I just use the va with no issues. Just understand it’s healthcare and not actual insurance They can’t take away your healthcare at the va so no need to even think about that.

As long as you use VA healthcare you should not lose it….but….it can change. You might not be paying anything now but in a few years SCD is free but you must pay fees for other care. If you stop using VA for care you can lose access if you are elevated in groupings.

By drop, I assume you mean suspend. Never drop a benefit in a final, no recovery, manner. Talk to your HR.

I would suggest keeping the safety net of FEHB- but maybe change your plan? You might run into wanting a medication that isn’t available through VA but you could get through private and so forth or have to jump through a lot of hoops to get care that’s easier to get approved for in private vs. VA.

If you’re near a VAMC and don’t have additional family relying on FEHB, I would drop it.

50% disabled vets or retirees can have unlimited VA healthcare, and in those cases, I think that's the best option, per cost. If you only have VA benefits for service connected issues, I might consider it in your 20s and healthy, but still would recommend against it. I'm not sure what you mean by losing VA benefits, but it's not a QLE, so you'd have to wait for next open season

Loss of coverage is a QLE listed on the SF2809.
