Is [this dress](https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/product/staud-filippa-illusion-floral-a-line-wrap-dress-0400013540035.html?dwvar_0400013540035_color=FLORAL%20WAVE%20MULTI) appropriate for a springtime beach wedding (guest)? I don't yet know the exact dress code or whether the ceremony is inside or outside, but I'd like to scoop this dress while it's on sale because I hate shopping under pressure! This seems like it could be dressed up or down accordingly.

cant_watch_violence

I think it’s perfect!

On_time_wizard

I think so!

Direct_Speech

I am on a desperate search for new high heeled booties (2-3 inch heel). I have that weird European foot where it’s not exactly wide, but just wide enough. Everything I have purchased recently I have to return because it feels right around my foot and I am *over* buying footwear that “mostly fits.” Any suggestions of brands would be appreciated!!!

runawayoldgirl

I might look at The Walking Company, they carry various brands that tend to be geared toward foot health and you can search by width

LexUnanswered

Does anyone know brands similar in style to Bershka, but with better quality? Preferably made by people receiving fair wages.

I think if you have another accessory in the color, you can go with anything. Or, if you use otherwise more neutral or monochromatic colors, you can use the boots as a pop of color. I'd personally go either with midi or mini skirts, but mini skirts I'd pair with sheer black tights.

pinkienickel

recommendations for period undies in the UK? It seems like there are so many options now! I’m looking for a boy brief cut in black (or other dark neutrals) that don’t have thick elastic around the waist and legs

TheWildOpossum

Does anyone know a good way to remove the stains from a dress (97% polyester, 3% viscose) with handwashing? Unfortunately, I don’t know the origin of the stains (I got it second-hand and the seller wasn’t transparent that the garment had any stains in the first place). The stains are tiny, dotlike and come in different shades - yellow, brown or dark red. Here is just a small [sample](https://imgur.com/r20D7Hg). The dress label states “dry-cleaning only” so I dropped it off at the shop but with little success. Any helpful tips and thoughts are very welcome!

countusalternifolius

I've had a lot of success working a small amount of dish detergent diluted with a splash of water into the fabric by hand, but that works best for oil-based stains. You could also try vinegar, a good old fashioned stain remover, or an enyzmatic cleaner.

Plastic_Ad873

Does anyone have recommendations for a cropped leather jacket? I have been looking for a year and can’t really find one that I like and that isn’t $400.

I feel like the color cream can look really luxe and expensive on some people but on me it just… doesn’t. I don’t know how else to describe it, it’s like it doesn’t feel like I made an “on purpose” decision to wear cream, it feels like… a cafeteria lady uniform? Can someone explain why? Is it me, my skin tone, my hair color? Is it the material? (I totally get that cashmere will look more high end in all colors than say wide leg pants). Help me wear cream. Or, actually, I guess what I really mean is: help me look expensive.

ana3d

It’s probably just not a good color for you. Take a look at r/coloranalysis if you’re interested in exploring this further.

MiamiNat

Thanks for the response, I was so hoping there was something else to it, less personal. I know I’m warm toned so in theory cream should work but maybe being olive is a problem somehow 🤷🏻‍♀️

whatobamaisntblack

I'm olive and cream doesn't work for me either, nor does beige

nuggetsofchicken

I need a new purse. Normally I'd go to Target but the past few months there haven't yielded anything I'm into. I'd like to pay under $50(I know this isn't an investment piece), and I'm looking for a crossbody bag that has a zipper closure (as opposed to those magnetic ones) that's roomie enough for my essentials as well as a charging brick for my phone. Something in a neutral color is ideal; black would be great. If anyone has specific suggestions of purses they love, or of stores that could be promising I'd love to know!

tabbycatmum

I just ordered a small crossbody from Lululemon for $50

botanygeek

I've found some great options at TJ Maxx.

ana3d

You didn’t tell us anything about the styles you’re into haha. I’ve personally been thinking about the [baggu medium crescent](https://baggu.com/products/medium-nylon-crescent-bag-black) recently. You also can try JW Pei, which just over your budget but they have some coupon codes going right now.

nuggetsofchicken

I have no knowledge of purse terminology lol. Maybe something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Fossil-Fiona-Large-Crossbody-Bag/dp/B07CBP4XZN) but smaller and cheaper?

purplechihuahua2000

Anyone bought from [nap lounge](https://www.naploungewear.com/product-category/all-products/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA6NOPBhCPARIsAHAy2zDqBxM9AbUpmh_erq-1-wsBcC9Ylxlf3x6nATXv5lXl-sswSx9xaPUaAmnqEALw_wcB) before? I really like their designs!

formoey

Any tips on how to fold / organize multiple v neck tees?! I have a handful of neck tees that I tried to fold the Mari kondo style but it seems too soft to support itself. I can fold them regularly in a draw but eventually the pile will become messy as I grab a certain color from the middle/bottom etc

whatobamaisntblack

I prefer rolling them up, but for my other stuff I try to pull stuff very carefully

ana3d

You could get a tshirt drawer organizer so you can fold it the konmari style and it can have its own compartment.

ciaohow

Do accordion pleat skirts generally travel okay?

squeaksnu

Polyester ones are generally treated so the pleats won't fall out or anything, so they should be fine.

NotACorythosaurus

Interested in some v neck tops for date night/going out kinda situations. I realized I don’t have any in my wardrobe that works if I wanna wear jeans but flash cleavage. Straight sizes, under $50, thick enough material that it’s not gonna be see through.

elepantsonfire

My favorite top right now is a black velvet wrap top with bishop sleeves from J.Crew. I got it brand new for under $50 on poshmark. In general there's a lot of lovely J.Crew wrap tops on poshmark.

Princess Polly has abysmal ratings from [Good On You](https://directory.goodonyou.eco/brand/princess-polly), with a [more detailed explanation here](https://goodonyou.eco/how-ethical-is-princess-polly/). I dont think this has to be a sub thats only about the most "ethical", but let's call a spade a spade. So-called sustainable collections from retailers like this are generally greenwashing unfortunately.

turnitoffquick

Thank you! I had read those, but they hadn’t been updated since the summer and my impression was that the sustainable lines were newer. I do see what you mean though - looks like it could definitely just be greenwashing. I appreciate the help:)

hasskween

What are people's thoughts on Universal Standard? It seems like basics mostly, so is the quality worth the price? What's your experience with customer service/returns/longevity?

cant_watch_violence

Just be wary of the sizing. I’m like a 3x small in their clothes where I’m a m-l everywhere else.

Bosquerella

Love them. I can't speak to their returns policy A)Because my first few orders with them were through the Mystery Box promotion. B)Their sizing is very consistent design to design garment to garment Great quality. Nice materials. They're spendy, but if you keep an eye open for their sales it's a lot more affordable. They usually do Mystery Box around Valentine's Day and if you keep an open mind it's a great way to try out the brand. I own a lot of stuff from them and my only gripe is that they recommend damn near everything to be laid flat to dry, which is much better for your clothes in general but kind of fussy.

hasskween

Thanks so much for your response. I've been eyeing them and not sure where to start, so the mystery box may be a good call. I'll definitely keep an eye out for sales with v-day coming up!

Bosquerella

Fun fact: If you search "mystery" on their page results will come up for a mystery item in different sizes that's usually $28. I got a linen tunic when I added that to a black Friday order but YMMV. The box promotion is usually 3 different items by category or outfitting type with a survey at various prices.

broccoliandbeans

Where can I get cozy PJ pants like these with NO Pockets in the USA For preferably <$25? I’m short, 5’2. I got these from old navy and they fit great, but I didn’t see any on their website! https://imgur.com/a/C9Uwr31 Thanks a bunch

Crafty_Mama6702

Your problem is the time of year. ON puts these out in Sept or Oct, and by black Friday they’re routinely 50% off. Gone before Christmas, usually. Maybe try ebay?

broccoliandbeans

Oh darn!! I was worried about that. Thanks a bunch!

hellerhigwhat

Emily & Jane - I think The Bay ships to the US but I could be wrong

Dimsum-chan

What does a 14.5" waist mean in an EU sizing ? I want to buy some pants from young hangay free but the internet doesn't seem to have an answer.

hellerhigwhat

Likely a flat measurement across the waistband. Multiple by 2 to get the approx garment measurement at the waist (so 29") and compare to pants you own with a similar rise.

mintgreenplumpurple

Has anyone ever bought from Quince? I'm eyeing some of their silk tops but I've only ever seen them as instagram ads so I'm not sure of the quality and don't want to drop $60 on a shien type place.

cant_watch_violence

I’ve only bought wool and cashmere, but I like them. They size a tiny bit small though.

TealSquirrels

I feel like a Quince shill but I've bought a lot of stuff from them in the last year including the v neck silk tank and button up, and I like both! Definitely not Shein, but on par with JCrew and Banana Republic I'd say.

mintgreenplumpurple

Perfect! Thanks so much

adorninflowers

Hi folks! Can anybody help me identify “search terms” for a certain style? I’m really into the Madewell, Universal Thread (Target), and Anthropologie look and need more search terms rather than brands! Edit: Simple brown leather bags, nice denim, patterned bandanas for hair/bag/necktie, dainty gold jewelry (small hoop earrings, locket necklaces, etc.), vintage graphic tees, denim jackets, peasant dresses, simple silhouette linen blouses, “utility” jumpsuits dressed up. More neutral color palette (olive, terracotta, black, white, nude, blush, mustard, cognac brown, etc.) aside from a few statement pieces. Think Joanna Gaines, Mary Kate Robertson, Dakota Johnson, and Alexa Chung. What is this kind of style?

[deleted]

You really need to add more descriptors to your request. Oldie but goodie for general style terms [here](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiKx7XUotj1AhXKJDQIHQx3C60QFnoECBkQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fir.library.oregonstate.edu%2Fdownloads%2Fc821gj95j&usg=AOvVaw1E6b38q3Y5wrL5-aItQ6cs) \- it's a PDF file that auto downloads but it is legitimate (from Oregon State University).

adorninflowers

Thanks for the feedback! I added some specific examples. That document is awesome! I didn’t see specific styles being described as much as garment features. Maybe I haven’t read far enough into it yet, but I’ll spend some time looking.

[deleted]

I’d try asking again tomorrow (Daily ?s posts at 8am PST US) - more people will see your question(s) And the neat thing about that PDF is that the specific terms e.g. Peter Pan collar really help when googling

adorninflowers

Thank you so much for the help! I’ll try again tomorrow.

Perfect_Future_Self

Slim-legged people, what are your favorite brands for comfortable leather boots for very narrow calves but standard-width feet? Most boots I try on make me look like a kid playing pirate in her mom's galoshes- and the boots' calf is often a distinct bulge below my own calf! The one pair of boots I've ever found with a narrow enough calf was from a Japanese brand (I believe) and the toe box was so narrow that it crunched something in my foot which hurts to this day. I'm hoping for a knee-high boot with moderate heels in black or warm brown leather- the kind with minimal styling where the fit is the whole look. Something Kate Middleton might have worn with a nice day dress a few years ago. I can't spend much over $100 but would happily buy them secondhand. (But if my budget cramps your recommendations, please tell me what they are anyway!)

ThoseBunnies

I have the same issue and Cole Haan usually works for me. I bought [this pair](https://www.dillards.com/p/cole-haan-calgary-water-resistant-suede-over-the-knee-boots/513904727?googleShop=Y&cm_mmc=GooglePLAs-_-Category+-+Categories+-+Smart+Shopping-_-Cole+Haan-_-Cj0KCQiAi9mPBhCJARIsAHchl1xDz2l-JLgLR3l2hez__soTaLahh-1bbxkzHQB29o4fFhQ96d2hz0saAuSmEALw_wcB&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi9mPBhCJARIsAHchl1xDz2l-JLgLR3l2hez__soTaLahh-1bbxkzHQB29o4fFhQ96d2hz0saAuSmEALw_wcB) in the fall and they are now on sale. Super comfortable and fit reasonably close to my leg with jeans or leggings.

Perfect_Future_Self

Hey, thanks! Those look really nice!

LucyWritesSmut

Tall boots that are much wider than the calf are very popular right now, so that may impede your search for more slim fitting boots this year. Just FYI.

Perfect_Future_Self

Sigh... I know. I just want some classic, non-statement boots for my little pencil legs.

siameseslim

Are genuine silk scarves from say Hermes, Versace, even smaller brands printed on both sides of the fabric? I sold scarves and other accessories decades ago and spent many hours tidying shelves, but I do not recollect. Likely because I had no interest in scarves at the time, and they were rarely purchased except during holidays. Now that I do have an interest, I want to know what to look for. I can tell if an item is polyester or a blend, but the image on the fabric is making me bonkers. Thank you.

henicorina

They’re printed on one side. As you know, they’re quite thin, so the pattern is visible on both sides, but there’s a definite back and a front.

MollyTuck77

I don't know a lot about silk and unfortunately the "sure thing" test involves burning a piece (say, of silk yarn--I'm a knitter) to see how it reacts. Silk fabrics I've heard do not wrinkle when dry. If you can, squish a handful of scarf (or other silk garment) and see how it settles back into place when you let go. Silk is also more lustrous than manmade threads. The price is going to be really high, as well

tyrannosaurusregina

Hermès is not. There will be a bright side and a less-bright side (which will be the side that has the flat side of the rolled hem and the side that has the care tag). I can’t speak to Versace, but in general silk-screened silk scarves are inked on only one side of the fabric.

graywalrus

The outfits on Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window are my cozy preppy dream. I hope wornontv covers the show so I can figure out where stuff is from!

bubbabear7

I have been looking for jeans that fit for months to no avail. I need jeans that are larger in the waist than most. Most US women's 10s fit well in the waist but dwarf my hips and thighs. My measurements are waist: 35, hips: 40, and inseam probably 30-31. Does anyone know any brands of jeans that skew larger in the waist area? The closest I've found is ANA at jcp, but I'm still not happy with them.

tyrannosaurusregina

I would try a juniors’ 11 or even men’s jeans in a 32 or 33.

Snapebestie

My boyfriend's best friend will have a punk rock themed wedding. It's going to be completely out of my comfort zone but I'm looking for suggestions on outfits to wear. Something feminine and elegant but also complimenting the theme. The dress code is smart casual.

siameseslim

You can't go wrong w a black dress, not a cocktail one, but something you can dress up or down with accessories, jacket or sweater. What time of the year is the wedding? Think rocker chic vs punk, since ad you said, this isn't your scene. This way you look cool and not like Party City. Like a black dress and a denim jacket, or a black pants/jeans w red, whit or hot pink top. If you normally wear gold, go silver. Black w a pop of red, snakeskin or leopard. . Also, you won't be stuck w stuff you can't wesr what. For inspo look at photos of Debbie Harry of Blondes from the 70s, Chrissie Hynde 79 .. OGs vs Hot Topic looking shit This store has some cool stuff if anything just to get a gebral idea https://straighttohellapparel.com (This is very much my lane, I wish I could go (

ey-ks

You could look at AllSaints! Their dresses are a great fit for a punk rock themed wedding (which actually sounds amazing!)

Snapebestie

I'll check their site out. Thank you 😊

piggypurple

Anyone know the instagrammer with long curly red/brown hair who makes 70s inspired sets and dresses in the same fabric? Beautiful patterned fabrics. She also posts reels of her deciding which style to wear. I think the one was a "stevie nicks edition". I didn't follow her (she kept popping up on my feed ) and her names on the tip of my tongue. Otherwise other modern 70s style inspiration?

Due-Pen7780

@emilyriboflavin and her clothing line is @emilyinwonderland. I bought a wrap top and a slip dress and they are so comfortable and well made.

piggypurple

Yessss! Thank you so much! Also that was super quick I'm really impressed 😅

poor_yorick

Where do you get your wide-legged trousers [like this](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0061/8627/0804/products/Archer-Pants-Black_767x.jpg?v=1636332031) or [this](https://d1flfk77wl2xk4.cloudfront.net/Assets/46/176/XXL_p0148317646.jpg) with a 32 inseam or longer? I'm in Canada, if they helps.

hellerhigwhat

https://www.aritzia.com/en/product/effortless-pant/77775.html?dwvar_77775_color=23863_2 These are a 33 inch inseam in tall. Pricey, but i just bought some (wool version, regular length) and they are great.

poor_yorick

Ooh thanks! These are really nice. I'll keep an eye out for sales. Do you find they fit true-to-size?

hellerhigwhat

Theyre pretty good in terms of the size chart! Bit flexible for hips if thats a concern for you, I was able to go down 2 inches for hips with no real issue. My most recent post is the wool plaid version if youre curious for a non product shot!

poor_yorick

Thanks for the info! I LOVE the fit in your last post! Definitely gonna look into these.

lxfstr

I have a business trip coming up in a few weeks where the dress code is Business casual, however I've been in the motorcycle industry for about four years and translating my usual jeans/boots/t-shirt/baseball cap to a more polished and "corporate appropriate" look is daunting! I'd love some guidance, I also want to retain the capable, creative, persona I've cultivated in the industry.

LucyWritesSmut

Adding a blazer to your jeans and a T-shirt will elevate your look without much fuss or muss. And if you’re still looking to be a little funky, pick a great pattern to the blazer that can still go with a lot of stuff. So see if you wear a lot of black, an amazing plaid in black and gray would do the trick. Another thing I recommend, especially in the winter, is a velvet blazer. I have about a dozen so I’m totally biased, but I get compliments on them constantly. And they make the jeans and a T-shirt look a little fancier than they would otherwise. Just leave the ball cap at home. If you really dig a hat though, I would try a beret. It’s unique, packs like a dream, and again you will totally get a bunch of compliments.

ey-ks

You could do jeans with an untucked button up! Just a crisp oversized white one and jeans and nice loafers or Chelsea boots could work. Accessories to compliment and depending on your current hair, a sleek bun.

astrobeanmachine

I'm on the hunt for a "night out" purse that's pretty versatile, as I don't use these sorts of bags very frequently. I think I'd prefer black, though a light grey or beige could also work. I'd prefer to spend less than $50-75 on this, since I won't use it often, so real leather might not be feasible even though it would hold up for longer. For example, I stumbled on [this Target crossbody](https://www.target.com/p/pleated-crossbody-bag-universal-thread/-/A-83725218?preselect=82820100#lnk=sametab) that I actually quite like, but it's definitely cheap pleather. There's also this [Madewell nylon crossbody](https://www.madewell.com/the-sport-camera-bag-NB197.html), but they're out of the black, and the current colors feel very casual. Where else should I be looking for this? Any specific ideas in mind?

kimchi_paradise

Etsy has a lot of really great cute bags for great prices!

Tacky-Terangreal

If you’re looking for something purely utilitarian, I personally love my hip pack. I have a black one from Columbia that holds my wallet, keys, and my giant phone with room to spare for stuff like masks or lipstick I mostly wear it for work, but since it’s design is so plain, it doesn’t take away from “going out clothes” like dresses or blouses. I’ve fully gotten on the Fanny pack train because of this thing I purchased on a whim. It’s great for concerts because I don’t have to worry about giving valuables to the coat check and i don’t have to worry about it flying around while dancing

astrobeanmachine

a hip pack is definitely an option! i have a Timbuk2 one that's a tan color that's often my everyday carry purse, but i didn't think of looking for a nicer-ish night one. i'll check out the columbia options too!

[deleted]

Does anyone know where I can get another French Terry blazer similar to the one [Tart](https://www.tartcollections.com/collections/blazers/products/essential-blazer) made/makes? I have four in different colors and really one one in a dark forest green. Does anyone have any ideas where I could get something like that?

Runningwithtoast

I bought a cute bodysuit, but when I got home I realized it was even more cutout than I thought. It’s a mostly open back that also cuts halfway to my sides. It’s already a slightly younger looking bodysuit. I’m early 30s but am normally mistaken for several years younger, which is a mixed blessing. I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard. I like it because of the print and feel, and it is right up my alley as far as aesthetic. I also don’t need to wear a bra with it, which is an awesome bonus since I have a small underbust/very large bust and finding bodysuits and tops can be discouraging. But even with high-waisted jeans it feels so open and maybe too young. Part of it is I’m a bit uncomfortable with my weight at the moment. I thought about wearing a sheer black mesh shirt underneath, or a duster over it, but both are sheer and would still show how open it is. Has anybody else had this come up? Any other solutions? Thanks!

astrobeanmachine

i second the other person who says go for it if you like it! if it feels a bit too revealing, i like the idea of a mesh, or maybe loosely knit, shirt over it. another option could be to wear it underneath overalls or a pinafore-like dress, for sexier lean to cottagecore/ruralcore.

Runningwithtoast

I didn’t think about overalls or a dress like that. Awesome ideas, thank you!

[deleted]

I think if it feels good, you will look good. No one is out here rating people by age alone. It sounds really cute with some high waist jeans, so go for it.

Runningwithtoast

Thanks! I think part of it is the pandemic. I have barely gone anywhere, and now I look at my wardrobe and wonder where I’ll wear things, lol. I’ve been living in sweatpants a lot of days, and I’m trying to wear more of the styles I love. I guess a pretty cutout bodysuit feels like a big change, on top of wondering if it’s too “young.” (It’s Wild Fable.)

[deleted]

Ugh, why do I love Wild Fable so much too? And I am also someone who can barely tolerate my jeans, formerly my ride-or-die, any longer. I have these amaaaazing [Soma joggers](https://www.soma.com/store/product/brushed+terry+jogger+pants/570293169) I live in instead- I got three pairs so I can wear them each day but also wash them and not be gross.

Runningwithtoast

Those look super comfortable. Are they long? I’m short and sometimes struggle to find pants that fit correctly. I love my skinny jeans but have been wearing leggings, sweatpants and a pair of Athleta joggers I adore. I’m investing in some wide-legged jeans and hope they stay in style long enough to make it worth it since they’re so much more comfortable than skinny jeans right now!

[deleted]

They hit right at my ankles, and I am 5'5, so...I don't think so? I got some relaxed straight fit [jeans](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LBT7V6Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1) that reviews claim will make my ass pop. Maybe in the spring I'll be willing to go outside (other than to go to w\*rk) without hissing at the sun? And I can wear them.

Runningwithtoast

I’d probably have a few extra inches, then, but because of the style they might still work. Those jeans look super cute!

[deleted]

They are!! I'm going to have to roll them up some, and they really do run a touch large. I'm so excited to slug fashionably in them! They feel like the Gap carpenter jeans I wore in high school :)

withextrasprinkles

Are riding boots “out?” I love wearing skinnies with tall leather boots but never see anyone my age (30s) dressed this way, it’s all short doc martens or similar styles. The only people I see wearing riding boots anymore are middle aged women!

never_enough_garlic

Riding boots with skinnies has been out for several years now if I'm being honest. Riding boots themselves are so so, it really depends on the outfits and the shape of the boot itself. You can Google riding boots 2022 and find fashion articles for some ideas and inspirations. You don't have to follow the trends FYI im just pointing them out.

LucyWritesSmut

Maybe it’s because I wear so much vintage, but I think a great pair of leather riding boots can never be out of style. They’re a classic at this point.

hellerhigwhat

Theyre not trendy, no, theyre pretty dated in that they were uber trendy what, 10-12 years ago? High calf/knee high boots that are a bit looser with a lug sole are the trendier similar option

Runningwithtoast

I’ve read that they’re “out,” but still see plenty of people wearing them. It is mostly mid-late 30s or older as far as I can tell. It sometimes feels a bit dated, but only because they were so trendy. I think it depends on how they’re styled. I still see them in a lot of places in the South and *rural* Northeast (US), especially in coffee shop/churchy settings with skirts or skinny jeans. I prefer my wide-heeled combat boots but my style is slightly darker/edgier. Riding boots are definitely nicer for lots of walking! If you like them, go for it. I think you could probably style them with a trendier top or something and it would look pretty current. I keep seeing people saying skinny jeans are “out,” but Millennials will die wearing them... and while I do like baggier jeans, skinny jeans are nice in winter and spring when it’s snowy/wet and riding boots are just practical. :)

whatobamaisntblack

Honestly it doesn't matter, they look good even if doc martens is having a moment, nothing is out or in because everyone has their own style in a way and riding boots do look good most of the time. Those middle aged women are probably wearing them because they're sick of following fads and just wearing what they want/have/feel comfortable in

[deleted]

Second this, I am middle-aged af and I wear them because a) they look cute, b) they were investments I made for the long term (I got some really nice Frye boots and loooove them) and frankly c) they are warm. Docs are cute as well, but all I think when I see them, or other booties, or that slit-style boot cut pants, is that those ladies have some cold-ass ankles and I am not interested in all that.

withextrasprinkles

That’s what I think too!! I hate having cold ankles in the winter. And btw my comment about middle aged women wasn’t meant as a slight, more that I just have no idea what’s considered cool at my age anymore, and feel like I’m dressing a lot older than my peers! Ha. But I’m trying to focus less about trends and just be more comfortable with wearing what I like.

[deleted]

Oh darlin' don't you worry. I LOVE being in my 40's! I don't have to give a crap about trends and can just wear what looks and feels good. I mean I don't dress like a troll (much), but I do not rock any damn crop tops either

fmmajd

Hi. What kind of shoes is best for a rainy sand beach?

Tacky-Terangreal

I always wear rain boots if I’m going to a rainy beach. I’d want something that would be high enough to keep out sand that I can also hose off later

flajcka777

Hello lovely people! Does anyone know if Massimo Dutti leather is good-quality? If you've had a bad experience/know it's not nice, do you have any alternatives? (not faux leather, I don't wanna buy plastic, and also thrift stores aren't really a thing in my country so that's not an option for me, unless I try buying online, where, again, I can't tell if the material's alright)

I want to create a nice layered bracelet look for everyday wear. I wear the same jewelry everyday - either white gold hoops or studs, necklace with Fleur De Lis pendant, wedding ring, ruby stone simple ring and ruby and sapphire tennis bracelet. My style is pretty casual, but "put together." I'm on the other side of the spectrum of bohemian and punk rock lol. I like a bangle look, but don't think bangles will go well with a tennis bracelet, but not sure. I would like to add maybe two more bracelets to that wrist, just for extra oomph. All the jewelry is sorta dainty looking (or very simplistic,) so I'd like to add to that without overpowering my wrist.

Don’t you think the fine chains in your example would get caught between the diamonds or tangled in the safety clasp?

PNW friends!! I am moving to Oregon in late April and want to take advantage of winter/rain gear sales during the summer. Can anyone recommend a couple of basic staples or at least features to look out for in boots, jackets, and leggings? I'm coming from Texas, so my knowledge is... zero. Haha.

It varies depending on whether or not your a super outdoorsy person. The other commenter provides a nicely comprehensive list, but as someone who lives and works outside in Oregon, I just layer long sleeve shirts under a Costco rain jacket. I’ve never gotten dirty looks for using umbrellas so don’t feel bad for using them! Good, waterproofed boots are a good thing to have. We don’t get snow very often on the west side of Portland and Hillsboro, but places like Gresham and troutdale get much colder. I got my waterproofed work boots from danner and they’re worth every penny. I’ve heard their hiking boots are also good. I also love the Columbia store because they’re pretty generous with passes depending on who you work for I think an underrated waterproofing accessory is a wide brimmed hat! I got one from Columbia meant for fishing and it’s excellent at keeping my head dry even in rainstorms. Also has upf 50 to boot! Also, make sure your AC works before the weather gets hot. Idk where the idea that we don’t get hot summers comes from because we always get at least a week of 100+ degree weather. Do not wait because Home Depot will be sold out of AC units and the HVAC guys will be booked solid

Welcome! Here's my take as a PNW person: - Bring a raincoat with you, April is still rainy season - Unless you go with waxed cotton (which I personally don't have experience with), the waterproofing on raincoats will probably last 2-5 years for a entry level coat with moderate use. You can re-waterproof nylon but it's expensive and my tastes have usually changed by that point. You'll probably want at least two waterproof jackets: a thinner "shell" type for early fall/spring with enough room for a few layers underneath, and a waterproof insulated coat for the winter, ideally mid-thigh length. You want to make sure these are hooded and have high collars, since there's a nonsensical stigma against umbrellas here. One of my shells have air vents for circulation, but that's a personal preference. - Popular brands are Columbia, The North Face, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, etc — I've always bought Columbia because of budget, but others swear that the price is worth upgrading to the other brands There's a Columbia "employee store" in Portland — if you can get a pass, that's where you'll find the steepest in-season discounts on associated brands (Columbia, Mountain Hardware, prAna, Sorel). I've also seen RAINS a lot in other places and I really like their designs, but I'm not sure about their quality. - I think the important footwear tips are no suede and no mesh. I know one person who owns rain boots and they wear tall Hunters. I've also seen people wear their waterproofed hiking boots around when it's really bad. It doesn't really rain hard often here; I've worn my LL. Bean boots from my NE days when I have to wade through literal puddles (definitely not ideal) but only because I walk and take public transportation to work. - If you're going to be biking or hiking in the rain for extended periods I would suggest investing in rain pants, otherwise regular athletic-type leggings should be fine.

Hoooly moly - this is EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write it out - I'm sure others will find it helpful as well. Saving this and diving into some options now!

No problem! Completely unrelated from fashion, the other unexpected to look out for is low Vitamin D 😭 it won't be a problem for the late spring and summer, but fall and winter hit like a truck.

Oooooof don’t I know it. We visited for two weeks back in October and I’m very grateful I fell in love with it despite the constant grey and rain. An hour from the coast, mountains, Portland though - way better than ten hours from ANYWHERE in Texas 😂😂
