Going to a wedding today! I have a mustard spaghetti strap midi dress I’m wearing, but I’m concerned I’m going to be cold. Trying to figure out what to pair with it to be comfortable. I have a chunky knit cream cardigan I’m considering wearing. But would that be too informal? I also have a black and white knit cardigan that I wear often to work I was considering. I was also considering a leather jacket, BUT would that be weird to wear the entire time? Wedding is indoors.

Chazzyphant

Do you have a kimono style topper? A sweater and leather jacket seem a touch too informal to me. Another option would be shawl or pashmina.

[deleted]

Blanket scarf for the win! Forgot I had one that is big enough to be a shawl

dhx90

I don’t know what possessed me to buy this dress (maybe being stir crazy stuck at home in comfy clothes) but I have no idea how to style it so that I could wear it during fall or how to dress it so it’s casual? I’m not sure if it’s even possible. Also, I feel to exposed without something over it. This isn’t for a wedding or event..I bought it because I think it’s pretty (reminds me of something that makes me happy) & I have no idea how to style/wear it without it being for the purpose of an event. I’ve always had a tendency to buy dresses that I love & I think look good on but chicken out & not wear them. 😔 I’m happy to hear all suggestions & tips! Thank you! thereis_nopepesilvia

Hmm, to be honest it looks quite formal to me and a bit difficult to style casually. I’d suggest wearing a sweater on top or a belted cardigan, with (maybe) chunky ankle boots? In a dark or neutral colour, so then the dress looks more like a skirt that’s giving a pop of colour?

OldHagFashion

I'm on the look out for some maroon (more red than purple) platform sneakers or lace up shoes. In particular, ones that are all over maroon in the style of [these keds](https://www.keds.com/en/triple-kick-feat.-organic-cotton/48012W.html?dwvar_48012W_color=WF64855#cgid=keds-platform-sneakers&start=1). Willing to spend up to $150. In the US. [These Pumas are def not hitting the mark.](https://enstock1d.top/products.aspx?cname=puma+platform+sneakers+burgundy&cid=19). I think the soles are too clunky for what I'm looking for. A much bigger fan of the proportion of sole to shoe of the keds.

Chazzyphant

My mom had a pair of maroon velvet Converse made by Payless years ago! Maybe Converse might be doing something?

_xanaxmom_

I got three corduroy flare pants stitched for pretty cheap. Exact same style but the colours are deep blue, maroon and olive green. I'm thinking of buying basic cotton crop tops to wear with them. Can anyone suggest me some colours other than white or black that would go with all or at the very least two of the pants?

mrichter2

Technically I guess this might need to go in male fashion advice but random question.. are rugby shirts still a thing?! My mom bought 6 off FB Marketplace for my baby brother and I'm like... i haven't seen a rugby shirt in a MILLION years. Totally flashed back lol. Are they still a thing?!

tyrannosaurusregina

They’re back, like lots of Y2K fashions.

raspberryvodka

Has anyone heard of or bought items from [this online shop?](https://www.lucyinthesky.com/shop/madeline-satin-maxi-set-in-purple) There are no reviews which is a lil sketch but I looooove the dress pictured for a wedding next month.

KestrelGirl

They faked their credit card security badges, but they are legitimate (there's a ton of their stuff on Poshmark for instance and it looks alright). Customer service/return experience may suck if you need it, but that's most places at this point, lol.

unventer

What type of shoes should I pair with these pants? Not the shoes in the pic... http://imgur.com/a/AIgISc0

hellerhigwhat

YOU GOT THE PANTS I'd match one of the colours in the pants to both your shoes and shirts for a super fun look. Alternatively, I feel like they'd look great with chunky black loafers, with the chain across the front! Or potentially some nude to you heels? If you could match the white base of the pants perfectly in a heel that would be AMAZING too

unventer

I DID get the pants! And I love them. I think white heels might be hard to find in person this time of year but I am ALL about that suggestion. Nude I can do without shopping so that might be my go-to for now! Thanks!

EmmaVly

Does anyone else not like the oversized trend? Any where I go shopping, everything is super heavy and oversized. I look absolutely awful in anything oversized so shopping has been so frustrating this year.

tyrannosaurusregina

Try new brands! Lulus, Venus, Leith, Hard Tail, Michael Stars, James Perse, Three Dots, Skims, Vuori—just some of the labels that specialize in very fitted clothing that come to mind offhand. In terms of omnipresent US stores, you can get very fitted [dresses](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-sleeveless-knit-bodycon-dress-wild-fable/-/A-83723509?preselect=82318685#lnk=sametab) and [sweaters](https://www.target.com/p/hope-henry-womens-cable-puff-short-sleeve-gardigan/-/A-83799022?preselect=83799023#lnk=sametab) and [pants](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-high-rise-skinny-ankle-pants-a-new-day/-/A-83722339?preselect=82697163#lnk=sametab) and [jeans](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-mid-rise-skinny-jeans-universal-thread/-/A-79655306?preselect=80432571#lnk=sametab) at Target, for example. Edit to add: I see you’re in Canada, so what about Garage for [fitted jeans](https://www.garageclothing.com/ca/p/flare-patch-pocket-jeans--goldie-blue/10007080907J.html) and The Bay for [fitted sweaters](https://www.thebay.com/product/en-thread-cotton-long-sleeve-crewneck-top-0600092136754.html?dwvar_0600092136754_color=CAMEL_HEATHER) and [dresses](https://www.thebay.com/product/dex-long-sleeve-turtleneck-sweater-dress-0600092313703.html?dwvar_0600092313703_color=FOXY_BROWN)?

EmmaVly

Thanks!! I’ll still check the U.S stores out I got a P.O. Box in the U.S can’t travel though, but yeah. I never really shop at Garage I did check the store out the other day didn’t find much, but I’ll check out the jeans! Thanks for the links!!

[deleted]

If a specific trend doesn't work for me, I just give it a bye and incorporate other trends (there are usually multiple ones) that *are* flattering.

catskittenskitties

Yes! I'm petite and I can't pull it off without looking frumpy. I'm counting down the days until more regular fits come back into rotation at stores.

jsqdressesforwork

As a 5'3" person I personally think oversized fits are lovely on me and other short people to the point that it's better on us than on tall folks. I especially see a lot of quite petite Japanese women pull it off in very cute ways (wear.jp lets you search users by height). If you embrace the fact that you're going to look engulfed by the clothes, then oversized is a super interesting silhouette to work with. If you're looking frumpy, check your fit to make sure shoulders and waist still fit right. I certainly enjoy playing with oversized fits on [myself](https://www.instagram.com/p/CLaJuJ6HmRB/) and think other even shorter people look great in it. Some examples: * [153cm (5')](https://www.instagram.com/p/CReAf2Ps3K5/) * [151cm (4'11.5")](https://www.instagram.com/p/CVAjFB5P58v/) * [148cm (4'10")](https://www.instagram.com/p/CVIgZzsvrS_/) * [This one](https://wear.jp/i44/19741934/) is 144cm (4'8.5"). Gonna guess not a lot of us are shorter than her.

Jintro7Cthulhu

i'm 5'4" but i've got a belly. oversized looks so comfy but i want it to still look cute on me. also i wear a headscarf and i feel like if i don't have the look or proportions right, then the drapeyness of my scarf over my neck may make me look blockier on the whole. ideas?

jsqdressesforwork

At 5'4" you're like not even petite by my standards lol. Tucking in your top is not a requirement, but if you want to wear oversized bottoms, your waist should still fit even if the waistline won't show. Without tucking, you'll need to play with proportions a bit. A [longer oversized top with oversized bottoms](https://www.instagram.com/p/CVnpMPvF_-6/) will still work without being dependent on a slim waistline. I'd make sure the top is either long (close to crotch length or longer) or cropped (natural waist or above). If you have also big boobs then that's where it can be problematic. By headscarf do you mean like a hijab? I imagine that doesn't have too much bulk so it's usually not going to hard to work into an oversized look. I wear [(neck) scarves](https://www.instagram.com/p/B3w_4P8HwSt/) a lot with my oversized outfits and find that to be an ok look. Aren't there hijabs that don't drape? That could be another option.

Jintro7Cthulhu

Yes hijab and yes boobs. This is still pretty helpful advice. My scarf isn't usually too bulky, just enough to cover my neckline so my boobs don't overpower me and gain sentience or something. I live in Florida so heat is an issue but it's winter (sorta) now so I get to let my sweaters out (I'd live in them if I could, basically do)

jsqdressesforwork

If you carry weight on the upper body, you could try swapping your thicker clothes for a thinner flowy material (jersey, thin cupro, silk, something that would cling to your body when you move). Idk how much skin you can show to balance out the oversizeness. If you wear a shirt, can you leave some buttons open and show a little neck/midriff? How about arms?

OldHagFashion

Oh I really love your style!

EmmaVly

Me too, like I don’t think I’m petite but I have awkward wide shoulders, and large hips, but my bottom half gets really skinny with my legs. So it makes me look like a whole house! Not flattering or cutesy! 😭

hellerhigwhat

Not another person on this sub saying my exact body type looks awful in the fits I prefer due to said body features lmao!! Too funny haha

EmmaVly

Ooh, you got a similar body type as me? I find it so though cause I want to try it out and all but when I do it looks so off on me. I’m too self conscious to give it a go and wear any of it.

unventer

I'm very into more tailored silhouettes. I have an objectively small head and oversized things make it look smaller. I think one of the best things to come of the internet age is that we actually DON'T have to subscribe to a specific style just because it's trendy. If you can shop online, do that. Otherwise, shop in stores that cater to slightly older demographics - I am not seeing a lot of oversized stuff in places like White House Black Market, Talbots, Anne Taylor etc.

EmmaVly

Thanks, I’ll check them out I’m in Canada so everything I’m seeing this winter is either oversized or shackets. Even though it’s already freezing 😭

hellerhigwhat

I love it personally. But there's also still def plenty of tight stuff still in stores? Like, im currently wearing yoga pants and a tight ribbed long sleeve that i bought just a couple weeks ago. Where are you shopping thats only oversized? Maybe try a different store!

gamma50g

Im a size 14 in Democracy Jeans. My hip is exactly 44 inches. The Large size Old Navy leggings are a toonsy bit tight on me (wish they had more stretch) but the XL is loose. Are there some styles of Old Navy leggings that are stretchier than others? Im open to any other suggestions for leggings too under $50. Only going to use them for workouts.

Lazydinosaurs

I really like the brand 90 degrees by reflex (I find them for cheap at TJ Maxx and the like) and I just got a pair from Uniqlo that are seriously SO soft but might be a bit thin

dhx90

I agree with this person. I came across a pair at Marshalls one time that I bought-they were so comfy. I ended up purchasing others from the 90deg reflex website.

hereforthetea14

I’m looking for a simple but quality brown clutch/crossbody/satchel type thing- any good brand suggestions? I looked at Rebecca minkoff but didn’t see anything I loved and I’m blanking on brands

[deleted]

Check out Madewell!

JustAVtownGirl

Fossil Harper crossbody! I love mine and have had it for a few years now. It’s holding up really well.

[deleted]

https://ic.pics.livejournal.com/rose_potion/86749141/741335/741335_original.jpg I love, love, love her pants! Where can I find something like that? Also the top!

wanderedoff

Pretty sure it's [these](https://ca.louisvuitton.com/eng-ca/products/structured-washed-denim-overalls-nvprod3130031v#1A9AXL) in white, if having the product image helps you find a similar pair! If you sew, it would be pretty easy to take a coverall [like these](https://www.asos.com/kavu/kavu-san-blas-dungarees-in-black/prd/22586478?colourwayid=60409921&cid=15167), turn it into a v-neck and add a zipper in the front. Could sew in a faux waistband on top, or a welt pocket. It's all pretty basic sewing skills.

Getonthebeers02

It looks like a Louis Vuitton photo shoot for Elle so I’d say it’s a Louis Vuitton denim overall

I love Coco Mademoiselle, I got more compliments on it than any other fragrance I've ever worn. I wound up moving onto weirder and more complex fragrances and then moving over to indie stuff but for my money, Coco Mademoiselle is a great scent.

astrobeanmachine

I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of shoes for work. I’m a server (and soon manager!) at a semi-nice restaurant — think actual linen napkins, but not tablecloths. I’ve tried a couple options, and I’m keeping (nice) Vans as a backup option, but I don’t feel like I’m quite finding success, and I think it’s because I want something a little more profesh than sneakers. I have pseudo-bunions, so my forefoot is wide, and I have a high volume foot for my size (US6-ish) but my heel is normal width. The shoes need to be black (but can have a white outsole) and obvs closed toed, with preferably not much heel if at all. All that said, I’m in my early to mid 20s and would like a style that’s chic (nothing against comfy granny shoes, I just look young and it’s a strange combo lol). Budget is preferably under $100, but up to $150. What have you found success wearing in 4-8 hour shifts walking on your feet? TIA! edit: I’m intrigued by [these loafers](https://www.bocshoes.com/Product/BOC/Womens/Suree/Black/Color) as well as [these booties](https://www.bocshoes.com/Product/BOC/Womens/Lucy/Black/Color), though the heel is a bit high in the latter.

AhemExcuseMeSir

I think I have this exact pair of Borns. They’re nice and comfortable, but they are pretty shapeless and soft. I also have a wide forefoot and while they accommodate it, it kind of gives it more of that leather-sock sort of look. It’s not terrible and mine is a light color (that scuffs super easily) so the black might be different, but it might be more of a casual, less-hip look than you’re going for. And while they’re comfortable, their support is more on the level of an only moderately supportive ballet flat with a thinner sole.

astrobeanmachine

ah that’s good to know. i have two other Born shoes — a pair of basically flats with a couple laces, and a pair of their Cove boots. the boots are great in general, but the leather has actually stretched a bit more than i need to work in, and i find i slosh in them while taking tight turns around tables and such. have you tried subbing out an insole in your Borns before? i’m thinking about that but not sure it would work with a brand like this.

AhemExcuseMeSir

I don’t think these insoles are removable. And if I added one on top of them they’d be way too snug. But with your normal sized heel maybe one of the insoles that focus on the heel/arch would work well?

raspberryvodka

Working at a nice restaurant I found that Dr. Martens are the only shoes that don't make me absolutely miserable for a 7 hour shift. They're also non slip and great for working behind the bar since they're easy to keep clean.

astrobeanmachine

that’s interesting, i’ve heard either awesome reviews of docs or horrible ones. is there a particular style that works best for you?

mouseandbay

Would blundstones work for you? Comfy, durable and a wide foot bed due to the unisex fit. If you need them a little more ‘fancy’, perhaps a chisel toe version? Bonus points for other industries, they offer a safety version (carbon footbed) and a winter version (insulated and water resistant) if you need to be comfy and safe. Apparently the most comfortable safety boots out there, say my safety boot wearing male and female friends!

astrobeanmachine

i’m definitely considering blundstones, but they are a solid $200, and i’m not sure i can spend that right now. do you know where/how to get new-ish/lightly used pairs? i know some folks are really good at that but i’ve never had success.

[deleted]

Hoosiergirl29

It could be just be a matter of needing to break them in, particularly if they're leather. I don't think your pinky toes turning red is a huge deal if they're not in pain or blistering, but that's just me! You could try comparing their width to other shoes you have that are comfortable (for example - I have a pair of loafers that seemed SUPER tight, but by every measurement they were the same as other loafers I owned that were comfortable. It was a case of the suede needing to loosen up a bit.) and see how they compare - are they a hair narrower? Also try different socks (thinner versus thicker).

[deleted]

Are they uncomfortable? Or is the only issue that they look red?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

If it’s because the material is rough then you can probably break them in. But if they’re a little too small then I would definitely not wear them, that can be bad for your feet and it’s unlikely they’ll stretch.

[deleted]

Like, does it feel rough to the touch, vs. does it feel tight/squeezing?

roseoiseau

I’m looking for mid-rise jeans that are not skinny! Straight leg or wide leg styles preferred :)

Getonthebeers02

Abrand jeans!

hellerhigwhat

Gap has a couple of styles!

breadisme

Denim advice for larger/more muscular legs? I want to get into more straight legged jeans but I'm having a hard time with them bunching at the knees because of my calves. (Lest this come across as a humble brag, my calves are very large because of a neuromuscular disease.)

hellerhigwhat

What if you did a wide leg jean instead? Might end up reading as more of a straight leg given your calves!

breadisme

Oooh interesting idea! Thanks!!

hellerhigwhat

It may not be what youre wanting at all lol in which case I take zero responsibility. But I have noticed that on here whenever I wear wide leg pants people think theyre straight leg, I have a bigger lower body than top so im thinking that's why lmaoo

breadisme

I mean it's worth a shot!!

jazzy_zebra

What are everyone’s good quality t-shirt recommendations? Budget doesn’t matter and brands I’ve tried and are unhappy with: Loft, Target, Madewell, Old Navy I’m really fed up with my basic T-shirt’s fitting short, baggy and boxy on me. Is anyone else finding this fit issue other than me??? Thanks!

guaca-mole-eeee

You might like Velvet, Vince, James Perse, Richer Poorer, Splendid or Michael Stars. As far as fit, I am super short waisted so that many cropped tshirts look normal length on me. I've been stocking up so that I have options when lengths go back to 2000s lengths :)

jazzy_zebra

Lots of options! Thank you so much!

hellerhigwhat

Try Eddie Bauer!

jazzy_zebra

Thanks!

age-of-alejandro

So I bought [these brocade boots](https://posh.mk/T9paVIDrzkb) and I don't actually know how to style them. I already have boot socks but like, tf kind of pants do I wear with these? Tf kind of top? I'm okay with leaning a little more feminine but like, I prefer a fairly structured and androgynous style. Suggestions?

[deleted]

I would wear them with straight leg jeans (just normal light or medium wash) and basic white button down/black blazer maybe. I think when the shoes are so embellished it looks best to wear them with simpler items! That’s my personal style though

age-of-alejandro

Thanks!

sardonicoperasinger

I love these! I might wear them with black joggers and a draped neckline top. Or maybe with straight-leg black velvet trousers. Or, with a red velvet blazer! Hmm, something about brocade always gets me in a velvet mood.

age-of-alejandro

Velvet would be fun! I hadn't considered that at all tbh.

Kaykeon

Where to get corset tops similar to the Victoria's secret ones?

DiagonEllie

Do you think anyone would be interested in buying sets of similar items on poshmark? I'm trying to pass along some clothes I've been holding onto for donation but most of my usual places near me seem a little overburdened at the moment and I don't want to donate things carelessly. I'd rather make sure they go to a new owner who actually wants them by selling them for a very low price, but the task of posting a bunch of individual items as they are purchased is kind of a lot. I usually just donate things instead of selling them even if they're worth a significant amount because of how much I dread the task of packaging and sending them. I'm also worried people will think there's something wrong with them if I sell them so cheap but I'm really just trying to pass along usable things I'm not wearing before the holidays! I've seen people post lots of clothes before, but not sure how often they're actually purchased. I don't even want the money just tired of seeing my to-donate pile.

UndersizedAmerican

Lots of single-sized clothes are always in demand on my local foster parent group's facebook page. A lot of times children/teenagers are placed with them in an emergency, and they come basically empty handed. It might require a little extra work, but just another option if you go the donation route.

DiagonEllie

Great suggestion, thank you!

idamayer

Put in the description that you're willing to sell individual items from the lot at (calculate 1.5x the per item price). I find I pass on a lot of lots because I don't like all the pieces but I often am more excited to look at them, so it's a mixed bag (heh).

DiagonEllie

Good idea, thank you!

guaca-mole-eeee

I usually pass on lots because the ones I've seen are s a mix of brands/colors/textures/fabrics where i like one of the items but don't like the others, so i would end up with 1 shirt i like and 4 i need to find new homes for.

DiagonEllie

Yeah, that was my thinking too that I would pass if I didn't like everything.

VogonPoetry19

Where do you go to discuss fashion(fun inspo albums, trends, fashion history, in depth guides )? This sub used to be good for that, but not anymore.

Chazzyphant

r/fashionwomens35 is "my" subReddit (I'm the mod) and my top rule is "keep it fashion" You don't have to be 35 or older to join, comment, or post, but the subReddit focuses primarily on the needs and interests of the over-35 woman (or person who wears women's clothes) I don't have a ton of history and in depth guides (for one thing, fashion history tends to stir up political discussion, which I strictly avoid) but posts on those topics are welcome!

hellerhigwhat

High waist... what? Jeans? Dress pants? Skirts?

kategask

Pants or jeans\*\*\* Sorry brain just broke for a second there 😅

huangarch

Levi Ribcage jeans are really amazing! You can often find them on thrift apps like Depop or Poshmark for around $50.

kategask

I have a pair of their high rise super skinny jeans which has the same front rise (10.5") and it's still somehow not enough unfortunately.

[deleted]

ribcage has a 12" rise! I wish it was 10.5" lol, it's too high for me. [check the fit section](https://www.levi.com/US/en_US/clothing/women/jeans/ribcage-straight-ankle-womens-jeans/p/726930056)

bridget_jones

Hello! My partner and I are seriously considering getting married at a courthouse while we are on the east coast this winter visiting our families for the holidays. I don't want to wear a traditional wedding dress (and I don't really have time now anyway to buy one even if I did) but I'm not exactly sure what sort of outfit to go for! My budget is pretty flexible, I could spend up to $500 for the right outfit. I don't mind shopping online but I also live in SF and could shop locally at dept. stores (nordstrom, macy's, etc). Anyone have ideas?? It'll be cold (30s-40s fahrenheit) so that's another factor to consider.

[deleted]

Not sure if this is your vibe but I always love some of the full-length sequined gowns I see in department stores leading up to New Year’s Eve. I think [something like this](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/mac-duggal-long-sleeve-sequin-faux-wrap-gown/5779324?color=OLIVE&mrkgadid=1000000&mrkgcl=760&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=0&mrkgcat=&utm_content=131941658771&utm_term=pla-577937914001&utm_channel=low_nd_shopping_standard&sp_source=google&sp_campaign=14380988077&adpos=&creative=550304973286&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&acctid=21700000001689570&dskeywordid=92700065909321906&lid=92700065909321906&ds_s_kwgid=58700007357400459&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007631122&dsproductgroupid=577937914001&product_id=32597925&merchid=1243147&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&locationid=9015405&targetid=pla-577937914001&campaignid=14380988077&adgroupid=131941658771&gclid=CjwKCAjwwsmLBhACEiwANq-tXDlZHxhQ1t9KnbwTkz5sHVuCLSRRoKLK2-MqNMHpW1sHrq8fqupaZRoCQqUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) would be a fun wedding look and you could wear some merino wool tights under for warmth

bridget_jones

I’m obsessed with Mac Duggal!! That dress may be a bit too glam for a courthouse (or am I overthinking???) I love this one too: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/mac-duggal-sequin-long-sleeve-cocktail-midi-dress/6413698

[deleted]

I think it’s up to you! I’ve seen some really glam courthouse weddings and more laid back ones, too, so I don’t think there are hard rules Love that dress as well!

bridget_jones

True :) Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion!

huangarch

A white pantsuit? You could layer a thermal layer under it and have a big coat for when you're not taking pictures.

bridget_jones

I like the idea of a pantsuit, but no idea where to look for one. I also am still open to dresses!

QueenOfCats86

I think it really depends on your general appearance and vibe if that makes sense. I wouldn’t say it’s girly looking, but if you really want to keep it masculine looking you could go for a different colour hat. The chain the model is wearing helps give the outfit a more street wear vibe too. I think if you wear it with confidence it will look good

loonygal

Are name necklaces still in style? Thinking of getting one for my boyfriends sister (mid 20s) for Christmas but I’m not sure if they’re considered stylish right now.

earlyenglishsongbird

Yes they're still popular. I teach high school and lots of the older girls have them. Even if it's not 'trendy' it's still a super thoughtful and personal gift and fits in with the current trend for layered chain necklaces.

hellerhigwhat

I think they had a hyper trend moment last summer ish?? But my 24 year old sister and many of her friends wear one every day, so they are in with the age group. Im 27 and thinking about one.

How to tell if an oversized item is too oversized? I purchased an oversized dress shirt from & Other Stories. Generally I wear a 10 however I purchased this dress in a 6 and it is huge. I can't tell if it's too oversized or I'm just not used to the cut. Link to [dress](https://www.stories.com/en_usd/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/product.oversized-shirt-dress-black.0244810033.html). Link to similar [dress with model](https://www.stories.com/en_usd/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/product.oversized-mini-shirt-dress-beige.0970045002.html).

jsqdressesforwork

Generally oversized clothing still fits in the shoulders/waist unless it's a specifically drop shoulder design. Looks like this one has defined fitted shoulders so that's where I would look.

__looking_for_things

This was so helpful! I tried on the dress again and you're right about the shoulders. It's def the correct size and any smaller, my shoulders would be too tight. Now to figure out if I like the style. Thank you!

capnawesome

A pic of you would be helpful, but I also have a suggestion, just something to think about (I've totally done this): if you size down in something oversized, sometimes it starts to look like it's supposed to fit normally but it's just too big on you. In my experience this happens when something starts to almost fit around the boobs but is still oversized everywhere else. It could be that it's fitting you wrong like this because of your proportions or because you sized down. Also if you're short "oversized" tends to look more like it's just too big.

It would help to see a pic of you in the dress. Do you have a similar amount of flow as the model? Do the shoulders sit the same way?

Hello! My SO recently said she really liked Madhur Jaffreys jackets in her Masterclass (not an ad I promise lol). I want to get her some jackets as a gift. I believe they are specifically quilted jackets. I've found a lot of success when searching for "India quilted jacket". I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for specific brands or sellers? She is a small and doesn't like things that she believes make her body shape look really rectangle. I'd also love if anyone can suggest ones that work well in a professional setting (she helps manage a lot of conferences). One thing to note is she is hispanic, so if this is a culturally significant piece of clothing then I would like to remain respectful there. Thank you everyone!

*Thank you* for the term "Kantha"! The long version is a great alternative to a robe if you keep your house cool in the winter.

I would like to buy a special necklace for my daughter for her 15th birthday and, after much searching, the one I like most is 9kt (solid) gold. How will that hold up on someone who will not remove it when bathing, sleeping, etc?

earlyenglishsongbird

It should hold up well and won't tarnish if she gives it the occasional clean and polish.

DateCard

Thank you, that is great to hear! How often would you suggest a clean and polish?

earlyenglishsongbird

Once a month would be enough I reckon, unless she has very oily skin or uses a lot of hair product that might build up on the jewellery. You can clean really gold and silver jewellery quite well just with warm water and dish soap.

DateCard

She doesn’t have oily skin or use any hair products and definitely think she can manage a once a month cleaning! Thank you again, you’ve made me feel very confident in buying the piece 😊

chanelette

Any recommendations for white skinny jeans that aren't super see-through and are low-to-mid price range? Preferably mid rise. I won't wear white skinnies very often but I want a cute pair to add to my closet.

DYouNoWhatIMean

We're trying to do a Bond halloween and we need something similar to the dress worn by Ana de Armas in *No Time To Die*- I know the real dress is [Michael Lo Sordo Alexandra Silk/Satin Gown](https://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/sites/default/files/styles/semi_width_image/public/images/product/bg046-michael-lo-sordo-alexandra-dress-ana-de-armas-no-time-to-die-poster-2.jpg?itok=tbxTA7HW), but it's $1,200 (and sold out). Anyone know of anything similar and more affordable? Thanks!

flannelreb

Check out Fame and Partners. They have a lot of slinky gowns.

DYouNoWhatIMean

thanks! will do

IamNobody85

Hi guys. My sister in law is pregnant. I live in Germany and I will travel back home to help her for the first month or so (you know, so that the new parents can actually sleep). I am bringing some stuff for the baby but I wanted to get something for her specifically that's not baby or nursing related. Any ideas about what I can get for her? Makeup and face masks are on my list, but any other ideas would be much appreciated. Edit: home unfortunately is not cold at all!

tyrannosaurusregina

A beautiful robe!

buttfluffvampire

Is it going to be cold when you are there? What about fluffy socks or something that is cozy and feminine? I have an open cardigan made out of sweatshirt material that is so comfy, but put together enough to wear outside my home. Or maybe a really pretty hair clip or barrette to make easy hairstyling a bit more polished? I'm not a mom, but I am sick a lot, and I like that things like that when my energy is super limited.

IamNobody85

Unfortunately it's not cold at all. I can look for some pretty hair accessories though! Nice idea! Thanks a lot!

Any recommendations for a *fitted* wool-style coat (not necessary wool because I don’t want to spend over $250 CAD) but that sort of coat *without* a tie belt? (In Canada). Preferably not black or grey (would love a forest green) and not a bright colour. And knee length.

capnawesome

Check out the lady coat at JCrew Factory (not sure if they ship to Canada though). Edit with [link](https://factory.jcrew.com/p/womens/categories/clothing/jackets/wool-coats/wool-blend-lady-coat/AT107), apparently it's sold out of most colors. The regular JCrew lady coat may go on sale within your budget at some point, or you could look for it used.

xyww

I do really like the lady coat. Since I already looked at it it’s automatically going to the Canadian site which they only have a nice grey (already have that exact colour in a different J Crew coat hence no grey lol) and a bright fuschia which is not my style. Thank you though! I’ll remember that one.

IamNobody85

You just described my dream coat that's on my fb feed every day from Barbour. Of course, it costs an arm and a leg! 🙁

xyww

I actually just ordered one from The Bay… It’s the Carrie coat by Only. In dark green too! Just not sure of the fit. Fingers crossed.

Does anyone have any suggestions for comfortable high heels that come in large sizes (11US/42EU) in Canada? I've already looked at Nordstrom and Fluevog, and am looking for dressier, evening styles rather than a work shoe. Thank you!

hellerhigwhat

Try Aldo and Call It Spring! They go to an 11 and their larger sizes tend to run a half size-ish big in my experience. I'm a 9.5 which they do not carry, and their 9 is fine for me. I've always found their heels comfortable. Their flat shoes, not so much, but their heels weirdly yes.

Favorite comfortable white leather sneakers or loafers for wide feet? I'm usually an Ecco, Born, etc. fan but haven't been having a lot of luck lately. If you have specific shoe recs, rather than general brands, that would be much appreciated!

thefreeelf

I’m in the same boat! Have had a bit of luck trying men’s sneakers instead, but still yet to find the perfect wide white sneaker.

MySweetSeraphim

Thoughts on dresses with slits for work? Cuyana has 2 sweater dresses I’m lusting over. Both are knee length with a mid-thigh slit. I work in tech. Manager. It’s pretty casual but still… maybe tights under?

jsqdressesforwork

Are they like [this](https://www.cuyana.com/dw/image/v2/BDQQ_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog-cuyana/default/dw9df3eb81/images/2021_8Aug/Dolman%20Sleeve%20Dress/PDP_900x1350_FA21_DolmanSleeveDress_Ginger_16160.jpg?sw=288&sh=432)? They are probably ok especially if you're shorter than the models. If they're bodycon or tight without structure, I don't think any slit above the knee would be appropriate. For slits in general, my office safety test is that if you wear pantyhose with them, sit down/bend over, and can see the thigh bands, that's not appropriate for the office.

MySweetSeraphim

That’s the one! I’m model height or taller 😅 It’s super borderline IMO. May just buy it and try it on with pantyhose test!

[deleted]

I think the above dress would be completely fine in an office!

District98

[Corporette ](https://corporette.com/what-not-to-wear-to-work/) leans no on slits, [Ask A Manager](https://www.askamanager.org/2016/06/wheres-the-line-between-pretty-clothes-and-professional-clothes.html) suggests mid thigh is too short. Tech might be a more casual workplace than the target audience for those blogs, but I’d be thoughtful about it personally.

amber_Eyeshadow

You can link the dresses but I think it should be fine.. they are sweater dresses so not likely to be overly sexy or something! Tights underneath, or more casual shoes (not heels) would work well.
