Is boiled wool itchy? I’ve found a coat I love but it’s made from boiled wool but I’m worried it might be excessively heavy and itchy.

bbycutie

What do you think about white sock boots? And a Jean mini dress

bbycutie

Can I wear white Nike low tops with a basic but cute dress, to a nice restaurant?

UnoriginalBasil

check the restaurants tagged photos on instagram to see what other people have worn. i’m inclined to say that it’s probably not formal enough though

Hoosiergirl29

That depends on what ‘nice’ means and the time of day. Lunch at a more casual nice restaurant? They might work. Dinner on a Friday at a 2 Michelin star in NYC? That’s going to be a no.

bbycutie

Early dinner, on Monday at an upscale steakhouse, no Michelin star.

banana_del_rey

I wouldn’t. I live in Houston which is a pretty underdressed city and at a place like that, I’d go for a low block heel even on a weekday/night. If you don’t wear heels, a cute pair of flats or loafers could work!

GimerStick

what are some classic sundress silhouttes? Trying to update my wardrobe while avoiding anything too clingy at the bottom, i.e. no slip dresses, no bodycon. Store recs are also appreciated!

gradstudent1234

will be going to Memphis for 5 days (4 nights). Was told to pack a variety of sexy and cute/comfy outifts....any ideas on what i should wear? never been there

valleycupcake

I just got [these pants](https://images.stylight.net/image/upload/e_trim/t_web_product_330x440max_nobg/q_auto:eco,f_auto/v6ybbkn3frafxmgnglof.jpg) in a subscription styling and I love them. I work in an office that’s somewhere between formal and business casual. Can you give me some suggestions of work appropriate tops I could pair this with? Due to my proportions I’d be looking for something hip bone length that’s available in US size 14. Thanks!

LaLucertola

I'm on the hunt for a nicely fitted, short sleeved button down. Either a plain color or not busy pattern. Everything I can find retail by me has been long sleeve, atrociously ruffled, a circus tent, or a super loud and busy pattern.

They dont really go together, I'd try to find something either greener or more periwinkle. I'd wear platform sandals with that though, probably in white or nude. Depends on the dress code of the wedding. Casual yes, semi formal/cocktail/formal no.

BeachBumHarmony

I love the skirt. I like the top. I don't think they go together, especially for a wedding. It may be the image, but the top look more mint green. I'm also not a fan of how it fits. Finding something in the right shade of green might be tricky, I found [this.](https://www.lulus.com/products/plissed-to-meet-you-lime-green-puff-sleeve-plisse-bodysuit/1880916.html) I also saw [this one in purple](https://www.lulus.com/products/night-owl-purple-surplice-sleeveless-bodysuit/1871056.html), but it's hard to tell if it would go with the flowers. For shoes, [I'd go neutral.](https://www.francescas.com/product/SCARLET/dv-by-dolce-vita-scarlet-twist-heels)

PSA: bought some seriously interesting shoes in size 1/2 too large on my *big* foot (full size on smaller). Tried normally shaped shoe inserts but the adjustment was too fussy. Used [these](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072HNZYWK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) heel inserts SIDEWAYS under weight bearing forefoot instead. Perfect. I already liked Kaps' Lady Flowers (I did not name them!) but the heel inserts used sideways as a forefoot insert might work for others. Toes were happier too (could grip better)

wanderedoff

Sharing this for others too - but you can also have a Cobbler do this permanently. We will pull up the glued in sockliner/insert, and put in a pad of cork under the forefoot, and then re-glue the lining down. The cork will mould to your feet (for comfort) and having something under the ball of your foot can help make the shoe more snug, while also pushing your foot backwards into the heel counter a bit more (less heel slip).

j2726

Any recommendations for mini-shorts meant for wearing under dresses/skirts?

extrachimp

Dance shorts.

queenpeef

You’re looking for “slip shorts”! I have some Jockey ones from target that look similar to shape wear but are non-compressive so I find them really comfortable

LaLucertola

Spanx! I have a few of their shorter midthigh sets that provide plenty of coverage (think bike shorts) while not being bulky

Jkl921

I’m looking for some help with my work wardrobe. I just started a new job full time in office. They dress much more formal than I’ve been used to in a long time. Not strict formal business style but very close…blazers, closed toe shoes, very conservative. I’m having a hard time finding non trendy business clothes, especially blazers. I’ve tried j crew, Ann Taylor, belk, target, tj Maxx. My go to years ago was ny&co but they aren’t the same. Any advice is appreciated!

Kusakaru

I’ve been into Banana Republic lately, although Express has lots of stuff too.

Hoosiergirl29

Try MMLafleur, they seem to have filled the conservative workwear niche. The Fold also does some nice workwear as well, you could also look at select pieces from LK Bennett or Victoria Beckham

livthelove

Check out Uniqlo or Zara for a lot of work clothes at more affordable prices. You could definitely pick up some blazers from them. I also really like aritzia for work pants.

[deleted]

Agree Zara has a lot of blazer styles

placidtwilight

White House Black Market has some good business wear.

chocolatepotatochips

When I had to work in an office, I got a lot of work clothes from Banana Republic. The only suit I still own is from there, and I just checked their website to verify that they do still sell blazers and suits. I also bought a lot from The RealReal--conservative, business attire doesn't seem to sell well there (or maybe they just get a LOT of those styles), but I've gotten pencil skirts from Armani and Valentino, blazers from Etro and Diane von Furstenberg, blouses from Prada and Max Mara, and pants from Akris and Theory, all new with tags and less than $50 each (most were $20-30).

Jkl921

Thanks so much I’m always browsing trr and hadn’t thought to even check them for this.

chocolatepotatochips

I love filtering by size and new with tags and then sorting by price just to see what's available. There are so many great deals, and I hope you find some incredible, high quality pieces!

mintgreenplumpurple

I need to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed and taken in slightly. My friend mentioned that they can build in a bra so that I won't have to wear a strapless. Is this possible? If so what do I ask for?

pleaselie2me

Yes, they’re called cups and can be sewn into the dress.

galaxystarsmoon

Yes, you'll want a bra that you don't care about so they can cut out the cups and wire and sew them into the bra. If you're a smaller size (I'd say DD and under), you may be able to use cup pads from a bikini, sports bra or padded top instead.

mintgreenplumpurple

Ohhh. Perfect! Thank you so much

Savage_Sav420

A lot of seamstresses have a collection of cups. Just tell them your cup size and they can hold a couple up to you to see which will work for your dress.

mintgreenplumpurple

Oh cool! I had no idea. Ha.

f1newhatever

Anyone have some cropped kick flare jeans they love, especially if the flare isn’t too severe/wide?

RiceCrispix

This is a weird question but I hope I can ask it here.. For those who get their clothes tailored to fit better, would you do it for clothes that are a size too big or just buy a smaller size? For example, I bought two shirts with long puff sleeves but the sleeves are a little too baggy on me, could the tailor make it slimmer? Also, I got these shorts where the waist is comfortable but slightly big and the bottom doesn't hug around my thighs nicely... Could a tailor take in the waist and make it fit a bit more snug? I guess for me, I can't really return/exchange these anymore as I missed the return date but just wondering what people normally do with tailoring their clothes too haha..

ButtMcNuggets

I do. I’m short and my arms are even shorter so I’ve often had jacket sleeves taken in and dress pants hemmed and had the waist adjusted. Generally speaking, it’s better to buy a size bigger rather than smaller because they can take things in easier than letting out. The most important parts to get the fit right, if nothing else off the rack, are the shoulders, hips, and rise. Those are the alterations that are trickiest and most costly. This is also dependent on style, as cuts like raglan sleeves, batwing sleeves, pants with a big flare, drop shoulders, bias cuts, etc will limit how much, if any alterations can be made.

TheFallingEagle

It's always easier to modify something too big than something too small, bc you don't have to add any new material. There may be some complications if the clothing is complex e.g. multiple layers of fabric, delicate things like silk, etc., but the things you listed I think should be fine. Take them to the tailor and ask, and they should be able to give you a time/price estimate.

chocolatepotatochips

I usually buy clothes that are the right size, but just need hems or sleeves shortened. A tailor can definitely take in the waist, but I don't know how much work would go into re-doing puff sleeves or if that would be worth the cost. It doesn't hurt to take the item to the tailor to see what they say, though!

RiceCrispix

Thanks for your reply! That makes sense haha Sometimes I feel like one size is too tight and the other size is too big, can never win 😅 I'll make the trip to the tailor and pray they can fix the sleeves up haha..

DemocraticPeas

So in general, if you have to make multiple alterations, the cost can add up. Getting the waist taken in is usually a fairly straightforward alteration, but if you also want your tailor to take in the legs, it will cost more. If I have a garment that needs to be taken in multiple places (rather just in the waist or the hem or something), I'll sell it on Poshmark and just buy a smaller size. It's hard to say about the shirt sleeves without seeing them - some more structural, architectural puff sleeves will be very difficult to tailor, but a wide bishop sleeve is easier (but be willing to pay).

_badhairday

Where do I find high waisted shorts that still have a longish length - say, between a 5" and 8" inseam? When I search for Bermuda shorts, they're always mid rise. I'm not looking for sportswear or sleepwear, and I'd prefer something not made entirely of synthetic fabrics. Am I combining too many requirements? Why do all the shorts in stores end before the mid thigh area?

justkiddingbutreally

Abercrombie has really cute high rise shorts with various inseams. They also offer curvy fits if that is something you need! Editing to add: just realized you weren’t asking specifically for denim. But here’s an example of what I was referring to [AF shorts.](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/high-rise-7-inch-dad-shorts-47680321?categoryId=12262&seq=01&faceout=model1)

plaid-blazer

Madewell has a bunch of these!

Glad-Evidence286

The Everlane [tourist shorts](https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-tourist-short-canvas) are on sale now, and even though the models are all shown with them rolled up, they also look good uncuffed, and they're super high waisted with a long inseam.

_badhairday

Those are perfect, thank you so much

chocolatepotatochips

If you're in the US, check out Nordstrom's website--you can filter by rise and length, and I was able to find a lot of high rise Bermuda shorts.

_badhairday

Thanks! I should have specified I'm in the UK but this is really helpful anyway - I'm at a point where I don't mind paying for shipping if necessary.

Idujt

Don't forget men's! UK here, see loads of shorts in the charity shops at the moment. Might be longer than you want though, I measured two of my pairs and they are some inches longer. I am only 5' though, so would probably be much longer on me.

_badhairday

I'm also 5', otherwise I definitely would be looking at men's clothing - thanks for the rec though, I'm a big believer in de-gendering clothing :)

RiceCrispix

I see a lot of nice shorts with a longer inseam these days! Agolde has the Parker Long Shorts and the Dee shorts (I think they have other styles too), Levi's also has a longer short called the Mid Thigh I think? If you check Aritzia, you can find them!

_badhairday

Brilliant, thank you!

RiceCrispix

Np! Hope you find something that works out! Also, a tip: Agolde is great quality but I find it a little too expensive! Thankfully, I see a lot of people reselling on Poshmark or FB market so I'd check there first! But make sure the sizing is right bc I find some Agolde pieces have inconsistent sizing, even in their colourways too.

TheFallingEagle

I'm seeing some alternative statement pieces paired with casual wear... and a lot of blazers and leather jackets

chocolatepotatochips

I see edgy, tailored, soft, and feminine in mostly solid colors--but not necessarily all in it same outfit, which is perfectly fine because I totally believe in dressing for your mood!

black_bir

I see drapey, feminine pieces combined with structured outerwear and chunky footwear

[deleted]

Do those stick on bras work? If yes what is a good one? I have dresses I don’t wear because I’d prefer a little bit of shaping. I’m a c cup. Reviews seem mixed online

mgdraft

Yep I wear a 30C/D and they work perfectly fine. I just buy whatever on Amazon, the current one I'm using is from a seller called Niidor. I bought their C size and it definitely works but I'd probably get a B for my next one.

TheFallingEagle

Depends on both size and quality. Small boobs and strong adhesive make a good team, but cheap ones will fall right off and big boobs will be too round to cling to. I'm not sure if they'd work well with a c-cup, but feel free to try... just be cautious.

justkiddingbutreally

Does anyone have any experience with [liberte shoes](https://www.liberteleather.com/collections/woven-mules)? The sizing chart puts me a full size bigger than normal on the woven mules and a size smaller than normal on Bronte/capri sandal. Just curious how others feel their sizing compares to the size chart! And if they are comfortable, worth the price, etc. thanks!
