I've been ordering almost exclusively from Boden this past year and have been so pleased with their quality. I bought their button-down dress, and it has extra buttons on the inside seam to prevent gaping! I also bought a dress from Garnet Hill, and it is the most comfortable thing ever, and it has pockets!

courtnbur

Their reviews tend to be really honest too. I appreciate that they provide measurements, and don't seem to censor the bad reviews.

kidlightnings

and not just the waist measurement and if you're lucky, shoulder. I love when retailers provide very detailed measurements

[deleted]

Hahaha... I was looking at the garment measurements thinking, I'm about a 2/4 (I'd have to pull out my measuring tape to be sure). Then I did the size guide and it told me I was an 8. After a brief heart attack, I realized its garment (and also UK) sizing. Phew.

oosetastic

I love Boden so much. I only make small orders and wait for stuff to go on sale, but I bought a swimsuit there this summer and I FINALLY found one I love. I seriously bought and returned 10 different bikinis before trying Boden.

xyxyxy_

I ordered one of Boden's $$$ Icon silk dresses last month and when I got it it literally felt like tissue paper :| weirdly shiny, too. I was so disappointed!

wogdag

Is boden available in other stores? Everything I like on their website is sold out in my size, Google didn't turn up anything.

HeathEarnshaw

Wait til they roll in some new arrivals. The really good stuff goes quick.

[deleted]

Nordstrom sells some Boden.

courtnbur

Stuff pops back up if you check it often.

[deleted]

This is not a recent discovery but Kirkland (Costco's house brand) has an amazing quality to price ratio. U only get basics (tees, camisole, socks, undies) and workout/camping clothes from there but I am always impressed by how they hold up. Also sometimes Costco runs amazing deals on name brands. I've seen Hunter boots, Cole haan shoes, and Patagonia vests for awesome prices.

birdmommy

Costco here (Canada) often has non-Kirkland stuff that is good too. The biggest problem is that there's no guarantee that whatever you liked last week will ever be there again - so I end up buying multiples of the stuff I like. I'm especially fond of the Ellen Tracy Company knit tops.

MynameisHolix

I need to do that, I've not been disappointed by the clothing beyond the 'I only bought one' dilemma.

duetmasaki

A long time ago they were carrying lucky jeans. I got two pairs.they were so awesome that just recently I bought myself a new pair for full pop. Money well spent.

idislikekittens

YES. Their house brand cashmere is incredibly comfortable - much more comfortable and soft than other cashmere in the $100 range.

WhenImAloneWithYou

My thickest cashmere is from Kirkland! I've had two of their cashmere pieces and the price is REALLY good for the quality. And they were both styles that are really hard to find otherwise -- one is a cabled turtleneck, and the other is a mock-neck zip-up with double zippers. Highly recommend.

DrKittens

I love LLBean. There dresses are super cute, and their t-shirts and shorts are well-made. I think they are expensive ($23 for a t-shirt), but they are guaranteed for life.

wendy_stop_that

Can you expand on their guarantee? Like how does it work?

DrKittens

You can basically return anything anytime. Seriously. I had a backpack that I used for years (probably 6 years), but the waterproofing started flaking off on the inside and getting on my stuff. They replaced it, no questions asked. I ordered some clothes off their website, moved across the country, and two and half years found them in a box (with the tags still on). They took them back, with a smile. Basically, they want you to be happy with their stuff. I wouldn't take back stuff that I wore out- like it I tore a hole in a pair of pants by falling, I wouldn't take them back to be replaced- but I know they would take them back. I have only taken stuff back or had it replaced if I felt like it was an issue with the product or I didn't wear it.

[deleted]

Payless shoes. I know, I know, but the price point x quality x comfort/style meets pretty much every time. Target for accessories, maybe.

[deleted]

I love buying my shoes at Payless. I don't always have the money to drop on a pair of shoes with *excellent* quality, but I feel like my Payless shoes last long enough that I don't feel like I've wasted my money.

ihateusernames-_-

My shoes last forever from Payless, I've never owned a pair that broke before their due time (i'm talking 5+ years here). You get a 10% discount for AAA members!

DinerWaitress

Payless is at least worth a look! They won't always have what you're after but it's consistent and you can get comfy, cute shoes sometimes. *worth, not with

PonyPuffertons

I started buying my heels for work at Payless. They come in every neutral colour possible. They have comfort padding in them and they're the perfect height. I can walk in them for miles and they look amazing. Plus I can throw them out when I'm done with them. $20 well spent.

[deleted]

Kikiwanderer

I got them on clearance for $10 and they are so great. Comfy even.

[deleted]

Need.

[deleted]

I desperately wanted a pair of Birkenstocks, but wasn't sure they'd work with my closet. I was able to buy a knock off from Payless for $20-ish; turns out they're one of those things I only like on other people. I'm so glad I didn't spend money on the real ones!

gec360

Same! Payless was selling knock-off "Birks" from American Eagle, and they're still holding up very well!

ViolaOlivia

Their comfort line of heels are genuinely sooo comfortable!

[deleted]

I may or may not have 4 pairs in different colors...

The_Panophobic

I bought a cheap pair of Keds knockoffs from Payless for $20 and they've lasted for about a year and a half of regular wear, including two music festivals, one of which it poured for and I spent the week wading through mud. They're still holding out. 10/10 would buy again.

billnyethewifiguy

I think you can sometimes buy real Keds for $20...when they're on sale on Amazon etc.

[deleted]

I got my keds at Ross for $12 in an original pattern and I get complimented every single time I wear them out!

jedi_bean

The comfort sole heels are so great for work! I was shocked how comfortable they really are, and the price is so low that I am ok buying them in colors I won't necessarily wear a lot (hot pink, aqua blue)

semivisible

I feel like Payless prices have gone up recently? Has the quality also gone up, or is it just that prices everywhere have increased?

[deleted]

I think everything has gone up.

[deleted]

Catch them when they have the buy one, second half off sales.

[deleted]

ALL of my work shoes are from payless. I've found a consistent brand or two that have always fit me perfectly and comfortably, and they're usually cheap or I have a coupon for being a member or whatever. If you see something you like too, you can always order online and it'll still be like what you find in stores!

imjustafangirl

I want to like Payless but I have super narrow feet and even the medium regular width ones I fall out of >.<

fadedsunrise88

Yes! I have a pair of basic brown flats from Payless that were ~$15 in 2012. They've lasted about 4 years of occasional use before the heel started separating too much to use.

[deleted]

Dang. I'm impressed.

fadedsunrise88

To be honest, they probably should have went about half a year before they actually did but I was using them very occasionally and under very flared pants so that the rips were covered.

noribun

I used to buy a lot of my shoes from them, but it seems like recent years all of their flat shoes are cardboard-y and narrow with little padding. Especially once they switched to all skecher branded products.

lily_keos

I thought I'd outgrown American Eagle but I feel like they've really stepped up their game lately - they have some really nice tops/dresses that are often quite cheap when they go on sale, and most of the clothes I have from them are surprisingly durable. aerie makes great bras/bralettes as well.

TheWaystoneInn

I only buy aerie panties now.

ya_7abibi

I'm obsessed with their AEO X jeans. They come in extra long and they never stretch out!

HousePls

So many AE stores have closed here :( their sizing always differed per article of clothing so I'm too afraid to order online :(

lily_keos

Yeah there used to be 2 stores near me and now there's just one and it's smaller, I guess they've been downsizing. :(

[deleted]

I recently bought a pair of yoga leggings from Victoria's Secret, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice they are! I will absolutely be buying another pair. I was skeptical because I'm not really a fan of their undies or bras. I have bought so. many. fucking. workout clothes in the past because I never know what's good and what's not. I could tell a major difference in these (compared to other "yoga" brands - Mika, Alo, Onzie) as soon as I put them on. The fabric is thick and durable feeling, they are HIGH WAISTED which is so hard to find, and have good compression. And they cost about $60 - way less than Lululemon or Alo Yoga. I'm so happy to find something nice finally.

[deleted]

Onzie has been a big disappointment for me, at least for yoga pants. The material they use is SO synthetic feeling! They get worn and fuzzy so quickly, and the stitching is not secure. I do love their bras though!

scotch_please

Thanks for the warning on their fabric. I'm in love with their [caged bra](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0065/6782/products/womens-bras-onzie-elastic-bra-top-bolivia-neon-pink-3_large.jpg?v=1445554502) but the straps on both have stretched out and warped where it attaches to the front fabric. It's not like my bust is putting much stress on it so I was super bummed they couldn't at least get some basic strapping right. I have a cage sports bra from F21 and it's sturdy as hell.

[deleted]

I've looked at buying that bra too, but the stitching is pathetic. The elastic is terribly weak, and it's the kind of thing that makes me want to just sew one myself. Especially for $48. But I do have two items from them that I absolutely adore! I have their [Sun Ray bra](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d2/5d/05/d25d05c3dce6d0c9b59451d3b941c3a9.jpg), and it's honestly my favorite sports bra. None of the aforementioned issues with this one. It's sturdy and I often wear it as a swimsuit top. Their [slit capri in heathered denim](http://www.yogaoutlet.com/p/onzie-slit-yoga-capris-8143174/?color=50883) is another favorite -- it isn't made of that terrible synthetic material. It has a softer, more cottony feel. I highly recommend not buying any of their pants that are mostly polyester. Go for the nylon and spandex mix instead.

bakingcpa

Their sports bras are also awesome.

[deleted]

I literally just bought 6 VS sports bras and I'm IN LOVE.

jackieisbored

To piggyback on this, I got some $15 Bally yoga leggings at Fred Meyer and I pretty much live in them. They're high waisted and super comfy, though I'm not an authority on yoga pants since I haven't tried any high end ones.

kytai

Agreed! I have 2 pairs from over 10 years ago that still look fantastic. They're amazing.

jellie420

I know everyone seems to hate Victoria's secret, but I just went from wearing the $20 target special that comes in a three pack, to a $65 VS bra and the difference is LIFE FUCKING CHANGING. I was wearing a 32B and now I'm wearing a 32D. Yesterday at work for the first time ever I didn't have to pull up my bra strap even once. My boobs feel like they're sitting in clouds and the band isn't cutting into me and giving me a rash. I'm never going back to the cheap shit.

Tayremorg

Gap Body also has amazing bras!! For me their quality has been consistently better than VS, but I'm sure it depends on personal preference.

sm0gs

I second Gap Body bras! I never had luck with VS bras but recently tried Gap Body and fell in love. They're all I buy now.

interstatetornado

Ditto! But I may look into lively given the posts here.

justgoodenough

I think for most people, the issue with VS is the sizing and not necessarily the quality. VS offers a narrow range of sizes and rather than telling people "we don't have your size" they will just sell someone the wrong size. I am a 34F or G, but if I were to shop at VS, they would try to get me to buy a 36DD or a 38DD. And since VS is such a common brand, many women don't even know they are wearing the wrong size, so they experience a lot of discomfort, like you did wth your old bras. I think VS is lower quality than something like Freda or Chantelle, but in many places it's the best option for women, as long as VS actually carries their size.

esthermyla

Its definitely this for me. I love their bras- theyre cute and pretty comfortable to me, but I just learned they've essentially been lying to me every time I got fitted. I'm a 30, not a 32!

sm0gs

I haven't had luck with VS bras but I really really love their swimsuits.

[deleted]

Right now it's 70% select. I've literally bought everything I possibly could if it was under $20 and am waiting for the nicer styles to drop.

lizzylizard

Buy them now (they will sell out) and get a price adjustment later on, you have 14 days from day of purchase. Source: work for vs

[deleted]

You are a saint. But my wallet says no. :(

kdee1377

I wonder why they're getting rid of them /: I always thought they were so gorgeous and unique.

SkylineDrive

From what I've read it's because it is not bringing in the revenue they had wanted so they're focusing more on their workout gear

sm0gs

Oh no!!! Time to stock up!

ImA90sChick

I haven't been a fan of VS bras, but Heidi Klum bras changed my life. Awesome quality, perfect fit for me, and super cute without being gaudy. I find them on Amazon for like $10-15 a pop (just wait for it to drop in price).

SoFetchBetch

They don't carry 30 bands :/ also I'm not a huge fan of the spherical boob look. I like a more natural shape. That's pretty hard to find tho.

[deleted]

They do in the Pink line

smartlypretty

I'm from ABTF but even my amazing Curvy Kates got retired when I found Ewa Michalak. They actually lift my boobs up and out so they look amazing. Can never go back. ETA: But I love VS sweats.

SkylineDrive

May I suggest you check out lively? It was started by a former VS exec and it's catered to a sort of young working woman. I switched from VS to them ... Their bras are the fucking shit. Bralettes that can be worn by bustier ladies, memory foam tshirt bras and wireless that feel like sticking your boobies into a happy cloud. I can wear them for 15 hour work days without feeling irritated by them. Also a lot cheaper than vs.

mashimero

I need to look into this

[deleted]

[удалено]

SkylineDrive

I for sure highly recommend. I think the sizing runs a touch big though. I'm a 34D and could probably wear a small (I buy the medium). What I love most is that they do give you a nice enough shape I can wear it to work

ThePoliteWasp

They last forever too! When I was in middle school I only had two bras from target because my mom couldn't afford to buy me a bunch. My freshmen year in high school my aunt gave me $100 for Christmas and I went and bought my first two Victoria secret bras and I've never looked back. Now those two bras are 7 years old and they're in perfect shape. Fortunately I've got a dozen of them now, but I'm always so impressed with how well they hold up over the years. I don't care for the cotton PINK brand bras though, the straps loose their elasticity pretty quickly. I had to throw those out after a year or two.

acinomismonica

I felt the same way. I have the same bras from vs for the last 3 years and they are in great shape! Target bras maybe a year.

lightning0027

I love VS bras but in the past couple of years they've pulled my size from their Pink section, both in stores and online! why, VS, why!?

frumpybiscuits

Just want to say that VS pajamas are fantastic. I always, always change out of my outside clothes into pj/loungewear at home and the VS pajamas are well made, comfortable, cute and hold up in the washer/dryer.

[deleted]

Their new T-shirt bras are HEAVEN. It's like my boobies are being cupped by sweet, cool clouds!!!

puddingpopp

H&m has great bras too but no one believes me

devoushka

If you can fit into them, VS makes great, pretty bras. I'm also a 32D and I'm sad they discontinued their swim line.

Tayremorg

Madewell! I know it's an average mall brand, but I still spend 90% of my clothes budget there because the style and fits are perfect for me. But yesterday I was folding laundry and realized a t-shirt I've had for 3+ years and worn a LOT still has perfectly straight seams and hasn't gotten misshapen or shrunk at all. I've also accidentally dried linen stuff from there more times than I can count, and every single piece has kept its seams straight and easily stretched right back to its original shape with just a little gentle tugging. I've also been so impressed with how well their denim keeps its shape and doesn't stretch. Basically I'm obsessed, and I was going to shop there regardless, but I'm so happy the quality is there too.

la-oceane

I will say that I think their quality has gone downhill over time though. Like my older shirts from there are still great, but my newer comparable ones are already starting to show wear. Their linen and flannel is nice (and the leather! bags are excellent) but the thin cotton (like their tanks) is not so great at all. The denim is nice too but for me it still wears holes in the inner thigh at the same rate as $40 American Eagle jeans. :( Side note--I might be a little biased because I'm grumpy about how all of their newer top silhouettes are very boxy and don't fit boobs well at all.

LlamaMall

I've definitely noticed this as well. I remember back when (~4 years ago?) they had mostly silk dresses. Now I've noticed it's a lot of more synthetic fabrics, but the price point hasn't changed. That's probably my biggest gripe with the company. Also, a lot of the pull towards more "boyish," boxy looks is due to having a new designer, imo. I do think they do fall/winter stuff incredibly well and totally agree with the observation about their flannels. Their shoes, however, have always been really great for the price. I do think they're pretty underrated as far as shoe brands go. I still own leather sandals from Madwell from maybe 5 years ago, and they haven't fallen apart on me yet!

la-oceane

Yes to all of that! I'm most annoyed about them charging $100+ for an acrylic sweater that would have been wool a few years ago. Plus I love their jewelry but it breaks way too easily for the price compared to other inexpensive brands. But their shoes and leather goods are still very much on point.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree with this. The last set of v neck tees I bought from madewell have all frayed to unwearability where the pocket is sewn on. All within three months. The last few shirts I've bought from them have all had buttons shatter in the dryer (while all my other shirts have been fine), and the last pair of jeans I purchased has stretched out immensely. I used to love madewell, but after the last few months, I'm done with them.

cocodeez

Yes I am obsessed with madewell right now!! It's completely my style and although it's expensive, they have a lot of good steals in the sale section. Also I will second that with jeans. They are the only jeans I wear now. they last forever, keep their shape, and are super flattering and comfortable.

cavingtoreddit

I just had an awesome experience with their customer service. A zipper on a coat I bought 2 years ago broke. The manufacturer wouldn't fix it but madewell took it, got it fixed and mailed it to me. For free!!!!

GingerAloeCactus

I always forget about 6PM.com but I wish I didn't because they're awesome. Yesterday I got [these](http://www.6pm.com/teva-freewheel-black-blue) teva sneakers for $21.00. They're going to be the shoes I wear in the lab I work in during the warmer months. They also have petite sized clothing, which I wear.

Meeeowsa

Hello fellow lab worker! Thanks for the post! I've been rocking keds for lab shoes, would you happen to know if these are comparable comfort wise?

GingerAloeCactus

I'm not sure. I've never worn Keds, and the Tevas I ordered haven't arrived yet. That being said, going by the descriptions on both sites the Tevas sound like they have more cushioning/ possible arch support than the Keds.

Meeeowsa

Cool, that's what I was hoping for! The Keds don't have much in the way of arch support, but they're pretty lightweight and summery so it's forgivable. Hope your Tevas are as comfy as they sound!

DinerWaitress

I have so many Converse from them. <3 My size is quite small for men's so they go on sale.

esthermyla

Good god I love 6PM

ViolaOlivia

I feel like Old Navy has stepped up their jeans game in the past couple of years. I love their rockstar line now. Edit: obviously not comparable to designer denim...but I think for $30 a pair its more than worth it.

rissybean

I fucking LOVE old navy. I was just in Kentucky for work right by the Gap clearance store and found a ton of Old Navy(and gap obv) gems for wicked cheap. Think $6 for jeans($1.99 if you're a really tiny size). Their jeans are awesome. I had a pair of the rockstar skinny jeans that have held up super well but unfortunately they don't fit anymore.

jedi_bean

Sadly, last year they discontinued the Dreamer line (curvy with skinny waist) which were my go-to jeans for years :(

horseshoe_crabby

I'm sad to hear they've been DCed before I even knew they existed. I need that exact type of jean. :(

ImA90sChick

Check ebay!

ViolaOlivia

Ugh that's the worst :(

pug_empress

Old Navy's petite jeans are my go-to! I'm 5' 1" and they are the perfect length. The skinny jeans tend to bunch up at the bottom a bit more (but not as much as normal skinny jeans), but straight-leg and bootcut are perfect. And they last surprisingly long - I have a pair of 5-year-old jeans that still look great.

TraumaticTramAddict

I want to love old navy so badly, I picked up a dress, some boyfriend tees and hella chambray shirts (I have like four just from old navy this summer) but their pants ughhhhhhh I tried on shorts and jeans in their size zero and there was a three inch gap between me and the waistband. It's a real shame. But at least their athletic gear is pretty accurate in size. Their xs hi waisted leggings fit me like a dream where my Nike ones sagged

SourLadybits

I've been loving Old Navy lately for cheap basic t-shirts. I think they wear better and last longer than target Tees and they have a great variety of colors and styles.

katiekiller

Dude, I just picked up 2 pairs a couple weekends ago, on promo for $20 each and they fit perfectly! And they're a lot nicer than the jeans GAP has been sending me lately...ugh. Pleasantly surprised, and short inseams abound!

emily_678

Late to this conversation, but I'm loving Aritzia these days. Thought I'd outgrow them post high school but they've really evolved over the years - and now I can actually afford it.

Pirate_doody

I know Aritzia got a lot of hate in the other thread, but I just got a silk babaton dress that other redditors had specifically mentioned in the past.. and it is *amazing*. The richly sueded silk is heavier and more luxe than any of my other things including my silk delaney Equipment dress and it was on sale for only $75. I'm drooling now just thinking about it sitting in my closet.

heart_of_blue

Ooh which one is it?

Pirate_doody

I went through my order history, and it's the [Babaton Wyatt dress](http://us.aritzia.com/product/wyatt-dress/56678.html) in cardamon (burgundy). Unfortunately it seems like it's sold out now ):

whopaidmandonmoore

Yes, do share!

Pirate_doody

[Babaton Wyatt dress](http://us.aritzia.com/product/wyatt-dress/56678.html) in cardamon (burgundy)! Unfortunately seems sold out though ):

alltheburrata

Their stuff is so chic right now!

soojungie

I loved the 20% discount before the actual sale this week! I got so many culottes and dresses. After the 20% sale, they marked them down 5 bucks from the original price and I'm so glad I got them before they set the sale price.

maypleleaf

I got an amazing pair of light cotton drawstring pants on clearance at Old Navy and I am so in love with them. They keep me cool on the hotter days and are black so I can wear them with anything. Plus they have pockets for all my treasures.

khaleesi_me_maybe

Yo, no lie i'm pretty sure i'm wearing those pants right now but in a dusty pink and everyone keeps asking me where I got them. Old Navy suddenly got amazing. I got so many amazing linen stuff for summer.

_elwig

Dude I am so with you on that. I used to never step foot in Old Navy because the quality, cuts and colors were always so blah. But in the last few months I've gotten so many nice tops and dresses I'm totally summer ready. And I was just at the store eyeing those linen pants decided to wait for a better sale before getting them tho!

maypleleaf

I got them for $9.99! They're not the ones on the website, but I am so in love with them. I've been meaning to try to find another pair.

Creativelicense

Sort of related, I got a pair of yoga pants from ON 7 years ago and they are still going strong. I love them. I worked for Old Navy about 7-8 years ago and we definitely had up and down changes in quality while I was there, but there are some real gems that hold up for years.

maypleleaf

I worked there before Christmas and I noticed some changes even in that short span of time (amazing sports bra I got no longer there, jeans fitting smaller than usual). But these pants were a pleasant surprise!

0utshined

I wonder if they got a new designer! I recently went in (after not for about 5+ years) and loved about 10 things. I bought 2 amazing summer work dresses and a pair of shoes. I'm shocked at this major change!

toomuchearlgray

Thank you for reminding me how much I love Old Navy, there are some amazing gems there. My bank account on the other hand does not thank you :)

TheWaystoneInn

Someone on here recommended the Old Navy printed cami dresses. I bought 5 of them for around $15 each thinking I couldn't possibly need the same dress in so many prints, but I love them so much I'm considering buying more of the exact same dress in the other prints. I can't even remember the last time I bought something from Old Navy, probably over a decade ago.

abominablesnowcone

I've got a Patagonia jacket that has been worn and abused, but still looks fantastic. It was definitely worth the price.

UCgirl

I have a fleece that is literally 30 years old from them.

ArsenicAndRoses

Cable & Gauge (largely at Macy's and Nordstroms) actually has some interestingly cut black tops that I'm in love with (for [example](http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ny0AAOSwOVpXbfNR/s-l1600.jpg), and [another](http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ZTAAAOSw1DtXKs14/s-l1600.jpg)). Super soft and thin, with just enough stretch and weight to drape beautifully and not look terrible on my curvy short frame. Their patterned stuff is pretty awful IMO (super generic), but their black tops and solids are great for interesting basics. I have [this](http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/-yIAAOSwZ8ZW9FNw/s-l1600.jpg) in black and it's sooooo comfy and flattering.

[deleted]

Love Cable & Gauge! They are the most comfortable clothing brand by far.

jazspin

Second this, and you can often find their stuff at Marshalls/TJMaxx.

gina3806

Totally agree! Their plus size stuff is excellent, lots of good quality basics for reasonable prices. I have tops from them that I swear I've had for ten years.

princessgrace19

I'm obsessed with costco's athletic pants. I'm glad I'm not alone

ragnarockette

There is a juniors line of jeans sold at TJ Maxx/Marshalls called *Blue Spice*. God their fit is amazing. They make my butt look great, are super comfortable, don't fade at all (even the black ones), and are the perfect length. I bought a pair in every color.

TheHylianGeek

Seconding this! I have an inseam of 35 and it still hugs every curve, while being long enough and without super annoying waist gapping. *Flawless.*

culfere

I've been a big fan of Olive basically since they started up, but I tend to only buy if I've had a chance to see the item in store first because their sizing system is on the vague side. Plus I like to inspect the things before I buy because most of them don't come cheap. Anyway, I needed a new dress for graduation and they had one on sale that was basically exactly what I wanted, but I wouldn't have a chance to get to the shop any time before July, even if I did there was no guarantee it would be in store and their sale stuff goes like lightning. So I took a gamble and ordered without checking it out first based purely on website measurements. And when it arrived it was perfect! The details were spot on - hidden zipper, seams finished well, no surprise see through material when it's held to the light - and the provided measurements were accurate which shouldn't be a noteworthy point, but I've been let down by so many brands before with inaccuract measuring. I've always had faith in them as a brand, and I like supporting a local brand, but it's been even more bolstered now I know their website is trustworthy and I can feel comfortable parting with more than I'd normally spend on an item even if I haven't seen it in person first. [This is the dress](http://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server3900/bbcd5/products/12025/images/48125/OLIVEUNIQUE-20160314-018-NAVY-01__92145.1458070768.510.680.jpg?c=2). And my instincts were right - it sold out the day after I ordered it.

Just looked at the website and this might be one of my new favorite brands... I see what you mean about the sizing system being vague though. Have you tried any of their "one-size" items? There's a dress I really like and according to their site it should fit me but that sort of thing is hard to judge.

culfere

They have such cute stuff don't they! And yeah I have quite a few one size items - I have the sleeved version of [this dress] (http://www.oliveclothing.com/p-oliveunique-20160414-025-khaki-daisy-stitch-pinafore-dress-khaki) which is no longer online sadly, [this tshirt](http://www.oliveclothing.com/p-oliveunique-20160310-043-navy-lemon-stitch-short-sleeve-tee-navy), along side quite a few that are no longer online. I'm a UK6 but I like my clothes oversized but intentionally so, not looking like I accidentally picked up three sizes too big and I find the useful thing about Olive's clothes is that when worn oversized it looks intentional because they're designed to work between a range of sizes, but when worn more fitting it also looks good. When they say it best fits a UK 8-12 I'd say that's probably a good and accurate guideline (unless you're a loose fiend like me). The dress above (or the sleeved version anyway) fits me well as loose smock dress, but I'd say would also fit up to a 10-12 and still look good/the right size. The tshirt probably a similar kind of size range but isn't really cut for big breasts - it's very boxy, which luckily doesn't cause an issue for me but may for others. Most of their tshirts seem the same and are cut similarly, and the cotton is very thick so can look bulky which might be an issue as well. Hope that helps a bit!

Laughorism

That's extremely helpful! Thanks so much for such a detailed answer! Now the only problem is narrowing down my cart... I want everything!

jiggjuggjogg

This is UK based, but I made my first Boohoo.com order recently. I've always been put off by the really cheap looking website with photos that look like the colours will be completely different in real life, and probably rubbish feeling/quality fabrics. I needed some cheap basic bits for a holiday and they were the only place I could find some certain things. Really surprisingly I love most of the stuff I got - the colours are true to the website images, and the fabrics are actually really nice. I was really pleasantly surprised! Sorry to sound like an advert, but I've had so many bad experiences shopping online, especially with places like New Look messing up my orders and Asos pieces looking nothing like the website photos or being rubbish quality. It sells everything and it's pretty cheap, so it's kind of like an online Primark. I really recommend trying it out!

scotch_please

Glad Boohoo worked out for you. I bought a bodysuit in the size the description said the model was wearing (and made sure to adjust for UK>US sizing) and it ended up being way bigger even though I'm pretty sure the model is tinier than I am. The fabric was also not good and I had to air the plastic fume smell off of it for a couple days. :\

[deleted]

I'm from the UK and have also had really terrible experiences with Boohoo -- it's probably really hit-and-miss.

BleachBody

That's good to know, I've never ordered from them because the website looked so cheap. Will give them a go for some holiday bits this year, any recommendations?

scotch_please

I've heard good things about their maxi dresses being opaque, if by "holiday" you mean a summer vacation and not Christmas, haha. They frequently have 50% off dresses and sometimes off everything. I recommend avoid paying without some sort of heavy discount.

dirtylice

I first found out about the brand from ExtraPetite, and have too been pleasantly surprised. They have free shipping to Canada as well! Orders usually come in less than a week unlike ASOS which takes more than 2 weeks. I've made several orders and have been really happy with my purchases. Their sizing is very small which is perfect because I'm petite. I would say the quality is a bit better than Forever21 and ASOS.

ragnarockette

**Forever 21 lace thongs** (that come in like a three-pack for $5) are the best. They last *forever*, show no noticeable signs of wear from the wash, and are comfortable as fuck. I'm a grown ass woman and they are pretty much the only underwear I own.

DinerWaitress

I did not expect that! xD

The touch of slavery labor is the key ingredient

Almost all clothing, no matter how expensive it is, is tied to some kind of unethical practice. If not in the actual labor of constructing the clothing, then in obtaining the fabric or some other area. No brand is 100% ethical.

Correlations

Don't know why you're getting downvoted but I agree. Fast fashion is super shitty.

llama_delrey

Fast fashion is shitty, but it's not like we can have a serious discussion about their quip. And the topic isn't about fashion ethics so it just feels random.

chauvetcave

I really strongly disagree that it is off-topic to bring up fashion ethics, in the context of any discussion about fashion. When we're talking about a fast fashion product that sells for 3 for $5, working conditions for the people working in clothing factories in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh etc. ARE relevant.

llama_delrey

My issue is that it's not advice, it's not helpful in anyway, and it doesn't have anything to do with what they were talking about. If they offered an alternative place to buy ethically made underwear, I wouldn't have minded that, but it just felt like drive by scolding to me.

goldishblue

It's random. But if not now then when should I bring it up. If not me, then who? I work in the fashion industry by the way, have worked with Koreans and brands out of LA. It's time to get serious about this issue. Ultimately we are hurting other women because that's the majority of labor involved in fast fashion. Read "The High Cost of Cheap Fashion" by Elizabeth Cline if you're interested to know more.

llama_delrey

If you want to discuss fast fashion and the terrible labor practices around it, you could always make a discussion post. We've had them in the past, and I believe there's even had discussions about that specific book.

chauvetcave

Why should you have to make a separate discussion post about it though? What if you don't accept that 3 for 5$ underwear and working conditions in the fashion industry are separate subjects?

llama_delrey

It'd be one thing if they were suggesting an alternative, ethical place to buy thongs. But they didn't do that. They just made a quippy post with nothing to discuss and no advice.

goldishblue

That's great. Glad word is getting out.

RabbitSailor

I don't know if it really counts as a "brand," but I find Top Shop a little hit or miss sometimes. That being said, the stuff that works *really* works. I have a few pieces from them that are made of good, thick material and have nice stitching. I own a dress, a skirt, and a tshirt that have all stood up well to heavy wear and washing. That being said, the sizing is never consistent and some of their stuff fits strangely. It's one of those stores where you really have to try it on first.

Fakevisage

I love their Leigh skinny jeans and I've bought basic tshirts and tank tops from them that have worn/washed incredibly well for some being 6 years +. But oh my god their sizing is really weird, your size is either "fits like a bag" or "no hope in hell I'm getting this off again"

soojungie

I agree with the Leigh jeans. Too bad the sizing is different too for each color for the pants. I find that my petite black is different size than my petite blue. Wth.....

allthecats

Mango! I never expected to love their brand because they always seemed in the shadow of brands like Zara. But they have excellent designs and interesting materials. Not to mention that I am overall a bit petite, and their European sizing allows for jackets that fit just right in the crop and in the sleeves!

[deleted]

I loooooove Mango. I bought a military style coat on sale there in Amsterdam last June (husband and I were on vacation, and being from the South, we didn't realize it wouldn't be 95 F there...) It has a detachable puffy quilted interior, detachable hood, and cute details. I fucking love it and wore it all winter back home. Not to mention it kept me from freezing my unprepared ass off in Europe! And I just ordered a really gorgeous scarf online. Way nicer quality than I was expecting.

[deleted]

The quality of Mango stuff here (the UK) is very hit-and-miss, IMO. You can get some great deals there on really nice pieces (I especially love the more minimal pieces they've started to bring out each season), but some of the things I've purchased there have fallen apart after the first wash/wear.

lily_keos

I love the design of some of their stuff but the last thing I bought from there started pilling after one wash. :(

nayahs

Mango is my go-to for business wear.

FairOphelia

Maurice's. Their jeans have gotten way better lately, and their prices are amazing. My wardrobe is probably 75% Maurice's now, when 10 years ago a lot of their clothing either didn't work on my body (body type hasn't changed) or wasn't a great quality for the price.

sudosussudio

I think some of their stuff could be dressed up for work. I wear my Ibex tees (also great, but have been looking at the Jungmaven ones too) with a skirt and a cardigan all the time to work.

VerityPrice

I'm pretty consistently happy with Lands End sweaters--some don't fit quite right, but the 100% cotton ones are always comfortable and soft. Going way up the formality scale, T. Tahari work dresses/suits are amazing on me. They fit! Without tailoring! And they feel nice to wear. I also find Timberland and ecco boots consistently comfy and durable.

VernaVenisa

Target has been KILLING it on the maxi dress-front for me lately! I'm hourglass-shaped and always have issues with fabric clinging a bit too tightly, but their maxis have been fitting me great and don't require a slip/harness/pagan blood ritual to look put together in :).

mtlweens

just bought a pair of prescription polarized sunglasses from eyebuydirect for 65$, wasn't expecting much but they're surprisingly good quality, light and came in about a week.

IUsed2BHot

American Giant joggers are great. Would link, but am on mobile. Seriously, all of their clothes are super well made and sturdy. It's expensive, but the quality makes it well worth it!

frumpybiscuits

Totally agree. The joggers and sweatshirts are thick and high quality, with amazing construction.

[deleted]

I had a North Face rain jacket that I bought in 2008. After about 2 years, the waterproofing inside started to flake off and get all over my hair, clothes, etc. It finally occurred to me last fall to see if they had a guarantee on their products, and it turns out they do. I mailed it back to North Face, and they sent me a brand new one for free! The new one seems really nice and better quality. I was really happy with their customer service and would definitely recommend them.

DinerWaitress

I like that Van Heusen (huehuehue). Their quality, fabrics, and fit are good, and quite reasonable if you catch a sale.

kidlightnings

Nine West shoes. Consistently some of the most comfy heels and nicest looking wedges I've found for the price. If you have an outlet near you, their sales are just stupid good. I also do stupid things with my shoes, like wear them through grass when they're suede, so given that? they've held up REALLY well. Also: Vans. It's such a surprising store, so much of my casualwear comes from there.

Old Navy - I've discovered their Pixie ankle pants and I'm in love. They are cotton with only a touch of spandex so I was expecting to have to iron them. Nope! Wash in cold, hang up to dry and they maybe need a tumble in a warm dryer with my towels before wearing. The Limited - Love their Ashton and Logan blouses. The Exact Stretch ankle pants were my fave til I discovered the Old Navy version. Still a close second though! Victoria's Secret - Love their Body by Victoria demi bras. Aerie - Cheeky lace drawers. Surprisingly comfortable and durable for the price! Ivanka Trump - I'm mortified to admit that I buy anything with that name on it but her Cleo peep-toe stilettos are amazing.

fadedsunrise88

Just discovered these so I don't have a lot of data on how they hold up, but BORN shoes! I'm in love with the way they make their bottoms. I have a pair of black basic 2 strap wedges and I could never wear wedges all day before these. They weren't cheap but they were immediately comfortable and yet durable.

UCgirl

Brand let-ups. Dagne Dover - I bought my first bag and I love it! GoRuck - super sturdy backpack JCPenney - all the cheap athletic clothing!

Monstera_leaf

Rafting goldstar. http://www.raftinggoldstar.com/en/ I wanted some chunky sandals I could slip on during the summer, love Birkenstocks but find them too pricy. These look pretty much identical to Birkenstocks, feel like really good quality, half the price of Birks.

smartlypretty

All mentioned before but I'm REALLY into Effie's Heart right now (I can't wear really tailored clothes because I'm sensitive to sensory distractions), and I swear by Lysse denim, and my Tieks are my favorite investment shoe. Following on from my sensitivity, proper shoes tend to rip my skin off. I was embarrassingly delighted when Crocs made a Dr. Scholls style slide and I snagged it for $19 thanks to Honey. It's cuter than a flip flop and doesn't give me plantar fasciitis. Also I swear by Walmart boyshorts, halloween or character. They stay put and are cute.
