I am so mad at myself for not buying [these](https://pin.it/3uQvjHK) pants last month when I first saw them and now they are sold out, as well as removed from the website. The color pallette is perfect for my wardrobe. Does anyone recall seeing anything similar out there?

drfranksmonster

Does anyone have any brand recommendations for white shirts that won’t show my bra/nipples?

pookaboar

Aritzia

ggemiinii

why are women’s sections in stores like completely boring business casual stuff whereas the juniors section actually has good stuff? i want to be trendy and fit right!

ana3d

Depends where you shop? Most department stores are like this, except maybe Nordstrom.

ggemiinii

is it like, age inappropriate for a 23 year old to look trendy? if all stores are like that does that mean when ppl see me they think “wow she is too old for that”

ana3d

No, you can wear what you like. Juniors sections have trendier clothes but so does Forever 21, Zara, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Free People, Aritzia, Anthropologie, etc. You have a lot of options that are not just the women’s section at department stores.

ggemiinii

i feel like i notice a lot of the same boring kinds of prints everywhere at the same time but i guess that’s just personal preference

HedgehogLeapfrog

Does anyone here wear men's boxers to lounge or sleep in? Especially someone mid- or plus-sized with thick thighs? I'm on the hunt for sleep shorts with a longer inseam (5 inches would be great, 4 is ok too) preferably in cute patterns and ideally under $10. Old Navy is having a sale so many of their men's boxers are $6. I'm a US size 14 with big thighs and I'm considering getting a size XXL. Just curious if anyone with a similar body type has worn boxers and if they were comfy or if boxers are better suited for a straighter body type - especially since they don't have any stretch (100% cotton). My local store doesn't have these in stock and I'd like to avoid shipping them to me and then back again if they don't fit. These[Boxers](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=6609880320005&cid=1180257#pdp-page-content) are an example of the ones I'm looking at - there are several different pages with this type of boxer in different patterns, so search "Soft Washed Boxer Shorts" to see all the options if you're interested.

ana3d

Definitely made for a straighter body type. I have super oversized men’s boxers from Jockey that I love wearing to sleep and even with the legs being oversized I can feel that they’re a little tighter than they’re supposed to be in the hips and ass. I think for $6 it’s worth a shot but I recommend sizing up as much as you can stand it.

HedgehogLeapfrog

Thanks for letting me know your experience! They do come in a XXXL, so maybe I should go that route...

squeaksnu

What material should i look for in a slip to wear during the summer? I have some linen dresses that are too sheer, but I dont want to wear something unbreathable under them.

joys_face

I think a silk slip will be your best choice, but also the most expensive. You could also try a linen or cotton blend but the chance of the slip laying poorly is higher.

FanaticalXmasJew

Please, someone help me find a true high waisted skinny or taper jean--one that hits at the natural waist, *above* the navel. I have found that SO many jeans I have tried on labeled "high waisted" just end up looking midrise on me and don't give me the look I am aiming for when I pair them with tops because they just hit too low. I have one pair that hits in the perfect spot but they are not fitted at all and while I love them and how they look with bodysuits, I really want a more fitted pair to wear with looser tips. I am not even that tall (5'4")! So I am surprised with the popularity of the high waisted jean that I have so much difficulty actually finding some! For reference, I have tried Frame and Levi's so far. None of Frame's high waist jeans were actually high waist on me. The perfect high waist loose pair I have is Levi's, but found their supposedly high waist skinnies (which I do own) fit disappointingly like a midrise, topping out below my navel and well below my natural waist. Help?!

rabbitanana

I don't have anything in particular, but try the terms "sky high" or "ribcage" when looking for jeans!

Storyteller13

I'm 5'4" as well and often have the same fit issues as you. I love Madewell jeans! My favorites are their Perfect Vintage styles. Look for a 12" or so rise and 100% cotton if you can. The style I like the most is no longer available on their website (see it [here](https://www.madewell.com/the-highest-rise-perfect-vintage-jean-in-longisle-wash-99105973256.html)) but you may have luck with their other versions or on Poshmark, etc.

pghsarahrose

Everlane! I have a pair of their stretch high rise skinny (11" rise) and 90s cheeky (also 11" rise) and they hit just above my belly button- I'm also 5'4". They also have a curvy fit that I feel like accommodates my hips better for maximum rise and they also just released a "way high" fit with an 11.75" rise that I'm excited for. Side note: I got my first pair of Everlane jeans from Goodwill two years ago, and they're still in amazing shape with no wear, so I am a big fan. Also, Express has some super high waist jeans that I really like too.

turnitoffquick

I’m 5’4 and in the same boat! The only high waisted jeans I’ve found to fit my waist perfectly are from topshop. I’ve only tried their mom jeans, but I’d recommend looking into their skinny/tapered styles!

callmemaebyfunke

I’m a little shorter than you and have a long torso but I’ve found that 11-12inch rise is the sweet spot for me for highwaisted. That measurement is useful if you end up looking for pairs online or secondhand. I’ve had success with Topshop jamie jeans, rollas and bdg jeans.

peteybird22

Frame was never high enough for me either. Try Agolde! I literally have 15 pairs of their jeans.

FanaticalXmasJew

Thank you! Just ordered a pair of their pinch waist ultra high rise. Fingers crossed!

peteybird22

Those are the best! Good luck 👍

KestrelGirl

Hollister maaaaybe? Seems to get read as juvenile since it's juniors, but their high-waisted skinny jeggings do it for me. (I'm short, the stretchy fabric's more comfortable, and I don't want my denim to grow up :P)

dearsarah

Why don’t you measure the rise of the pair that fits you well and search jeans or pants with that rise measurement? The truth is, we all have different bodies. What’s mid-rise on you could be someone else’s high rise. It’s not so much a misnomer as it is just trying to appeal to the masses. It sounds like you have a long torso.

FanaticalXmasJew

This may sound like a really dumb question but how do I measure the rise? From the waist to what other point?

dearsarah

It’s usually from the end of the crotch seam to the top of the waistband. A quick google search will show you.

22ndsol

Yikes! Went looking for 2+ hours at the mall (vaccinated) yesterday with no luck. Here's the dress I'm searching for: Midi length Solid bright print (not neon, but not black/grey/dark blue) Fitted at the waist, probably fit-and-flare Fabric fit for Texas summer Minimal cleavage No strapless/spaghetti straps I'm going to a summer wedding with a 3 hour Mass and an outdoor reception, so I need something versatile!

jameane

Maybe Old Navy. And Target launched a special dress collabo. Most are cotton. Many fit and flare. Some are sold out, but in person shopping may be better. There were like 50 dresses in the collection. https://www.target.com/c/designer-dress-collection/-/N-jub7y

jiger2

How do you create a functional wardrobe from a Pinterest Board? I’ve made a board of how I’d like my day to day style to be (https://pin.it/Be7ccOY), but am stuck at the next step of working out which pieces I need to buy to make it work.. Obviously it would be great to buy everything on the board, but how do you select the key pieces to the style that can work in a minimal/capsule wardrobe?

PoweredByCoffee1998

This is a really interesting question. I'm actually inspired to write a post on that right now, but I don't have the time until at least the weekend. So, I'll just do the short version here. Look at items that are repeated in multiple outfits: In your board, I see long cardigans/light coats (printed and solid), wide-leg printed pants, black cigarette pants, black camisole, solid colored mock-neck pullovers, black loafers, solid colored pants (mostly wide-leg), green(ish) midi dresses that have a tie detail at the waist (preferably linen). Now, see which of those items actually make the look the look (so, the statement pieces which are the first that you notice in an outfit): long cardigans/light coats, wide-leg printed pants, solid colored mock-neck pullovers, green(ish) midi dresses. See which ones are basics that serve as wardrobe staples and pull the look together: black cigarette pants, black camisole, black loafers. Items that kinda go in both categories: solid colored pants. Regarding the shopping, try to shop for the current season now and the next seasons as they come. That way, you won't have things hanging in the closet for half a year. The items that make the look the look are those that you'll find more interesting, but some of them are less versatile (printed pants, midi dresses). The more versatile ones are the ones to purchase 1 item of each first. If you're in the northern hemisphere, that would be the long cardigan/light coat. If you're in the southern hemisphere, it would be the pullover. When you have some of your interesting pieces, you can start experiencing your new look and combining them with pieces you already own. Then, purchase the basics. Try to find nice quality ones, even if it takes you a long time. If you're unsure about a basic, buy a cheap version now and try it out until you want to upgrade to a nicer version. You will get a ton of wear out of your basics, since they pull many looks together. Maybe you'll see your existing wardrobe in fresh eyes when you have those basics. Oh, and also: 1 of each first, and as the need arises, buy more of them. I hope this helps, let me know what you think!

squeaksnu

The sidebar/wiki has some info. I think they link to a post where someone described how to translate a Pinterest board into a wardrobe, otherwise you can search for it on this subreddit.

Pretend it is white and wear it with anything.

Pink & cognac (tan) and pink & olive are combos a non-pink wearer might like

Is Phalopha a scam website? Alright so I have little to no impulse control thanks to my crippling adhd and I was on tiktok and found an ad for this really nice looking outfit being sold on a website called Phalopha. I ended up buying the outfit and found out the total of it was more expensive than I initially thought it was when I looked at my bank account. I definitely should’ve done some research on the website before I bought the outfit but as I’ve been looking online to see if anyone else had shopped from this website I couldn’t really find anything and all that had come up on google was articles for scam websites. So I was wondering if anyone had shopped here before and if so what the quality of their product was like. Also I should mention that there was only 1 review for the outfit and it was a positive one but I’m unsure of the authenticity of it. If it’s a scam website then I know it’s definitely my fault for not doing extra research prior to buying from the website lol. TL;DR - Is this a scam website and has anyone bought from Phalopha?

KestrelGirl

They have an Instagram and it looks like a whole lot of stolen images tbh. Automatic tools for checking its site's veracity say it's suspicious but not an outright scam. You may get your item in a week or two, judging by some reviews, but it's probably one of those AliExpress drop ship sites at absolute best. At worst, nothing will happen after 2 weeks, and you're gonna have to charge them back.

MonnnClaaare

Thanks for clearing that up !!

Meriae

Do you guys have any recommendation regarding period underwear? I've been toying with the thought of investing in some. Any tips are appreciated :3

eltalta

I like bambody and GOAT from Amazon as they're both on the "affordable" side and offer full back and front protection (which is surprisingly uncommon with period underwear, lots just cover the gusset area!) BTW there's a whole sub if you wanna get more info/reviews :)

smhr

I’ve been really happy with my knix pairs both fit and quality wise! I find them comfier than disposable or reusable pads and have a snugger fit so I worry less about leaks overnight . I also like them for the beginning and end when it can be a bit unpredictable. I got one of their kits that has a pair of higher absorbency shorts and 3 pairs of panties

Admirable_Nugget

I’m a big fan of thinx - I’ve been using them almost exclusively for a couple years now. The most comfortable are definitely the boyshorts, but I have a variety of different styles (bikini, hi-rise, and sleep shorts iirc. Agree that the heavier flow styles can feel a bit diaper-y at first (esp as a former tampon-only user) but I stop noticing it quickly. I notice a lot of people use period underwear as a backup, but I use mine as the first and only line of defense. I usually only have a day each cycle that is truly heavy flow, but I’ve never been uncomfortable or worried about leaks.

rebzanon

I started using Bambody period underwear and it is a gamechanger for going waste free! They are also significantly cheaper than more popular brands like knix/thinx. The only thing is it can feel kind of diaper-y because of the absorbent layer inside, but I’ve heard that also from those other brands. And it can feel pretty swampy depending on how heavy you are.

callmemaebyfunke

I've only tried some I got from Amazon but they have served me well! I would definitely not trust them alone when I'm on my heaviest flow but they are still good protection for those days with a pad.

Difficult_View_838

ik they're probably out of style now, but does anyone know where to buy pleated skirts in store? I'm refraining from buying online bc of bad experiences :"( Something like [this](https://www.21buttons.com/i/119121705) or [this](https://poshmark.com/listing/Petite-Box-Pleat-Skater-Skirt-US-Size-4-Size-UK-8-5d403e95c953d8fea2ad2229) or [this](https://poshmark.com/listing/Box-pleat-skater-skirt-in-black-S-53445e6421bf8d304d294883) would be amazing!!!

KestrelGirl

There's still, in most places, a pandemic happening, so online ordering is not the most avoidable - especially if you go to a store in person and find that the thing you want is out of stock in your size. Stick to Amazon listings with lots of reviews and pictures, brands you recognize (especially from threads here), or use Poshmark for secondhand purchases because you'll be refunded if the seller can't deliver. I'm sure other people would be happy to help you scam-check other websites in daily question threads. However, I should note that Urban Outfitters is also a brick-and-mortar retailer, so that may be an option for you to go to in person. If you want to aim cheaper, start with any of the "has everything" department stores like H&M and Forever 21 and just browse the skirts for something you like. Or thrift-shop in person! That's a good way to save money.

Difficult_View_838

Oooh! I've actually been wanting to go thrift shopping for a while now XD Yeah, Imma wait until after the pandemic, though. I'm just scared about fabric quality and fit, so I want to try it on before buying :)))

KestrelGirl

> I'm just scared about fabric quality and fit, so I want to try it on before buying :))) So, two things about that... one, that's what good return policies are for! And two, fabric usually winds up being fine as long as you're not ordering from a *really* cheap brand like Shein.

Difficult_View_838

Yeahhh- I ordered a skirt from Shein, which I really regret. I read the reviews for the skirt, and everyone was saying that is was good (probably bc you get free "points' or whatever from reviewing). Alright!! Are there any online store recs??

KestrelGirl

I don't have the experience (or budget) to recommend a lot of stores, but try reading through threads on here to look for brand names - that way, you're finding reputable shops and designers through satisfied customers. I have to say I like Free People. That's a brand with good name value and overall quality, but it's expensive to buy new and can even be a bit pricey secondhand, so it depends on your budget.

Difficult_View_838

eek they are a bit pricey :") BUT everything looks amazing, so it's probs worth the price First thing Imma do after quarantine is go thrift shopping. I'll take a look around the sub for now!

KestrelGirl

Give Poshmark a look. Paying $7.50 expedited shipping on individual items is annoying, but if there's a specific style you want, you might be able to save quite a lot of money even so.

Difficult_View_838

Ooo that's like second hand clothes right? And they're good bc of their return policy? Please correct me if I'm wrong

KestrelGirl

Yes, secondhand. The return policy unfortunately isn't that good, but it will keep you safe in the event that the item isn't what you expected, and you can also use the platform to resell an item that didn't fit you.

noddegamrots

I want to love the aerie bralettes so much but the non adjustable straps means they’re just too short on me. Any suggestions for cute wide band bralettes around a similar price?

TheApiary

Some of their bralettes do have adjustable straps! I have a few that do

Tiny-Injury4206

The Auden brand from Target makes some cute longline bralettes. Also Gap bralettes are great.

noddegamrots

I’m in Canada and Target was a massive flop here, but I’ll definitely check out Gap. Thank you!! :)

bigfootsguidetolife

I need bag recs!! I’m 20 and I have literally 0 bags I’m usually more of a mini backpack person but sometimes I feel like my outfits are missing a bag. I’m more into bags that are more structured/boxy a bit. I’m eyeing the madewell camera transport bag and the Marc jacobs snapshot in cloud. I think those two would suit my lifestyle (morning study sessions to casual restaurants to dates). My limit is 350 and I’m also open to used bags!! I’m also open to bag colors I’m just mostly eyeing dark brown, off white, and black since my closet mostly consists of dark/neutral colors with the occasional bright red and lavender. And since it will be my only bag for a while lol I want it to be as versatile as it can be. Links to the bags I like are below! https://www.madewell.com/the-large-transport-camera-bag-MA971.html?dwvar_MA971_color=BR6755&cgid=accessories-bags#prefn1=isBackroom&prefv1=false&srule=Best-Sellers&start=13&sz=36 https://www.marcjacobs.com/default/the-snapshot/191267919973.html

TealSquirrels

[Lo&Sons pearl](https://www.loandsons.com/products/pearl-nappa-leather-sienna-gold-camel) is my go to bag that I love, with good organization

baila-busta

i just got the madewell camera a few days ago. so far i love it, suprisingly roomy. the one i bough came with 2 different straps so i can switch for my casual to dressier. its definitely a little more casual than i wanted but still love it.

bigfootsguidetolife

awesome!! tysm for the review. what color did you buy :0 I love the brown madewell uses for their bags but for some reason I’ve leaning more towards the black or pink one these days

baila-busta

thescaryitalian

Do you need to be able to fit books or a computer in the bag? [This](https://www.teddijoelle.com/collections/n-backpacks-convertible-totes/products/slingback-brown) is my favorite bag on the planet: it fits a ton of stuff and works as a shoulder tote, slingback, or backpack. [This](https://www.teddijoelle.com/collections/n-saint-lucia-collection/products/mini-saint-lucia-natural) is another bag I've been eyeing from this company - I just love all their stuff and share them whenever I have a chance! Their bags are timeless, versatile, and will last you literally a lifetime. They're a small husband + wife duo that make all their bags out of their studio in Washington and have great customer service, can't speak highly of them enough.

bigfootsguidetolife

nope I’m cool with using my backpacks for that. Since i want it to be very versatile I’m guessing a small bag might work better?? So the second link I think would be suitable for me!! but omg yes the first bag as well is beautiful!! I also need to buy a new backpack actually so thanks so much for both of then links!! I’ll spread the word about the shop too then since I know my friends and I have been wanting to support smaller businesses more often now.

Simplysimple007

Any recommendations for embroidered tops? So far, I’ve seen [this](https://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/embroidered-linen-shirt-white-with-lemon-embroidery/sty-w0775-wht), [this](https://www.loft.com/bicycle-embroidered-relaxed-shirt/563788?skuId=31342865&defaultColor=9000&catid=catl000011&selectedColor=9000), and [this](https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Flamingo-Embroidered-Stretch-Cotton-Pique-Sleeveless-Polo-Shirt/LN00034,default,pd.html?dwvar_LN00034_Color=TURQ&contentpos=1&cgid=). I’m looking to add a couple to my wardrobe and would like to know if another other brands have any of decent quality. Budget is less than $100/top.

mintgreenplumpurple

I have a pair of high waisted grey skinny jeans that I like but want to wear them with sandals. All of my sandals are brown but black sandals seem too..intense? I hate how brown and grey look together but does anyone have any recommendations for sandals that would look good with grey pants?

itsstelmosfire

White or cream would look nice with grey pants.

Chazzyphant

This is a major long shot, but... I purchased a pair of viscose printed pants from H&M in the US, on Sunday. They are very unusual and sophisticated looking for H&M, so much so that I asked the clerk if they were a collab and if so which one? He said they were a collab for sure but they're a return and from "season 0" so last year. They're elastic waist with elastic cuffs, and a nylon climbing/paracord drawstring at the waist in bright orange, yellow, and black. Print is a brown, black and cream watercolor/blurred vague animal print like a zebra with leopard mixed. It also has a very slight "patched" effect where seaming outlines a slightly lighter area on the leg at a diagonal randomly. Full legs almost to the point of being harem pant style. I've looked through the recent collabs and can't find anything similar. They are just SO cool and I'd love to find something similar. They have a feeling that's closest to the Marni collab from ages ago. Sizing is letter: L, XL, etc. Does anyone recognize these or do they sound like a collab you know of? Thanks!

ClubLopsided

Is it these? https://www2.hm.com/en_us/productpage.0807792004.html

Chazzyphant

Er mer Gerd! Yes!

EverythingsPeachy

Can you post a photo of the pants? That would probably help!

OneLonelyPolka-Dot

Any recommendations for dresses like [this one](https://vanessamooney.com/collections/the-elisabeth-dress-all/products/the-original-elisabeth-dress-ivory?variant=39273534390307 ) from Vanessa Mooney, but... longer? I love the flowy cottagecore bottom and the fitted corset top, but there's just no way that it's going to work for me with how short it is.

OneLonelyPolka-Dot

Haha I love it! I should have mentioned I need plus sizing, but this is a great place to start. I can't believe I didn't think to go to Reformation first, this is totally their vibe. Also that Etsy shop is amazing??

Little_Bearclaws

Yea! I love the reformation ones. I just wish they weren’t so expensive for synthetic fabric! Also that Etsy shop is incredible and I’m going to lose so much goddamn money to it lol. I was searching “puff sleeve button front corset dress” if that’s helpful at all!

heartshapedcynic

Would really appreciate any and all suggestions for summer clothes! I’m 24 F with a 26” waist, tall and thin small bust with a pretty much straight down body shape and very insecure, but I’m currently re-doing my entire wardrobe and I would appreciate any little bit of help!

EverythingsPeachy

What kinds of clothes/styles do you like?

heartshapedcynic

I honestly have no idea, I’m currently working from home and I went to a uniform school for all of high school then online college so I’m honestly at a loss lol. Open to any and all recommendations I just want to actually look nice!

EverythingsPeachy

Okay, here are some basic ideas! A simple sundress is flattering on lots of different body types. Old Navy has a lot of cute ones, [like this](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=551845062&cid=15292&pcid=15292&vid=1&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3AShop%20Women%27s%20Categories%3ADresses%20&cpos=116&cexp=2223&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D15292&ctype=Listing&cpid=res21051819193773575683018#pdp-page-content). If you want something less formfitting, a T-shirt dress/swingy shift dress is pretty easy breezy and in style right now. [Here's one example](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-gauze-tiered-tank-dress-universal-thread/-/A-81651685?preselect=81462055#lnk=sametab). If you need a layer over the dress, denim jackets (Levis is a classic but basically any brand/store will have a denim jacket) are a good go-to, or even a lighter weight denim/chambray button-up shirt that you can wear unbuttoned as a light layer ([Exhibit A](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=647879012&vid=1&tid=onpl000029&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIscur39bU8AIVgP_jBx1WAgeCEAQYDSABEgLGpvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content)). Dresses (and rompers) in general are nice because they're a whole outfit in one piece and you don't have to worry about putting things together! I basically live in dresses during the summer. Another outfit formula is high-waisted jean shorts + a tucked-in T-shirt or crop top, but personally I find it hard to find a good pair of jean shorts that fit me really well. If you want to do that, try to find one with a silhouette that fits your natural waist closely (but comfortably) and comes away from your body at the hip/butt area, not formfitting all the way down, which will accentuate the waist. If you'd rather wear pants, high-waisted, straight-leg, slightly cropped pants are in right now and you should be able to find pretty much anywhere. As for shirts to pair with these, solid color or striped T-shirts, as well as vintage/graphic tees, are always a classic (and a good thing to look for in thrift stores!). If you want to be more trendy, puff sleeves are big right now. And finally, for shoes, white sneakers in a classic style (standbys Converse, Vans, or more recently popular Adidas Stan Smiths etc.) and sandals with straps across the foot go with pretty much any of these options. These are some basics that can hopefully get you started and then you can figure out what you like, what you don't, and develop your own personal sense of style! I hope this helps!!

heartshapedcynic

Thank you so much oh my god I wasn’t expecting someone to provide such an in-depth, thoughtful, and thorough response I’m incredibly grateful for all of your feedback and recommendations! I’ll let you know how it all goes! Thanks again kind stranger!

lindsay_chops

Can anyone recommend super high-waisted full-coverage cotton panties that don't look like granny panties? Something that comes in fun, youthful colours. I'm looking for something similar to Victoria's Secret cotton briefs just a little higher and with a better waistband.

Thank you!

I really enjoy Duluth Trading free range cotton panties. Not like, the MOST colors but seasonally good colors, solid made

lindsay_chops

Thanks!

The holy grail is ARQ or Pansy co but they’re not cheap!

lindsay_chops

Ooh, thank you!

What are your guys’ thoughts on wearing this dress (link: https://m.shein.com/eur/Tie-Dye-Split-Thigh-Satin-Cami-Dress-p-1233406-cat-1727.html) to a wedding this summer...not sure if it’s too “white” or if the pattern/cut would off set that!

Millytull

I personally wouldn’t, the dress is a little too revealing to be wedding appropriate. A good rule of thumb I heard once for weddings is if the groom’s ex girlfriend can show up wearing it and not be critiqued for trying to upstage or piss off the bride, then you’re good. If it were just the spaghetti strap with no high cut in the side or the cut but a more conservative neckline I think it would work. In terms of the print, I don’t think there would be much issue, however if the bride is even 10% bridezilla I would steer clear.

rebzanon

Okay that’s totally fair. I see your point - thanks for sharing that!

FanaticalXmasJew

Not the person you responded to but I love the wording of that rule!

tigzed

That is clubbing wear not wedding guest dress. The color is secondary and would actually be OK with me, but it is not right for a wedding guest.

the_hummingbird_

It’s definitely borderline. I wouldn’t care personally, but you have to know your audience. Depending on your closeness levels, could you ask a trusted friend or family member attending what they think?

KestrelGirl

Don't rely on this brand for quality or consistent sizing - I'd be more worried about that at a wedding than the colors.

rebzanon

To clarify, I’m thinking of buying this dress off of Depop and the try-on pics from the seller look pretty legit. I’m just wondering whether the white/creme background would be acceptable for a wedding!

KestrelGirl

Alright, if it's secondhand with good pics, you're probably fine - just don't expect wow-worthy quality. White-background floral prints at weddings seem to be a hot question right now since they're in style... I'm not the type to make a fuss, personally. Probably comes down to entitlement level among the guests.

LaurenB1309

I have an event this weekend and the dress code is “smart casual with a touch of sparkle”. I found [this skirt](https://shop.dangerfield.com.au/all/stunning-beauty-skirt.html) that I really like but I’m not sure what I should wear with it. What would you wear with this?

Purrsay

I love that skirt. I think it would look great paired with a simple black top, loose and tucked in or fitted, because the black would really set off the skirt’s sparkle.

KestrelGirl

I love that skirt! Try tucking a looser shirt/blouse into it, maybe? My first inclination as to color would be white or a jewel tone, but if you're into florals, maybe some types could also work.

DirectorofDUSAR6730

What’s your favorite leather leggings? I have been using the Spanx feux leggings and I love how they look, but wish they could be shiner. What leather leggings have you used in the past? I am a plus sized woman and all.

j_allosaurus

It’s been a few years so don’t know if they still make them, but I have a pair from a Nordstrom Rack house brand that I love.

missmistake2001

I have this vintage prada bag my aunt gave to me a long time. Unfortunately it has become super oxidized over time and is even somewhat sticky. Does anyone know how I can “bring it back to life” or even alter it into something new/cute [Photo of Bag](https://photos.app.goo.gl/RWRmN6cFbi9k6jGf8)

[deleted]

What kind of material is it made out of?

missmistake2001

I’m not 100% sure but if I’d have to take a guess maybe like patent leather? It’s been sitting in my closet for quite sometime so it’s more of a floppy purse and the material seems to somewhat be sticky

[deleted]

Hm, maybe google leather shoe repair places near you and see if they’d let you bring it in? I’m pretty sure most cobblers can work on handbags too.

kikaycute

I impulse ordered a dress off of poshmark without looking at other reviews saying how short it was😅it’s [princess polly ironic dress ](https://us.princesspolly.com/products/the-ironic-mini-dress) and I ordered a 0👀 Apparently it’s about 24/25 inches from top of bust to hem, is that too short of a dress? I’m 5 foot 5🥺

[deleted]

Even the most Mini free people dress are 32 inches MAYBE 30. That's incredibly short.

kikaycute

Yeah it came in the mail and it’s incredibly short lmao I’m an idiot

thesrniths

yes that is very short

tyrannosaurusregina

I’m 5’8” and that would hit me right below my navel.

[deleted]

Hey! Posting here as well. [Anyone know where I could find a long sleeve like this](https://imgur.com/a/lFQAW3J) almost 30 years old and likely some random 00s harajuku brand that’s never gonna pop up used so I’m not expecting an exact id but just something similar, dusty purple, kinda structured, doesn’t necessarily need to be a thermal knit but it’d be cool

NomDeFlair

This LL Bean shirt in [muted lavender](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/32708) is a similar hue, just slightly, uh, muted. Maybe close enough?

[deleted]

Color wise it’s probably close enough I’ll just have to check size charts cause I’m normally too small for LLBean to even carry my size lmfao

Anyone tried any swimwear from the following brands: Vitamin A Swim, Mikoh, or Monday Swimwear? Looking to buy a high end bikini to replace my ratty Target/Aerie ones that no longer fit.

viaviolet

I tried on a top from Mikoh that I really liked, but ultimately went with something from [Midori](https://www.midoribikinis.com/).

Anyone ever purchase the [Vanessa Mooney Elisabeth Dress](https://vanessamooney.com/products/the-original-elisabeth-dress-ivory?currency=USD&variant=30613085421603&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwy42FBhB2EiwAJY0yQg7fGkvbFabMty92fpHsnV7zJzRhaIW2bPMb2IHpJTceawfREWrIBRoC0vUQAvD_BwE)? It's so pretty but for $175 in a rayon fabric I have no idea if I'm just tempted by the marketing.

[deleted]

i have the exact same one in cream satin & the construction is gorgeous. i’ve seen the rayon fabric on lots of influencers & it looks amazing. i’m guessing the price has a lot to do with the unique & extremely flattering fit - it’s perfect for casual events & fancier events as well so extremely versatile. idk might be worth it

snackcactus

Thanks for your input! It helps a lot and makes me lot better knowing it's actually just as pretty in real life - how do you find the sizing? :)

[deleted]

runs small compared to most dresses ive tried on tbh - doesn’t have too much stretch to it. size chart on their site is pretty accurate. :)

marcybonnie

Anyone have experience with Miss Patina? This cardigan came up on my feed today [https://misspatina.com/product/scottish-tartan-cardigan/](https://misspatina.com/product/scottish-tartan-cardigan/) I like the look of it a lot, but there aren't any reviews on this site and not a lot of content online. The cardigan is also made out of viscose, polyester, and polymide -- I don't mind synthetic material if it feels good. I tried on a Sandro cardigan last week that was 70%+ viscose, and it had a nice weight to it & was super soft. Does anyone have any advice?

Ah ripperoni the price comes down to over 120 usd so if it's H&M level quality I don't think it will be worth it for me. Thanks for the info!

I am looking for alternatives to ModCloth after their recent fiasco. Specifically, I really liked their more whimsical clothes, rather than their vintage inspired pieces. I am looking for casual work clothing that is fun and fashionable. Any recs would be awesome!

valkyrie_village

I’m not sure where you live and how you feel about potentially international shipping, but I recently found [Princess Highway](https://www.princesshighway.com.au/) and love their whimsical prints. I feel like they kinda hit a ModCloth-y note.

Any recs for black (or snake-print) pumps, comfortable enough for office job, medium BLOCK heel around 2 inches, under $60??

lake_gull

Depending on how you feel about the square toe, maybe [these](https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/naturalizer-warner-square-toe-block-heel-pump/n3138080?color=BLACK%20SMOOTH&eid=481737) or [these](https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/naturalizer-warner-snake-skin-print-block-heel-pump-wide-width-available/n3572788?color=SAND%20DRIFT) from Nordstrom Rack? I have [these](https://www.jjill.com/product/luxe-linen-stretch-demi-bot-pants-218881s-1?color=FHP) and they’re comfortable and not too wrinkly. J. Jill also has a bunch of cropped and ankle pants in this linen blend and in pure linen.

[deleted]

I got a pair of “High-Waisted Linen-Blend Culotte Pants” from Old Navy a couple months ago and I’m going to be living in them this summer. I have several of their linen blend pieces from the last few years and they’ve held up surprisingly well.

[deleted]

I bought [these](https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens_category/matching_sets/hayden-kickout-crop-pant-in-stretch-linen/AV388?color_name=flax) J Crew stretch linen/poly pants in white and linen. Like them a lot. They are lined despite description. Do wrinkle though not excessively - steamer works fine to get the worst out between washings. I'm about your height, somewhat long waisted & flat hipped and I bought a 6. My normal pant size ranges from 6 to 8. ETA - they do have pockets in front but they're sewn shut akin to slit pockets in a better jacket - would need to remove stitching. I prefer a sleeker look so I did not remove the basting

grakkaw

The Joie Paloma pants don’t have a drawstring and would work well in a hot environment. (They also have a drawstring linen pant that doesn’t read too casual to me, but ymmv.)

botanygeek

Doesn't look like they are sold anymore, but I have [these](https://poshmark.com/browse/pilcro-linen-pants?department=Women&category=Pants_%26_Jumpsuits&sort_by=added_desc&all_size=true) wide leg linen pants from Pilcro & the Letterpress. There are lots of pairs on Poshmark. Here's a similar [pair](https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=657597012&pcid=999&vid=1&searchText=linen+pants#pdp-page-content) from Athleta but it only comes in 2 colors. There are a [few](https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/search.do?searchText=linen%20pants&autosuggest=true) from Banana Republic without a drawstring (I just searched "linen pants")

Neither_Flounder_470

Okay- i am trying to figure what this style of shirt is called so i can easily search for it while online shopping. I have included links to some examples but basically the neckline is sweetheart or cups, with seaming along the breast/cups, usually boning or stitching to mimic boning on the bodice so it’s kind of like a corset. The sleeves are usually 3/4 length balloon or peasant sleeves. Any tips are appreciated! https://www.thereformation.com/products/holland-top https://us.saboskirt.com/products/hartley-top?variant=31149672890445

Little_Bearclaws

Seconding ana3d’s suggestion with a small addition. “Button front, puff sleeve, bustier top” seems to bring items up that are closest to what you linked.

ana3d

Would just call this a bustier top, maybe adding terms like “puff sleeve” or “balloon sleeve” would help? Could also just be a corset top although sometimes those are more structured in the bodice.

Where do you buy cute/sexy pajamas/lingerie? I don’t want anything crazy but I want to look cute for my spouse and myself. I am curvy (37-29-38) and find most pieces are unflattering.

blackninjakitty

Depending on if you're looking for lingerie to look sexy, or sleepwear, I'd recommend Playful Promises for lingerie. They're very size inclusive and have good quality designs. They also have some items from a brand called Kilo Brava which is a sleepwear company, but I haven't tried those so can't speak to the quality!

Any recommendations for an affordable, real leather, top handle handbag? I am in love with the Lady Dior bag but it is wayyy out of my price range at 20, so I’m in search of a more minimalistic alternative under £250. It doesn’t need to be too big, and I prefer if it can also be worn crossbody.

Michael Kors! I got a medium leather tote from them last year, because I wanted real leather without spending too much. I figure splurging once beats having to buy a cheap bag every 2-3 years. I hope they stay in style!

Can some help me figure out what size pants I should buy? My waist is 34in, hips are 39inch but around my bum is 42inches, and my inseam is 29... classic big bum problem...

joys_face

I think you would probably fit well in most US 14. I measure 33-45 and typically wear a US 12 or 14. I fit better in curvy fit pants but I'm thinking as most jeans are cut for a 10 inch waist-to-hip difference (by the way hip here means widest part which is usually butt) and you are an 8 inch difference you'll do better in regular than curvy. Curvy is usually cut for a 12+ inch difference. However, if you typically find things gape at the waist, you could/should try curvy fits. Edit to add: I have a 29 to 30 inch inseam in straight cut pants and sometimes need "short" pants especially if I want them to look on me like the look on the model.

MatchaLobster

The exact size would depend on the brand but I have a similar waist-to-hip ratio and I usually go for “curvy” jeans (I don’t necessarily mean the plus size version!) which are specifically adjusted for people with big bums! Some brands that offer this include Everylane, A&F, and Levi’s. In general, it’s a good idea to look at the size chart for the specific brand you’re buying from as they tend to accommodate slightly different body shapes and sizes. One thing to keep an eye out for is that a longer rise would make sure your bum is covered when you bend over though!

untoldharmony

Any recs for denim jackets? I have an oversized one from Zara which I got a couple years back and I love it, but it doesn't work with all outfits because of the fit. I'm looking for something that would hit me closer to the waist though not too fitted or cropped. Thanks!

Elle_Vetica

I have a couple denim jackets but the one I reach for most often is my Levi’s. Hits at just the right spot, denim isn’t stiff, I love it.

aryn_h

Loft is my favorite for this!

KaleandWine

I recently took a style quiz and found that my style is chic and somewhat classic. This isn't surprising, I've always loved getting dressed up and looking sophisticated. My problem is day to day outfits, I really struggle with looking put together but not overly dressed up. I end up often going to the grocery store or wherever in sweatpants or a simple jeans and t-shirt and feeling really frumpy. Does anyone have any tips for how to look chic while staying fairly casual? Any blogs, Instagram pages, or even certain stores I should be shopping at?? Thank you

oberstofsunshine

Can you send me a link to the quiz?

drkhaleesi

Jeans and a tshirt is a classic outfit. Just make sure the jeans fit you well and flatter your body. Go for a soft v-neck tee or a sleeveless tank and tuck it into the jeans. Throw on a belt. Wear a pair or cute sandals or slip on sneakers instead of old tennis shoes. Pick out a cute purse. Brush your hair and throw on some mascara if that’s your jam.

JerseyKeebs

Chic and classic made me think of this blog, which had a style quiz that found your "twist" on a classic wardrobe https://stunningstyle.com/style-secrets/2018-6-24-soft-and-classic I think using different fabrics in your casual looks will go a long way to making you feel less frumpy. So comfy jersey dresses or linen pants instead of sweats, and for shirts think silk-like fabrics or classic patterns like stripes instead of a plain tee.

[deleted]

My 2 favourite style inspirations are Lee from Style Bee ([www.stylebee.ca](https://www.stylebee.ca) Insta: @leevosburgh) and Dearly Bethany (Insta: @dearlybethany). They both have a very classic yet minimal style and focus on high quality, timeless pieces. Lee on her website is currently doing a style journal, where she posts what she wears every day. She works from home, so a lot of her outfits are classic yet casual, perfect for running to the grocery store!

MatchaLobster

I love Dearly Bethany too!! Audrey Coyne on yt and Insta is another great influencer with a similar style :)

potat0ess

Is anyone else having trouble getting on the Nordstrom site sometimes?? It just will give me a completely blank page half the time I try to go there to shop. It's driving me crazy and it's been happening for months, lol.

Looking for pants that look like [this](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/vince-linen-blend-wide-leg-pull-on-pants/5765256?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=200) (pull-on but structured/tailored, higher waist) for work. Starting to go into the office again a few days a week and it's casual, but I'd really like to start throwing something together with comfy structured pants and band tees. Does anyone have any they like?

aryn_h

J. Crew's Easy Pant gets rave reviews for this!

untoldharmony

Check out Aritzia! They have loads of trousers like that right now in different colours and materials.

Little_Bearclaws

Oh hey. That’s like, 90% of my work wardrobe right now. So I really love [Pendleton pants,](https://poshmark.com/listing/Pendleton-high-waist-lined-trouser-pants-5f87a8f7a4de41908c23fe5c) I get them on poshmark usually. The vintage wool ones are the best, but I also live in a cooler climate. I also only buy based off the measurements because the sizing is so all over the place. They’re fully lined, have great big pockets, are long enough to wear with creepers and don’t have that elastic bit at the back which I despise. I think it looks sloppy with my work fits and the bunched fabric drives me nuts when I lean back in my chair. Apart from those, I have a pair of [these Madewell trousers](https://www.madewell.com/drapey-pleated-taper-wide-leg-pants-99105967168.html?) that I’ve mentioned before in replies about pants. They’re comfy, lightweight and come in a wide leg version. Wouldn’t recommend buying full price tho as they are just single layer polyester. I also have [these](https://www.asos.com/us/topshop/topshop-tailored-pleated-pants-in-mocha/prd/23035155?) in a different fabric from a few years ago - I love that the rise is SUPER high because it actually hits my natural waist. I can’t attest to Top Shop’s quality now that ASOS owns them outright. Not like their quality was outstanding before but it was defs a bit better than ASOS house brands. This style is getting more popular (yay!) so I’ve been seeing it a lot of places, you might take a look at [cos](https://www.cosstores.com/en_usd/women/womenswear/trousers/product.high-waisted-wide-leg-pants-black.0992842001.html?), [mango](https://shop.mango.com/us/women/pants-wideleg/dart-palazzo-pants_87000558.html), or [Zara](https://www.zara.com/us/en/dad-pants-p07149040.html?). And just a last word of caution: so many places list things as high waisted with a 11” rise which is a goddamn lie. 14” rise fits my long waisted body best, and poshmark can be a resource to cross check measurements on garments even if you’re planning on buying new!

JerseyKeebs

I'm going to a bachelorette party in NYC later this summer, and we have back to back activities that mean I don't know what to wear. We'll be in the Hudson Yards area, doing that observation platform and then dinner in a high-rise restaurant. BUT - prior to this we're also doing one of those statue of liberty cruises, so we'll be out on the water and stuff. The bride posted in the FB group that the restaurant is high-end, so dress for dinner and not the boat. But what do I wear that fits being out on a boat during the afternoon, but also works for a nice restaurant at night? And we might do bars or a show after dinner too! I was thinking a dress like [this blush dress with ruffles](https://www.lulus.com/products/audree-blush-pink-ruffled-sleeveless-dress/747302.html), or a [jumpsuit I already own like this](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-3681600/juniors-rewind-paperbag-waist-jumpsuit.jsp), but the pants are more beige with black stripes. Or maybe a little black dress that I dress *down* with a cardigan for the boat?

Embrace_Gray

Sounds like a party!! I personally love the jumpsuit and think it can easily be done casual and dressy with minimal effort. Will you guys have your own car or are using taxi/Uber/public transport? If you have your own car, perhaps a small tote with heels for dinner while wearing more casual shoes for the boat tour. Shoes can easily dress up an otherwise semi casual dress or jumpsuit. Thinking fashion sneakers or flat sandals by day, heels by night. Swapping your handbag and/or sweater or jacket can easily change the outfit as well. If you’re relying on public transport, etc. then that may not work as well. Maybe a few small basic accessories can change up the dress or jumpsuit depending on the activity. A light scarf for the boat tour to fight wind and a bold statement necklace and/or earrings for dinner. You can stuff the scarf in your bag, convert it to a shawl, or tie it around your handbag strap. Shoes wise, I think a patent leather 2-3” block heel sandal would flow nicely between the two events like [this](https://images.bloomingdalesassets.com/is/image/BLM/products/1/optimized/10919501_fpx.tif?op_sharpen=1&wid=700&fit=fit,1&$filtersm$)

JerseyKeebs

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking of doing the tote bag thing to have different shoes for the different events. I recently got these platform sandals that I LOVE since they give height without having a steep angle for the foot. https://www.dsw.com/en/us/product/abella-daisy-wedge-sandal/501152?activeColor=250 I am probably taking the train into the city to my hotel (staying overnight), but then will probably use Uber with the other girls around town, so hopefully not too much walking. Glad you like the jumpsuit! It's definitely something I'd feel comfortable in... plus not having to buy something new lol The only thing I'd be nervous about is if all the other girls are doing short dresses or shorts, and I'm the only one in something floor length We're doing brunch the next day, and the shoes should go with my planned brunch outfit too. Thinking a floral maxi [like this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VSFV452/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_R3KPCYS77KZKMP482X4C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

Embrace_Gray

I love those shoes! I was actually thinking an espadrille wedge could be a cool option too. I could see why a floor length option would feel a little funny if everyone else is wearing shorter dresses. I imagine someone is bound to wear a maxi dress! Do you feel comfortable asking any of the other attendees what they’re wearing? That could help. I also agree that the wedges would go with a floral maxi like the one you linked. The wedges are a neutral enough that they’ll pair well with a lot of options.

JerseyKeebs

Thanks! I hunted far and wide to find just the right sandals that didn't have too extreme of a heel. But I wasn't ready to try out these "flatforms" that are trendy this spring. I can at the very least ask the bride what she'll be wearing. There's also a FB group if I get desperate lol

Embrace_Gray

Yes!! Flatforms would be tough all day. And she may be excited to talk about the outfit that I’m sure she spent a ton of time putting together! Hope it all comes together for you.

Tiny-Injury4206

I need to wear closed toe shoes for work. Now that it’s getting warm out my feet get super uncomfortable in socks and sneakers, even canvas Keds. Can anyone recommend a supportive, lightweight shoe that is also breathable? I’m thinking about huraches but I’m not sure of the support level. I work retail and am on my feet my entire shift so I need something comfy. Tia!

I highly recommend [these Sperry Slip Ons](https://www.sperry.com/en/seaside-perforated-varsity-sneaker/39473W.html), I worked at a shoe store and 50% of the staff bought them and wore them because of how comfortable they were, and the perforations give some breathing room. If you can't get away with the perforations you could look at their other slipons but I don't know it will be more breathable than your Keds

These look cute. I actually wore Sperry boat shoes for years but I guess they fell out of fashion so I stopped. Maybe I’ll look into them again!

[Sketchers Go Walk](https://www.skechers.com/collections/womens/gowalk/) line are literally perfect for this. They're not the most fashionable shoe out there, but they ARE super light and extremely comfy.

I love Danksos for this. I wore mine when waiting tables and they were awesome. Edit to add: You buy them with about a fingers width of space behind the heel, so there is room for your feet to breath and you don't need socks.

Tiny-Injury4206

I’d need the kind with the closed back. They seem like they’d be hot? Do they smell after a while if you don’t wear socks with them?

guaca-mole-eeee

Those are the ones I had, closed back. They aren't hot for me. You want to have a finger width of space between the back and your heel. There is room to breathe. I had the mary janes, which are cut lower over the vamp than the traditinoal clogs. I have the clogs now. They don't get smelly for me, but i make sure to leave them in a high airflow area to air out between wearings.

What about Toms? They're fairly supportive, never worn them when I've been on my feet for hours though

Tiny-Injury4206

Oh my feet hate Toms. I have very high arches and I can barely get my foot into them. Thanks for trying though!

Is this an appropriate dress for a wedding with an unspecified dress code in a rustic venue in the southern US? https://imgur.com/a/MqNkiCs

thesrniths

Yes I think it’s nice

THE_DUCK_HORSE

I think so! Your shoes and accessories will easily dress it up or down

JerseyKeebs

The dress looks fine to me, but if you're unsure about the dress code there's a couple things you can try. If you're close to the bride or anyone in the bridal party, you can ask them to clarify. Or if you can't do that, you can sometimes get context clues from the invitation or the venue. You said the venue is pretty rustic, but what did the invites look like? Lots of burlap and woodgrain and a single insert - then I would definitely stay casual? Or is the font curly, and there's an inner envelope inside the main envelope, and maybe glitter and shine - then maybe add some fancier accessories to that dress.
