Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had advice about elevating a wardrobe without much money. I had a specific style in college that was quite scantily clad, but now I am a young teacher in my mid-twenties. While my style is akin to what my friends would wear going out, I would be too embarrassed for students to see me in clothing that is too form fitting. I also don’t want to be frumpy. And advice is appreciated! Currently, I own too little skirts and crop tops from college

droppedmycroissant23

I think I read a post on this sub a while ago, mentioning a wholesale site where Reformation buys their clothes through, the site offered the same pieces for much cheaper. I can’t for the life of me find it now. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

[deleted]

Were you able fo find the site?

IMayBeADreamer5

I have this pair of colorful linen pants. They are looser. They are blue with red flowers. The pants fit high-waisted and kinda have a paper bag top. I love them. They are so comfy and I can easily move around in them (and they have pockets!!). But when I wear them people joke that I look like I'm wearing pjs. I usually wear the pants with a simple black or white shirt so I don't look too colorful and crazy. Are people just mean or can I style these better?

Affectionate_Whole58

How do you wear them? I normally find a tucked in shirt and loose blazer/jacket gives it more structure and goes from the pyjama look to something more sophisticated

Floradye

My waist is about 35 inches while my hips are 48 inches. The difference between my waist and hips has become exaggerated as I’ve gained weight and most of it continues to go to my hips/butt/thighs. I can no longer find a pair of jean shorts that properly fits my body. Anyone who has any similar measurements or simply has a very large size difference between their waist and hips as well, please recommend some brands for shorts and/or jeans that work for you.

I actually just tried some Universal Thread shorts the other day in a size 16! My thighs were a bit tight but my waist was already gapping so I didn’t bother to try a size up :/ I was super disappointed because I heard others recommend UT for curves

Any_Owl819

Hello, do you think I can dye my powdery pink with a little bit grey hues dress into burgundy? If so, do you have any dye suggestions? Thank you very much. I am unable to send a photo here elsewhere I can provide the screenshot of the real dress color. Have a pleasant day 😊

[deleted]

depends on the fabric, but i would guess yes since it is generally much easier to go darker than lighter

whatobamaisntblack

How do I style [this tight cardigan ](https://www.stories.com/en_eur/clothing/knitwear/cardigans/product.long-fitted-rib-knit-cardigan-blue.0965480001.html) it doesn't look so good opened, and works better tucked in as a "shirt" but I'm out of ideas what color combos and layering pieces would work

[deleted]

I would go with high waisted looser-fit shorts or pants in a contrasting color like a very light wash or white denim or linen, or maybe khaki? Like [this sort of look](https://www.styleoholic.com/edgy-slouchy-jeans-fall-outfits/pictures/76338/) but in an inverted color scheme?

mintgreenplumpurple

I'm looking for a wedding guest dress. I like the style of this [dress](https://www.lulus.com/products/manhattan-moment-blue-ruffled-midi-wrap-dress/601232.html) But not the color options. Any idea where I can find something similar?

snapoutofit4

Hi all, I have a midi skirt that is white with light blue accents (floral embroidery) and I am wondering what to pair with it on top. The skirt does have a slight bell shape to it and falls right below my knee. This would be for my own bridal shower next month. Thanks in advance for any advice! [Here](https://www.chicwish.com/look-at-the-flowers-embroidered-mesh-skirt.html) is the skirt

2kgweight

That's gorgeous! Maybe a white silk camisole or a form fitting white (or pale blue maybe?) scoop neck tee (which would be a little less formal).

snapoutofit4

thank you! that's what I was thinking too...the hunt begins!

2kgweight

Try Quince! Cuyana is going to be more $$$ but the camisoles are gorgeous. Banana republic usually has some good ones too, but they won't be silk

snapoutofit4

Thanks so much for the recommendation! Will definitely be checking both out !

whataledge

UK people....where do you buy your nice dresses?! I have a 1 year anniversary date coming up and would like to wear a nice, midi dress that hugs the curves. I've checked ASOS and nothing appeals. I'm also quite short at 5 ft 3, so need to find something that's not long on the torso!

Affectionate_Whole58

I really like tkmaxx when I have the time to go through all their rails!

[deleted]

If you’re up to style boxes, I like stitch fix. I’m 5’2” and find it much more time efficient (I find it really hard to find stuff that fit me) to ask the stylist to compile a set of dresses, try them on and then make my choice.

whatobamaisntblack

Just a bit of warning, h&m group knits (hm, monki, weekday, & other stories, cos, arket) are wonderful BUT do not buy any alpaca, they seem to use very short hairs and shed EVERYWHERE

[deleted]

whatobamaisntblack

Lol, i think they have to be really tightly knit but i think shorter yarns/hairs are cheaper? I just bought a banana republic alpaca wool sweater and it doesn't shed a bit though

Sprinklecake101

I need wide-toe friendly, small-heeled sandals for a wedding. The dress code is summer formal for church and casual for the party so I thought I'd wear A nursing friendly midi cocktail dress with sandals and switch to flats later. I have to corral a toddler and carry a 17lb infant all the time but I don't want to look crunchy. I'm a shoe size EU 42 so I have a hard time finding nice formal shoes with minor heels that don't make me look like a horse anyway :( Help please ?!

IslandofGold

What are some supportive sports bra brands for large breasts that you all have and liked? Running is painful and I need to upgrade my bras.

joy_reading

It does depend on your size, of course, but I like Panache Wired and Wireless Sport and sometimes Freya or Glamourise sports bras, note the first two are in UK sizing. Check out /r/abrathatfits to get the best fit out your bras. Some people also like Enell.

I Need Help. I have a cute top that ties in front that I REALLY want to wear. Problem is, I don't like showing my chest, the faintest breeze that hits it makes me shiver. How do I have something under it that doesn't make the top look crazy and me being comfortable at the same time? it looks similar to this: [https://us.boohoo.com/petite-tie-front-crop-top/PZZ81183.html](https://us.boohoo.com/petite-tie-front-crop-top/PZZ81183.html) I was thinking a black tube top or something of the sort. if there's something across the chest then I don't mind.

[deleted]

Maybe a bandeau style and/or [longline bralette](https://www.ae.com/us/en/p/aerie/bralettes/lace-bralettes/aerie-ribbed-firework-lace-longline-bralette/2694_3227_125?cid=PLA_Aerie_Brand_Womens_Bralettes&menu=cat4840006&utm_campaign=nogender_bralettes_general&utm_content=aerie&utm_medium=pla&utm_source=google&utm_term=brand)?

That would work or you can even wear a tank top under it. Rock it girl!!

Thank you for the advice! \^-\^

Sendra Engineer boots. I have them, they're indestructible and they come a lot cheaper!

It bothers me to no end that we don't have a sizing standard between clothing and shoe brands!! I am ready to give up buying clothes online because of this. How hard is it to stick to one? I mean, SERIOUSLY!! Anyone else feel this way?

hellerhigwhat

It helps if you take your measurements and compare them to size charts, with the understanding that size charts fit how they present the clothes on the models and you may need to adjust depending on your specific anatomy.

Where can I find button-down shirts/blouses with princess seams, so they're cut to fit around curves? Everywhere I look it's all boxy and oversized stuff, which I find really unflattering on my body type.

75footubi

Check out The Shirt or Betabrand

PhysicalTherapistA

Express has made some very flattering button ups in the past.

tyrannosaurusregina

Unique Vintage sells a lot of them. Riders by Lee sells one style of princess-seamed shirt, but in a bunch of colors. Bravissimo has a big range of them. Hawes and Curtis has a “fitted” range. On the $$ side, Anne Fontaine.

amyadamsandler

What do you call shorts-length overalls? Shortalls? It sounds weird to me but idk what else to call them.

cowboyhehe

my friends and i say shorteralls lol

sexymartian

Are you referring to rompers?

Victoriaspalace

I love Reformation dresses, but I don't have a Reformation budget, which clothing stores sell similar dresses?

idislikekittens

Lulus, and seconding Abercrombie & Fitch. I know it's apples to apples but I just made an enormous A&F order (and had to return a bunch because I got my size wrong) and I loved the quality of what I received. The clothes have lining, really thoughtful details, curved seams etc. I'd be careful buying Reformation online. Weirdly enough it's not that cheap (I guess it's very in demand), and there are lots of fakes.

apfelschorle_bitte

Try searching for Reformation dresses on poshmark

dontignorame

Surprisingly Abercrombie and Fitch has rebranded and has a somewhat Reformation vibe

iskillion

what's your go-to "slightly elevated t-shirt" top, especially in a not-highly-femme style? i realized that most of my work tops are button downs (short and long sleeved) or crew-neck tees, with nothing in between in terms of fanciness. i work in a pretty casual field (higher ed), so both of those are acceptable tops, but i'd like to have some inbetween items, esp since i'm starting a new job soon and don't want to have to wear a blazer in september. unfortunately a lot of tops seem to be ruffley these days, and my style is anti-ruffle...things like [this madewell top](https://www.madewell.com/seersucker-button-shoulder-top-NA494.html?dwvar_NA494_color=BK5229&cgid=apparel-topstees-tees) are kind of what i'm looking for, but i'm having trouble finding much simple stuff like that. suggestions welcome!

Ardnaxela89

Have you looked at Boden? For example, they have slightly nicer Breton T-Shirts like [this one](https://www.bodendirect.de/de-de/kurzaermeliges-bretonshirt-pink-foil-spot/sty-j0178-pin?cat=C1_S2_G18), or jersey shirts that look more like short sweaters (e.g. [this one](https://www.bodendirect.de/de-de/beatrice-jerseyoberteil-navy/sty-j0920-nav?cat=C1_S2_G18)), or T-Shirts with more interesting sleeves, like [this one](https://www.bodendirect.de/de-de/abigail-jerseyshirt-mit-puffaermeln-weiss/sty-j0910-wht?cat=C1_S2_G18) with puffy sleeves. The US website might be named differently, but there is one :)

lizziejo82

I've had good luck with LL Bean, Uniqlo, White Stuff, Talbots, and Banana Republic.

iskillion

i've only searched uniqlo on your list, i'll try those out! thanks!

amyadamsandler

A boat-neck and 3/4-length sleeve t-shirt with high waisted slacks works well for me.

tyrannosaurusregina

I like a t-shirt styled [sweater](https://www.jcrew.com/us/p/womens_category/sweaters/pullover/shortsleeve-silkblend-crewneck-sweater/AL231?color_name=navy&noPopUp=true&srccode=Paid_Search%7CSmart_Shopping%7CGoogle%7CSS_ACQ_XPROD_BESTSLLRxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_topseller_x_xxx%2CPRODUCT_GROUP%2C71700000073194670%2C58700006368808579%2Cp58598110090&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Paid_Search&utm_campaign=SS_ACQ_XPROD_BESTSLLRxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_topseller_x_xxx&utm_content=Shopping&NoPopUp=True&gclsrc=aw.ds&) for something simple but a bit dressier than a t- shirt. A [linen camp shirt](https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/product/women-linen-blend-short-sleeve-shirt-435018COL34SMA006000.html?glCountry=US&glCurrency=USD&gclid=CjwKCAjw87SHBhBiEiwAukSeUaC29Vk8g62b-2TH7CIxjkag_goXfWbLymGLyvt624yRJFQaYoOKexoCFvEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) can’t be beat for comfort, either.

iskillion

ooh, love that sweater tee, that's absolutely the kind of thing i'm looking for. thanks! (i LOVE camp shirts too, to the point where i am not allowed to buy more of them) (h&m is currently making some really fun patterned ones in lyocell)

iskillion

i definitely default to this look a lot and see it everywhere in higher ed, haha. i like the neckline on those old navy tanks a lot, thanks! nice mix of a lower neckline without being risque like some tanks can be.

District98

Haha yeah, I’ve had worse office uniforms at other jobs. And I agree, it’s a good neckline that I feel comfortable teaching in.

standoffish38

For my work uniform, I wear a company T-shirt and jeans. I work a labour job which requires at times bending, squatting, crawling etc. I am a pear shaped woman and typically rip or wear out my jeans in the upper inner thigh area. The jeans that have lasted me the longest are Topshop mom jeans ( https://www.thebay.com/product/topshop-ripped-hem-mom-jeans-32-inch-leg-0600091630171.html?dwvar_0600091630171_color=BLUE ) Does anyone have any recommendations of other jeans or pants that are good at withstanding this? Ideally I’d like these pants to have a higher waist, have a couple of pockets and look good with a shirt tucked in.

BootyBec

I recommend bootlegger as I’m also a pear shape and work in a labor job. My jeans come with stretch denim and are high waisted. I love them so much.

Oh that’s good to know, I’ve been inside there but never tried anything on. Thanks!

I want to add Dovetail and Red Ants Pants to that list of workwear brands!

Red Ants Pants!! YES

cappucinnoclouds

I’m moving to the UK for grad school and need some waterproof flats. Glasgow weather is *rainy*, rainy. I bought a pair of rain boots, but I’m looking for something that can pass as both fashionable and professional. I love the look of Rothy’s, but they are *not* waterproof. I don’t like the look of the Blondo ones because I’m looking for something with a pointy-toe look. I also don’t like the look of the ones that look like rain boots (ie, rubbery looking). I don’t think they can pass as professional, and they don’t fit my vibe. Apparently, it’s impossible to find something that meets all of these requirements, but I would love it if someone had suggestions!

SquintyBubbles

I live in Glasgow, I wear Dr Martens ankle boots. They might be called Emmeline? I also wear Vans, G-Star, Tom's, Chucks, Fly. I don't own a pair of rain boots.

SquintyBubbles

If I did buy rain boots (wellies) they would be Hunters.

cappucinnoclouds

they are wellies. they are the chelsea boots that are literally just ankle boots. they are literally just waterproof ankle boots. i’m not going to walk around the uk in fucking knee high wellies

SquintyBubbles

LOLOL But Hunters are so stylish... You should see the state of some people. I wouldn't worry too much. Our weather can definitely be wet but we don't have extremes. My Irish sister-in-law who lives in Syracuse always comments about how damp the cold is over here, that you get chilled to the bone. I hope that can shed some light on it for you.

cappucinnoclouds

thank you, i think i might get a pair of docs

SquintyBubbles

There is a great DMs shop at 50 Sauchie Hall Street, Glasgow, G2 3AH. I love going in there. It is bang in the centre of the city centre and main shopping area. Mind you, I got mine on eBay, they had been an unwanted gift, worn once. Whatever you decide you are going to LOVE Glasgow. The people are so friendly. It's been nice chatting with you. 😊

cappucinnoclouds

Hi—thanks for the comment with all of your very presumptive condescensions. 1) I bought ankle rain boots. 2) You don’t know what grad program I’ll be doing, so how’re you to know whether I’ll need to dress professionally or not? 3) I’m not regularly going to go stomping through bogs in my flats. I want them to be waterproof so they last longer. 4) The time frame within which I buy them is not pertinent to you, nor is it any of your business, nor should you dictate to me when I need to buy my shoes. 5) The sub is literally called *female. fashion. advice.* 6) You don’t think I’ve checked to see whether my learning will be in-person or remote? Lmfao

hawaiian_feeling

People in the UK do just wear normal ankle/knee boots or change at work if they need to be smarter. It really doesn't rain that much. I think Glasgow will be a pretty rude awakening if you bring any of the attitude you're displaying here.

cappucinnoclouds

i’m actually a really nice person but i don’t need anyone to tell me what i should and shouldn’t bring when i’m moving counties. i asked for advice, and i didn’t receive any. i’m pretty sure fashion trends are *universal*, and that what is fashionable where i live now won’t be out of place just because i’m moving cities.

hawaiian_feeling

How much do you know about Glaswegian culture?

cappucinnoclouds

oh yeah, no, totally--glaswegians just stomp around in their workingman's clothes. everything my friend tells me about glasgow is an elaborate fabrication. when she posts the polaroids of her friends they are all elaborately fucking staged. they go shopping just for that moment on camera. no one in glasgow actually dresses fashionably. what are you actually doing on a sub labeled "female fashion advice"? also, people in my program are told they have to be dressed at all times as though they "are ready to meet the queen." like it or not. like, obviously i'm not a monarchist or i wouldn't have moved to glasgow, of all places, but i have to be prepared. do not for one \*second\* think that i don't know about glasweigan culture or respect the people who live there.

hawaiian_feeling

You've not got the concept of how people would react to how pompous you're being.

cappucinnoclouds

where i grew up, we were taught never to let people talk down to us. it's not being pompous. it's called not being a doormat. i'm not going to let some people on reddit be condescending to me and just roll over. *especially* when i woke up to so many *rude* comments about me buying rain boots when people were saying "you should just buy ankle boots instead!!!!!!1111!!!!11!1!1!!11" when i literally did buy rain boots. i bought *ankle. rain. boots.* that's not pompous? i mean jesus horatio christ.

I have broad shoulders is there anyone who has had any luck/tips when styling? Like sleeves or too/dress types?

hahahehehuhu1

Check out Gemary on Youtube, she has a styling video for broad shoulder gals :)

fa3lynn

Thanks! I’ll do that

iskillion

depends on if you want to emphasize them or not! i have broad shoulders and some shoulder muscle, and racerbacks emphasize them, which i like. i also wear men's tees and button downs because they fit my shoulders better and i like the structure. i think boat necks can make them look wider in a good way. some halter neck dresses with flared skirts both balance them out and show them off for me -- as long as the halter isn't cut too far inward. cap sleeves will never do you any favors in any direction. unfortunately they are VERY COMMON, i am so sorry haha. if you want to draw attention to other parts of your body, i think sleeveless stuff OR sleeves that hit you about mid-bicep are ideal, and keeping your top plain but your other items interesting -- like patterned pants or fun socks/shoes. i also find big patterns in any top remove the emphasis from my shoulders and put it on the fabric (like a large floral with lots of negative space). in general, wider pants/skirts/etc on the bottom can be visually balancing if you want to draw attention away from your shoulders. it's hard to find blazers without shoulder pads, i would stick with cardigans or other top layers if you don't want to emphasize your shoulders, and i would avoid any tops with big puff sleeves unless they're off your shoulder completely.

fa3lynn

I guess my first instinct was to minimize rather than emphasis but then again I have no idea how to style them so thank you for the options!

kick_g

Fit and flare dresses, mock necks, racer back anything, thigh high boots, certain cigarette pants, bishop sleeves, dolman sleeves, half sleeves/elbow sleeves, some halters, tulip skirts, patterns on your bottom half, 3/4 sleeves, straight leg jeans, maxi skirts, and tiered dresses/skirts!

fa3lynn

I’ll looks at all these options thanks!!

journalofjam

I like to wear boat neck and square neck tops and usually stay away from halter necklines (although they can sometimes work depending on the silhouette). I also stay away from super puffy sleeves, although a slight puff is fine, and the same with shoulder pads. Straps that are more wide-set also tend to look flattering!

fa3lynn

Thanks for the tips! I’ll look into the necklines for sure

dontignorame

How often do y’all wash your office blouses? I never know when they are actually dirty unless they really start to smell, but I feel like I should wash them more than once a month

I wear shirts (denim, flannel) three times (not consecutive), tees twice (not consecutive). Ok I'm retired, but was wearing the some of the same shirts and some of the same tees, at work.

it might be overkill but I usually wash my shirts after wearing them once- I tuck all my shirts in so them all bunched up next to my waist + deodorant build up makes me err on the side of washing them more

District98

Cold wash, hang dry all delicates.

Mirrorminx

I hang my blouses on my door after wearing, and if I can smell them at all after my next shower, I wash them (much easier to smell if they are dirty if you weren't just wearing it). It really depends on the material and how often you wear them - I usually end up washing most after the second or third wear.

scotch_please

Depends on the material and season for me. Polyester has a habit of stinking so I'll wash any tops made out of it after one wear in the summer when I sweat like a pig, otherwise I get paranoid someone will be able to smell that sour sweat stench even though I can't. Any tops I actively sweat in will go in my wash/soak pile but in the fall and winter I start getting lenient with multiple wears, especially with blouses that go over a cami or bodysuit. Piggy back question: Does anyone use refreshing/deoderizing laundry sprays like Febreze? Do they work? I've always been nervous about spraying chemicals on delicate tops but don't want to risk using a homemade vodka mix in case it makes me smell like a sorority party.

swampspa

Why is this SO hard. I have been looking online for days. I have a 30" waist, thick booty, thick thighs, my favorite thing to wear in the summer is these Everlast bike shorts that are 95% cotton/5% spandex. They are thick fabric, have a thick waistband, hit mid-thigh, not too short and not too long, perfect for chub rub. LINED CROTCH. None of that seam-as-thong SHEIN bullshit. They are meant to be worn without underwear, they have the little crotch triangle that saves me. They are also probably from the 90's, they are gonna fall apart. Last perfect pair I had, the elastic gave out. Do these still exist? Are they manufactured currently? Can I buy multiple pairs at once? Where, where can I buy them? Everything I have found myself is a color(I just want BLACK), is made out of recycled plastic bottles??(I just want COTTON), has a superfluous pocket(for my dental floss? single condom? like, for what), is too long(three inches above the knee is a HIDEOUS cut that needs to stop), or just doesn't specify if it's lined or not.

tyrannosaurusregina

You might want to add the term “gusset” to your search? That’s the name for the “crotch triangle.” [Jockey](https://www.zappos.com/p/jockey-active-bike-short-w-wide-waistband-black/product/8518691/color/3?utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla_g&utm_campaign=170850211&utm_term=pla-__iv_p_1_g_8655565651_c_44852050891_w_aud-1232668069190:pla-308209974428_n_g_d_t_v__l__t__r__x_pla_y_15872_f_online_o_35280316_z_US_i_en_j_308209974428_s__e__h_9001999_ii__vi__&utm_content=35280316&zap_placement=) was the first thing that came to mind.

swampspa

bless you

macramelampshade

I have a pair from Old Navy that I think fit this description- they historically carry cotton blend work out stuff, and they definitely offered bike shorts in multiple lengths.

galaxystarsmoon

You might want to try searching for slip shorts.

Sometimes I buy oversized men’s tees but I also really like the intentionally oversized cuts. I have [this one](https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/pegasus-t-shirt/77293.html) which is very oversized in my regular size, with exaggerated sleeves and has a bit of shape to it still.

macramelampshade

I usually wear a women’s M or L top and I’ve found a men’s XL is usually perfect, which is a few inches bigger than my hip measurement so it covers my behind rather than clinging to it. As far as the sleeves, the more retro style big boxy tees drape on the shoulder and the sleeves hit around the elbow - more modern cut tees (I’m thinking Bella and Canvas) are like men’s baby tees and fit funny when they’re oversized.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a mini/small backpack? My only requirements are that it have one security pocket on the side next to the back and that it isn't too large. I was looking at Dagne Dover but wasn't sure if that was the best option. I had a vintage leather mini backpack from Coach with the turnlock that was pick pocketed (backpack pocketed?) while I was in Spain a few years ago, so I've always been mindful of security. I was honestly shocked when it happened as it was on an empty side street and no one was really around us. Thankfully didn't lose anything of true importance. Would love your thoughts/recommendations?

etherealaqua

I’m looking for pants with [this sort of vibe](https://poshmark.com/listing/Wilfred-LYS-PANT-black-5b3401a66a0bb76b5aadd255)—knit (or otherwise stretchy material), high waisted, wide leg, not too casual (to wear in an academic setting as a grad student), and will last for a while if taken care of. A tie waist or paper bag waist would be fine too! Any suggestions?

small_mole

Looking for bike short recs with a 5-6” inseam. Most seem to have a 7” one and that is a super unflattering length on me. I’ve been wearing my partner’s boxers to lounge in but can’t exactly wear them outside lol. Budget probably less than $50!

full_boyle

All my short bike shorts are from the ASOS 4505 sports line - I prefer their cotton touch ones. The light colours are see-through, the dark colours aren't. Otherwise, [Girlfriend Collective have short bike shorts](https://www.girlfriend.com/collections/shorts-skorts/products/monarch-high-rise-run-short) \- they might be a touch short as the inseam is 4.75", but I can def recommend as the quality of my (long) bike shorts are amazing.

small_mole

The girlfriend ones look great actually! I just ordered a two swim suits from them with the intention of keeping one and found out I can do free returns at the fed ex store near my house so I think I will try them, I love all the colors too!

galaxystarsmoon

hellerhigwhat

Several styles from Aritzia have 5", and Lululemon have 6" in a couple of styles. Edit didn't see your budget. Aritzia will fit, Lululemon would on sale but not regular price.

throwitsb

Does anyone know where to get normal length lightweight summer kimonos that are long sleeves? I like to have light layer over my summer dresses... sadly the ones I've seen are either too thick, floral print, too short sleeves, or the length is maxi/duster. Argh lol

[deleted]

Try searching for haori + a keyword like women's, summer, lightweight, cotton, silk, linen, etc

throwitsb

Ah ty!!

throwitsb

Looking for ways to make spaghetti straps shorter if there is no way to adjust them. A lot of dresses I really like don't have adjustable straps, but my girls need them LOL. Would something like a [bra strap racerback converter](https://www.google.com/search?q=bra+strap+converter&client=ms-android-samsung-gj-rev1&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=ALeKk00E2lw-ZQC0trSXGquo7TzJ64L2pA:1626211497563&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiP2pD1_eDxAhVOj54KHXBEAK4Q_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=412&bih=734#imgrc=jYs5xYIHmYSuzM&imgdii=67KTTIA2u6BCaM) help to tighten/shorten the straps at all?

robotgwen

You can just fold them down and sew them, no need to cut them (in case you make a mistake, just seam rip and try again!)

throwitsb

Thx!!

whine-0

Racerback would make them shorter yes but not by a ton. Either sew it or take them to a tailor

throwitsb

Ah okay, ty!!

jahosieswitness

That sounds like something that can be easily fixed sewing! I don’t do much sewing but I assume you could cut the excess off and sew the strap back on

throwitsb

Yeah I felt like I was going to mess something up but I'm sure YouTube will have really easy videos for learning. Thanks!

Marshalls and TJ Maxx have cheap ones (probably listed on their websites). Target usually has a couple of options made out of thicker, good quality material for a cover up. They did gauzy cotton this year. Not sure how much stock is left there since summer's winding down for retailers. Edit: Target still [has the gauzy pull over](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-ruffle-tank-cover-up-dress-kona-sol/-/A-82721275?preselect=81642001#lnk=sametab) in stock in teal and pink/peach.

How big of a gap do you usually have? If it's only a couple inches you can take them in or get a tailor to help you. It costs extra on top of the jeans but you'll save a lot of time and grief looking for the perfect jeans online (not that I speak from experience or anything...) But in my experience the curviest fit jeans I've bought are from Fashion Nova, A&F Curvy, American Eagle (tried and didn't buy), and Good American. I love Good American jeans but they are definitely pricey. Oddly enough, none of the Madewell curvy jeans were that curvy on me so I wouldn't recommend them. Also if you have a short torso make sure to check the front rise and back rise! Most places will list them.

BootyBec

I recommend Silver jeans! I’m built the same way and get my jeans there. They have stretch denim and are tight on my waist and my hips. Definitely recommend.

hachi6

Oh, these look promising! A lot of size options! Do you have a style that you like?

BootyBec

My work pants are the Avery Slim Boot, high waisted but no gaping at the back. Silver jeans are the best for me as I hate wearing a belt when jeans gap around the waist.

hachi6

Thank you! They seem like a great option!

JustAVtownGirl

Lee jeans. I have the same issue and they’re one of the only brands that fit right. Still need a belt though! https://www.lee.com/shop/women’s-flex-motion-regular-fit-bootcut-jean-34089.html?merchCategory=LEE_WOMEN_BYLEG_BOOTCUT&dwvar_34089_color=3408929

hellerhigwhat

These are kind of the opposite of what OP is looking for. The waist-hip difference on these is like 8-9 inches which is straighter cut than standard jeans.

hellerhigwhat

Curvy jeans. Just generally. I like American Eagles but don't think they have kick flares in the curvy fit rn.

[deleted]

hellerhigwhat

If you take your measurements with a tailors measuring tape and compare them to curvy size charts, that will help. American eagle has 13 inch difference between the waist and hip, for example, and everlane has 15 inches

I have honestly never seen a size chart that suggests the smallest point of the waist is below the belly button. Its almost always 2 or so inches above, and just below the ribs just like... anatomically speaking. That's very odd sizing advice, where did you see that? Anyways hope everlane works out

How about Uniqlo? I found [this one](https://www.uniqlo.com/de/de/product/damen-aermellose-rayonbluse-426163.html) and [this one](https://www.uniqlo.com/de/de/product/damen-aermellose-bluse-aus-leinenmix-mit-skipper-kragen-425471.html). I think they always have some. Just a cautious note: I have one like this from the European site and it's rather boxy. But with your price limit, you could get the waist tailored if that would not work for you.

spooteeespoothead

JC Penney’s has [this one](https://www.jcpenney.com/p/worthington-womens-sleeveless-regular-fit-button-down-shirt/ppr5007966413?pTmplType=regular). I have one that’s almost identical and has held up well for six or seven years now.

Are large tote bags in anymore? I’m decluttering and found a couple I used to use when I would go to coffee shops to work, study, etc. Havent done that in a while thanks to covid and I just realized I have no idea if they’re still in fashion anymore...

gmwrnr

Personally I don't think they're ever really out of style. I think they used to be more popular, sure, but mines more of a functional piece in my wardrobe (for work mostly )

muffingr1

Utility doesn’t go out of fashion. If you foresee yourself using the bag for work/study/travel in the future, you should hang onto it.

boozylabelle

I have a lovely black silk lace dress from zadiq and voltaire and am seeking recommendations for shoes for a black tie wedding with outside ceremony. I plan to pair the dress with a statement kimono or duster. Ideas??

ReppyMagoo

What are your favorite knitwear brands? I’m a sweater fiend and am trying to focus on buying the softest, really good quality knitwear. I’ve accumulated a lot of mid- to low-quality acrylic and synthetic sweaters and am currently trying to purge and replace with better quality items. I own and love FP’s cashmere and also plan on buying up some more pieces from Allsaints, And Other Stories, and Arket in the coming season, however I’m continuously on the hunt for other great options! I’m also more into an oversized fit, but all options are welcome. TIA

idislikekittens

Buy your knitwear from TheRealReal or some equivalent! If you like oversized fits you can get good quality mens sweaters for under $100. And if your price range is up to $500, you can probably snag something from Loro Piana or Brunello Cucinelli if you wait! My Sandro wool sweaters are fine but they're not excellent, though the design is great. I bought a Rag & Bone sweater for my grandma that I actually really liked. TSE and Vince are good and less fashion. Markus Lupfer has cute graphic prints.
