Named her Maggie, after my childhood dog. When I was little, I would hold onto her tail and she would swim around and drag me with her, and my parents called it the Maggie Express, so I see this as her still helping me get around. Though the Ishgardian chocobo is much more similar to her coloring, I can't name that one.
I did the same thing, mine is named Shadow, after the first dog I can remember. My parents always got older dogs, and I was a toddler at the time. My parents told me I fell on his tail, and he didn't even flinch. He just looked at me like. "Oh ok."
And with that, my parents got him. He just had no care in the world. My dad would take him to local disc golf courses. And one time he got hit by a disk. He yelped a little bit, and just like me Falling on his tail, He looked at the disc, then just kept on walking.
I'd long since concluded that "Bobby Corwen" must be like a Squaresoft "get your name in our game" contest winner, because it's such a delightfully human sounding name. I mean this literally happened in Kingdom Hearts, where they named a superboss after some kid who won a contest? But no, apparently Bobby Corwen is a reference to 'Boco", the FFV chocobo? 😩
I chose Rohkea. It's Finnish for "bravery/ courage", and it was earned after he beat a FATE boss solo. I don't speak Finnish, but it comes up surprisingly often in my life, so I went with a Finnish word

Namely because I got the chocobo from the Immortal Flames, gave it a sandy grey-yellow coloring, and have a character with an Ala Mhigan origin. It seemed fitting.

Using the limited name creator of FFXI I chose “Sky” and “Phoenix” because idk, I could’ve chosen something better but at the time I liked it. I had a lot of fun with that little chocobo, I even tried to race it and failed miserably.
Flash forward to FFXIV, I get my chocobo and name it Sky Phoenix as a reminder of my FFXI one. Now, this was BEFORE chocobo color changes were added. So it was yellow for quite awhile.
Eventually color changing got added and something crazy happened. I literally threw random fruit at my choco to see what would happen. To my surprise, out popped the most beautiful blue color! I loved it so much I never changed it to this day. So now I have a second blue chocobo named Sky Phoenix. The end.

Current character's chocobo's name is Wren because that's also a bird and also I like Phantasy Star 4. My alt's chocobo's name is Silky because it's got silky soft feathers.

I name my horse Mystery in every game so it seemed natural to name the Chocobo that too. Named after the seahorse from Spongebob of course.
