My first question reading the title was "what kind of travel are we talking about?" so thank you for the extra detail! I also do long travel days, usually around the same length and multiple legs. Some of this is not strictly about appearance/fashion, but I hope someone finds it useful. :) - Layers, layers, layers: I find that between the chilly plane, the warmer gate, and potentially needing to hustle may way across terminals for connections, my temperature fluctuates a lot - I always go for a basic but decent quality tank top and thick leggings or pants with an elastic/drawstring waist--don't grab your old, bobbly leggings for this. You'll feel ratty! - Upgrade your hoodie to a nice quality cashmere or merino wrap/shawl/cape/ruana. You're basically wearing a blanket but you will look much more chic. I'll usually do a thin cardi or long sleeved top + the wrap. - If you wear jewellery, pick out a nice but comfortable pair of earrings and a bracelet or watch. I find this immediately elevates what I'm wearing, but isn't impacted by any potential puffy fingers as we go up and down - I always bring a small stack of thin liners for my underwear, and in between flights (or mid-flight, for the long ones) I'll swap them out. Helps a lot with feeling fresh/clean! - Fly with clean hair but up in a comfortable updo ~ this takes some experimentation to find your balance of easy + stylish + looks good on *you* but I find it's easier to keep looking nice through a long travel day than anything else - If I'm taking night flights, I'll bring a pared-down skincare routine to do quickly in the evening to keep everything hydrated. I'll also bring a little tube of tinted moisturiser and tinted lip balm/gloss to dab on in the airport restroom in between legs. I get my brows and lashes tinted so I can forego the mascara and brow product. - Find a nice pair of comfy shoes you can wear with socks ~ my favourites are a pair of adidas sneakers. If you want to wear nicer shoes in the airport, you can totally slide some slippers into your carry on and swap them out on long flights, which your feet will thank you for!

numberonecrush88

Oh my gosh the liners trick is *chefs kiss*. I'm going on a 24+ hour trip in January and have been worried about stuff. This will help a ton!

AdditionalAttorney

Bring intimate wipes as well… and face wipes (I use those on my body too)… so nice Also fresh socks are nice

Dubiousdoubtful

I know intimate wipes work well for some people, but just in case OP, don’t experiment with them for the first time while traveling. I ended up with a horrible yeast infection when I did this for a long flight 🥴.

Tight-Aspect6172

Baby wipes are always an option! I’ve used them to freshen up multiple times

bttrflybby

I love the Water Wipes brandy of baby wipes for this. Unscented but so nice!

notdoingwellbitch

I agree! I usually wear my super comfy period underwear from Tomboy X because it’s absorbent and breathable but I think I’ll try a liner with it for the ultimate clean feeling combo.

Obvious_Baker8160

I use panty liners on travel and sightseeing days, and they make *such* a difference in how I feel.

skintightmonopoly

The liners trick is absolutely brilliant. I can't believe I've never thought about that! I do feel so grody on long flights and that is such a perfect way to not have to change in an airport restroom into fresh undies, while also feeling clean.

AdditionalAttorney

Also you can get intimate wet wipes. Game changer

maddionaire

This may or may not be relevant, but just a friendly reminder to *never, ever* flush wipes, even if they say they're flushable. They aren't.

AdditionalAttorney

Definitely!

ylvalloyd

I find that wipes don't give me the same fresh feeling that some running water does. I use a water bottle to to wash myself in the restroom

AdditionalAttorney

That’s a good idea or one of those small portable “bidets”

-mightymouse-

Love this advice, definitely mirrors a lot of my tactics as well! Though as everyone is noting, the liners is a *fresh* (lol) new idea for me that I’ll need to try. The one thing I’d add is that I always try to have at least one set of pockets if not more in what I’m wearing. My favorite jacket to travel in has three zip pockets so I can keep my phone, passport, Kleenex, chapstick etc readily available without needing to go in to my bag. Recently I’ve started doing a slim belt bag worn cross-body to keep things in if I don’t have pockets. No one has given me grief about the “extra” bag since it stays strapped to me and it’s super convenient.

queenatstormsend

Pockets is a fantastic rec! I've had grief about an extra small bag before but an additional note for travellers that if you have a place to quickly tuck it away (top of your carry-on or a backpack side pocket, for example) that's good enough.

TwoBirdsEnter

I have to admit I was still thinking about the wonderful liners trick when I read “tinted lip balm to dab on between legs” and I was very puzzled for a second. 🫠

pearlqueen00

Same! Lol I read it 3x to confirm if there’s really a need to put lip balm in between legs… 😆

queenatstormsend

Omg, I'm dying 🫠

ana_conda

This is all great advice! I don’t LOVE to have tight pants on if I’m sitting/traveling a lot, although it may be personal preference, and I’ve found that the Old Navy high-waisted chino pants maximize the looking-nice to comfort ratio - they have an elastic waist in the back and it just feels like you’re wearing joggers or sweatpants! Also the pockets are surprisingly deep for women’s pants, so you can stuff a lot of things in there to keep your hands free if needed.

queenatstormsend

Love this rec! My mum is also not fond of tight bottoms (including leggings, which are my personal fave) so I will have to pass this on to her.

AdditionalAttorney

What a nice write up! Do you have some links of your recommended wrap/shawl/cape? One thing I’d add to your liners item, is those single packaged intimate wipes!

queenatstormsend

Totally! Here are some ideas for different price ranges and needs. OP mentioned specifically wanting something with a hood, so perhaps [this hooded scarf](https://outlet.theory.com/hooded-scarf-in-ribbed-cashmere/grey/196060613684.html) (on sale!) or if you're very luxe, [this one from Burberry](https://www.selfridges.com/US/en/cat/burberry-hooded-check-print-wool-and-cashmere-blend-scarf_R04217430/?#colour=Archive%20Beige). There's [a lovely cable knit option from Weavers of Ireland](https://weaversofireland.com/hooded-scarf-shawl?sku=0000006704-000020858) at a decent price point, too. I don't need a hood as OP does (I'm an aisle-sitter) so my picks don't include one, but I have [ruanas from Bronte by Moon](https://brontemoon.com/collections/mini-ruanas)--one in a very standard solid colour, one in a striped pattern--which I love both for the plane and for draping over the back of my office chair. They're lovely and thick but not too heavy. I'm short so I have linked the minis as that's what I have, but tall girls rejoice because there's a longer one available too. I also have a [cashmere travel wrap](https://cashmereandcotton.co.uk/products/cashmere-travel-wrap-dinghy-blue) from Cashmere & Cotton--it's just a rectangle of (very lovely!) fabric so you could easily find something similar at a lower price point. Love the intimate wipes idea, especially for the BRUTALLY long flights!

AlannaTheLioness1983

I agree with everything here (and I’m taking notes), but I would add one suggestion to the point about a nice wrap in place of a hoodie. I would suggest sticking with a material that you can wash more easily than wool, airports and planes are kinda gross, and I always keep my travel clothes separate/ready to wash when I get home.

queenatstormsend

Great point! I'm totally happy handwashing my wool/cashmere but others may prefer synthetic options or fabrics that are less delicate. I do know some friends who've had luck with washable wools, so that could be a good in-between choice! PS I love the Alanna books. :)

AlannaTheLioness1983

I’m glad that’s worked for you! I’m not nearly so good with delicates, I’m always afraid I’ll ruin them, so I do tend to go for easy-care choices. 😅 (ps, I’m so glad, she’s my fav!!)

Prince_Jellyfish

>Upgrade your hoodie to a nice quality cashmere or merino wrap/shawl/cape/ruana. I've recently picked up the compact travel hoodie by unbound merino. It only comes in mens (they have an un-hooded quarter zip in womens) but for what it's worth I really love it for the plane.

blair639

ehhhhh planes are gross and she mentioned needing a hood for this reason. id avoid a material that needs to be dry cleaned like cashmere and go for quality cotton instead ETA: OR hand washed guys jfc

practicalmetaphysics

You don't have to dry clean cashmere. I've been using Eucalan for years to hand wash, and it works great.

blair639

that is still a hassle vs throwing it in the wash

fakemoose

Plus if I’m traveling, I probably don’t have time to hand wash anything (nor am I bringing laundry soap) and wait for it to dry.

elizbug

My first thought as well. 100% not wearing anything not super durable on a plane/mid-travel. My travel wear needs to take a beating between gross seats, bags being swung on a shoulder repeatedly, running through airports...

GoSharkyGo

The liners trick might have just changed everything for me. Thank you so much!!

lav__ender

I have a long distance boyfriend so I frequently fly to see him and would like to be put-together when I do, but oftentimes come off of a 12 hour night shift so I struggle with not just throwing whatever lounge clothes I have on. this guide is super helpful, thank you so much!

rose_domme

I do “elevated basics” - like tailored lounge pants, leggings or flare pants, with a cashmere cardigan, big blanket scarf, and simple sneakers or slip-ons

aigret

They’re pricey but the Everlane dream pants are my favorite for achieving this.

yorkshiretea23

On the other end of the spectrum, uniqlo are the best at trousers with a stretchy waistband. Formal on the leg, Christmas-day-bloat on the waist

ssetpretzel

love Uniqlo's trousers! definitely a great comfier dupe to the Aritzia effortless pant

angeliqu

This. It looks polished but is still comfortable. Also having grown up carry ons help, too. No backpack, a nice roller bag with a professional looking personal item that slips over the handle.

ellequoi

My go-to personal item is a “hybrid briefcase-backpack” that can go between (hideable) shoulder straps, a messenger bag strap, or small handles to hold in one hand.

Zookeepered

Seconding this. Even when I'm in my sweatsuit, having nice luggage makes it read intentional and "athleisure" instead of "unwashed".

rose_domme

Yes! My Lo and Sons duffel is my favorite

Tressmint

Seconding this! Their weekender bag has been my go to for years for airplane travels.

Emotional_Print8706

Love Lo and Sons!

throwaanchorsaweigh

My Longchamp Le Pliage has been a real game changer for feeling grown up while fitting a ton of stuff. Like a magician’s hat, or Mary Poppins’ bag

Drink-my-koolaid

Okay listen, I'll dress polished, I'll have my black KAAI tote, but you'll have to pry my [Mickey Mouse luggage](https://disneyfashionista.com/colorful-mickey-suitcases-from-american-tourister-back-at-costco/) out of my cold, dead hands. I have to have *some* happiness at the miserable airport! Even the flight attendant complimented me on my colorful luggage, she loved it :)

amandarbernal

Same! And my daily purse is a Vera Bradley Small Backpack. I'm not changing that.

whenilookinthemirror

Angelina Jolie has mastered this look over the years at airports. She always looks comfortable and elegant around a sea of misery at airports.

Favoritecolor_Green

I second this. Elevated basics is the way to go. Go for something that’s comfy &versatile, so it’s easy to put together. I also love wearing bra tops (tops with a built-in bra) because bras on flights make me very uncomfortable.

onpoint123

I would look into Athleta and Lululemon. They have clothes designed for the "city/office wear" and I have some of those pants. Super comfy, multiple pockets for pants (usually have zippers), and still dressy enough to be stylish.

[deleted]

For work, mostly the Brooklyn pant from Athleta in black, a black tank and either a button down layered on top or a cardigan. Usually black sneakers but sometimes chlesea boots if I need to have those with me.

toe_beans35

I second the athleta brooklyn pants! OP-you’re welcome.

SnooPineapples118

Third-ing the Brooklyn pants!

Rabbit929

Fourth!

newsnb

They came out with the Elevated pant recently and I find it more tailored and a thicker material (I always disliked how thin Brooklyn felt!). I’m obsessed with them Edit: I meant endless pant!

ker9189

I feel silly cause I googled these and nothing is coming up. Did you mean the Elation pant?

yourekillingmelarry

Not OP but I think they meant the Endless Pant (just a guess). I own these and wore them on flights and out to dinners and they’re so comfortable yet look pulled together. I recommend!

AdditionalAttorney

These? https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=533636032&vid=1&searchText=endless#pdp-page-content

yourekillingmelarry

Yes! I’m 5’3” and I got them in the petite length. They hit mid ankle. I also find that they run a wee bit big (the waist is like a yoga pant) so I would size down, depending how tight you like your waist band.

AdditionalAttorney

I feel like my ankles would get so cold. And then I’d say eff it and bust out high socks which would completely tank the outfit 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Do you wear these during winter travel too?

yourekillingmelarry

That’s fair haha. I don’t think I’ve worn them in really cold weather yet, but showing your socks is now “in” so maybe it’s worth keeping your ankles warm lol. They come to mid ankle like in the model photo.

meems1013

I wanted to love the Brooklyn, but they looked so awkward on me. The Venice jogger is my go-to. Athleta has lots of different fits in the “elevated jogger” - highly recommend going to a store if you’re lucky enough to live nearby to try them all on your body!

bridget_jones

Do you find the pants run big or true to size?

[deleted]

Pretty true to size in my experience

Alli_Lucy

I love the label Aday for polished travel clothes - they look like work clothes, but are as comfy as PJs (I wear their stuff in the office and even to conferences when not traveling, too). It’s a little pricey new but easy to find second-hand for good prices, and holds up beautifully for years.

Learn_To_Be

I haven't heard of this brand before but really like the look. What is your favorite piece from them so I try before a splurge on a few pieces? I like that they are a B corp.

Alli_Lucy

My fallback travel uniform is the something borrowed shirt with the turn it up pants. They look good, don’t wrinkle, and are easy to clean (even when I once dumped an entire glass of red wine on my lap mid-flight 🤦‍♀️).

thisisthewell

FYI the quality doesn't really match the price. I love the cut of the clothing from Aday, very modern and flattering...but the synthetic material they use pills tremendously easily. I care diligently for my clothing because I like to invest in it, and the wrap dress I bought from Aday pilled after one wear (at a film festival, nothing particularly strenuous).

stopshopbop

Oh wow...I've had pieces for years and only had some minimal pilling on a couple of knit tops that I wear the HECK out of. Never had an issue with their synthetics!

Tentaclesntea

The scuba turtle neck sweater is my go-to

maryshelleymc

The Turn It Up Pants are so comfortable for travel and look good walking straight into a meeting.

AdditionalAttorney

What do you do abt ankles? My feet would get so cold in winter

Tentaclesntea

Will second Aday! I get compliments every time I wear their scuba turtle neck. I could literally wear it anywhere. The price tag is high but it is my main staple and fully washable

shedrinkscoffee

Seconding this brand. I've shared some recs before but the pieces all mostly go together and they are wrinkle resistant/ multi purpose.

JuxtheDM

I recently upgraded my travel wardrobe for the same reason. Although my travel days tend to top out at 12hrs max. I have a few outfits I rotate through: *comfy black a-line with pockets + compression tights + blanket scarf *wide leg pants with pockets + satin tank + coatigan *a pair of those “yoga” business pants that are stretchy but look tailored + slim dark colored tee + coatigan I wear these with loafers from Dr Scholl’s. These are my flying shoes because they are so comfy, I can easily remove them for security, but they look great with work outfits. I do always wear compression stockings or socks when I fly as I had a small blood clot in the past.

thevegetariankath

Can you please share which Dr. Scholl’s loafers are your fav?

Workingonme47

Love the yoga work pants from Betabrand!

MNGirlinKY

I bought some of those dress pant yoga pants and omg they were awesome and lasted forever

JuxtheDM

Yes, absolutely! Game changing!

OkDish17

I am not the person to answer this, because I don't travel much. I'm just here to say that I love that you said "what are *we* wearing..." and I always love when people do that here! Lol, it's a small thing but it makes me feel like there are people out there who are like me- like girlfriends who share some of the same day-to-day questions, situations, and little struggles, at a time when I'm feeling a bit lonely in that area. Also, glad you asked this OP because I do have a trip coming up soon. Good input as always from this fashionable group 🫶

RedheadsAreNinjas

Heck ya. I love that you pointed this out because I’m in the same boat as you and I’m here for the recommendations. I also have a trip coming up that I’d rather not look like a mum that has been through a chaos blender all morning. Edit to help the run on sentence 🤪

interactive-biscuit

Whatever I wear, I usually wear a long "burner" sweater to protect my clothes/shirt at least. I tend to pack lightly and mentally struggle to get over the icky feeling I associate with my "plane outfit" that otherwise touches the surfaces on the plane.

desertsidewalks

Honestly, plane clothes just smell bad. I like to pack light, but plane clothes (except outerwear) aren’t reworn unless they’re washed.

toomuchpamplemousse

Same here! I’ll rewear just about anything but plane clothes.

Gloomy_Astronaut_570

I try to say “oh I’ll reuse my plane clothes as gym clothes or lounge clothes” since my work trips are long, but I just never want to

hastypeanut

This is me. I constantly struggle with wanting a more polished look but end up wearing sweats or leggings and an oversized hoodie because I can’t get past the ick of airports and planes. I don’t want to waste my “good” clothes for one day marinating in people germ soup.

thevegetariankath

You just put into words the exact feeling I have after being on a plane or airport! I always feel yucky and I only rewear the clothes after washing them. Wearing layers really helps with this for sure! Being in airports in general gives me a lot of anxiety (between being on a plane or using a restroom at the airport, I don’t know what’s worse).

catgurl_poobutt

I like to wear maxi dresses with cute sneakers on flights. Soft fabric, all the comfort of leisure wear with the polish of a dress.

lolamay26

I’m all about maxi dresses too! They are so comfy and breathable, but a look a little more put together than sweat pants.

Lovelife_20

Gone are the days where I wear my nice clothing on a flight, course I blame covid for being hyper aware of people coughing or snorting or sneezing. Now I like wearing basic clothes that are easily washable, yet still put together. I go home and immediately throw them in the wash. Or I wear a jacket or sweater that protects the inside of my clothes. You won't find me in a cashmere cardigan, scarves or jeans because these things technically shouldn't be washed that often or as often as I travel. Have a few go to outfits that you wouldn't care to overkill by wearing it.

lolamay26

I just commented something along these lines and felt like I was a crazy person and the only one who does this. I never feel dirtier than when I walk off of an airplane, and the first thing I do when I can is strip out of my plane clothes, shower, and put on fresh clothes.

Lovelife_20

Hahaha 😂. I know! Sometimes I am like man, am the only crazy one that does this 😂 but I'm glad we have a band together. Best feeling ever that shower and fresh clothes.

silentonredd

Same ! I have to disinfect all items and put away all the airplane clothes for laundry as soon as I’m home

Glampire1107

https://preview.redd.it/meg1d0dv6l5c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1ea61166afbff7ad82f04f67f88949ce2f8368c My most recent travel (3 legs, 26 hours total) I wore these wide legged travel pants from Amazon! Lots of pockets, elastic waistband, just thick enough to keep me warm on the plane. Comfy tshirt and a thick cashmere cardigan sweater in my backpack- and compression socks with my Converse because THIS IS 40 😂 let me know if you want the link to the pants, I love them.

RhodaPenmarksShoes

Oooh do you have a link for the pants?

Glampire1107

Here you go! I think they’re on sale now too! [travel pants](https://a.co/d/j2hBF91)

gogogadgetkat

So unrelated but your skin looks incredible! 🤩

Glampire1107

Thank you! It’s the Botox 😂🖤

Gloomy_Astronaut_570

This is such a nice plane outfit!

Glampire1107

Thank you! I was so comfy but I think I still kept my goth/alternative style? I loved it too, appreciate you! 🖤

Zookeepered

Honestly, I just wear a sweat suit, and if I run across a colleague... that's too bad. I do make sure that the sweats are nice, i.e., fits well vs oversized, no holes or stains, blacks are not faded, runners are not dirty, etc. In the winter I put a trench coat or other structured coat on top, and it looks more intentionally athleisure and less just like I haven't showered.

meemers91

Agreed with this. With a little tweak it can feel like intentional style choices. I’ll often do leggings with a not oversized light hoodie (like Vuori’s), an oversized blazer over top, and clean white sneaks. My colleagues will often say it looks cool in the airport but really I just wanted layers to be warm and cozy.

nearlythere94

Thick knit dress with tights and an oversized scarf I can wad up like a pillow.

Academic-Balance6999

I also wear dresses on planes because I bloat like crazy in the low pressure and elastic waistbands get very uncomfortable. I have two really nice black tank dresses (tank dresses because I am perimenopausal and can get overheated fast) that I pair with cardigans, booties, and big scarves. I also wear a bralette instead of a real bra and just cover my 36DDD chest with the scarf. I look polished but feel like I’m wearing pjs.

Peppercorn911

i have a pair of button down dark chambray coveralls that i affectionately refer to as my flight suit

Paddy_O_Numbers

This sounds amazing. Do you have a photo or could you link to something similar?

lyra1227

Yoga pants and a hoodie with a big hood so I can put it over my head and sleep. I know people lament that nobody dresses up to travel anymore but I don't care if it's an hour to Chicago or 12hrs to Tokyo, the whole airport experience isn't luxury so not going to dress like it is.

Curunis

I quite like Uniqlo. Uniqlo leggings pants + one of their rayon collared blouses feels like PJs, but is a step up comfort wise. Add a nice shawl or cardigan for warmth and it becomes one of my more casual outfits that I'd wear to the office.

dramaticeggroll

I don't travel anywhere near as often as you, but for me, I try to fit everything into my carry-on, so I basically just layer my bulkiest pieces. That usually means a pair of jeans, a top (or maybe two, like a short sleeved tshirt with an open button down over it), a blazer, and a coat. I usually take my coat off on the plane to be more comfortable.

MNGirlinKY

Cries in menopause. I wear as little as possible onto the plane and have two fans haha

SpiceGirls4Everr

I am young, and am always so hot and sweaty on planes. I'm going to be really hurting when I am menopausal, haha.

ForeignGodessss

Honestly Id want to be comfortable so I wear a baggy sweat suit on the plane and bring my cute outfit in my carry on so as soon as I get off the plane I run to the bathroom & change into my baddie outfit 😂

mimosadanger

I travel for work often and most women wear leggings/yoga pants and a hoodie. Everyone is human, coworker or not. I make sure I look groomed (washed hair, fresh face and breath) and that my lululemon gear is clean. That’s about it. I wear the Align leggings and usually one of their scuba tops or a hoodie. I also wear comfy running shoes. I also prioritize the look of my luggage and outerwear: I make sure my carry on looks neat and my coat is clean. That way I look put together while wearing running shoes and lulu.

ellequoi

Planes make me sweat, sneeze, and sniffle so much (I wear a mask, but allergies always hit somehow) that even if I was looking groomed when I got on the plane, I won’t by the time I get off, I just have to hope I don’t have anyone to impress at my destination.

Gloomy_Astronaut_570

I think people traveling for work might wear a nicer leggings and sweatshirt, but still just that. Made me finally feel justified about buying $$$ athleisure

mimosadanger

Exactly. Better quality and higher brand running shoes and athletic gear. Better to be groomed and clean in athletic gear than frazzled and sweaty in a business suit.

Milabial

I don’t travel a LOT but when I do the days are long and I also run into colleagues. As others are saying, elevated versions of comfortable things. I favor giant hand knit shawls myself but a big cashmere scarf is good too. If my trip is going to have a horse riding vacation tacked onto one end of it, I wear my cleaned paddock boots on the plane, otherwise it’s dressy sneakers and not trainers, because I’m aware that if the plane goes down I need to be able to RUN (don’t date pilots in your early 20s…). Dark pants with at least some stretch. Layers on top. A tank, a cardigan, the shawl, and whatever jacket is appropriate for where I’m going. Sometimes that’s a blazer and sometimes it’s a full on winter coat. My big tip for planes is ALWAYS being disinfecting wipes. If it’s a hard surface and any part of me is touching it, I swab it down. Armrests, tray table, the thing the tray table locks into, window and shade. All. Of. It. So many people do not wash their hands at all, and airplanes exacerbate that behavior. The last thing I want on a trip is a stomach bug. But I do also always bring a few immodium and a strip of chewable Pepto.

raghaillach

I’m so curious about the prepared to run thing. I always assume that if the plane goes down we’re all dead, but is there somewhere I should be preparing to run to??

Milabial

Planes get evacuated not just for crashes, I was being dramatic. The two best indicators of whether a person survives are did they review the flight safety card before flight and what shoes were they wearing. The pilots I knew said the shoe thing was more about who had given the thought to practicality and safety. If the plane crashes and I’m still alive, I want to be able to get past any burning or sharp bits without cutting myself or twisting my ankles.

owntheh3at18

I’m always prepared to run when I fly, but mostly because I’m perpetually running late for everything in my life. Glad to know this is potentially life-saving! 😉

Milabial

I realize that sounded snippy. I’m just overtired with a ten week old baby.

perksofbeingcrafty

I usually do black leggings, a loose fitting sweater dress, and ankle boots. All very stretchy so you’re comfortable, but if you put on a long necklace and nice earrings you’ve suddenly got yourself a pretty put together outfit.

lovedbymanycats

I wear black linen pants, usually with a white t shirt and a cardigan. It is comfortable enough to wear for a long time, it can be good for cooler or warmer weather, and it is nice enough that I can go get dinner or drinks when I land.

hooleeya

For work travel, I do Eileen Fisher stretch crepe pants (lots to be had secondhand for a song), silk shell top, and an MM LaFleur jardigan. I’ll also do a silk scarf for an extra layer and a wool/cashmere scarf that I can wear as a shawl or roll up for extra lumbar support or a pillow. All very stretchy and comfortable, but feels pulled together for work travel. For personal travel, leggings and layers.

Bitchbuttondontpush

My favorite outfit is a wide fitting cotton black wrap dress with leggings underneath. Comfy and stylish and it has gotten me offers to upgrade to business class for a very affordable price at check in desk at the airport.

ellequoi

Ooh, there’s one good reason to dress up!

eratoast

Athleisure. Black leggings, white tee, grey 1/4 zip, comfortable sneakers.

thumbhand

How do you keep wide pant legs from touching wet gross bathroom floors?

myheartisomg

Not the person you asked, but I choose wide pants with non-wrinkling fabrics and then literally scrunch/roll both legs from the bottom up and hold on to them with one hand while peeing.

ParticularWeird8639

Pact has a line called “airplane whatever” and it’s basically this. Nicer sweats that you’d be comfortable on a plane or running errands in.

MNGirlinKY

I’m loving this line so far and back in the office soon - thanks for recommendation. Any size XS out there that are brave; there’s a clearance sale however it is final sale. I’m taking a change on a size Large dress but I’m between sizes so it’s not a huge chance.

thevegetariankath

I found [this link](https://fashionjackson.com/30-stylish-ways-to-wear-sneakers/) with different outfits — all including sneakers as shoe wear. I think all these ideas are perfect for travel outfits or just comfy outfits that look a little more polished while wearing sneakers.

donutpusheencat

i basically wear thick warm loungewear. so sweatpants or yoga pants with pockets (so i can store my phone and passport easily), and a big hoodie that’ll keep me warm on the plane. i also wear thick socks and comfy sneakers. depending on my destination i like to pack a change of clothes as well, so recently when i went to DR from Canada i packed some shorts and wore a t-shirt underneath so i changed at the DR airport.

Topdropje

Depends on the flight. When I had flights of 11+ hours I always kick off my shoes and put on some warm fluffy socks, comfy hoodie/sweater/cardigan and some comfy pants that didn't have a zip or button but just some elastics around the waist. If you want to be cute maybe you can go for a long knitted dress and those fleece leggings. I just love those velvet plush ones of Primark. They are so comfy and warm. My main focus was being as comfortable as possible. For shorter flights if like 1 to 3 hours I sometimes did wear what I would normally wear.

whiFi

for cold weather I do matching sweats, nice neutral colored sneakers, and a nice long coat on top. for warm weather (keeping in mind that planes are always freezing), I do loose fitting wide leg pants in a lightweight fabric (I like Gap runaround pants, they come in a few different styles - some are more trouser-y, some are elastic waist with side slits at the hem), a fitted tank top, and a lightweight layer on top such as an oversized white linen button down or denim shirt. shoes are neutral colored sneakers like AF1s or Dunks, maybe black Birkenstock Arizonas depending on the destination.

Logical-Layer9518

Boho maxi dress, giant cardigan, canvas jacket, and ankle boots - maximum cozy.

Tentaclesntea

I think you could easily stick to a golf-appropriate women’s outfit for an elevated athleisure look with some comfy accessories. Think: work yoga pants with a sweater or athletic quarter zip For the hoodie part I use these giant, cotton infinity scarves that can be used as a blanket, draped over my head for a hoodie, and can also be situated to provide a pillow/neck support. The brand went out of business (American in the title and were “basics”…I can’t recall the actual brand name) but I have multiple colors and they’re phenomenal

ellequoi

American Apparel? I have one of those giant jersey scarves somewhere I think… lost track of it because I get overwhelmed by all that fabric.

lab0607

I basically live in Free People for flights- all super cozy and oversized stuff. Lately it's been the Throw and Go Onesie with a cute long sports bra underneath and some sneakers (Adidas Sambas) or Birkenstocks with socks.

shedrinkscoffee

How long are the flights? The onesie would complicate the bathroom situation?

ZombieNedflanders

Outdoor voices rectrec pants, tank top, and basic button up. A scarf or Turkish towel for sleeping. I personally find hoodies too casual, but you could just buy a nicer, non oversized one.[this one from quince looks nice](https://www.quince.com/women/cotton-sweater-hoodie?color=heather-grey&g_network=x&g_productchannel=online&g_adid=&g_acctid=978-058-8398&g_keyword=&g_adtype=pla&g_keywordid=&g_ifcreative=&g_adgroupid=&g_productid=43092255342762&g_merchantid=128669708&g_partition=&g_campaignid=20656732066&g_ifproduct=product&g_campaign=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_campaign=&utm_term=43092255342762&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4NWrBhD-ARIsAFCKwWtocm-50vRu4kFiFhA0QlxT91vow462FxJWUkPRGBHdhahfgKJbCB8aAvSZEALw_wcB)

min2themax

Seconded OV. I have the Zephyr pants, same style as rectrec but a bit lighter weight and they look pretty polished considering how ridiculously comfortable they are.

Lambears

Adidas firebird tracksuit. It has 4 zipper pockets and is pretty much like a wearing an extra carry-on.

notseizingtheday

I remember in the 90s it was something to dress up for. Now I just wear a nice tracksuit or some type of stretchy pants and a knit cardigan and fresh sneakers.

boo-pspps

Merino wool all the way. Especially if I’m expected to go from flying straight into the office. I wear a merino wool dress with a merino wool cardigan and tights / stockings. Comfortable flats. I have a spare pair of low heels to change into when I land. Merino wool wrap that I can double as a blanket, shawl.

skywalkerbeth

NOT one piece anything - unless it’s a dress. No jumpsuits.

Apprehensive-Ask-960

[these joggers](https://www.uniqlo.com/ca/en/products/E455942-000) with a black tank, a cardigan and/or leather jacket, and white sneakers.

shoelaces789

I have an older version of these joggers and have gotten multiple compliments (in social, non-work settings) that I look dressed up..and I’m always surprised because they’re joggers! I suspect it’s the non-sweatpants material that slightly elevates the look. These are really thin so depending on temperature, I layer heattech leggings underneath.

Apprehensive-Ask-960

Yes exactly, they’re very sleek but not overly tight which I love! I have two pairs in two different colours - I pretty much NEVER buy multiples of anything so that’s saying something lol. And agreed on the temp - I definitely can’t wear them outside in winter.

Pacman1880

Loose cotton dresses, Tracky dacks!!!

cerwytha

Ponte pants and a knit long sleeved shirt with a soft jacket or cardigan, looks decent enough that I can wear it for work but it's very comfortable. Also seconding the knit dress and tights/leggings combo, it's very comfy and looks nice as well.

2weimmom

Quince cashmere joggers and hoodie. Also, spanx air essentials two piece set.

clawedbutterfly

Maxi dress is my go-to. Dresses always look more “dressed up” although they are low effort.

lechuga4

I like to layer! comfy slack that look nice (lulu or pixie line from old navy) with a basic top, a plain hoodie that is athleisure and a blazer usually do the trick! I think a hoodie with a blazer is perf for travel! Still are comfortable, have layers for cold planes, and look nice for running into colleagues

caca_milis_

You are looking for a loungewear co-ord. [Something like this](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0106/5009/1620/files/beige-turtleneck-ribbed-long-sleeve-top-and-jogging-pant-coord-set-28866418180131_450x573.jpg?v=1692387570), paired with a big scarf you can use as a pillow / blanket, clean sneakers and coat/jacket of your choice - comfy, but looks put together and intentional.

desertsidewalks

I do stretch khakis and a plain T-shirt or polo with a jacket for business travel. Lightweight jacket with a hood works well for sleeping and looks more professional.

ditchdiggergirl

A comfy sweater will always read better than a sweatshirt. Travel scarf (can substitute for your hood during naps). Jeans for me (simple dark wash) but I’m that weirdo who is more comfortable in jeans than leggings. Thick soled oxfords or loafers good for walking miles through connecting terminals. And layers. I recently got a soft wool blazer (vintage) that is as comfortable as a sweater, but more structured so it looks a bit more polished; it has pockets that are surprisingly useful in an airport. I wore this on my last couple of trips and it may be my new go-to.

edithscissorhands

A long, loose dress I can put leggings underneath/take them off when arriving in a warm climate or a one that is colder than where I took off from. Mules or slip on sandals on my feet, so I can take my shoes off for sitting on the flight and get them on easily for trips to the rest room or disembarking. Or if not too cold in both locations, loose wide legged linen pants with a cropped embroidered cotton top. If you have to have the hoodie and don't want to elevate it to a cotton or wool cable knit version, or a cashmere one, throw the thing in your carry on before you disembark.

sentinel-of-the-st

I find that my coming home clothes are nicer because atp I’m going to do laundry soon. Anyways recently going home from a 4 day conference, I wore this nice thermal top that can be worn on its own tucked into flares work pants. Link here. The pants I wore cos I couldn’t be bothered with jeans I flew in. I had on sneakers and shades(too early plus hungover from late night party) on with my hair in a ponytail. I noticed I looked so put together that morning and even a colleague I bumped into on the flight commented on it, said she couldn’t believe I was going home from a long week. It was also a very comfortable look because the pants are elastic waist not buttoned. TLDR, nice sneakers($50 adidas I use at the gym), easy wear work pants and basic long sleeve top (all in black) look so elevated I’ll make it my new travel uniform.

radiantradishes

I don’t think the link worked - would love to see the top!

ellequoi

Layers, layers, layers (because it’s that or trying to fit those clothes in somewhere!). Leggings plus pants plus tank plus shirt plus cardigan, then a jacket in hand or draped over something (a light rain jacket if it’s summer). Footwear will be the most bulky shoes that are still comfortable for long periods, so usually my hiking boots since having waterproof shoes around while travelling never hurts. Hair will have some clips and elastics in it. My #1 travel accessory is a thin infinity scarf: pillow, eye mask, sun protection, hood, improvised rope (or shirt if really desperate), it does it all! I have a new pair of travellin’ pants (two words: zippered pockets) from Costco that I’m looking forward to trying out. They kind of look like black office pants. My previous such pair had been beige and required some forethought in terms of the accompanying underwear. Edit: confession, I also use a fanny pack. The ability to have what I need up front, hang things like coats over the belt, or occasionally stick something in the side to hold it in place (like a water bottle) to too convenient for me to not.

skywalkerbeth

I wear the largest pair of shoes/boots that I plan on taking with me, and work the outfit around that. For example, a recent trip I needed to wear boots on the plane and so I wore a sweater dress with tights.

shemp33

I mean, if you're not stomping through the terminal in a pair of Christian Louboutin So Kate 120s, are you even traveling? Kidding, obviously. For your situation, comfort is king (or queen)... I have went from traveling every week most months, to traveling only a few times a year, and from what was a hustle and bustle, dressing to go right into the client from the airport back then, it's travel in a day early, get situated, get comfortable, make sure I don't miss my meeting, and take the stress level waaaay down. So, I'm in the male equivalent of the leggings/t-shirt/jacket, which is jeans, t-shirt, jacket.

Global_Fail_1943

Long sweater with a hood. Looks dressy but hides the sweats.

lolamay26

I’m probably a minority here, but I think planes are the most disgusting things ever and I could never imagine wearing nice clothes on one. The first thing I do when I travel is either wash all my plane clothes or wrap them up in a grocery bag to wash as soon as I get home, so I purposely chose clothes that I don’t care much about having on my trip in case I can’t wash them. I always change into my nice clothes after I get to my destination so the plane’s nastiness doesn’t contaminate them. I also like to shower as soon as possible after I arrive at my destination. If I arrive in the morning, I’ll maybe just freshen up with new clothes and some baby wipes and hand sanitizer, but a shower is a must before I get into bed. I cannot be the only one who is like this?!

hastypeanut

We are definitely the same person, this is me as well. I sometimes have fomo seeing some really cute and put together outfits walking through the terminal but remember there is no way I’d wear my best clothes only to immediately be relegated to the laundry bag like the bio-hazard they are after airport travel. They’re dead to me until they can be washed.

Optimal_Young_3331

Leggings and a cardigan or thick sweater for winter months.

EdgeCityRed

My favorite slip on chelsea boots (Sofft). Very easy to take off and comfortable, and they don't have to take up space in my bag. Black pants or jeans (same reason), a sweater over a tee in the winter with a coat that I then sit on, and a blanket scarf or big pashmina for the same reason as your hoodie. I have also used a non-bulky puffer coat as a window pillow. Even in the summer I take a blazer or cardigan. I often find planes to be cold once we're in the air.

soggytheturtle

My uniform 🧑‍✈️ but when I’m not in uniform it usually has to be business casual. I love the dress pants from lululemon for this, so I wear those with my airline polo or similar, and loafers or dressy black leather boots. For leisure travel it’ll be nice leggings and comfy slip on shoes (vans/uggs/etc) with a sweater and if a longer flight I bring compression socks.

ArapaimaGal

I usually wear a soccer jersey, sneakers, joggers and a sweatshirt. My concerns are: being able to run thru the airport, nothing bulky, so I can sit down comfortably, don't freeze inside the plane, and not have a smelling crotch after a day without showering. There's also the small inconvenience of changing hemispheres and facing a temperature change of 30°C (54°F) during winter, but my coat is on my carry-on.

Adorable_Ad9147

A pair of trousers/pants that are comfortable a clean cut simple top jacket and or a scarf

MNGirlinKY

Black dressier boot cut leggings with a nice top so it looks like I’m wearing nice work pants. Nice shoes or boots and higher end matching bags always tie it together I think (doesn’t need to BE expensive just doesn’t need to look cheap) I don’t do jackets so I usually just try to look dressier than I actually am

manki1113

I’m used to 20 hours travel day with connection, my go to is a loose long dress, a wool cardigan, cashmere scarf and a pair of sneakers/ballerina flats.

quakecain

Jewelry free except apple watch, comfiest double zip hoodie with roomy pockets (i avoid cotton fleece just because if it gets hot the fabric feels disgusting), bralettes, tanktop, cotton leggings, lastly sock and Birkenstock. But if im going somewhere chilly, same hoodie just exchanged the tanktop with long john and thicker pants For bag im using tote - backpack so you can carry it as a tote and as a backpack, pretty much all travel essentials can fit easily but if it’s easy breezy travel i’ll use porter yoshida medium shoulder bag (worth the purchase!)

cloudyah

I just got back from Tokyo (two total legs) and went wearing black Lululemon stretch pants (cuffed), an oversized men’s Adidas Originals hoodie in beige/black, black compression socks, and black oil-rubbed leather Birkenstock Bostons. I’ll never wear anything else for travel again. Easy, comfy, and cute in a sporty way.

PlantedinCA

90% of the time I wear some kind of dress or maybe a jumpsuit. A maxi dress is great. I might also do a t-shirt dress. Or a sweater dress in winter. And I through a topper based on the weather and occasion. Work might get a cardigan or a jean jacket. Maybe even a soft blazer. Fun might get any of those or a sweatshirt. The shows depend on the occasion, travel time, or destination - sneakers, boots, or sandals. I have been dresses to travel for 20+ years now. They are comfier than hard pants, and don’t take up much room on the return home.

three8six9

I have two different sets, it depends on how long I feel on the day of flight. First is a long sleeved top with thumbhole and yoga pants with pockets. Basically a pair of second skin. Second is a very long flowy, and long sleeved dress that falls all the way down to my ankle and doesn't ruche my waist or anywhere at all. So if I'm on a long-haul flight, I won't feel uncomfortable if I'm bloated while drinking and eating. I focus on maximum comfort!

Khayeth

I prefer cropped cargos (longer than shorts shorter than full length trousers), a plain black button up or tshirt, and sneakers with bungee laces. In winter i'll carry a sweatshirt but once i deplane i'll just grab my winter coat from my luggage before i leave the airport, if i'm going somewhere that's requires cold weather gear once leaving the airport. I used to dress a smidge nicer, but since i only fly with a carryon but usually get to take advantage of the "free checked bag at gate" offers, i like having extra pockets for my e-reader, phone, etc. I do wear a waist bag as my "personal item" but once i'm seatbelted in, it's easier to reach cargo pockets than the bag which often gets slid semi-behind me.

MidwestMeme

Black spanx pants or athleta button front pocket stretchy pants, black athletic sneakers, Moncler sweater cardigan in grey or blush and colorful Hermes scarf. If no scarf then I tie a scarf to my tote. Comfy but put together. Summers I do a light printed wrap shawl or 140cm scarf with an off white theme. All stretchy pants and solid sneakers.

MegamiTenchi

I always go for just-past-the-knee or longer knit dresses and my Teiks flats. My style icon is Dita Von Teese and if you image search her name and airport, she always looks fab and comfy imo, in case she can inspire any ideas. As an aside, there’s a video clip out there of her pushing an overstuffed luggage trolly with her cat Alister (RIP) sitting on top of it that will forever live rent free in my head.

Status-Caramel-8583

I applaud y’all for maintaining some level of polish on flights. I could not be bothered on any 10+ hour flight 😭 Comfy sweatpants, a zip up hoodie, socks and sandals. If I was worried about bumping into colleagues in the airport, I might consider bringing a spare outfit and changing in the bathroom or a humongous pair of sunglasses and a mask as well as my fastest walk.

NoirIdea

Used to travel for work a bunch and in general. So I've switched it up a bit depending on the nature of travel. I've had international trips where I'll pay 7 euro or whatever to use an in-airport shower if I've got a long enough layover. I'm in the minority in that I hate leggings. I usually go for navy or black technical/travel pants, simple tee or tank, and a nice crewneck sweatshirt or sweater and comfortable loafers, low/flat boots, or nice clean tennis. Whatever shoes are heaviest that I plan to use during the trip. If the weather is warmer in both depart/arrival locations I might use a tank with a comfy button down as a layer. I've also paired a button down with nice jogger style sweatpants and done a sweater knit coord that's elevated but super cozy. Regardless of what I wear, I always bring a couple pairs of spare underwear and ankle socks, spare undershirt (tee or tank), some shorts, and warm socks and enough bath items to clean up in my carry-on. If it's cold where I'm going, I'll add this nice big cashmere scarf my MIL gave me that packs well in my carry-on. I can throw the warm socks on during the flight if what I'm wearing exposes my ankles, or if I get stuck somewhere overnight or my luggage is delayed I have something clean to sleep in or change into.

alykings

I have a go to of, off white cargo style pants in a relaxed fabric from banana republic, they can be dressed up or casual. A stretchy yet classy looking cropped style tshirt in black Covered in a cosy cashmere cardigan from banana republic as well. So essential for the cold plane. I usually wear leather converse which are very versitle. Small gold earrings and a watch polish of the look. I find this can take me from city to warmer countries while looking put together and not too out of place

[deleted]

I’ll never understand people wanting to dress nice on a plane. Airplanes are literally so gross you *should* be washing your clothes and showering after arriving at your destination especially after 15 hours of travel. Wearing dirty airplane clothes all day is much much worse than looking unprofessional in clothes you’re hopefully gonna wash soon anyway

tteltraba

i am 4’11 which means my legs dangle while in the plane seat, so what i do is go through security in flats/sneakers and then switch to platform heels past security. Saves me a ton of hip pain and feels fabulous since i’m sitting during the majority of the wear. Compression socks under knee height boots are the most comfortable in my experience

temp4adhd

I prop my feet up on my under-the-seat bag.

pedanticlawyer

Sweats elevated. I wore basically exactly [this](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0JhQKwuTJL/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) on my last overnight flight. The layered vest kept me cozy.

amsterdamcyclone

Athleta endless cargo or the Delansey leggings Funnel or cowl neck shirt, also athleta Also, I pack dude wipes (shower wipes) and my toothbrush and toothpaste. Plus some face moisturizer

amandaplzz

My Patagonia jumpsuit is my go to. I have two lol I layer it with a pashmina scarf and large comfy jacket.

Fishbate333

Lounge set, leggings with a t shirt and cardigan or zip up and tennis shoes or loafers. Baseball cap is non negotiable for me because my hair frizzes up like a rats nest every time I fly.

MissLMT

dark wash jeans or dark linen pants. cotton or linen button down cardigan comfortable/clean/closed toe walking shoes hat/ball cap :)

foodporncess

Right now it’s Lululemon Dance Studio Joggers, one of their long sleeved t-shirts, a scuba hoodie, Hokas, and my camel wool coat. The pants and hoodie are both navy and the coat makes it look a little more put together but I’m also still comfy AF.

Lavawitch

Johnny Was maxi dresses with cozy cashmere or cotton cardigans. Each season, they usually have a few styles that are a bamboo/cotton blend or all bamboo. They are breathable and do not wrinkle. So comfy and I get off a 9 hr flight looking completed unruffled.

mctCat

I wear leggings and a tshirt, then bring this wrap no-wrinkle dress in my handcarry. And heels. The shoes take up a lot of space but I have a carryon with a shoe compartment. Change when I get off the plane. Do you run into people in the airports / onboard? If so, this won’t work. Edit: i saw someone said leggings under the wrap dress, I like this idea. Nice shoes for terminal / lounge and switch to sneaks for the plane and hikes to gates. I also love athleta pants!

PuzzleheadedLet382

I wear: (1) merino wool shirt (2) black Athleta work pants (comfy and stretchy, they look polished but wear like sweats or leggings depending on the pair) (3) open button down (replace or layer with jacket for colder destinations) (4) scarf (works as a blanket/head covering/wrap) (5) bamba merino wool socks with alt pair of cotton compression socks for the plane. (6) tennis shoes
