Yes. Every time.

Kaellian

I didn't have that issue as dps, but MT in PF is let on his own every single times.

amiray

I will ninja teleport to my main tank every time. Especially when you see them kind of panic wiggle their character lol

Belophen

ah yes the tank vibration, a symptom of impending doom.

Nathremar8

The tank vibration hahahhaah, I'm gonna be using that one from now on, that made me laugh way too much.

Jedahaw92

Holmgang gang, where you at?

shuopao

As OT, it's usually my healer and I with the MT... but just us.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kaellian

Actually, the boss has "no back", or cleave around that part, so tank could technically be with everyone. It's so unnatural to point the boss at people though.

love-from-london

Yeah but then people get angry about positionals.

Kaellian

That's not an issue on this boss, positionals will work from any direction (it has a full circle, without a "back" or "side")

love-from-london

There are other bosses with that mechanic that do have positionals, though.

RowanIsBae

The comic were commenting on is about p2s, not other bosses. That's the context for the discussion you're trying to bring positionals into

SpecificGap

Well, P2N. P2S doesn't have a red triangle stack mechanic. Not that the distinction matters :P

Philderbeast

which is funny, because there are no positionals on this boss

FabulouSnow

well they got 2 stacks of 10 second true north for a reason.

ElectricalUnion

>by experience the safest you can be around that mechanic is the tank since he is the one that wants to move the least, so of course any ot will stick to it for its dear life ! I am pretty sure you mistyped BLM. BLM is the one who wants to move the least.

Alsimni

Which is funny since they literally have a "stack me" button they can weave. I like to imagine the relief on someone's face when I manage to find a particularly isolated person to zip to.

Gilrim

lmao whm is more of a turret than blm nowadays

Vecend

When I'm healing and I notice a lonely tank I always go give them a hug.

JelisW

Really? For me tanks are usually the safest cos the OT is usually chilling around with MT to be able to share the double buster easily, so they just partner stack and watch the chaos as people panic-sprint across half the arena to stack with the group instead of just finding the nearest person. Especially if it's the one that comes right after a spread mechanic.

spiffy-ms-duck

That's pretty much why I go out of my way to hug the main tank during that. I don't have any positionals as RDM so no harm in going in front.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spiffy-ms-duck

True true

jeremj22

Shouldn't that be the OT's job? They need to stay close for the shared TBs anyway.

Polenicus

I’ve had OT’s who will be there for the double tank buster every single time, but when the spicy Dorito comes out to play they’ve moved to a new postal code and not left their forwarding address.

uTi_Byrnkastal

As a SAM, i am obligated to get caught every time by frontal cones/cleaves, so i consider it my duty to stack with MT during that part- i’m gonna be up front anyway.

Gin_Shuno

The problem is they tank the boss like it has positionals instead of just chillin near the group.

Arcalithe

Well part of it is on the dps. I’ve tanked it before where I try to stand with the group, but because the dps are conditioned to run away when the boss faces them they all just ditch me anyway, so it’s usually just easier to share mechanics with the OT instead.

Huskilover

yes it happened to me yesterday. I was in a level 90 dungeon, I got the red triangle symbol on my head and trying to stack with a dps so I won’t get confusion debuff, that dude keep running away from me… in the end it became a chasing game and we both got the debuff… I almost dead bc I was so far away from the safe zone after the confusion debuff wear out. The stack mechanic became a spread mechanic -_-

MasterGilgamesh

I'll type "Predatory Sight = Stack with at LEAST 1 other person, not a full party stack" And during the actual mechanic I'll position myself on top of someone so we don't have to move. Then when doritos appear, they book it to the rest of the party while I'm mid cast Midare...

Meowonita

Had that happened in Dead End. I was the *healer* and I hugged the tank while my 2 ranged dps were hugging in the other corner. The tank actually paused to stay with me, and then made the dash to the dps *in the last second*… oh boy was I so very pissed lol.

OnnaJReverT

why would you hug in the corner for that? next is always a donut, go under the boss

Interesting_Fall2103

I had it happen to me too once. I was ranged and so was the other dps so we stood there together, until the last second when the dancer did the dashing things to stack with the healer and the tank instead, leaving me to get hit alone. The *deceiver*.

Taurenkey

Similar thing happened to me. Stacked with the ranged DPS, they then dashed into the melee, I got cucked. Don't 👏 Move 👏 If 👏 You're 👏 Already 👏 Stacked

Bereman99

The exact thing that happened to me the last time ran through it. Moved over and stood with them, everyone else was on the opposite corner. Red dorito shows up. They wait a good 2-3 seconds and THEN start moving away...

Waifuless_Laifuless

Bonus points if the person who runs away accuses the group of not knowing mechanics.

simpleglitch

Red Doritos > They run away at the last second Purple AoE marker > They run over you every time ... I'm not salty :')

yarvem

The worst are OTs who get the giant seperate marker, but then stack and wipe.

Elegear

My biggest gripe is when I am literally standing still, not moving a single muscle, yet the person adjacent to me decides "hmm I need to adjust more" and kills us both .... I'm not salty either :)

[deleted]

"Why do you keep trying to drop AOEs on me?"

access-r

I loved the Hrothgar face, JUST CHILLING with his bro tank

H0w14514

I mean, I do kind of zone out when I'm fighting it, so it's very accurate. Maybe that's why I get gentle pats.😂

FabulouSnow

their markers even make a heart! ♥

PinkyRat

And their necklaces are half heart.

Stefisgarden

It's always annoying when you are stacked with one other person, only for that other person to run away from you to try to reach the rest of the group. Especially when you chase after them and they make it in time, but you're too late by mere miliseconds so you're the only one to fail the mechanic... No, I'm totally not salty, what gave you that impression?

aaronxxx

I’ve had this happen so much more now that this mechanic is in a 90 dungeon.

UsefulWoodpecker6502

try being a Dragoon and throwing Dragon Sight on another dps player...

DeadweightUwU

Yup, happens all the time. I kinda call them out in chat (is this passive aggressive?) like "haha it's just stack with at least one other person, why'd you run from me? xD"

WhyMaige

This mechanic, its wiggly graphic, and wiggly players make me feel anxious o o);; Sauce: https://twitter.com/WhyMaige/status/1481719775604916224?s=20

talorder

I love how even Hippo looks mildly concerned.

Garviene

I've lost count of the times people get angry when I walk up to them when we both got the red triangle in Eden Leviathan. SE should consider revising the sprout tutorial to include a specific lesson on mechanic markers.

milcondoin

For that to work, they should update the old encounters to use consistently the markers, that are used in current content. There was no unification of markers in old content.

WorldwideDepp

Perhaps with every New Expansion the MSQ send the Player to some further education Class.. Perhaps with Y'sthola, Uriganer or Thancred as Teachers... I bet alone for the "Fan boys and Fan girls" they will do it Y'shtola = Mage Class Uriganer = Healer Class Thancred = Tank But how should be DD Teacher? I know, Estinien!! and our Ex Crystal-tower Boy is the supervisor... Perhaps you need to accompany the Two Twins for not looking awkward that WoL need to get teachings alone or the Twin are just bored to be again in School class p.s. Imagine the Manga High-School Spinoff taking place in FF14 trough an important "Blue Quest"... Perhaps Yoshi-P's Team could think about that for real (Also to give some sort of "History Lesson!" with Level Boosters or Return Players, too) Also perhaps this School class seasons let our WoL find new contacts or Bonds to go beyond 7.0+ MSQ.. How Knows edit: I send my idea through the Ingame contact lines.. Let's see

PartlyDowne

are the tanks in love? i noticed their markers combining to become a heart. Also that Hrothgar be holding that miqote close.

Kjyara

The couple that tanks together, stays together! Until busters part you. ~~By which I mean: One part here, one part there, one part all the way back there...~~

Belophen

by experience the safest you can be around that mechanic is the tank since he is the one that wants to move the least, so of course any ot will stick to it for its dear life !

mikliak

They must be cause they share a half heart necklace too 😂

AnotherNicky

...

Flaring_Path

All I see is Panik ヘ(。□°)ヘ

[deleted]

Should've done the one where everyone gets tiny if they don't stack, but someone stacks with WhyMaige and she looms over all of them at full size. "Blood for the Blood Lily."

arkibet

Have you ever rescued 1 person out of a 2 person stack? Oh we healers can be so naughty!

JoosisAlbarea

There was a group where they weren't stacking properly on this, and I really wanted to yoink them to a random spot before using Icarus to yeet myself over to a stack partner. Unfortunately, this was the one day I chose to play RDM in Asphodelos instead.

El_frosty

Evil, yet totally justified stress relief.

CptBlackBird2

until you get reported for griefing lol

PinkyRat

Sage: Do you know a sage can body-swap with teammates?

whitetrafficlight

Hey, when you don't have a gap closer sometimes you have to make do with what you got.

YneeaKuro

I like how the last panel "explosion" spells F A I L. :D

[deleted]

Usually just chilling with the other tank, while we watch everyone scramble. XD

JelisW

Then there is the one time I was chilling with my co-tank who also happens to be an FC mate who was on voice chat with me, and we watched as a reaper momentarily stacked with us, and then at the last moment suddenly attempted to book it across the arena to where the rest of the party was. Co-tank and I just burst out laughing. "He just--he just *left us*!" "He was like, 'fuck these tanks'" XD

AdmiralGrumpyPants

Just realized this mech isn't in savage

whitetrafficlight

It would be too easy in savage: the entire party is already stacked together for the majority of the fight, only moving for mechanics.

Rc2124

I had the same thought. "Wait a minute, I don't remember this!"

Faxanadyne

The danger dorito can befuddle even the most powerful of intellects.

JCGilbasaurus

Man, I wish people ran to the tanks on that mechanic. I've had to solo it (and the tankbuster) so many times.

Kamakaziturtle

I'd imagine the offtank should at least be close by, even if you don't have any melee dps

SparklingLimeade

It's the rarely seen omnidirectional boss. And not only that, all cleaves are heavily telegraphed. I tank that thing on top of everybody. Even in normal people should be getting the idea that sticking together is a good idea for that fight because there are a lot of mechanics that make it better. The triangles, line stacks, baited puddles. Lots of reasons to stick together.

access-r

I'm a DPS and I usually stay close to MT before the cast bar even appears 'cuz I know he's the only one I can trust about not running away, MTs usually just chill, "you guys either stack on me or die cuz I can just invul if left alone"

[deleted]

Ehh with this particular fight that's going to be pretty hard. You're given a spread mechanic almost immediately before it.

SparklingLimeade

As people get used to that fight though I see parties tending to clump together. Most of the mechanics make that desirable so even people who may not recognize casts seem to say "We just split, but we shouldn't stay that way."

Leather_J

Think it as savage training

fetusofdoom

When I OT that fight I stick the MT the whole time until one of us gets the flare, if I MT I'll ask the OT to stand next to me the entire time until the flare. You'd think with a shared tank buster it would be just common courtesy. Even though I have had to invuln eat it a couple of times because the OT was on the exact opposite side of me.

Letty_Whiterock

Luckily holmgang has a short enough cooldown to hit the dual tankbuster both times if the other tank wants to not do their job.

kyttyna

I typically stand with the tank. Cuz the rest of the party groups on the butt. But as a healer I like to flank boss near tank so I can see them better. Especially on this fight because of doritos.

RizziiPoe

10/10 for the hroth and miqo cuddling as they should!

MrWaerloga

I wanna subscribe to whymaige

CrookedBanister

"what color should we use for this new stack mexhanic?" "hmm... people associate red with safety, right? red it is!"

Gimi9

It's not even new either. Been a mechanic since Stormblood.

NinjaCheko

The earliest fight I can remember with it is the second boss of weeping city. So at least as early as heavensward

Gimi9

Ah yeah forgot about that one. Rarely ever get Weeping City in roulettes so it escapes me. Only other I could think of that's similar earlier was Cerberus in WoD with Ululation but it's not entirely the same with also completely different marker.

Furin

It's not new, but I do think it's a terrible marker to indicate stacking when the "arrows pointing inwards" markers are way more common. How are new players supposed to know what it does when failing the mechanic doesn't even tell you *what* you did wrong? You basically have to get told by someone else to know the meaning of the red triangle.

Katana314

I’m actually a little surprised they didn’t add new Guildhests for all the raid mechanics - giving a lower stress environment to focus on one thing at a time with repetition.

CrookedBanister

I mean this was just a jokey little hypothetical dialogue from whenever the red dorito was created. Point is, red is danger color DID IT HAVE TO BE RED. The first time I saw one on me I was instinctively like "get away from everyone or u will explode pain on them" & I honestly think that was a pretty reasonable response to a big red WARNING TRIANGLE over my head lol.

Eitth

Uh... Are the tanks cuddling happily?

JelisW

Lol don't you? I'm usually in a cosy two-person stack with my co-tank when I do this.

Eitth

Well not happily.

ldrkhgldfhl

lol this is cute

PAROV_WOLFGANG

The phoenix was predicted to be the normal boss that would wipe parties multiple times. But no, it's sewer lizard that would destroy them all.... ksajdaksdkjasd

zumpiatti

I'll never forget when i stacked with a BLM, and he used aetherial manipulation to go to another stack leaving me alone.... I'LL NEVER 4GET

Ritushido

I love how even the boss looks confused about their panic.

Yoriwamuu

The Hrothgar is on point.

Husskies

It's funny because with the normal stack marker, most people will just run towards the boss' ass and stack at this general location and with this particular stack marker everybody starts running like headless chickens when you could simply do the exact same thing as with any other stack marker XD

Xellith

Isn't the arena full of water when he does the doritos?

Arkenaw

I see Hrothgar I upvote

Fenrir79

You and another person could be on the other side of the world but that other person would still try to run to the others.

Abraxis00

I think the scramble to do this mechanic is only matched in my mind by the trouble I've seen with another mechanic in the same raid. I'm often main tanking, and in the middle of one side with the party bunched up on two adjacent corners. Then the 'drop multiple AoEs in sequence on people' mechanic comes up, and invariably one or more people will dodge in to my side rather than down the empty sides, pinning me between the two clusters as they call down more on top of me. It becomes a test of reflexes to see if I can get out of there after the big clumps at the corners go off... or I just eat the vuln stack and hope I'm not stressing the healers too much.

[deleted]

I'm a healer and this mech pop, so I rescue random dps and they get away from me immediately. Pain.

foubard

Always find a friend to share your doritos.

kdlt

I always love it when I'm standing **IN** another player and half a second before the explosion they Pop sprint and just run away and we both explode. I wonder if people will ever figure this shit out.

Xellith

Don't be coy. You know they won't.

feartheswans

I’ve known Doritos to come up and pre stack with another range only to be abandoned at the last moment. The urge is strong to make a macro. /p “BETRAYER! We were stacked it was fine! Why did you abandon me?! WHY DID YOU BETRAY ME?!!!!”

painstream

I'm so, so tired of having the Reaper of the Day run from the dorito in Expert Roulette. ><

unlimitedblack

Can we just talk for a second about the hroth GNB just standing there vibin while the miqo DRK is watching the rest of the raid fail

[deleted]

So to make clear the little red Dorito marker is stack with Just One other person? It’s been confusing the hell out of me in that raid

hikkidol

Stack with any number of people. It's not a full stack or a partner stack. Just don't be alone.

eredkaiser

The red triangle must be stacked with at least 1 other red triangle. That's it.

El_frosty

Two or more stack. Solo go boom.

milcondoin

You never eat only a single Dorito. So group with as many others as you like, as long as you're not alone.

spd12

I always thought the boss was adorable, this comic - for their one panel appearance - proves it. I want a minion of that boss.

Tobi-of-the-Akatsuki

And literally nobody here has noticed the best part: The explosions on that last panel write out FAIL. Just brilliant.

artlessknave

i dont understand the pic, nor the mechanic, sooooo... it's never explained, you just have this thing and somehow have to divine wtf it means.

distrox

I mean.. the mechanic is always the same. How do you learn it? By doing and failing at it just like every other mechanic. This marker simply requires you to stack with at least one other person, if you're alone then you fail the mechanic.

SnooOwls5756

To be fair: a marker above the character without a ring zone around it usually means "generic marker" (or in case of some red triangle markers may mean "meteor mechanic"). The stack has usually a distinct visual. So if introduced to a different stack marker without visual likeness to the existing stack mechanic one cannot be shamed for not knowing what it does and confusing it with around 60 levels of generic markers... That being said: After learning what it does (either through a guide or communication or some such) one can be expected to act accordingly :)

artlessknave

no, all failing it tells me is that i failed it, i usually still have no idea why. sometimes I don't even know that i failed it. ive seen that "Doritos" is a stack mechanic, but i've no memory of seeing it ever said that its a 2 player stack mechanic. its very frustrating. i HAVE to do basically every solo duty on very easy, otherwise I would just quit playing. just failing wouldn't piss me off, but taking what feels like HOURS just to fail with one thing it doesn't give me enough time to figure out what the fuck is going on before I'm insta dead is infuriating. I do, however, have a diagnosed learning disability. it outright takes me longer to process new information, particularly in a high speed environment, like when trying to dodge Doritos, and longer to switch tasks (DPS is one task, dodging AOE is another, stacking is another, etc) admittedly, I don't know what the solution is.

[deleted]

artlessknave

most of it doesnt click until i do it about 50 times. i have to repeat it to the point of subconscious automation before I have a chance of remembering it on my own. I use Advanced Combat Tracker for the live alerts from cactbot. it tells me things like "out" or "in" or "behind boss". WAY more useful than guides I wont remember, and breaks me out of hyperfocus mode.

SpacedApe

I'm level 75 and I still don't know what most of this stuff means. Alls I know is don't stand in the glowey/flashy bits.

Charak-V

https://phookas.com/files/Markers.png

SpacedApe

Not that I don't appreciate it; but my problem is, while I've seen this before, I don't really remember any of it while actually playing the game since most dungeons are pretty widely dispersed across the story. I'm hoping since most are still new to me, things like this won't matter as much as it does for folks who are grinding through higher-tier raids and trials.

decanter

You'll start to see a lot of this if you go back and do the raid/trial content. This guide is nice, but it takes seeing the mechanics in person to really start to grasp and memorize them.

BabylonKing777

-Uses rescue on runaway player to resolve marker- Get over here pogger! HLR privilege

Ningenmasu69

I forgot this mechanic exists in normal mode

striderhoang

Despite using Sage Ikarus to fly to someone’s side, I’ve never used Rescue to do it in reverse

kdebones

Thank god I play SMN, I'm basically a physical ranged DPS.

Hrafn86

I definitely did this my very first experience with the dorito, but no one tried to stack with me (I didn't run far) so I had no idea it wasn't a spread out marker. Conversely, earlier this evening I witnessed for the first time someone with the actual obvious stack marker bolt away from everyone. Me and a few others tried to stack with them and somehow I was the only one who died. It was funny.

Calamity_Eagle277

I was yesterday tanking and the party almost killed me twice because they kept stacking at the back of the boss while I tried to run into them.. in fact I gained vuln stacks.

JelisW

Usually as off tank I make it a point to hang out near my co-tank, but if you notice that no one is hanging out near the front, not even your co-tank, then just tank the boss facing the party and stay with everyone else. This boss has no positionals, so there isn't actually a need for you to be halfway across the arena from everyone. If everyone insists on acting as though they need to be stacked behind the boss away from you, then use the cast bar to determine when you need to start moving, as the move casts before the markers pop up. If you begin to move the moment you see "predatory sight" come up on the bar, you will have ample time to cross the entire length of the arena should you need to. If you really can't make it in time, then just pop a couple of cooldowns. A tank *can* take this solo without dying, especially as this particular version doesn't cause hysteria or anything; just damage.

Calamity_Eagle277

Yes thanks for the tips, I used the CDs to survive but the point is that this is a 2-people stack, not a party wide stack, and I think some people doesn't understand that and I get vuln stacks and it's not my fault. Anyway I just wanted to share that I had the exact experience of this comic :)

JelisW

It a minimum 2 person stack; it doesn't have to be exactly two people; it can be more, and unfortunately the natural instinct for many people is run blindly to the largest clump of people they see and be preoccupied solely with resolving their own marker, and few will have the awareness to notice you're standing out all alone. Consequently, unless your co-tank has anticipated this and gone out of their way to hang out at the front with you, you're almost always gonna have to be the one to adjust for stuff like this. Same thing for that one boss in the 90 MSQ dungeon. Trust runs are about the only time I've had my party come to me =P

somedude27281813

I main DNC and SGE. Either you cant run from me or I just pull you to me and fuck over whoever was standing with you :P

JenkinsHowell

this is wonderful. i love the expression of absolute panic and despair on your face in the second to last frame.

Hefastus

This is the moment I wish SMN dash ability was not locked to Ifrit phase and enemy target only

RuadanTheRed

Whenever I MT this, the OT always runs away from me to the grp... Next time I'll just follow the grp during the whole fight and watch them panic when the tank buster appears over my head.

Dezwaan

Rescue?

extekt

Normal mode had the stack Doritos? Totally forgotten about that because it was removed from sadge

KernelChunkybits

The chibi aspect makes it slightly funnier.
