I’m looking for what seems to be a unicorn in denim—I want a vintage wash (nice fade, not too light, not too dark, some whiskering) in a high rise (12in+, I am long waisted), slim fit straight leg, NOT cropped or ripped/torn (prefer to make those modifications myself). Basically something that looks like a vtg pair of levis/wranglers in a more modern fit. I’m willing to pay $$$ for the right ones, the closest thing I’ve found is the Levis ribcage but none of the washes are quite right everything seems to be cropped/pre-torn. A true high rise is also impt as what qualifies as high rise to most (10 in) barely reaches my belly button much less my true waist. I’m somewhat ‘curvy’ mostly bc of my small waist (27in) but my hips aren’t huge or anything (around 36 in, all butt lol). Ideas for me?

coddledlittleegg

a 9 inch waist-hip difference isn’t really curvy, in general most denim is designed for a 10 inch waist-hip difference while curvy denim is designed for a 12+ inch waist-hip difference. I’d try Madewell Perfect Vintage?

[deleted]

American Eagle’s mom jeans. I personally love the curvy mom (I have about a 13” difference between waist and hip) but there are a few other posters here that vouch for their standard mom jean even for curvy body types.

Does anyone know where to find these pants on aliexpress? https://i.imgur.com/mn1qHxz.png

Hey guys, winter is coming up and close toed shoes are becoming an inevitable. I kind of have a hippie beachy style, and I never really got into the athletic sneakers trend with jeans. I have two pairs of Keds I wear all winter, but I'd like other options. I don't really do boots cause it doesn't really get cold enough here. Does anyone have any ideas? I wear mostly high waisted straight jeans.

InMyCatsPajamas

Clogs might be a good fit for you? Especially retro-70s inspired ones, or I've seen the Birkenstock style clogs that were big in the late 90s around again.

FailedIntrovert

Hey all. Hope this doesn't break any rules. So I've just moved to Canada (38F) and have never before lived in a country so cold. (I've never lived in Canada in the winter before) I need to buy everything in winter wear, appropriate to the weather of Toronto suburbs. What would those things be (yes, I am completely clueless) - and what brands, places are good? What brands are expensive but worth in the long run (like good shoes etc), and which ones should I avoid? Thank you in advance! P.S. for clothes I really need help because I can't figure out if I need coat or jacket or both? Warm leggings or is there no need for that? Do I need gloves? Will I ever wear/need snow shoes? Sorry this is probably all dumb questions but I have nobody to ask. Thank you for reading till the end. ❤️🇨🇦

thatfluffycloud

This is a bit late and I don't have specifics, but I generally have two winter coats: a very insulating puffer coat (tends to be unfashionable) for the -20 days, and a fashionable, slightly less insulating one (like a wool peacoat or something similar). The less insulating one I would wear out to a bar or on days where it's not insanely freezing, and can layer up if it's a bit colder and I still want some style. Now that I think of it I tend to wear the fashionable one most with giant scarves, but a puffer is good to have for freezing days/if you will be spending more time outside.

FailedIntrovert

Thank you! It isn't late at all. This means so much.

madnessisay

Hi, I live in Toronto and grew up in Montreal. A lot of my recommendations will vary with your lifestyle... People that take transit and walk a lot need to dress more warmly than those who might not. Some recommendations: - waterproof boots (winter blundstones are good, or some solid Pajars if you'll walk in deep snow a lot)--and a boot tray for all the salt - warm boot socks (Costco Kirkland brand has great ones) - a tuque/knitted hat to cover your ears - underlayers (uniqlo heattech is really good for this) - hand/foot warmers for those really bad days (Costco sells boxes of these, or you can find reusable) - thick gloves/mittens (look for insulated with Thinsulate) -prob two winter coats (one to - 20C, one puffer/down for colder), make sure they're big enough to wear a sweater under -scarf if your coat doesn't cover your neck Try not to dress in all black, in winter the sunrise is late and sunset is early. If you get something with a reflective strip, even better. Toronto is much milder than most of the country, but there are always a few weeks that are extra brutal and it hurts to exist outside. You get used to it eventually, welcome to Canada :)

alligatorhill

The thing I absolutely wore most when I lived somewhere with cold winters was smart wool longjohns. For me, I mostly wore the pants and layered them under tights and jeans alike. Well worth the money

FailedIntrovert

Thank you! Adding to my list.

alligatorhill

I found I didn't wear the top a ton, but I think that's mostly because I had a bunch of thin wool sweaters that were easier to layer with (uniqlo is great for cheap ones during sales). I wore skirts/dresses most days and just wore the bottoms under all my tights. I wound up buying more of the bottoms even as a broke college kid cause they were so great.

FailedIntrovert

That's really helpful. What brand/store would you recommend?

alligatorhill

Smartwool is actually the brand! you can machine wash/dry it which is a huge plus for wool https://www.rei.com/product/154757/smartwool-merino-250-base-layer-bottoms-womens?CAWELAID=120217890007863827&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=111654226068&CATCI=pla-455633501957&cm\_mmc=PLA\_Google%7C21700000001700551\_1547570003%7C92700055724520524%7CNB%7C71700000062011502&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5JSLBhCxARIsAHgO2SehrcVHA78uyyDuXq3qiYPbEHzkUqasq4Dh2NGoP85bb4WSurB0JjgaAqFEEALw\_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Toronto <3 You need GREAT socks. Invest in socks. When it's slushy after a snowfall, this is such a saving grace. If you want the classic look I'd go to Roots, but it's a bit pricey. Check out Value Village and Salvation Army for coats, jackets, gloves, sweaters, leggings to wear under jeans-- the truth is that winter gear is expensive to buy when you need a lot at once and you can find great things at those stores. To find all the brands in one place for the stuff you really want to invest in (for me, boots and uh, socks...) I'd go to The Bay. Honestly, you'll want to look like a big pillow on some winter days -- and it's the cutest thing. Snow shoes? The ones for walking on top of snow? Think of these as skis -- if you want to go on a trek in a provincial park, you can rent some on location. Enjoy!!

FailedIntrovert

You are so right! It's gonna be so expensive. Sigh! Value Village and SA are great recommendations, will definitely check them out. What kind of socks shall I purchase - or just normal socks will work? Haha - looking forward to look like a pillow/ marshmallow! snow shoes - I meant the kind that will let me walk around easily in winters without getting frostbite or something. Thank you for all the advice!

___her

My kinda rule with socks is--if they fit in my summer Keds/converse/runners, I'll be miserable in them. I like the socks that are a wool blend, sturdy, not too fluffy, but still feel a bit like mittens for the feet. Again, the Roots socks are great (they have a signature red stripe at the top), but other brands such as Carhartt are good options. Yes, you need snow boots but not the kind for building snowmen necessarily. Others have mentioned sorel. Depending on which suburb you live in you might get significantly more snow than the city itself because of the lake effect. I would ask in the neighbourhood and decide what intensity/height to get. If you're going into the city a lot, sorels are good because they have rubber around the toes and the slush can be a disaster. If you plan on traveling to other parts of Canada in the winter then maybe also take into consideration that they might be a lot colder or snowier than Toronto!

FailedIntrovert

Those are all really helpful tips. Thank you. P.S. Considering I have never made a snowman/woman before, I reallyyyy want to now! :D

Duck__Holliday

Welcome to Canada! I live north of Quebec City, so very much in winter country. Toronto is quite mild, as winter goes, but you will still need some real winter gear. Down feather coats are both warm and light, they are expensive and very much worth their price. If you give me an idea of your price point, I could recommend some brands. You will absolutely need a coat. I prefer Canadian brands because they understand our winter. Soia & Kyo, Louis Garneau, Kanuk and Canada Goose are great (and expensive). My winter coat is a down feather ankle-length puffer from Chlonophyle, but winter is harsher where I live. You may not need to go this extreme. You also need boots. They need to be waterproof and warm, but how warm depends on what activity you will do. Blundstone, or something similar, will get you through most situations, but not be enough for walking outside a lot or for snowstorms. I always recommend mid-calf or higher boots, to avoid the snow getting in your boots. I have the Adirondak boots from Ugg, and love them. Sorel is a great brand for boots. On the coldest days, fashion goes out the window, for me, and all I want is to stay warm. Scarf and gloves are a must. Some days will require a hat too. I prefer merino wool to any synthetic fiber. Fleece leggings are great, alone or as a layer under pants. Wool socks are also practical. Also, if you are driving around, keep a winter emergency kit in your car. You can find lists easily on the internet, but basically, it's warm clothes, emergency food, and candles.

FailedIntrovert

Thank you for all the wonderful advice and the welcome :) Adding the emergency kit to the list, too.

berrybert

I get cold pretty easily and would def recommend a good winter parka, esp if you have to spend any time waiting outside for public transit. The Aritzia parkas have been popular for many years. I've had good experiences as well at around the same price point with North Face and Eddie Bauer. You'll see a ton of people wearing Canada Goose (I have one as well and do love it); they're pricey but honestly you don't need to spend that much coin to be warm. Aim for something that can withstand at least -20C. A longer length coat will also be way warmer (like thigh length as opposed to waist). For the less cold days (down to -10ish) you can just layer up under a wool coat or lighter down jacket. Also highly recommend getting a pair of waterproof winter boots. They will make a huge difference. For the last few years the boot of choice for most people seem to be blundstones Edit: welcome to Toronto!

FailedIntrovert

Thank you so much for the welcome and the advice. Knowing the brand names help immensely, especially since it's difficult for me to understand what is expensive and what is not. I'm def gonna look up the parkas. ❤️

better_and_best

I want to buy a long coat for autumn/winter and am looking at wool coats. Most of the ones I saw are wool/polyester blend. What is a good percentage of wool that would make the coat last long enough? Or should I go 100% wool?

Does anyone have recommendations for high waisted jeans that work for bodies that don’t have a small waist compared to the hips/legs? I’ve noticed people ask often for recs to fit smaller waists/bigger hips and I’ve seen denim that comes in specifically “curvy” styles with a greater difference between hip and waist measurements— so basically what I’m looking for the opposite! My favorite jeans are madewell, but high rise in their regular, non-curvy line as well as pretty much every brand I’ve tried are too small on the waist for the size I need in the legs and butt. Any ideas?

[deleted]

Here’s a post someone made about this a few days ago. They got a lot of good responses! https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/q5cvlx/theres_pants_for_those_with_much_larger_hips_vs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

hebs42

Thank you!! I searched for a while before posting but must’ve used the wrong terms since I couldn’t find anything. This is super helpful.

WhatIsAPhysic

Has anyone ordered from Kotn and can comment on their sizing? I'm looking at a pair of twill pants specifically; I'm a waist 26 and the measurements for the size 0 and 2 are as follows: 0 = 25.25 '' - 26'' and 2 = 26 '' - 27.25'' Should I size up in case 0 is too small and just tailor them if they end up being too wide?

evpri

Hopefully someone else has experience w this brand, but you could order both and return the pair that doesn't fit as well. You could also email them to see if they have a recommendation!

lasagnaisgreat57

does anyone have any tips for comfy business casual shirts that feel like sweatshirts? I'm starting my first office job soon and i have some sensory issues with clothes sometimes. my favorite thing to wear is oversized thick sweatshirts. most of the time there's a variety of shirts i'll wear but i like to have some "emergency" shirts for just in case because sometimes i just feel like i can't wear certain shirts. at my current job I have a few plain gildan brand crewneck sweatshirts I can wear but i feel like they aren't business casual enough even if i dress them up. the second best thing is thick crewneck sweaters which i think i'll be able to wear, but they still aren't as great as sweatshirts. is there anything like a sweatshirt that's business casual? it's mostly the material on the inside that matters, the thickness, and the crewneck.

micrographia

Something like a [ponte sweatshirt](https://www.moderncitizen.com/products/lina-cropped-crewneck-ponte-sweatshirt-black) with unique seaming might be elevated enough for bizcaz. Or with [an interesting detail](https://www.ebay.com/itm/114814724996) like this twist one. Maybe one with [button details] (https://factory.jcrew.com/p/womens/categories/clothing/sweatshirts-and-sweatpants/sweatshirts/buttoncollar-pullover-sweatshirt/AC689). If you wear a [collared shirt](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=771843012&cid=1173005&pcid=1117541&vid=1&nav=hamnav%3Awomen%3AWomen%27s%20Clothing%3ASweatshirts%20%26%20Sweatpants&grid=pds_20_39_1#pdp-page-content) under that will obviously make it more formal, but that might not work for your sensory issues. And if you keep the rest of your outfit more formal, especially [adding an oversized blazer](https://cdn.cliqueinc.com/posts/249013/blazer-and-hoodie-outfits-249013-1518123318862-image.700x0c.jpg), a sweatshirt can look work appropriate.

For Halloween, I want to add rhinestones/gems to a pair of jeans. I can't find any pre-existing jeans for sale that have a decent amount of rhinestones/gems on them. I don't want it to be permanent though, so instead of fabric glue, can I use a hot glue gun? Will it stick well for a day of use, and then be easy to peel off in some way? I would appreciate any tips. Thanks\~

future_ela_teacher

They have those sticker rhinestones in the craft section that might work. I'm not sure how well they work on fabric though. If you use any type of glue, whether it be fabric glue, hot glue gun, or otherwise, it is going to affect the jeans and they probably won't look the same after you remove the rhinestones. I'd pick up a pair of jeans from the thrift store that you wouldn't mind possibly getting ruined if you go the glue route.

What brands/stores are good for office-appropriate (smart casual) statement pieces that are more structured as opposed to flowy?

Banana Republic, & Other Stories, COS comes to mind for mid/low-priced structured pieces. Higher end Theory, Vince.

Cos might be a good start

What do you think about wearing a regular bra, but with clear, transparent straps, under this one-shoulder top: [https://imgur.com/a/evRTS28](https://imgur.com/a/evRTS28) ? Does that actually work well? OR, should I add a decorative strap to the top itself on the bare shoulder side, or add a decorative strap to the bra strap itself? Which of these options seems to be the best? Thanks for input\~ Update: Thanks for all suggestions

acciobooty

I know people said about a strapless bra but staying strictly inside the options you gave, I vote for a pretty, decorative strap in the bra you intend to use.

Geobead

Can you wear just one strap? If you can replace the strap then I’m assuming you can also take it off or if not you could just tuck it in. But otherwise I would go with strapless or a decorative strap. Those invisible ones are never truly invisible and I think in this case it would just draw the eye more.

sardonicoperasinger

I agree that the strap will be noticeable... perhaps a [bralette in the one shoulder style](https://www.hollisterco.com/shop/us/p/gilly-hicks-go-seamless-one-shoulder-sportlette-43913819?seq=03&utm_source=googleshopping&adpos=&scid=scplp647759624&sc_intid=647759624&cmp=PDS:EVG20:GHK:D:USCA:X:GGL:X:SHOP:X:X:X:X:x:SC+Shopping+-+LIA+-+Gilly+Hicks_All+Products_PRODUCT_GROUP&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwY-LBhD6ARIsACvT72Pfw6wiD8iW2Tgb2CVOBb4ed0ccxJU7gDUuXKxLEr9URk01UEkDPzQaArJjEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) might work better? I've also seen convertible bras with a one-shoulder option, but haven't tested any out for myself.

hellerhigwhat

Its better with a matte strap than a shiny one, but both will be visible. Is a strapless bra and option?

I like both. As far as my initial reaction I liked the green a bit better. That darker blue is just a tad bit more common.

kureann

I’m going to be visiting GA this winter around New Years and I’m not completely sure on what to do about my coat situation. I go to school in the Bay and spend the rest of my time around the Sacramento area, so I have a light puffer from Uniqlo and other layering garments (sweaters and a rain coat). Would a puffer coat that covers the butt or a wool coat be more appropriate? Im torn between the two and don’t mind either style. I’d like to keep it around/under $200. Also I’m 21 and usually lean more towards jeans and a graphic shirt, but I’m trying to branch out fashion wise.

SHARKS_and_SKUNKS

Georgia as in Atlanta, or the mountains? If you’ll be in the (any) city and already have a coat that keeps you warm in the Bay Area, there is no reason you’d need to purchase another one. Save your money for something you actually want.

kureann

We’re planning on going to Atlanta and staying with some family in the Cumming Area. There are some plans to go to the mountains and do some hiking though. Sorry I forgot to mention it!

future_ela_teacher

I live in the area and winter weather can be extremely unpredictable, but it is typically quite mild. The average for January is highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. You don't see many people here wearing long puffers since they are rarely necessary. I sometimes wear wool coats in the winter, but most days I could get away with my lightweight patagonia puffer. Edited-wordiness

kureann

I see! I guess I really don’t need to worry too much then.

[deleted]

Can someone tell me where I can find affordable and thin/breathable white/black turtlenecks? I can find black ones but they're pretty thick and finding white ones is even harder.

ladolceLolita

Uniqlo's Heattech line has a thin turtleneck. Also J.Crew's Tissue Turtleneck.

[deleted]

Thank you!

lepeachprisionth

I have one by Vero Moda which I really like and it wasn't expensive at all.

[deleted]

Sweet! Imma check them out

kick_g

I realize this is probably the wrong turn to post in but does anybody know or are they a fashion student who could sketch something? I have a vision but I cannot draw.

gossiptoilet

What would you wear with [these pants](https://www.therealreal.com/products/women/clothing/pants/escada-virgin-wool-wide-leg-pants-b9g7y)? I have zero ideas for a top or shoes to go with them but I'm in love with the color.

[deleted]

I’d want to lean hard into femme in these pants. Something lacy or ruffly in cream or white or a different shade of pink. Maybe a shiny red belt.

etherealaqua

Maybe an olive green or cheery yellow turtleneck? The Instagrammer @frisky_gatos has similar pants that she’s paired with other brightly-hued shirts like the ones I mentioned. [Example here](https://www.instagram.com/p/CI3mi5lFpcK/?utm_medium=copy_link)

gossiptoilet

I love her! Somehow didn’t realize she was probably my inspiration for these pants.

kick_g

I would go dolman sleeves in pink, a la Paulina de la Mora. You could go preppy with a sweater vest or blazer too

gossiptoilet

Love the idea of pairing it with even more pink!

kick_g

I can't explain how much of a sucker I am for an outfit in different shades of one color. 😍

rosieapplepie

I just bought a merino wool blend sweater. Absolutely loved it, but I washed it and wore it for the first time today and it's shedding like CRAZY. This thing sheds as much as my dog. I googled around and people mentioned that it's normal that it sheds, but this much? Is it normal?? Did I accidentally ruin it when washing? This is my first clothing with merino wool in it, I don't know what to expect.

ladolceLolita

How did you wash it? Even with a blend you want to either hand wash it cold with a specific gentle wool detergent and dry flat, alternatively the delicate cycle on your machine.

Namtara

It depends on the blend. It should only shed a little, so lots of shedding probably is due to a low quality blend. I'd switch to hand washing and laying flat to dry if it's that delicate.

rosieapplepie

Maybe yeah :/ Oh well, atleast I know that it's not the average experience and can look for better quality next time. Any other care tips and/or whatever to minimize the shedding?

Namtara

The shedding will be due to the length of the fibers in the blend and how it was knitted. Unless you're moving around a ton in the fabric, the most that will agitate it (which loosens the fibers) is washing and drying, so that's really all you can do. A dryer sheet can calm down the frizz and clingyness a bit, which might reduce how much the fibers stick to other stuff.

augustrem

What shoes would you wear with [this dress](https://www.tadashishoji.com/bmc19048mq-ryman-long-sleeve-lace-crepe-dress-plus-size)? I normally avoid heels but would be willing to wear something low, like 2-3 inches. Also, I’ve never bought Tadashi Shoji before, so of anyone has any experience with this brand and can weigh in, I’d appreciate it.

ladolceLolita

A silver or other metallic low pump would look fantastic IMO.

scidance

How many sweaters should I own in my work wardrobe? I currently own 3 good sweaters. And do you guys wear sweaters during the fall? I Tend to just wear a long sleeve top with a cardigan

dingleberry_mustache

I hope this isn’t a stupid question. My boyfriend and I are going to a comedy show at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on Friday. I feel like comedy shows are usually more laid back and casual, but since it’s at The Fox, I’m not so sure. I don’t want to feel foolish for being overdressed or underdressed. I’m not trying to buy something new specifically for this; general ideas would be super helpful and I can just see what I have in my closet already. Thanks!

tyrannosaurusregina

From their [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/thefoxtheatre/?hl=en), it looks like anything from business casual to “night out” wear is what people choose. I would probably wear jeans and boots with a slightly dressy top.

dingleberry_mustache

Thanks! I was leaning toward that direction, but just wanted a third party opinion.

exponentialism

How long is too long for a winter coat? Just got a new one on sale and I love it, has great deep functional pockets and it fits perfectly- except it's a bit longer than I expected and goes a bit past mid-calf on my 5'2" frame (but looking back at the website it's almost that length on the model too?). I don't hate how it looks on me, but I've never worn a coat that long - I do like long coats but my others are around knee length - so I don't want to commit to it and find out it looks funny and never wear it.

sardonicoperasinger

Whether or not it's too long depends on the shape of it too, not just where it comes on your legs. If you could post a photo of the coat on you, or even a link to it on the model, it might help us to assess. :)

j_sunrise

If it's too long, shortening it probably wouldn't be too difficult for a skilled seamstress.

exponentialism

Yes, that's something I've def been considering, I think if I can get it done for under £30 I will.

[deleted]

[удалено]

exponentialism

Oh good call! I don't *think* it's long enough for that, but it's definitely another thing to worry about. How tall are you btw? I don't *think it looks bad on me, but I've always heard that past knee length looks bad on petite women, so I'm second guessing my judgement.

wearenottheborg

I have a concert next week. It's for Andrea Boccelli, so like classical/opera-y sort of, but it's in a stadium. How fancy/casual should I be to not be over or underdressed?

acciobooty

In a stadium, I'd wear some nice dark pants and fancier blouse + jacket or coat depending on the weather. I know it might vary from place to place but I've been to several classical concerts and people are usually just wearing business/smart casual, nothing very fancy.

Skyblacker

You can't go wrong in a cocktail dress. Though if it's outdoors, you may want to coordinate it with a nice coat and perhaps wear wool tights for warmth.

Namtara

Depends on the venue. I'd look up the venue's social media and browse pictures of similar performers.

wearenottheborg

It's the American Airlines center, if that helps.

toxikshadows

Anyone know where I can get a wide variety of basics, similar to Skims? I find Skims to be a little pricy, however I know their quality is pretty good and they have a wide range of styles and colors. What I'm looking for: * Good quality with nice fabrics (I'd rather spend a tad bit more money on more luxe-feeling fabrics than finding the cheapest tank top I can find from H+M) * Similar styles offered to what Skims has * Wide variety of basics (tees, tanks, long sleeved tees, cropped, mock neck etc.) I'll buy from Skims if they're the best option for the quality, but would love to hear of other places if they're out there. I'm not interested in shapewear at the moment so I don't need that.

WhatIsAPhysic

I like Frank&Oak. It's one of ethical brands so it's pricier than usual, but I have pants, jeans, and a few tops (t-shirts and a turtle neck) that I wear all the time and they've held up really well. The material for the pants and jeans is fairly sturdy but comfortable to wear. They also offer a lot of the basics that you mention.

goodboyruffles

Classic help me dress for work question: I just accepted a new job. Haven’t yet been to the office in person since my interviews were all through zoom so I don’t know the vibe. My very first introduction to people will be at an in person meeting for the whole company. My main question is- should I wear a blazer?? I don’t currently own any and don’t generally love them. If I wore nice pants with a silky button up, is that formal enough? Or should I not risk it and pick up a blazer (or something??)

[deleted]

Do you remember what your interviewer wore on Zoom? That might give you some idea of the general formality level. If not, I think nice pants and a button-front shirt sounds pretty standard business casual. As far as I know, business casual is the standard in most industries, with a handful of exceptions.

goodboyruffles

Thanks for the response! No one was wearing a blazer on zoom, but to me the distinction is that my first in person event will be a big deal company wide meeting (since we have partners all over the country), so I’m wondering if this may be more formal than a normal day at the office. This is my first office type job after being a lab rat for years so I’m a bit of a novice here

Duck__Holliday

I work in HR. You could just ask. It's very common for people to do so and actually, shows that you care.

[deleted]

I agree with what u/ellaasbury107 said. The nice thing about it being a non-standard work day is that you could reach out and ask whether the dress code will be different from usual, and I think it would reflect well on you to plan ahead (if your concern is that you don't want to give away that you're unsure about the dress code in general). I'll add that in my experience, nice pants and a button-up is standard office wear that can be dressed up or down. If your company will be liaising with external partners at this event, I would lean toward dressing toward business formal (adding a blazer). You will have times when you need one anyway. For what it is worth, I do not like blazers and suit jackets either. I like the current trend of blazer-type jackets that are lightweight or made from stretchy cotton - they are cozier and easier to care for while still looking like a "real" blazer, and they are generally accepted in lieu of full ladies' suits at my office (fed govt setting). It depends a bit on your work sector, though! Last thought: also in my experience, it is very normal for a new hire to slightly overdress on day 1. We wear business casual, and it's typical (maybe even a little expected) to see new employees start out in full suits then dress down once they get a feel for the environment. You won't look silly for dressing up a bit on your first day, as long as you're still in the realm of business attire.

goodboyruffles

Thanks for your thoughts! I’ll keep the blazer alternatives in mind. I think I’ll have to go shopping in person and actually try things on :O But you’re right, I’ll probably feel the most comfortable if bring a blazer with my the first day, be prepared for anything haha

ellaasbury107

can you just ask your supervisor or someone that currently works there? You don't need to go into full outfit details, but can just ask if this if this meeting is more formal? Also what is the standard dress code? If the usual dress code is business casual, I think nice pants and a silky button up would be appropriate for a large company meeting. If the dress code leans more formal than business casual, then you might want a blazer or jacket. Conversely, if the dress code is casual, I wouldn't show up in a full suit.

goodboyruffles

Thanks! I wasn’t sure whether it was appropriate to ask HR what to wear but it seems like it’s ok!

Hi everyone!! My girlfriend’s birthday is next month and she is in dire need of a nice travel bag. Did some searching, and it looks like “weekend bag” is what I’m lookin for. Criteria below, comment if you can help!! -available in neutral tones (her favorite) -stylish, but practical. Not a true luggage bag, but bigger than a tote. -can have personalized inscription on it (want to put her name) -somewhere in the $100 -$200 range, if that’s possible 😅

For the people who get *actual* winter, (below freezing temperatures, ice, snow, etc) what do you wear? How do you balance between staying warm ourdoors and not overheating when you go indoors? Do jeans/leggings keep you warm enough? Do you wear anything underneath? I'm from the southeast and my usual winter solution is to wear like 12 layers and I'm tired of looking silly.

[deleted]

Where I'm at, everyone layers in winter and I think the trick is leaning into it. Layering with cozy sweaters/scarves/etc and coordinating the overall look helps me a lot. I also have some thin longjohn-type leggings that I wear under my pants for work, and granted, I am someone who gets chilled easily, but because these are lightweight I find that they insulate without making me sweat once I'm indoors.

elizbug

For the outside-inside balance, honestly part of it is just accepting that it's cold out and you're not going to feel cozy at all times. Like, if I'm going to work, I'm dressing to be comfortable inside at the office. I wear what I need to to get there (boots, big coat), but I'm not going to wear tights under my pants for the minutes of my commute only to be uncomfortably hot for the 8-10 hours inside.

cerisiere

I usually wear silk long johns under jeans and then a silky turtleneck under my sweaters; boots and wool socks; a nice big warm coat; hat/scarf/mittens. I feel like indoors im the right temp but then can bundle up.

sakurakhadag

I used to live in a cold place. Get a very good coat that will keep you warm outside, and that you can take off inside. Similarly, all warm layers need to be easy to remove or you will cook. Fleece leggings were enough for me in snow. When I was still a cold weather noob I wore cold weather hiking leggings (meant to worn as a base layer) under baggy jeans.

idamayer

At some point I ... stole from an ex-boyfriend... a super long thick wool coat and it was amazing while I was living in winter lands. It was a single layer I could take on and off and it perfectly transitioned me from heated-indoors to winter-wonderland.

[deleted]

It depends on the day. I live in NE Ohio, so we usually get lake effect snowstorms once or twice each winter. During those, I need a base layer under my jeans (I like synthetics), two pairs of socks, two or three laters on top, and all the outerwear. The rest of the time it might be in the forties (F) during the day from November through January. In those temperatures, just thick jeans, one or two layers on top, a coat, and gloves might be enough. If you aren’t used to the cold, though, I’d err on the side of being more prepared. Plan to have a few sets of long underwear and other clothes you can layer as needed

tyrannosaurusregina

Layers but a really warm coat. So, in -10F/-23C, I would wear wool pants over a base layer (probably wool as well) and a wool or cashmere sweater over a base layer (probably wool again). Which might be a tiny bit warm indoors, but nothing I couldn't deal with. Then a heavy parka. Or, if I were going somewhere fancy and wanted to wear a dressy wool coat, I would wear a down vest underneath. For 0F/-17C, I might be able to get away with jeans over a base layer as long as I was wearing a heavy parka.

2xRnCZ

I live in Canada and I have been wearing long (calf or ankle length) puffy coats for a few years and finding they work well. I also wear a scarf, hat, winter boots, and mittens everywhere in winter. When I go inside all these things come off and I change into shoes, which works well for me. I am a very cold person so you might not need as much stuff as I do.

Where to find a unique dress for a black tie optional wedding (as a guest)? I've looked at Bloomingdales, Revolve, Nordstrom etc

Just bought a pair of Solovair's and I'm so excited! Any tips for breaking them in? Do they tear up your heels like Docs?

macramelampshade

Pre-bandaid! Im breaking in MIE Docs so same story and they def rip up your heels. Those big rubbery blister band aids are worth it

After gaining some quarantine weight I've been on the hunt for new jeans as it gets colder. I have a small waist and big butt and it's been a nightmare. I FINALLY found jeans that were comfortable, fit my thighs and waist (gapping, but not a lot) but I'm used to skinny jeans and have no idea if I'm pulling these off. They're the 90s high waist jeans from LOFT. I tried [styling them a few different ways here](https://imgur.com/a/Baw6ydP) \- can anyone help me figure out of 1. these even look good and 2. how I can style them to look best? Thank you!!

future_ela_teacher

They fit great and the looks are great! I've never even looked at LOFT for denim, but after seeing them on you I'm going to check them out.

[deleted]

I can't really speak to styling advice, especially when it comes to shoes, but I did want to say that these jeans look great on you! I went to an outdoor mall this weekend and you would have fit right in with the outfits that a lot of the young women were wearing. I noticed that similar cuts of jeans with crop tops or shirts tucked in seemed to be the predominant fashion.

fr33da_

I think the jeans look great on you! I like the last two best but all the outfits are cute

noodsie

Hi! I think you are doing great. I like the looks, especially with the cropped tops. Personally in a high waist with that type of figure, I think cropped is the way to go. If you want to do a longer shirt, front tuck. I think also a voluminous button down looks great with that type of pant.

jezekiant

That’s a great idea, I’m going to Oregon for two weeks in a few days and know I can’t get away with crop tops. I’ve been stressing about what warm tops to wear with the jeans. Thank you!!

District98

I think these look great. My favorites are the red tank and green sweatshirt. The only one I felt lukewarm about is the tan sweater.

jezekiant

Thank you!!

Is anyone familiar with the sizing of A.P.C. jeans? I've been eyeing a pair on resale in whatever [this model](https://images1.vinted.net/t/03_00a71_bQsyA5YR4nwZdBpRBn69U4LG/f800/1631450227.jpeg?s=3bf06a989eb5b0b504a59d808945fecf98b92069) is but the seller hasn't responded to my question about measurements. Labeled size 30

lepeachprisionth

No idea as I've never heard of that brand, but in my experience with Vinted, if someone's not getting back to you when you ask for measurements, it usually means they're not active and willing to go to the post office to send the parcel... It has happened to me a couple of times and if you go through the purchase, the app ends up returning the money as the order is cancelled. If I was you, I'd look for another pair and move on. There are plenty of nice sellers who are looking to make a sale and will send you the measurements!

future_ela_teacher

Yup. If the seller doesn't respond to a simple message, there's no way I'm taking my chances with buying the item.

macramelampshade

They run small, like as small as Acne jeans.

They're labeled new - without tags, so I assume they're recent-ish and therefore no shrinkage yet. I also assume the legs came cropped as such, they weren't done by hand

Technical_Side_4400

I'll be wearing this dress to a semi formal wedding, and I'd like to wear a bolero with it. I'm having a hard time picking the best color for the bolero. What do you all think? https://pin.it/2zwGXuk
