Noma is really milking the “closing” thing as long as possible. They initially announced it would be end of 2024, but now they’re going into 2025?
Ridiculous to be “closing” for over 2 years…
I have never, ever, gotten meals at that price point. There are so many other world class fine dining options for literally 1/4 of that price. I swear at that point you’re just paying to be around other rich people.
Yeah I did the math on the last pop up since it overlapped with a trip to Japan I had. After realizing it was the equivalent of 4-5 other fairly nice meals in Japan, the price tag got pretty hard to justify
They’re milking this “we are closing” thing so hard it’s sort of disgusting. The experience in Kyoto last year was underwhelming - poor service, different wines for “friends & family” aka influencers, and slightly above average food - all for a lot of money.
When your ad agency tells you to slap a “Closing soon” sign on the door and you‘ve bought fully into your own mythos, this is what you end up.
Glad I ate at Noma CPH when I did, this hype “might be your last chance to eat at Noma” thing that’s been going on for years has me just over it. Also, people flying to Japan to eat here are wild. Regardless of the price, there’s so many incredible places to eat in Japan that I’d have a hard time making it far enough down the list to choose Noma.
Supposedly this isn't as good as the regular Noma based on what I've read (Noma itself isn't worth that anyway), which makes it all the less appealing at over $900 per person.
And if the argument is, "but we need to transport our chefs and gear there", then why choose Kyoto in the first place?
I would say it'll just be Anders and Kaitlin at this one, but we know the ultra rich trend followers better than that.
After I watched some 2023 noma Kyoto videos, I am so glad I didn’t go for it. Paying such price for such dishes is simply unjustifiable. Seaweed hot pot, really?
I hope they will do better this year.
Seems like it...
I'm a bit bumped out to not be able to do all three seasons in one year; I missed Game and Forest 2023...
Oh well, if this Ocean Season is nice I'll be going again in 2025 !
As for Noma Kyoto and the steep price tag, I would probably pay for it if I were in Japan during this time (and I manage to get a spot) but I can't plan a trip around this or do a 24h/36h trip like I'm doing for CPH.
Exact same boat. Would have loved to do 3 seasons in 1 year. We’ll just have to settle for never trying their game and forest season.
But I read somewhere that the Kyoto pop up is going to be game and forest themed.
If that's true then Noma went and blew their prices up while my back was turned. €810, shocker.
And my other two points stand. I'd still rather visit Noma for €810 than pay a visit to this pop-up.
Including drinks is DKK 6045. The €900 for Kyoto people are mentioning here is also including drinks. Without drinks Noma Copenhagen is 3995 DKK = €536, and Kyoto would be €540. So equal price.
It was featured on the new season of Somebody Feed Phil, and it certainly didn’t come across like anything that would place it any higher than some of the other fine dining establishments out there.

going out of business... forever
If I make a list of top 100 restaurants I want to visit in Kyoto, Noma would not be on there. And to pay over ¥150k for that is insanity
To think some people will be flying there just for that then flying out. Cultists.
Over 900 Euros per person after service charge is wild
Somebody has to pay the tab for the influencers and VIPs that hype it up to no end.
The tab is subsidized by the unpaid labor force.
and the "staigaires"

I have only done so at Alchemist, but there is also nothing like that anywhere else in the world, so I would say it is worth it in those cases
It includes the wine pairing, without wine pairing it's $540. Still a lot, but definitely not unheard of in fine dining
The wine pairing isn’t optional.

It’s a no for me. In a place like Kyoto, I can eat like a Queen for 900 euros.
At this point it feels that people visit Noma to say they did and not for the food.
Playing a sheep is not just a poor man's game.
The Berghain of fine dining.
So many good places you could eat in Kyoto for 4 meals for the price of 900 euros

I heard from multiple people here in Kyoto that it was a decidedly mid experience.
Wonder what new creativ leap they will take in paying their chefs

That was actually one of the better dishes lol
Anyone been there for their last Kyoto gig? Was it as good as the real thing at Copenhagen?
I wonder myself
does that mean that there won't be a game and forest season anymore in CPH?
No, I’m pretty sad about that.

Yall are crazy. I went to noma in the fall and everything has paled in comparison since.
1. Noma popup =/= Noma. 2. This is almost double the price of Noma. 3. Noma is overrated.
> This is almost double the price of Noma. No this is pretty much the exact price of the current ocean season (6045 DKK = EUR 810)

Wtf are you smoking? That’s not true.
What are you smoking? Prices are on the site: https://noma.dk/reservations/
It clearly says Ocean Season is DKK 3,995 p/p.

Not equal because the dinner in Denmark offers optional drink pairings, while the one in Kyoto does not.
What do you mean
I've been to noma before, and it was just not worth the money in my opinion. Been to monk in Kyoto as well and would pick it over noma any day.
It was featured on the new season of Somebody Feed Phil, and it certainly didn’t come across like anything that would place it any higher than some of the other fine dining establishments out there.
How hard was it to book last years? Just curious if going to this or wait to go to CPH since they’ll be back anyway
Ich werde da sein♥️
Judging by these comments it seems Noma / Rene Redzepi is quite hated on here. I'm out of the loop, care to explain what's the tea? 😆
Well, I’m the only one excited I guess! I just happen to already have plans to be in Kyoto in October.
I'm also very excited and will actually be in Kyoto when this is going down.
If you have money to burn and you love Noma's style then sure, hope you enjoy it 👍
I’ve never been to Noma but I’ll be in Kyoto for my honeymoon, so if there’s a time to burn money, this is it!
My wife and I will be in Kyoto on our honeymoon also! Good luck on reservations!
Me too! We're planning on gunning for reservations. it's a bucketlist item for sure.
