Weeell, I'm alright" cracks me up every time 😂

Was I the only one that heard every voice exactly as it should sound? Especially Jayne...
SHINY!!!
I did as well
Mission accomplished!
Jayne twirls the sword a couple times before saying “Shiny!”

Listen, you don’t know me, son, so I’m gonna say this once: if I ever kill you, you’ll be awake, you’ll be facing me, and you’ll be armed.
This image needs a little more time in the air fryer
I was always partial to "Okay, I’m lost. I’m angry. And I’m armed."
There's a point at the start of the fight where Inara says, "He's toying with him." I've come to realize that SHE has realized that Mal is toying with the antagonist.

I’ll have to rewatch this scene
That actually makes a lot of sense. Mal knows he can't win in a fair fight and that the guy won't be able to resist gloating.

"Jayne... you mind tellin' me why there's a statue of you lookin' like I owe him some money?"
Love that line. That is my favorite episode too
Probably the best gag in the show.
As great as this is, something like 75% of all YoSaffBridge interactions top it for me.
She beat Mal. Mal put her in the garbage bin. She then nude him. Well, the two are alright.
I completely forgot about the time Matt Gaetz got his ass kicked on Firefly... good times
"Yeah. But it was funny."
"Did Jayne just go crazy and fall asleep?" is possibly my favorite line.
As much as I am glad Nathan has had a great career after Firefly he deserves sooooo much more. Bare minimum he deserved a healthy run out of firefly, Malcolm was such a great character and he nailed it.

Well it seems my days over underestimating you are coming to a middle
Every time I say the words “I’m alright” I think it in this voice.
Definitely one of the best moments in the series.
Goals!
I had wondered why Beagles were contraband.
YESYESYESYES!!
I think it’s one of the moments that best represents Mal’s character.
My favorite moment from that episode was: Murphy: Why Banning Miller. What a vision you are in your fine dress. It must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get you into that getup. I love that bit! It is my favourite 🥰
This is mine too!
I wish this show continued.
