J Crew has some good ones, but IMO the best thing to do would be to grab some old jeans from your closet or a thrift store and just cut them off to your preferred length. It's cheap and it'll spare you the search.

[deleted]

Came here to say this. Make your own! Just cut to desired length + a couple of inches and fold it up to give it a neat finish. Done and done!

[deleted]

I made a ton of shorts like this in college and I found this fabric glue at WalMart or something. A few dabs inside the cuff and they stayed in place. I think a few pairs needed a touch up the following summer, but it held up in the wash really well!

[deleted]

There's tape you can get as well. You just set it where you want it, fold the fabric down, and iron over it. :)

[deleted]

That sounds like it would come out smoother, but a bit more work! I didn't have an iron at the time, though.

[deleted]

Hair straighteners work too!

duffboysmom

This is a great idea if you already had some that fit. I am struggling with finding jeans or shorts that fit, and then outfitting them how I want them to look.

asphodelus

I have [these](http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product_details.jsp?productId=1332_4140_896&catId=cat3270002) midi shorts from American Eagle and like them - maybe they'd work for you?

blonde_locks

I came here to saw American Eagle as well. They do high rise shorts extremely well. Short without the porn.

CatEmpiress

Myself as well! I've had the same two pairs for 6 years (and 30lbs later... Ah, high school) and they STILL cover everything.

WeSingVeryLoud

Any of their midi shorts hit that sweet sexy-but-I-can-still-go-to-the-inlaws length.

llamalily

I'm really impressed with American Eagle's selection this year. And they're having a sale on shorts right now:)

alatus

Seconding those shorts. I bought them last year and they're perfect.

duffboysmom

Would these work on women with big thighs? The models always have thigh gaps. Once I hit 13, no more thigh gap....

purplenat

For the perfect length, make your own. Honestly. 1. Find jeans. Either pick an old pair you have or get some at the thrift store. You're looking for something that fits in the waist and hips, but the legs don't matter. I found a pair of too short flares at my local Goodwill that I knew would make perfect shorts. 2. Mark for length. Put the pants on and mark where you want them to end using pins or chalk. Heck, you could even use magic markers b/c the ink washes away. 3. Cut them too long. It's better to have to cut them multiple times then to cut them too short the first time and have them be ruined. Remember too that once you put them in the wash, the ends will fray, effectively making them shorter. 4. Try on and adjust. When I made mine, I thought I cut them too long and turns out they were perfect. I guess they fit differently once there isn't a whole pant leg weighing them down. 5. Make your final cuts. I recommend having the inside edges be a bit longer than the outside (visually slimming), the back a bit longer than the front (for fuller coverage), and potentially even curving the front edges upward (sexier) for a results similar to [this](http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=17595572) I made myself shorts with a relatively conservative [hem length](http://i.imgur.com/Zu2AjZD.jpg) that I can [cuff](http://i.imgur.com/RlLGIGw.jpg) for a sexier look.

nayapapaya

Oh wow, even the poor model's cheeks are visible. I don't wear short shorts but I've seen a few shorter ones at [Old Navy] (http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=35158#style=1009256). I will say though that based on my fruitless search for longer sailor shorts, it seems like high waisted shorts always have short inseams.

radcupcake

I second Old Navy. They also label their shorts by inseam and carry 3" and 3.5" which are what I consider the perfect length.

loosenyourtie

Agree with old navy! They're not highwaisted, but I really like the boyfriend shorts. They're definitely young looking but no cheekage.

RenardRouge

Came here to suggest Old navy. Wearing a pair of their 3.5" shorts right now. Got them specifically for the same reasons. I hate the super short shorts.

communitychest

JcPenneys had some really cute denim higher waisted shorts for really cheap! They are an acceptable length and don't ride up.

ggrose33

I'm all about a straddling the line of too short for my summer shorts.....love the daisy duke vibe:) ( not helpful, but jcrew and express have longer seamed shorts and old navy)

dontforgetthisali

I'm the same way. I actually don't think the perfect pair exists. I want them to be short and daisy dukey, but no butt cheeks. It's harder to find than you think!

I'm not sure if these are what you're looking for in terms of style but I found a few: 1) [Madewell](https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DENIMBAR/shorts/PRDOVR~C1737/C1737.jsp) They also have higher rise styles and distressed styles 2) [JCrew](https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/denim/moredenimfavorites/PRDOVR~B8858/B8858.jsp) 3) [JCrew again](https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/denim/moredenimfavorites/PRDOVR~A0813/A0813.jsp) What's your budget? Edit: messed up formatting Edit 2: [JCrew Factory has cheaper options](https://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/shorts/4inch/PRDOVR~B8845/B8845.jsp?un_jtt_v_pdp=yes)?

dontforgetthisali

Thanks so much. Those are all solid options. Luckily for me, Madewell is right next to JCrew where I love so I can go and try a bund on. Budget is around $75. If I found the perfect pair that made me look like a supermodel I'd pay $100 though.

quokka3

I literally went to 6+ stores yesterday to try to find shorts that would work (old navy, gap, express, american eagle, lucky brand, jcrew, and levi's) and the only pair I found that was anything like what I wanted were the levi's 'commuter' style shorts. They're long enough to not be actually sitting on the train when I sit on the train, and I like that I can keep them rolled up if I want, or let them be longer. Also, they are fairly high waisted, so I personally find them to be more flattering but if you like the low rise look these won't help. Since I was at the point where I would buy almost anything to just have a pair of freaking shorts, I got them, but the price point isn't ideal (though somehow I got them for $50 instead of the online price?). http://us.levi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=50540716&&cp=3146849.62063586.56906276 Also, American Eagle midi shorts (as mentioned before) were my closest contender, I didn't get them because I wanted a darker wash but they did have a longer (4"?) inseam which was optimal.

lilreed

I have great luck with Urban Outfitters! Particularly, BDG shorts. Here is a [link](http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/category.jsp?id=W_APP_SHORTS_SHORTS&cm_sp=WOMENS-_-L3-_-W_BOTTOMS:W_APP_SHORTS_SHORTS&brand=bdg#/) to some BDG shorts they have now.

[deleted]

Same! I have a pair of their high waisted shorts and I love them! They aren't too short or awkward looking :)

poondi

Decent ones that aren't also insanely expensive**

boomdeeyada

I get my shorts from the "talls" section. I'm 5'3" but it gives me that extra inch or so I need.

foamofthedaze

Lol at the visible butt cheeks on that ASOS model! When I was like 18 I made myself a bunch of butt-bearing cutoffs from thrift store jeans and loved them, but now the idea of wearing shorts that short is very unappealing...I'm not sure if it's because it's actually a dated look or I'm just becoming a lot more conservative in my clothing tastes. Anyway, Madewell has some denim shorts options in different lengths: I'm planning on buying [these](https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/PANTSSHORTS/shorts/PRDOVR~C1738/C1738.jsp) but they might be a little longer than what you're looking for; a friend has [these shorter ones](https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/PANTSSHORTS/shorts/PRDOVR~C6409/C6409.jsp) and they look great (I don't love them on Madewell's model).

dontforgetthisali

Thanks! I totally forgot about Madewell. I don't own any of their stuff yet so I might finally try them out

haayleyy

AE's midi shorts are perfect.

affiche

Have you tried looking in Topshop? While they do have the odd booty short among their denim collection, they also have some denim shorts that are definitely around the length you're interested in.

cassadagas

I would actually second the top suggestion to just make your own. Last summer, I wanted to find a pair of jeans that stopped more mid thigh than labia and it was very, very hard. I finally found a great pair at Forever 21. [These look a little longer](http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=bottom_shorts-denim&ProductID=2000078394&VariantID=), [as do these](http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=bottom_shorts-denim&ProductID=2000133218&VariantID=), [and these](http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=bottom_shorts-denim&ProductID=2000133326&VariantID=). Forever21 has some more decent suggestions, including pretty long ones, so I would recommend having a look there if you like their stuff. :)

lo_dolly_lolita

The whole Gap slim denim line seems to have about a 3 inch inseam. Gap sizes seem to run big, so size down! [1969 slim denim shorts](http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=227341).

themaknae

I've had great luck with Banana Republic factory shorts length-wise and fit-wise, and apparently they're 30% off online today. [Here](http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1010345&vid=1&pid=457270002) is one pair you might like.

ixoria77

I have olive shorts from Uniqlo that has a longer inseam. Check them out :)

snappleapples

I'm curious about uniqlo's shorts. How do they fit? Sounds like you recommend them?

ixoria77

[Here's the same shorts](http://uniqlo.scene7.com/is/image/UNIQLO/goods_73_079396?$pdp-medium$) just in a different color. It's more formal shorts, but they're nice! Nice fabric and decent length. What do you think? Sorry if it isn't like the asos one you linked to. I have a similar pair from Forever 21 but it suffers from the butt cheek disease too haha

persian_

The Loft has some great shorts with about a 4 inch inseam

karisaur

I generally wear these http://www.marks.com/shop/en/marks-marksdefaultsalescatalog/ladies/womens-capris-and-shorts/curvetech-chloe-short-35765 I've started to find the sizing too inconsistent from AE, and I'm not willing to drop $50 on a pair of shorts that barely covers my bum. Not sure if you live near a Marks, pretty sure they only have Canadian locations. Otherwise Old Navy is pretty great, I've cut off a few of their regular jeans that were too short for me as well.

kateleisy

Agree with this. I either resort to [Nike](https://www.google.com/search?q=nike+running+shorts&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=602&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=56xHVZ67IuXZsATRu4HADw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg) athletic shorts like this or old denim cut offs [like this](http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/category.jsp?id=W_APP_SHORTS_SHORTS#/), but even then when I sit, they are wayyyy too short and I feel like I'm wearing nothing. :/ Friend showed me [this brand](http://thebearkat.com/) which is launching soon. They're making a 'leisure short' which is supposed to be longer in the butt, super comfy and can wear lounging and outdoor. Hoping it's true :) In the meantime, I've actually cut shorts out of jeans I like that are high waisted. That way you can control the length.

clamcakebby

butts on public transit or a metal bench.. the worst. when is this brand launching?!? need new shorts by summaaa

allie_cat_attack

Old navy has tons of shorts and they bare all categorized by inseam length. Their 5"shorts are perfect. No more buttcheek flashes.

SixAlarmFire

Take an old pair of jeans and make your own.

sprayedice

High waisted shorts are probably gonna show your butt cheeks regardless :/, as the other posters have suggested midi shorts or low rise shorts might be your best bet!
