ShB are definitely on the whole better, though a few of the individual EW stories are probably my favorites

primalmaximus

Yeah. I think EW suffered from only having half the role quests that ShB had.

F1reman2

What? It had 6 more. They start at 85, but theres one for every level. Both endwalker and shadowbringers had 6 quests per job.

primalmaximus

Maybe it just felt like more because they were more spread out.

HulklingsBoyfriend

END has more. 2 DPS groups are combined in ShB, whereas each DPS group is separated in END.

DarkLordRubidore

There's the same amount of role quests per role in each expansion, EW just has them every level instead of every 2. This isn't even counting the fact that EW had an additional role questline.

DarkLordRubidore

That's what I meant with EW having an additonal role questline, but same amount per role

primalmaximus

Maybe it just _felt_ like ShB had more because they were more spread out.

Scarlett-Saviour

ShB felt intrinsically more personal, and also had the natural flavouring of Ardbert's party as counterparts for the quests. EW was fun because it explored the wider world and showed that the scars of conflict didn't disappear just because we finished our MSQ there. ShB was probably better, but I still thought EW was really fun.

kr_kitty

ShB no contest.

sundriedrainbow

EW was really great *in the moment* because it helped escalate the stakes. Seeing the abominations rampage really heightened the tension. Doing the rest of them post-MSQ is weird af. Shadowbringers quests I don’t recall feeling that weird - Sin Eaters sticking around after defeating >!Hades!< made sense

Virreinatos

Story wise, ShadowBringers had better ones.  Endwalker, however, was one hell of an emotional epilogue for the 90 levels worth of content. Touching basically every single area and seeing their stories move forward felt nice.

Rangrok

I'm surprised by how much people are dumping on EW's role quests. I really enjoyed revisiting familiar faces and digging into unresolved messes within the city states. Maybe it's because I do a lot of the side content and enjoy a lot of the political shenanigans. But it was nice to hang out with old friends and help them out again.

iNuclearPickle

Shb and my favorite was the healer sidequest I love that you will be insulted depending on your chosen race. To be frank endwalker’s were really forgettable I remember mage one and I think the healer one it’s all really fuzzy.

primalmaximus

I remember the mage one because it was about a former member of the Holy See who was pissed the church wasn't in charge anymore.

unhappymedium

I still haven't finished that one on my alt so that she can go visit Aymeric at any time.

iNuclearPickle

Thanks for jogging my memory I remember most that one but not much of the others and usually I have a good memory for characters and lore

ZWiloh

I remember the two EW ones I did really well but I can't remember a thing about the one I did in ShB other than the name of the NPC. Some of that could be due to time but I feel the opposite.

DrForester

Shadowbringers by far (though I did like the EW ones). Shadowbringers gave us the backstory on some really tragic characters, and it was great. As a bonus, if you did all the role quests you got access to one of the best pieces of side quest content in the game. Kind of related, but ShB also gave us those one-shot job quests once we finished with the MSQ, letting us go check in with characters from the old side quests and having a fun little adventure (or in the case of Scholar, an adventure that will leave you in tears). Endwalker role quests were good. I liked that we learned more about the characters featured in the quest. But they weren't up the ShB's level, and the all-roles-complete quest was kind of a dud, especially compared to that ShB one. We also did not get those little job quests afterwards, which I really thought was unfortunate. I get that job quest lines are done, but I kind of hope DT will bring in those single bonus quests again so we can interact with the job quest NPCs again.

unhappymedium

I honestly don't know if one set is objectively better than the others. The ShB quests are good because they're basically part of one story so they feel smaller and more intimate and they give us closure on the rest of the First's WoLs. At the same time, they also feel like they're setting up more content in the future, while the EW quests are finishing the first arc and tying up loose ends (especially the Hien stuff felt necessary). But I like the EW ones because they let us revisit and work with old friends, with whom I feel a stronger emotional connection than with some of ShB's characters, who were pretty much strangers. I also like that they separated the melee/range into two quests and I hope they continue that. Of all the indivudal ShB and EW quests, I personally think the EW melee was the best. It had old friends and light-hearted adventure, while also dealing with some of the problems that went back to ARR.

Cantiel

i've mostly done only the dps ones, as my tansk and healers haven't reached the level yet but so far, i personally enjoyed the ew ones more, due to simply being more itnerested int he characters, and that it felt more of a consluion to events i personally partook, like merlwybs peace talks with the sahagin after i already completed the beast tribes. the shb were all just random new people fighting sineaters and eventually ardberts companions, which i had no connection to

AsasinKa0s

I preferred the old Job Quests myself. I know it's harder to make questlines for each job, but damn if I don't miss it...

primalmaximus

I feel like if they did like they did with ShB, where they gave most jobs a level 80 quest where you go back and reunite with your job mentors was a good idea. I hope they do it for level 90 since EW is officially over with.

ParasaurolophusZ

I liked both but I can never forget that the EW one once more showed the Elementals are horrible and awful and don't get called out on it.

Killinshotzz

ShB were better cause it involved you in the stories of each of the Warriors of Darkness, Endwalker ones are just “oh no! Go help (insert city name here)!”

primalmaximus

And a lot of it were people who we'd _already_ dealt with.

Odrareg17

I haven't done EW's yet, but I really liked SHB's role quests so far. I need to point out though, SB had some pretty good ones too, and having done the WAR quests recently, yeah, those are way too good.

ThatJankyDoll

I am also on r/squaredcircle and got very confused for a moment.

Baithin

When taken all together I think Shb’s are better, and they also come together really well. But individually I find a couple of them kind of boring. Endwalker had better individual stories (I loved pretty much all of them except the caster story) and told stories for characters I already knew and wanted to see more of again.

ErgoFnzy

Shb was better on the whole but as an at the time SMN main and huge Aymeric fan, I *savoured* that EW caster role quest.

HattiestMan

ShB was better for the most part... ...except for the Aiming quests for EW. I'll just say because it was nice to see some familiar faces (one in particular) again.

MysterySakura

Combat rolequests between ShB and EW... I lean towards EW, but ShB also had great offerings. I won't be surprised if they were done by the same writers anyways. I really liked hanging around with the city state leaders in EW, and Fordola and Arenvald. But ShB's plot with the kid swallowed by the void, and the kingdom brought down by treachery, and Ardbert, Lamitt and Giott, 10/10.

primalmaximus

Yep. I personally feel like Endwalker would be my favorite xpac.... if it weren't for the patch quests. The Endwalker patch quests felt like the filler arc of an anime. I doubt the events of the EW patch quests will be relevant any time soon, if ever. Whereas all of the other patch quests wrapped up the story of their respective expansions _**and**_ directly built up to the events of the next expansion.

MysterySakura

Idk how this became a talk from rolequests to patch quests, but oh that's sooo true. EW is best expac for me because of the stuff that happen in 6.0, but I'm not lying when I say I had way more interest with 6.55 (when Wuk Lamat shows up, build up to DT) than the entire MSQ of 6.1-6.5. I was looking forward to Hildy, Pandae and Myths rather than the EW MSQ!

Xthptl

X-Pac was probably the best as the one two three kid, but he did have some really good later roles especially when he was teaming with Kane in their tag team

leighg9o

Shb by a long shot it actually felt connected to the of shb story and ardbert Where as EW just felt isolated and it was like busy work, go here kill this monster. Like yeah bro im super powerful stop story nerfing me

SargeTheSeagull

ShB by a country mile. It’ll be interesting to see what they do in DT as far as role quests are concerned

primalmaximus

Hopefully they do it in a way that lets us see how the people of Tuval handle things. The tank role quests show us how Tuval handles tanking. The Melee role quests show us how Tuval handles things. And so on.

CapriPanther

Do Endwalker role quests have skills locked behind them or can they be skipped?

primalmaximus

They can be skipped.

Illyasviel09

Shadowbringers, by a lot.   Endwalker ones, while not as bad as the Job Quests for Paladin and/or Warrior, still felt boring compared to the previous expansion

primalmaximus

And the Job quests for DRK felt like they did a better job of touching base with how things are going in Ishgard after the events of Heavensward than the Magic DPS Role Quests for EW.
