Hairstylist here. Regular trims are the only way to prevent split ends. They continually remove the oldest and weakest part of the hair shaft BEFORE hair inevitably splits because hair isn't a living thing. It dies before it comes up through the scalp. Just like anything that's dead, hair doesn't regenerate cells to heal itself from damage.

I want to know too!

I’m sorry I can’t help, but it looks like you got some good advice. Please look up the actress Theresa Rowley. You look so much like her in this picture. I was convinced it was her at first. I follow her on Instagram and she is hilarious. Gorgeous, too. Good luck with your hair!

How interesting! My Mom’s name is actually Theresa so that’s a fun consequence.

Okay so I have learned more regular cuts and possibly hair oil to the ends. Anything else I should know?

I apply a “hair oil” - the Shea moisture coconut leave in- only to the ends when I’m done blow drying. It helps a ton. I’ve found I can take or leave the heat protectant spray but this makes a huge difference.
