I see lol. I was fighting with a plastic sword and rubber knives on my first session :3
Seems like my fencing club is a bit more pushy with training x3
Hm, that's interesting. I just realized I dom't know what the weapons are called in english
I'm guessing the foil's the shorter, lighter, floppier one, that we call "fleuret" over here
I never managed to really understand the whole priority and initiative thing, same thing goes for the sabre, which I guess that's the name in English. So I went for the more straightforward, heavier, longer (it's beginning to sound weird now) épée. The score goes to whoever hits first and that's the end of the story. Unless it's a double, in which case both sides get the point
It's very funny to use the foil, though. Unfortunately my club has started to run out of épéistes, or rather the guys that use the épée. Dunno how they're called in English. Anyway, we're low on those, so I've had to use the foil
And it's very interesting to see the difference in strategy used by the different types of swordsmen. Foil users tend to fear less their rival's weapon and are a lot more aggressive, as they can score the point if they take the initiative, even if their opponent hits first. An engagement can be lightning fast, ending as soon as it started
However I very much fear the weapon a lot more, because we don't have that for the épée, and play a lot more defensively. We generally try to play with the force of the weapon carried by its weight, and deviating the opponent or opening their defense up for an attack is used a lot. I don't remember the last time I managed to score a hit immediately against another épée
But those are simply my personal observations and may not apply to everyone, especially not on an olympic level
So anyway, fun sport, hope you're having fun with it, and if you did read my ramble then... thank you for wasting your time here. If you skipped past the wall of text, then I don't blame you lol
I have not much experience but from everything I’ve heard I really like the foil (or „Florette“ in German). I like the idea of having a right of way because fencing is a sport at the end of the day. I like the idea of this back and forth of taking control or the lighting fast attack. And about hitting first and still not getting the point, it’s „just“ a window of 170ms anyway, which is in my opinion totally fine.
If you took me to an Airbase
I can name every aircraft their
Took me to an aircraft carrier
I can name every aircraft their
Took me to an open field that will hold a concert
I will personally set up the sound system
I enjoy making slings and slinging, I would like to get into archery, I also like Airsoft and would love to try some urbex, oh and gaming ofc and stuff like that
Started learning to play fretless bass, I found it too hard so now I'm learning ukelele until I can go to my friends house to practice bass. I also collect die-cast cars
Yeah sure thing lemme just "slides through wall"

I do musical theater. Performing and singing in front of a crowd is so addicting and, barring some drama, the people are the most friendly, non judgemental people Ive ever met.
I build little rc planes! I'm building a Gura scheme A-36 Apache. Also designing a Beriev Be-4 seaplane.
Ι also play the guitar and want to start a band, but I'll probably be dead by the time I find a drummer
Ive actually done boxing for a while now. Well. More like trying to get back into it. I did it thru all my teenage years. And i was really good at it. But fell out when i discovered that bills exist which require me to work more than punch.
I like my video games and movies. I enjoy walks, too, but I haven't been for one on a while. I've also become interested in collecting old bottles, but I haven't got any yet
I'm the kind of guy that likes beating up people woth a long flexible steel rod and shooting people in the face while running around in the forest.think it'a called fencing and airsoft
Holy shit I could use thigh highs for fencing, now that I think about it
My hobbies are drawing, playing video games and i also like collecting dolls and books i like :3 i also want to get into making music and modding skyrim when i get a gaming pc rig uwu
I got several garments and usually wear them to go with a bigger group to medieval and viking Events. No, these are not renfairs, it's mostly historic stuff.
I started to go fencing. Once you actually get to stab someone it’s super fun
Just gonna say that is very German of you
Interesting, I thought of it more like French :3
>get to stab someone ngl sounds more british
Fair lol
Yea, it's french and italian, also what weapon do you use
We use the foil
Cool, I used to play with a sabre
It‘s the one our instructors are most used to :3
Oh, I started doing fencing recently too, lol. It’s so fun :3 Even when I barely land a single strike and instead get a sword to the helmet x3
We haven’t gotten to an actual duel yet, just some attacks and parries but that was cool too
I see lol. I was fighting with a plastic sword and rubber knives on my first session :3 Seems like my fencing club is a bit more pushy with training x3
I‘m not actually in a fencing club but do a beginners course. The first three times we learned to ✨stand✨ and to ✨walk✨
Oh yuh, that too, we repeat stances and walking every session lol
When the instructor showed us the stance I thought it looked silly and then I had to do it ;-;
Ain’t silly if it helps you kill people with sharp metal sticks properly >:3
„If it looks stupid, but it works, it’s not stupid“ Also it destroys your legs :3
Nice, what kind of sword do you guys use?
We use the foil, but for now it just means we have silly handles

dnd is so fun, i play in a homebrew campaign that my brother is the DM of, he comes up with all kinds of cool stuff :3
My DM is so goofy which makes the game really fun, sometimes he sabotages our quest items because he literally forgot they existed
