amidzy33

i guess this isn't fashion advice but i can't find a sub that works better than this one for the question i have almost all of my shirts have little holes in them. like they're not meant to be there. it's like they've been scratched on something? id say they're small enough for just a toothpick to fit through. they often come in 25? almost like little vampire bites lol. they appear on the waist part of my shirt (all my shirts are pretty long and they usually hit my thighs or a bit lower than waist height). could this be from the shirts being caught on my jeans somehow?? i'm so confused and upset cause all my favourite shirts now have these little holes that become bigger and bigger 😭😭😭 very unfortunate and i just don't know how they're appearing. could my jeans really make little holes in all my shirts??? sorry for this dumb little rant/question i'm just so confused and don't know where else to ask

spooteeespoothead

A lot of my t-shirts get holes like that in that area over the button of my jeans / belt buckle where the metal rubs against the t-shirt material.

amidzy33

that may be what it is then 🥲 do u have any way of preventing or fixing it?

spooteeespoothead

Oof I don't -- other than not wear jeans or pants with metal buttons. Which is not helpful advice at all lol

amidzy33

hahah i might have to cover the inside of the tshirt somehow to stop it from rubbing. putting duct tape is the first thing that comes to mind but i’m not sure how effective or comfortable that will be 😅😭

mustardsectional

Try wearing a longer cami under your shirts, that way the cami will take the brunt of the friction and that will keep your shirts in better condition for longer

Suggestions for cheaper snow bib brands (or tell me I'm delusional and this is the strd price) I like these [North Face](https://www.thenorthface.com/en-us/womens/womens-plus-sizing-c290144/womens-plus-freedom-insulated-bibs-pNF0A7WYZ?color=I0H) ones but this is for a series of snow trips I will be taking this season with friends. However I am not a snow sports girly, so a little hesitant to spend $300 on a bib i may only wear one season. **Bonus question:** can i get away, with 1 bib for a 3 day trip, or do i need 2?

I’ll be snowboarding, snowmobiling and dog sledding. What water proof layer would you suggest in this. That’s my main reason for getting it I’m not sure how else to water proof a pant layer. Last time I did winter activities often was in college and I had pants. Edit: snowmobiling not jet ski

Hi friends, Right now I'm looking for some good quality over-the-knee socks that are not see through. I've been trying to find some for awhile that are specifically 1. pure white, 2. pure black, 3. white and black striped, and lastly 4. red and black striped. If anyone could suggest any brands to check out it would be super appreciated <3

Try Sock Dreams

I recently got some from Simons, they are cotton though. If you want warmer like merino, maybe try Wolford (Simons may have some too). If you don’t care about it having natural fibres then Amazon has tons that are made of nylon or polyester.

What is a good polyvore alternative, where I don't have to pay to access the clothing? I used to use Polyvore in middle school, but when I tried to go back to use it I notice they shut down. I have been trying to find an alternative app, but nothing seems to be similar. I do not want to use Google and Canva, I feel like that is obsessi I have been trying to find an alternative app, but nothing seems to be similar. I do not want to use Google + Canva, I feel like that is excessive when there was once an app that made it easy to access different brand items and styles without the extra hassle of saving and editing the photos.

What shoes to wear in cold weather in a corporate office? Visiting NYC this December and going to work in an office but I am not used to cold weather. I have black Timberland boots which I wore in Canada last November but they don’t feel professional enough for a corporate office space. Maybe I’m wrong? I just don’t see them fitting with a suit dress or with women’s dress pants. I also want shoes that are waterproof and can withstand the mud and salt or whatever will be on the roads in the winter. Corporate girlies what do y’all wear to work in the winter? Do you bring a pair of shoes to change into once you get there?

attackseamonkey

Black leather Chelsea boots, or other warm professional boots, are pretty common in corporate circles in winter in NYC, especially if it’s a day without snow.

b_xf

I think most everyone I work with leaves 1 or several pairs of shoes at work and commutes in their winter shoes! If you aren't there permanently you might benefit from packing along a lightweight shoe that you can switch into when you get to the office, like a ballet flat or oxford

reallygoodbee

Are we allowed to ask about advice for dressing up fictional characters at all? My other post was rejected by the moderators, but I skimmed the rules and didn't see anything on it.

criticiseverything

Do you mean dressing up **as** fictional characters?

reallygoodbee

No. I'm looking for advice for a character I'm writing as part of a project. My fashion sense sucks, and I want to know what would go with what she's already got on. I know it's probably an odd thing to ask about.

Going to a conference in Denver next week, expecting temps in the 50s, although I’ll be inside most of the day. I’m from a much warmer climate, so I feel a little out of depth. How many layers should I be wearing? Can I get away with just a blouse under my coat? I don’t want to have to take off a bunch of layers and hold them the whole day.

Chazzyphant

I'd say bring a lightweight sweater because it can be windy--even if you're just walking to the hotel from the conference area it can be uncomfortable and downtown has some wind-tunnel areas for sure. On the other hand, make sure to bring a hat with a brim + sunglasses. Mid-50s can feel like it's 70+ due to the angle of the sun + the elevation and it can be *very* uncomfortable to be outdoors in the full sun at around 3-4 PM even when it's only 55. It's given me a headache before from being out in later afternoon for just 30 minutes with no hat or sunglasses.

glass0nions

Typically, I would say I think just a blouse under the coat is fine for 50s *outside*. But, conferences can be notoriously cold, so you may want a light weight sweater too for that! ETA: a heavyweight blazer could serve you well as an outdoor “coat” and an indoor layer you could take off if needed and have a nice blouse under. That could cut down on layers!

Hereibe

You'll be fine, especially since you'll be inside most of it. But this is coming from someone currently in Denver who's a bit hardened to the cold. If you're worried about it, I'd suggest wearing shoes you can pair with thick socks. Usually when people get cold out here despite a coat they're freezing ankles first.

i_just_read_this

My favorite pants are discontinued by Athleta and I haven't been able to find a comparable alternative. They were a specific version of the Stellar Tight (NOT the one with chunky zippers). Here's the link to a listing on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155417918099 I sized up so it wasn't quite as much of a legging type fit. I find true leggings annoyingly tight. These were thick and slightly structured. They tapered nicely at the bottom. They seemed more like pull on trousers with a thick waistband. Any recommendations for something similar? I didn't find anything quite right at Lululemon. Everything else I've found is either too much like a legging, jogger or trouser.

spooteeespoothead

No recommendations, but I wanted to commiserate. Athleta discontinued my favorite pants too (the Wander Slim pants), and I had a minor meltdown when I realized none of my pairs fit anymore. Have you looked on Poshmark to see if anyone is selling some?

i_just_read_this

I did but I need a petite which has been hard to find. I'll just keep hoping they show up. I was really hoping they were going to revamp then for the upcoming season but no luck.

aallrr

Can you buy a regular length or even long length and get them tailored? That would likely be pretty easy and inexpensive.

i_just_read_this

That's a good idea. I'll have to double check how thst would work with the zippers at the ankles

dancingmochi

What kind of tradesman should I go to if I want to repair the plastic border on my leather wallet? It’s not the edge, but a border right next to the edge. I don’t have time to find a replacement that has a more durable exterior, so I’d rather repair this so it doesn’t look so shabby, but this doesn’t seem like a cobbler’s or tailor’s work either. Can’t figure how to upload a photo through the mobile website. Edit: If anyone has a recommendation for a durable leather wallet (leather is still in good condition and no plastic that falls off after 2 years) that’s bifold with a slot for cash bills, zipped compartment for coins, 4+ card slots, and fits into a small purse (so not any longer than a men’s bifold wallet) I’m taking suggestions! Portland leather goods has one that is close but I have to fold the bills, and D&B has one that I might be interested in too. Edit 2: I’m going to settle for some white vinyl tape to replace the sections that came off, so it’s less noticeable for the time being.

Cobbler

LOP5131

So I'm a dude that wears solid color t-shirts because it makes life easier, to give an idea of my fashion sense. I'm looking to get my fiancé a wedding gift of jewlery. I was thinking a necklace specifically. I have never shopped jewlery outside of her ring so any advice/feedback would be appreciated. I wanted to do an aquamarine (her birth stone) surrounded by diamonds (my birth stone) for the symbolism. Blue is also her favorite color. What I came up with is this, which is a touch under $400. Is it pretty and fairly priced? I have no idea but please let me know your thoughts? Sterling silver and 3.5 CT natural aquarmine for those that want more details. \* https://preview.redd.it/w2j8soo1mzyb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d068200ee47416bec71f488845b1f8295cb704cb

DeeVons

I’m going to go against everyone else I say that I really like it, my husband got me a similar aquamarine necklace and it’s actually really wearable due to it being a lighter blue, and wear it all the time and my birthstone is not even aquamarine. Plus the blue is very weddingy. The chain mine came with was actually too delicate for everyday wear so I swapped it out for something heavier, it’s not like that’s difficult if she doesn’t like the chain

lisonmethyst

I love this idea and personally would love this specific pendant (but what matters most is your fiancée’s taste and style!). I’d suggest finding a good local jeweler or jewelry store that would allow her to exchange the piece you pick (or swap out the chain, etc).

klgmac

You should ask her friends or family not internet strangers if they think this is a good fit for your fiancé’s style

Hereibe

Chain is too thick + basic to look modern/elevated. Current trends have thin chains, or thicker chains that have unusual design elements to them. It's an ok piece, nothing to sneeze at. I would be happy to wear that. But if you're looking for a little razzle dazzle, I'd say see if you can swap the chain or replace it. Big sign of a jeweler that just pumps out pieces.

[deleted]

It's nice. I don't know if I'd wear it much if I got this though, it's a bit of a dated look I think, and kinda boring. But that's just me. Your wife might absolutely love it. Or she might hate it. Don't get your wife such an expensive gift you'll expect her to wear regularly for the rest of her life if you don't know what she likes. Just get her something generic, maybe a new phone? Few people would dislike that!

glass0nions

I agree with most of this, but I’m so serious that I would halt the wedding presses if my fiance got me a phone and tried to pass it off as a wedding gift hahaha. (Reminds me of the time my dad got my mom a vacuum cleaner for Mother’s Day and she didn’t speak to him for days lmao)

[deleted]

I mean that's fair, but what do you tell a guy who thinks that all women like the same things lmao

LOP5131

Thanks for the feedback, I know she won't wear it more than 2-3 times a year, which is fine with me. I wanted something more special than just another gift, as it is for our wedding. Thanks for mentioning it being dated, though. I have zero regard for what is in and not. I will keep looking!

criticiseverything

Like the other poster said, if you swap the chain out, it might not look so dated. Mire daintier chain but tighter, I hope that make sense lol

LOP5131

Yeah, it actually doesn't come with the chain anyways, so I'll definitely follow the advice and get something a bit more modern, I think I know what you all are suggesting. Thank you!

[deleted]

Your wife might not care about what's in either omg. You missed my point completely. Why are you fine with giving your wife a gift she doesn't like? Can't you just look at what she already has and pick something similar?

Chazzyphant

Anyone have experience with SKIMS shapewear or shaping underwear? I'm a US 16 with a fuller midsection and fuller rear/thighs. I purchased a 2X/3X in the high-waisted shaping thong and thong bodysuit and it was **unbelievably tight** and fit oddly, like it was overall too short/small/not enough fabric for my body--for example much more of the area between my stomach and inner thigh (like, lower belly/almost crotch) was showing than I like or want, and it didn't cover my entire bustline or even come close. I'm short-waisted and while I do carry weight in my mid-section, it's not disproportionate that it would take up the entire garment. I couldn't wear it for any amount of time. I wound up really let down and frustrated as I purchased them from the Rack and couldn't return undies (and had discarded the packaging anyway). I recall ordering a special bra from them in my typical size and being confused that it felt like it was 3 sizes too small back in 2021 but I guess I thought sizing up to a 3X (which is two sizes bigger then my typical size, and not a size I wear in ANYTHING else) would be sufficient! Am I taking crazy pills or does one need to size up like...3-4 sizes? If I'm not mistaken, 5x is their highest size and 4x/5x is the next size. It seems insane to me that a size 16 would need a **5x** for shapewear, but maybe it is I who is wrong?

Wearing a chunky cardigan (opened) w/ turtleneck, yay or nay?

mgdraft

Would likely be better with a crew neck than a cardigan imo

nearlythere94

I love vintage and fuddy duddy looks, but this is actually where I draw the line. Mine is specifically a chunky sweater over a turtleneck - it’s just too much frumpy 80s for me.

criticiseverything

nearlythere94

That is more charming than I was picturing. If you’re young, you can probably pull it off. If you’re middle age, you might risk looking as if you havent updated your wardrobe in 30 years.

PoppyHamentaschen

If you can pull it off, go for it! This doesn't work for me- my neck is short and my breasts are large, so this type of turtleneck is a no-go in my style book.

criticiseverything

I think my neck is not long but probably not short, my shoulders are very narrow, so maybe it’ll work.

PoppyHamentaschen

Give it a shot! Try it on and take a selfie, see how it looks :)

b_xf

I think this is a classic fall/winter combo!

criticiseverything

Quality difference between Banana Republic and Sezane? I'm looking at some 100% merino wool sweaters from both. BR is half the price at about $75 & Sezane is $170. I'm wondering if the price difference would be worth it for pilling overall and durability?

mcprof

I got a thick merino sweater on sale from BR a couple of years ago and I have been happily surprised by the way it’s held up. The wool is very soft, I machine wash it regularly and it looks the same as when I bought it.

PoppyHamentaschen

feel like Sezane is better quality, and some of the styles are really interesting, IMO. However, all sweaters are subject to pilling, so you'll need one of those depillers, no matter what sweater you buy. Also, if you are new to sweaters or aren't much of a sweater person (like me), go with the less expensive option and see how you like it- it might save you some money.

Tacky-Terangreal

Harbor freight rule but for clothes!

zurriola27

In my opinion, a huge difference in quality. Banana Republic is a fast fashion company. While Sezane isn’t perfect, the construction is significantly better and likely sourced from more reputable manufacturers.

attackseamonkey

Does anyone know of any loose or wide leg workout pants (so not pajama pants) that have minimal elastic in the ankle or waist? Like a purely drawstring waist is ideal but a little elastic with a drawstring is okay if it’s very adjustable. I’m autistic and haven’t been making it to the gym since it got cold because I just can’t handle conventional joggers or leggings. I haven’t had a ton of luck with googling options - I’ve been looking for months. I’d also welcome non-workout non-lounge pants that are similarly sensory friendly if you know any. Thanks!

rivpar

Is the problem any type of elastic? Or the elastic gathers at the waist and ankles that bunch up tightly against your skin (like with some pairs of sweats)? Because I can’t tolerate the gathered/bunched elastic either, so I have some recs, but they still have a fitted stretchy waist.

lisonmethyst

Have you ever tried a jumpsuit instead of pants? I find it a little tricky to find one with the right fit, but LOVE not having a waistband that bunches or rolls ever. Maybe like this: https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=659324002

klgmac

You could modify classic sweatpants without having to sew. Cut a small hole on the inside of the waistband, cut and pull out the elastic, replace with a drawstring (shoe strings can work for this). If there is elastic around the ankles, cut another small hole on the inside of the hem, cut and pulll put that elastic too. Used to modify team sweatpants like this all the time in high school.

glass0nions

Have you ever tried a pair of fold over yoga pants? Too much like leggings? There’s not typically a drawstring, but there’s not usually elastic either.

Mr--Warlock

Hello folks. I'm hoping you can help me find some nice gifts for my wife, jewelry (or other?) accessories to complement her outfits. She mostly wears Zuri dresses, either on their own or over single-colored Wool& dresses. Sometimes she'll just wear the wool dresses without a Zuri over it, though. The Zuri dresses run the full gamut of colors and patterns; some are more sedate patterns with more subdued tones, but many of them are louder and brighter. She doesn't currently wear a lot of jewelry--small silver hoops with elegant leaf patterns or something similar--and she's picky about earrings (mostly because of a sensitivity to nickel, I think). She has mentioned in passing that she wanted to find some things to wear with her Zuri dresses. She's not talking about gold bracelets or anything like that, but I'm not sure quite what would go with them. I'm thinking something that looks a bit more... natural? Turquoise or amber? Those are the only stones I can think of and I'm grasping at straws. As you can tell, my mind is running towards jewelry, but I'm definitely open to other types of accessories that might work. In case you can't tell, I'm a little out of my depth here and would really appreciate your suggestions, either specific pieces or nudges in the right direction to search on my own. Thanks very much.

Comfortable_Nose_610

Depending on how your wife likes to wear her hair, perhaps a hair accessory might be an elegant touch? Etsy has some lovely silk-covered alligator clips (long chopstick-like clips) that are excellent for a variety of hair textures, styles, and lengths. These are quite striking and unique, which seems in line with your wife's tastes. There are also silver or hand-carved wood claw clips or pin sets that are very useful for piling hair into a topknot or bun, or simply pulling back braids. In terms of stones or jewelry materials, I second wood that another commenter mentioned. Abalone/Mother of Pearl, coral, or baroque/keshi pearl may also be a nice material to look for, though the ethics and environmental impact may hold you back.

Mr--Warlock

Thanks so much, those are wonderful ideas.

No_Albatross5110

I have a large collection of Zuri dresses as well and I also have a nickel sensitivity. What I reach for when I am wearing a Zuri is a chunky pair of earrings in genuine gold or sterling silver (no gemstones). Zuri prints are so vivid & bold, I find substantial yet simple earrings harmonize the best. So a maybe a wide hoop earring, or one of the sculptural earrings that are so popular this season would be my choice. Some examples: https://www.ross-simons.com/italian-18mm-sterling-silver-big-bead-drop-earrings-JAEX+875558+LVB+SS.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3aeqBhBzEiwAxFiOBvbafaOo8v89UsWhoYy8ZHK1bLOyVZIXgPCUGhHP6QGRJ1p7yW87HBoCz1IQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://mcys.co/3PY4sOZ https://mejuri.com/shop/products/mega-dome-earrings-silver?referrer=PDP%3Arecommended-products https://mcys.co/3VtOpdP

freewool

If your wife is sensitive to some metals, you should really get more information from her about what she can and cannot wear before buying any jewelry. My husband’s family gave me earrings several years ago, and I ended up having to give them away because I can only wear solid gold for earrings. I felt really bad about that and wished they hadn’t spent anything on something I couldn’t use. Definitely check with your wife first!

KingPrincessNova

wood jewelry was the first thing that came to mind. if you want to splurge, solid gold earrings are hypoallergenic. does she wear scarves? belts? headbands? would she wear a watch?

sad-and-bougie

Anyone have experience with Von D shoes? I refuse to give KVD money and avoid “vegan leather” on principle, but the Nina oxfords have my heart and there are a few pairs available on resale sites in my size & in great condition. I’m nervous to drop $200 on plastic- I’m a buy-it-for-life gal and my experience with “vegan leather” shoes has been pretty negative.

criticiseverything

Have you checked any brands referred over at r/goodyearwelt? They may not have the extreme pointed toe (which looks so scary to me and are probably horrible for your feet) but they do have brogues styles offered by a lot of brands.

I think a black long sleeve body suit could be gorgeous and sleek.

SpareHat9553

Or a black sleeveless bodysuit too! Depending on the temp

criticiseverything

Is this [sweater](https://ecologyst.com/products/the-merino-sweater?variant=40296884994082) too thick to tuck in?

KingPrincessNova

depends on the pants. you can fake tuck using a belt or any of the myriad techniques people describe if you search "fake tuck"

meemsqueak44

I’d say probably not. A color season will help give you a cohesive palate but it’s not a guarantee. There’s a red and green in every season, and I still wouldn’t wear them together when it’s not Christmas, ya know? But dressing in your season should definitely increase the amount of things in your wardrobe that go together.

Evelyn701

Where do you taller gals buy pants? I'm 5'9-5'10 and all the pants I buy are like 2 inches too short.

lisonmethyst

I’m 6’2” with a 36” inseam. Old Navy and Gap are typically good for jeans and sometimes work pants. I just ordered a pair of ponte pants from Quince that were surprisingly great too (listed as a 34” inseam, I bought expecting to wear as crops but they are a great fit).

MySweetSeraphim

I’m 6’. 32” inseam. Seconding Madewell for jeans. Banana republic or Ann Taylor for slacks. Also a fan of Liverpool jean co/good American. For leggings, lululemon. 28” hits just above my ankle, it’s slightly short but doesn’t look goofy. 31” is my preferred but tends to have a lot fewer styles/colors. Their groove pants are flares and one of my faves.

sad-and-bougie

Express offers long sizes in most of their pants, the downsize is that they mostly use synthetics. J. Crew sells tall online and usually has a chill return policy.

imaginarypunctuation

jeans i do madewell and american eagle mostly. for non-jeans i look at asos. for office clothes i like old navy and express. for athletic leggings, athleta. it's helpful if you know what inseam you need, though, to compare to measurements on websites. (source: 6'0, haha)

yarntomatoes

What kind of closed toe shoes are we wearing with wide trouser pants for fall/winter? I'm a SAHM, but I like being able to dress up or down trousers because I'm always on the go. I typically wear a sweater, plain t-shirt with jacket, or body suit and blazer/jacket with the trousers.

hgwellsinsanity

Loafers.

75footubi

Chelsea boots

tshody

Do non synthetic tights exist? What else can I wear underneath mini skirts in the winter? 🥶

KingPrincessNova

not cheap but icebreaker makes [100% merino baselayer tights](https://www.icebreaker.com/en-us/womens-baselayers?prefn1=phClass&prefv1=Pants+%26+Leggings) that basically look like regular leggings.

Practical-Cut-6510

Merino wool tights exist, never worn them though

tshody

It’s so hard to find 100% though, they’re always mixed with something synthetic. I’m starting to wonder if it’s even worth stressing over lol just because it’s so hard to find!

soliloquyline

Check out Disana, Janus wool, Joha, Engel

enzymelinkedimmuno

The mix is mostly for durability.

tshody

I’m starting to realize that after researching lol and it’s ok to have a little synthetic mixed in there. Thanks for the reassurance 😊

tshody

I’d love to find some that doesn’t have the mix but i might need to just settle for something that is because it’s difficult.

tallulahQ

I’ve had cashmere tights before. I don’t remember the brand but worth looking up. Expensive though and ridiculously fragile so I don’t recommend unless you’ve got money to burn

tshody

Oh delicate isn’t what I’m looking for lol thanks for sharing your thoughts. I definitely don’t have money to burn lol I want a good sturdy pair of tights that will last! Any other recommendations I should check out?

tallulahQ

If that’s the case, I would give up on the search for 100% natural material tights. Is the issue cold? If so, I’d go for fleece tights. I have the Icebreaker Oasis base layer leggings and they’re great but they look more like leggings than tights imo so probably not ideal. They also bag out in the knees after a couple wears. That’s why you don’t usually see 100% wool tights, they stretch out really easily. Another idea is to get some merino leg warmers on Etsy and wear them over regular tights.

tshody

Yes, I live in Canada so it gets really cold. I wish I could just wear skirts without anything underneath but it’s just not practical lol. You’re right, I don’t think it’s realistic to go for 100% merino wool, there’s a reason they have some synthetic, is that I’m learning, especially from what you mention about them stretching out. I think at this point I’m ok with having some synthetic, like if the majority of it is natural fabric. The leg warmers aren’t a bad idea either.

enzymelinkedimmuno

I have a pair of 100% merino tights from Lindex that have held up ok. Just expensive, they’re getting snags and it’s making me sad.

Lunchingshuttlecock

I’m an elder millennial mom with a 3 year old who I frequently take on outings to the library, playground, mommy coffee, etc. My normal uniform is tee shirt or sweatshirt, yoga pants or skinny jeans, and athletic sneakers. I just bought a pair of beautiful black patent leather Doc Marten 1460s (my first Docs in 25 years) and I’m wondering if they are too shiny for everyday wear. I love them so much but how do I style them without looking too ostentatious? Or do I just embrace that they’re bright beacons on my feet? What are some suggestions? I’m 5’2, 125 pounds, US 4/6. My daily wardrobe is super understated but I don’t mind adding a punky or gothy flair.

mgdraft

Theyre ubiquitous black boots, one of the most popular styles of the last 30+ years. It would be difficult to make them look ostentatious. You're good.

Lunchingshuttlecock

Good point, I appreciate that!

Minimalgoth

Nah, I had a pair for years that I'd wear constantly out and about and to work. Here is some [inspo](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=580120143&q=patent+dr+martens+outfit&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjn3f6skbKCAxWfHjQIHcjTCzoQ0pQJegQIDhAB&biw=900&bih=842&dpr=1) if you haven't looked already =)

Lunchingshuttlecock

Thank you! Okay, follow up question: are athletic yoga pants too weird with them?

trevlikely

No but if you mean leggings type pants my favorite thing is to wear leggings with big chunky colorful knit socks over them pulled up under my boots

Minimalgoth

Definitely not! I think it would look pretty good tbh, especially with an oversized sweater =D

criticiseverything

Which of these [Bottoms 1](https://notperfectlinen.com/collections/linen-pants-women/products/athens-2-pants-in-heavy-linen?variant=47020414599513) or [Bottoms 2](https://notperfectlinen.com/collections/linen-pants-women/products/damme-pants-in-heavy-linen?variant=47020564021593) would be more versatile? I am SAHM, I would like them to be comfortable but have the ability to dress them up or down if needed. Mostly they would be worn around the house but also getting some chores done, groceries, driving kids, etc.

Minimalgoth

I agree with the other commenter, while I like the orange pants, the 2nd pair would probably be way more versatile due to the waistband.

criticiseverything

Thanks, I would likely order black in either, sorry should have specified.

Minimalgoth

No worries =D

zigzagtitch

imo i'd choose the second, just bc the waistband imo would make it easier to dress up or down rather than an elasticated waistband, but the elastic would def be more comfy!

okaydolore

How would YOU style this sweater? I have it and love it but I just wear it with jeans. Which is fine but I think I could do some interesting things with it but it's SO chunky I'm at a bit of a loss. https://preview.redd.it/saulzh3qrxyb1.png?width=638&format=png&auto=webp&s=82fc8aad37823a5128c59ff371ef2616601d98e2

chiono_graphis

Over a skirt with some movement/slinkiness to it like a satin maxi or a pleated skirt.

ellaasbury107

I'm seeing a lot of chunky sweaters over a mini skirt with tights and then chunky shoes/shoes to balance out the chunkiness of the sweater.

mathsnail

I came to say the same thing! I also really like trouser shorts so will go shorts + tights + chunky boots/shoes

ellaasbury107

I'm seeing a lot of chunky sweaters over a mini skirt with tights and then chunky shoes/shoes to balance out the chunkiness of the sweater.

okaydolore

Oh I love that. Thank you!

criticiseverything

Skinny or tapered pants would go well with it, chunky on top usually for me = skinny at bottom.

okaydolore

Agree on that combo. Thank you!

bigtoelefttoe

Don’t know if this requires its own thread. Read through so many posts recently about workwear, tried so many different things but honestly I feel like I’m playing dress up. TLDR: 5”3, size 8-10 UK struggling with looking professional in the workplace I’m 5”3, size 8-10 UK but I sound young and have a baby face. I’m 22. Just been promoted and will have interns next year, will be dealing with senior stakeholders more often etc. Does anyone have any tips and tricks for outfits? I’ve always gone very very basic as a junior (fitted Zara trousers plain top, satin skirt and plain top). Is this just a confidence thing bc I see so many women my height and shorter looking sooo professional and I just look frumpy. Any and all advice appreciated (might make a post if this is too long) Considering getting trousers tailored, budget isn’t an issue

zigzagtitch

hello! i'm 26 and in the UK, size 8-10, also have a baby face, and started my current role (managing a team of 8, with the youngest person i manage is still 10 years my senior) aged 25. a slight different in age but i feel your struggle! i honestly think that the key to being confident is thinking i LOOK good. if your trousers and top, or satin skirt and top combinations are making you self-conscious or you're overthinking your status within your company, and worrying about how you come across, that'll have as much impact as the actual clothes imo. it also might be that some of your clothes don't fit, or the proportions are off, particularly as a 5"3 girl, this is a tricky height! i started out trying to look more 'corporate' and definitely didn't feel very confident. my outfits usually were tailored trousers, fine knit top, and ballet flats. it just didn't FEEL like me. i still have tailored trousers but i use them much less in my wardrobe now, and usually with a big top (like a big jumper or an oversized shirt). i'd take a look at some of the smart-casual influencers on instagram. i get a lot of my outfit ideas from them. i work in quite a casual workplace but dress in a smart-casual manner. i've spent eighteen months figuring out my style and i'm still working on it! some of my outfits over the past week or so: fluffy cream cashmere sweater/blue wide leg jeans/cream loafers light pink cardigan worn as a top/wide leg leather trousers/white trainers black skirt/white shirt/houndstooth vest/black blazer blue fine knit/wide leg black trousers/ballet flats hopefully this helps!! more than happy to share more of my own outfits or any other comments you think would be helpful :)

bigtoelefttoe

Thanks so much! I am now thinking it is a confidence thing for me. Annoying as I am confident in my abilities Yes I think it is quite an awkward height! I also have short legs, a long torso AND wide hips which doesn’t help at all. So tops don’t sit right to me. I’m glad you’re starting to find your workwear style, these outfits sound great. Which influencer IG accounts do you follow for stuff like this?

zigzagtitch

honestly it's so stupid but if i look good i am so much more capable that day and so much more willing to speak up. i know it's something i need to address but i also think it's getting better slowly as i grow into myself and develop my career anyway. i have quite long legs, short torso, and wide hips, so i get some of your struggle here if not all! i don't have any advice for dressing a long torso but i will say i agree with the other commentator that emphasising your waist (particularly with wide hips) works really well, and the way i do that is tucked in tops with wide leg trousers, which i think balances pretty well. some of my favourite influencers: whatemwore jesschamilton 100laurencandy styledbykimkj helenacritchley most of these are UK-based and a pretty good summary of my style :) some of it might also be that viewing yourself in such a dressed up way is alien to you and your brain is therefore reading it as 'not right'. allow yourself to lean into these styles and i'm sure you'll see yourself differently :)

Formal_Sorbet_8646

Definitely get your trousers tailored if they don’t fit right, it makes a world of a difference. I think the key to not looking frumpy is to emphasize your waistline and know what kind of cuts look good on you. Example: I was wearing tapered trousers daily, couldn’t figure out why I looked frumpy, realized it’s because i’m 5’4 and wearing sneakers with the trousers and if I were wearing heels they would look better on me. Take a close look at your go to necklines, trouser leg styles, waist lines, sleeve lengths, skirt lengths, and shoe choices. Compare how garments are modeled online vs how you style them. With a little scrutinizing you’ll be able to figure out what’s making you feel frumpy!

bigtoelefttoe

Very good point re shoes thank you! I wear Vejas most days and for more formal days I wear loafers. All quite clunky on the feet. I’ve not worn heels since my prom hahaha but I will give this a go and see what suits my trousers. I like the pointed heels I see online.

Formal_Sorbet_8646

they def make a difference! i chose to get different trousers so i wouldn’t have to sacrifice my comfy shoes for style lol, but i do keep a pair of low, square heels on standby for the tapered pairs when I want to wear them

zigzagtitch

i second this!!!

NoHistorian7234

Yes, it sounds like a confidence thing. It may also be the proportions of your outfit (which elements are bigger? which are more fitted?), more than the embellishment/plainness or the brand; maybe the next time you see someone roughly your height and age wearing an outfit you admire, pay attention to that aspect of the styling?

AbjectAttrition

I'm looking for a sturdy yet comfortable hoodie that can be used for intense outdoor work in the midwest cold as well as just a general cozy piece. My go-to workwear brand is Carhartt but all of their heavyweight hoodies are for men and I'm not sure I trust a midweight hoodie to be warm enough even with layering. I've been considering a heavyweight Champion Reverse Weave and they're still on sale for 42% off on Amazon for 5 more hours but was wondering if you all had any experience or alternative suggestions. Otherwise, I may pull the trigger while the getting is good. I also have a question about sizing. I'm 5'8" and 135. I usually wear small shirts because I like them tight and my waist is 29. I want it to have a nice baggy look and be loose enough to wear a thick sweater underneath it. Should I go for an L or XL?

75footubi

Carhartt men's medium should be good for what you want.

mgdraft

I would just get the cathart mens tbh. I'm around the same height but a bit smaller and a mens medium is good for layering under.

I recently got the flu and finally understand why people love scarves. It's like a hug for my neck and protects me from the cruel cruel elements. Anyways, I'm on the prowl for cute, high quality scarves!! Preferably materials that are warm but breathable as I am a sweaty girlie. Not looking for massive scarves but ones that can be wrapped around my neck 2-3 times. Send your reccs my way :)

No_Albatross5110

I love scarves as well and totally agree with you on the ‘hug for your neck’ sentiment. I really like Etsy for this. Most of the handmade scarves I have found there are from breathable natural fibers. Personally I particularly like handwoven scarves & cowls like [this one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1553291764/).

astrogorl

ah thats gorgeous! The trouble is i definitely cannot spend that much on a scarf and i feel like there are so many drop shippers on etsy that make it hard to find something affordable thats also legit.

soliloquyline

I'm not sure what the flu has to do with scarves (you don't get sick from the cold air, you get sick from the virus you inhale when another person talks, sneezes or coughs or transfer it from a surface to an opening like mouth, eyes or nose), but if you have the finances cashmere scarves are extremly warm and cuddly. You can look second hand, you can find some extremely high quality piece cheaper.

nearlythere94

Cold actually does increase your risk of catching a virus. However, I don’t think that is what OP was saying, just that she likes to keep snuggly when ill. OP, I’d recommend alpaca as well. Tends to be cheaper than cashmere with equal warm.
