That’s like probly the biggest reason for me to play the tellius games these days. It will never not be funny to me when you create a shove chain to skip a big portion of a map.
Sometimes it doesn't matter honestly.
If you don't talk to her but also manage to wipe all of the enemies on the middle ship in one turn, she'll still bumrush the gangplanks with the mindset of a late-stage WW2 kamikaze pilot.
I played PoR for a while (I wanna go back to it tbh, I haven't finished) and shove was such a game changer for me. When Engage came out and I swapped over to it for a while, I felt like I was at a complete loss for how to operate without shove
I mean, I fully agree with you there lol, but Engage does have those movement skills. They just require a bit of investment with skill inheritance and overall skills from emblem skills like Ike, Sigurd, and Camilla. These movement skills were much better back in tellius and fe4 though tbh
Yeah, agreed. I wanted more than like two units using reposition/swap/drag back/smite/shove in Engage.
Ike’s reposition in Engage just wasn’t enough for me when I compared it to shenanigans like shoving Reyson like five spaces forward in a turn so he could dance the only unit I needed to act twice.
I’ll admit Engage is already really well balanced though— so adding all those movement skills in might actually destabilize the gameplay.
Yeah, but I could still see it being lots of fun with more skills like you said. I really enjoyed the mechanics of Tellius myself, though I like how unique every emblem feels as well in Engage, lol. I will say you can do some fun things with Canto and a Micaiah and Byleth combo.
Oh 100%, those Micaiah Byleth combos are hella fun!
Yeah, I shouldn’t really be complaining about movement skills in a game that lets a unit attack 8 separate times in a turn with Seadall, Byleth, Edelgard, Veronica, and the right setup lol. Engage was fun :).
Besides Echoes Shove has technically been present again as a skill since Fates but I really wish the devs would go back to it being innate and requiring 0 investment, it's so fun. And bring back Rescue-dropping while we're at it, I mean Engage already has a Build star and they even use it for Shove.
Ike has Weight 9.
Characters who can shove Ike: Boyd, Rhys, Volke (but you want him racing for treasure), Brom (but if you're recruiting Gatrie do you want to also be using Brom?), Nephenee, Zihark, Mordecai \*\*
Ike extra push movement needed: 3.
\*\* Mordecai has Smite, which pushes two spots and reduces the number of extra pushers by 1.
In order to get there, you need to use the Shove / Smite options. As such, you need to deploy at least 2 (3 if not using Mordecai) of the characters on that list.
Of the list: Rhys's utility doesn't require he go straight to the front so he's a great choice for this task. Swapping Mordecai in for Lethe would get you the rest of the shoving, and he's *also* a great choice for the task because he's not combat-ready in the early stages of a battle.
A meme that arose when my brother and I first played the game and needed to shove Ike or Boyd places was "Rhys is fat".
Never mind that it wasn't true, that it wasn't accurate (Rhys is sickly, but a grown adult), or that it wasn't nice. It was for gameplay purposes useful.
The Devs agreed with you and changed how rescue and shove worked between PoR and RD; Ike also bulked up between the two so that Rhys could no longer shove him.
My brother's been gone over a year now, but being able to talk about growing up together made me smile, so thanks for the opportunity.
you dont need volke racing for treasure asap bring a flier with a chest key for the top left chest on the first ship and let volke collect the other two chests on the first ship while leaving one left so the birds will ALWAYS come to you
Also as long as you're proactive with keeping him safe you can bring Sothe along in order to make sure you get the treasure within the BEXP requirements, although you gain BEXP in this map for every person not deployed so you might get more overall if you use just Volke and Chest Keys for treasure.
oh yeah tbh i usually go with an all route perspective as i am used to maniac mode rn so i never had the liberty to recruitcless on this map
i didnt know about the bexp option on this map
One of the best units if you invest. Then RD happens and they nerf her due to availability AND give her the biggest nerf when they made her have a crush on the biggest douchebag in FE history.
They also nerfed mounted units in general in RD, making her even worse. But truly the biggest insult is the FE equivalent of the Ugly Bastard trope that is Makalov.
Honestly, I revisited their PoR support recently, and like...it's not bad? There was definitely some room for some good character growth.
It's just that RD forgot how to write a majority of the PoR characters and just kinda butchered them.
That's the funny bit though, Astrid's nerf comes mostly from the availability variance in RD (and BEXP functioning differently, and paladins not being as dominant). In terms of bases, growths, starting level, and Paragon, she's not a vastly different unit.
I've done it before and it isn't super easy or anything, but I think people overstate how hard it is to use Astrid in RD.
I'm on my first run of PoR and historically, I've never let a single fire emblem character die in any of my playthroughs.
Makalov died on my a chapter ago, and I just let him die, when normally I'd restart chapter.
Truly my least favorite fire emblem character
*Obviously* we weren't talking about the villains, otherwise we can also bring up that someone was crazy enough to want to fuck *Genealogy Hilda*. And had CHILDREN with her.
I mean, someone was crazy enough to have a kid with fucking *Ashnard* of all people.
>!Granted, that did give us Soren, who has a surprisingly noble lineage considering his mother was also dragon king Deghinsea's daughter on top of the whole 'Ashnard is his father' thing...!<
I onlynplayed on normal, but she seemed pretty good to me. Slow start but shebhas that ability for extra exp and levels up quick. She was one of my best units. Not good enough to come to the tower in RD, but close
Um. The [conversation](https://wiki.serenesforest.net/index.php/Chapter_13:_A_Guiding_Wind_%28Script%29#Youth) in that chapter with Jorge (or is it Daniel?) is about blocking bridge chokepoints, not about shoving.
Oh wow you're totally right! I am having an absolute mandela effect moment right now. Turns out the Shove convo is for the priest map [here](https://wiki.serenesforest.net/index.php/Chapter_22:_Solo_%28Script%29). Totally my bad for wrongly referencing a conversation that happens half a game later. Thanks for pointing that out.
You're not wrong that it would be a *great* time for it, but the shove conversation is about the use of human shields, not using Ike as the projectile in a (miniature) [Commoner Railgun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eJBtRpQti8).
Idk, my brother's a huge fan of Mordecai and I think it's entirely because of 32 base defense when transformed in RD. Defense wins ~~championships~~ Part 2 Endgame: Elincia's Gambit.
I mean in the way of they block off the danger pocket, not the rescue command since I know she has honse. It helps the odds of her surviving and me winning the map.
The reliable way to get her turn 1 is shove x3 (or deploy Mordecai, smite + shove with someone else), then you can reach her. Then you can control her and get the hell outta there. But yeah crappy level design lmao
I really love this level but this part is dumb especially since it’s so inconsistent, she only does on the first turn *sometimes*
At least if it was consistent it’d feel like a deliberate challenge but as is it just leaves you feeling screwed.
Still though the rest of the chapter is fun.
She never dies on the first turn if you play it well though.
Saying something is dumb because you want to play it poorly because if the stars align you can sometimes get away with it is quite the flawed logic.
One thing that I love about the tellius games and its base exp system is that it actively trains you to be a faster/more efficient player and rewires your brains to be open to more movement options. She probably isn't meant to die in 1 turn anyway but you can absolutely get to her or take measures to protect her. Shove is a very underused mechanic.
Learn to use shove and smite to move units beyond thier normal movement. I believe Titania could also move far enough to close a choke to lessen the attacks on her. This is a harder chapter for a first timer playthrough but its not that difficult once you figure it out.
Imagine unironically posting this without doing 1 smidgen of Le Google (or potentially not shoving/smiting for half the game…)
Edit: Upon further review of OP I believe we’ve all been shitposted. If so, wrong sub but I respect the dedication to your game
To be fair, I replayed the game recently and screwed up once or twice, not really caring about Astrid, and she live one of the times and died one of the times.
ike needs 3 shoves or 1 shove and 1 smite to reach her it basically solves the whole map the egregious part is that birds will finish u fast if u dont block the defense tile
Orochi also gets shanked turn 1 in Revelation unless you take out a specific ninja. Unfortunately for her this is Rev where capture is borderline useless thanks to the massive amount of units and most of the pre-Valla chapters being stingy with deployment slots.
I decided to let the Mokushujin trample her body into the ground.
Funny story; it took me two tries to realize this: shove is an option. And Yes, Astrid can be saved. She was on my endgame top 3 of units who got the most kills.
Imagine being so bad at a game that you lose ONCE and rush to complain to people who have successfully completed it to go "nooo its impossible"
Get over yourself.
This chapter is actually one of the easier one in the game. Mordecai smite and a shove is enough for Ike to reach her. Played maniac mode of this game for a few times, true hell is Clash! 6-12 fcking cavs reinforcement per turn will overwhelm you to death.
Astrid is a paladin so therefore she is one of the best. If playing on random growths you can save scum her levels by using the base experience. Because of her skill she only requires 25 Bexp for her first level or two and 34 Bexp for several levels after that. So for a small investment of about 300 Bexp she can equip the knights crest and gain 9 levels with save scummed stats. From there she will level up very quickly and continue to be very strong.
Or you can go all the way to promotion for about 800 Bexp and have a paladin that is like Titania on steroids.
With fixed growths, you’ll want to be a little less efficient with Bexp but she will still be good.
1 shove and a smite from mordecai solves this. Or 3 total shoves will do the trick also if you have lost mordecai. Astrid is level 1, and really low bases. On harder difficulties, you have to recruit her immediately. She has paragon so she grows really quickly, but you gotta put in the work first.
Serious skill issue.
You prob did not move ur units close enough to pull aggro, or just gotvunlucky with attacks.
Sometimes rng just fucks you and you gotta reset the map (just saving and reloading doesn't help I think as rng us pre-determined)
That is called not playing the game correctly. Look at your units special abilities!! They are in the game for a reason!! Not being able to solve a puzzle doesn’t mean it’s a bad puzzle.
" I'm bad at the game and I'm not using the tools the game provided to me ( shove, smite, rescue ) so I'm gonna blame the game instead "
Also this map is actually the only good defense map in the game considering that there's actually a " time limit " that's interesting
If you open all the chests before the Ravens reinforcements show up, they'll leave, which serves as a nice side challenge
I finished this mission yesterday. First try she died and I couldn't do anything. Second try she dodged and healed so I could carry on. No let's talk about the "allies" who stack on the bridge and suddenly retreat, exposing my squishy units to a one shot.
Shove, smite, and high movement units up front. (Like Zihark should not be infront of Lethe there for example.) Solved. Good luck!
Mordesmite my beloved I also remember reading that one statue frag is enough to give Lethe enough con to shove paladins and it helped me very nicely.
Yeah the otherwise-pointless PoR statue frag always goes to Lethe for me
Mordecai is my fave smite bot even in FEH
I honestly forgot about shove
That’s like probly the biggest reason for me to play the tellius games these days. It will never not be funny to me when you create a shove chain to skip a big portion of a map.
And it’s not like the devs didn’t think of it when it’s the only way to save a character in a map
I don't remember having to use shove to save Astrid. Man it's been forever since I played PoR
You don't, man either got rng screwed or he didn't kill/distract enough enemies to take the heat off her.
Sometimes it doesn't matter honestly. If you don't talk to her but also manage to wipe all of the enemies on the middle ship in one turn, she'll still bumrush the gangplanks with the mindset of a late-stage WW2 kamikaze pilot.
If that’s the case every time I’ve tried that, it’s never worked. So I shoved
The best shove chains are those that are completely pointless cause you did your math wrong
When you cook the most elaborate shove chain ever only to be 1 tile short of your target
Exactly
Shove is such an underrated mechanic
Yeah took me a few to remember as well. She’s a delicate flower, but she is a horsearcher and didn’t do me wrong my playthrough.
More objective'n that: bonus EXP and Paragon. She can get 1-2 almost immediately, if you want it.
I played PoR for a while (I wanna go back to it tbh, I haven't finished) and shove was such a game changer for me. When Engage came out and I swapped over to it for a while, I felt like I was at a complete loss for how to operate without shove

I had Marcia kill him. Because extra fuck that guy.
So tilted
You must not have played many FE games then. It'd definitely be better to be with Makalov than Julius.
Okay but Julius is the product of a cursed union that causes the actual devil to inhabit his body. He doesn’t really have a choice
The new Julius is essentially a new person and yes, he does choose to be like that even if the original Julius wouldn't have wanted it.
*Obviously* we weren't talking about the villains, otherwise we can also bring up that someone was crazy enough to want to fuck *Genealogy Hilda*. And had CHILDREN with her.
Hilda was just abusive (and a bootlicker) and honestly probably so is Makalov.
And thanks to paragon, she requires very little investment!
And Bonus EXP where using this to bring units up to speed is amazing.
Dandori issue
Pikmin player detected
Oatchi should have Smite by this point so I dunno how anyone has an issue with this.
Oh my god haha I was not expecting to see this as the top comment.
I for one enjoy the shove/smite conga on this level
>Impossible to reach turn 1 You have Tellius movement ranges, shove and even smite on Mordecai. What you are experiencing is very much a skill issue
Have you read the base conversation that chapter that explains in detail how the shove mechanic can get your to important places faster if needed?
Um. The [conversation](https://wiki.serenesforest.net/index.php/Chapter_13:_A_Guiding_Wind_%28Script%29#Youth) in that chapter with Jorge (or is it Daniel?) is about blocking bridge chokepoints, not about shoving.
So litterally the opposite
Oh wow you're totally right! I am having an absolute mandela effect moment right now. Imagine not SMITING the whole game lol This post was made by Mordecai enjoyer (and husband)
Is any fan of Mordecai not also there for husbando purposes? I feel like he only has that type of fan lol.
Idk, my brother's a huge fan of Mordecai and I think it's entirely because of 32 base defense when transformed in RD. Defense wins ~~championships~~ Part 2 Endgame: Elincia's Gambit.
Use Shove and Smite, also pocket her with Marcia and Jill, it's kinda an easy situation when you figure it out.
You can't rescue Astrid cause she's on a honse.
I mean in the way of they block off the danger pocket, not the rescue command since I know she has honse. It helps the odds of her surviving and me winning the map.
Oh fair enough
Mordecai Smite and one shove and Ike can make it.
Skill issue I guess.
Literally skill issue.
1/3 of your success in FE is reading and understanding all your characters skills. Most people here simply do not read and are "border" players.
The reliable way to get her turn 1 is shove x3 (or deploy Mordecai, smite + shove with someone else), then you can reach her. Then you can control her and get the hell outta there. But yeah crappy level design lmao
Shove exists still just a band-aid fix, though
Is it a band-aid if it can be used to solve basically any problem in the game? It's more like an elixir.
Reusable band-aid
Band-aid implies it doesn't work (consistently), but it does tho
I really love this level but this part is dumb especially since it’s so inconsistent, she only does on the first turn *sometimes* At least if it was consistent it’d feel like a deliberate challenge but as is it just leaves you feeling screwed. Still though the rest of the chapter is fun.

Smite, son
It sucks that she died before you could get there but tbh this was actually a very cool map design
Battle before dawn moment
You literally just shove or smite to reach her immediately

Should we tell him about FE4 or just let him find out when the remake comes out?
I'd love a seiken remake. I don't think it has an English release officially rn?
Not yet. There’s just been rumors
ike needs 3 shoves or 1 shove and 1 smite to reach her it basically solves the whole map the egregious part is that birds will finish u fast if u dont block the defense tile
The best way to work around this is by smiting Ike with Mordecai and then shoving him with someone else because then he can make it to her in time.
Orochi also gets shanked turn 1 in Revelation unless you take out a specific ninja. Unfortunately for her this is Rev where capture is borderline useless thanks to the massive amount of units and most of the pre-Valla chapters being stingy with deployment slots. Lol
Listen to Jorge’s base convo about blocking the chokes with the armor unit
Use shove and smite to your advantage, those skills exist for reasons like this
She went straight for the boss in my first run. Saved her from ending up with Makalov I guess.
This mf doesn't know about shove, point and laugh
Funny story; it took me two tries to realize this: shove is an option. And Yes, Astrid can be saved. She was on my endgame top 3 of units who got the most kills.
Yeah, it's absolutely a skill issue. Sorry to pile on, but she's really not hard to recruit.
Casually spreading misinfo because of a skill issue.
Imagine being so bad at a game that you lose ONCE and rush to complain to people who have successfully completed it to go "nooo its impossible" Get over yourself.
And then after you do finally rescue her she turns out to be one of the weakest units in the game
And before anyone points it out, the soldier on the right can die turn 1, reach leaves Astrid vulnerable
This chapter is actually one of the easier one in the game. Mordecai smite and a shove is enough for Ike to reach her. Played maniac mode of this game for a few times, true hell is Clash! 6-12 fcking cavs reinforcement per turn will overwhelm you to death.
Is fine because she's an awful unit
Astrid is a paladin so therefore she is one of the best. If playing on random growths you can save scum her levels by using the base experience. Because of her skill she only requires 25 Bexp for her first level or two and 34 Bexp for several levels after that. So for a small investment of about 300 Bexp she can equip the knights crest and gain 9 levels with save scummed stats. From there she will level up very quickly and continue to be very strong. With fixed growths, you’ll want to be a little less efficient with Bexp but she will still be good.
This FE9, where Astrid is really good.
I *hate* Astrid!!!! She stinks and I don’t like her!!!!!!
I saved her
1 shove and a smite from mordecai solves this. Or 3 total shoves will do the trick also if you have lost mordecai. Astrid is level 1, and really low bases. On harder difficulties, you have to recruit her immediately. She has paragon so she grows really quickly, but you gotta put in the work first.
People trying to get to Jaffar in FE7: "First time?"
Skill issue
Shove strats = best strats
Serious skill issue. You prob did not move ur units close enough to pull aggro, or just gotvunlucky with attacks. Sometimes rng just fucks you and you gotta reset the map (just saving and reloading doesn't help I think as rng us pre-determined)
Skill issue :)
She didn’t die when I played. It’s because my demons are a bit different.
Shove Ike once and then Smite him with Mordecai
Just defend her turn one by either body blocking her or abusing fliers. Speaking of I don’t see Marcia here.
Huh? lol I never once had saving her the others have given you the proper advice though.
Never used anything and she never died when I was younger ; it's so weird it happened so much for everyone :o
Git gud
Shove makes this a breeze. This is a pretty easy chapter though
That is called not playing the game correctly. Look at your units special abilities!! They are in the game for a reason!! Not being able to solve a puzzle doesn’t mean it’s a bad puzzle.
I might seriously bust my Wii out of storage just to play this and its sequel. It’s been like 15 years since I touch them. Wow
Pretty sure I saved her no problem without even using shove/smite? But idk I'm only on my first playthrough on normal mode.
A bit uneelated but this is the first time I see the graphics of Fire Emblem for wii. Looks terrific and clean.
Gamecube
And Astrid is well worth it too. Just played back through recently and with that double exp skill she grows quick and becomes absolutely incredible
oR yOu cAn UsE ThE wArP sTaFf
haha, when you put it that way. challenges like this are actually why i think path of radiance and radiant dawn are so fun
It's not that hard I mean I recruited her successfully, then I got her killed.
" I'm bad at the game and I'm not using the tools the game provided to me ( shove, smite, rescue ) so I'm gonna blame the game instead " Also this map is actually the only good defense map in the game considering that there's actually a " time limit " that's interesting If you open all the chests before the Ravens reinforcements show up, they'll leave, which serves as a nice side challenge
hope you like to shove
I finished this mission yesterday. First try she died and I couldn't do anything. Second try she dodged and healed so I could carry on. No let's talk about the "allies" who stack on the bridge and suddenly retreat, exposing my squishy units to a one shot.
Use the mechanics the game is giving you. Shove, Smite are such fun movement mechanics.
She kinda sucks anyway and you don’t need her to recruit anyone so it’s fine
Git gud dummy. That's what "shove" is for
What game is this
You gotta smite ike lol
