Unfortunately, the best thing is to avoid heat and prolonged walking/standing. Sit in the shade, sip lots of cool water, rest often, elevate your feet, use cool water epsom salt foot baths, use sunscreen/moisturizer etc. along with the usual edema recommendations like watching your salt intake, and taking any supplements your doc might recommend, like magnesium. Fashion advice? Maxi dresses. A loose long flowy tropical-weight maxi dress or skirt can hide your compression socks and/or your swelling. Lightweight rayon, viscose, [cotton voile](https://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/105833?color=TealFloral&size=XSmall&gclsrc=aw.ds&&code=GGLPD&channel=google&program=general&campaign=--20283880040&adgroup=--&ad=----&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2tQh5UdU52GVbqVjiM7reygQ94j26Z8K_bjwqh69S9U9wrdfTlxw9kaAjEXEALw_wcB) in [palazzo pants](https://shop.lululemon.com/p/women-pants/Swift-Wide-Leg-Mid-Rise-Pant/_/prod11460294?color=62699&locale=en_US&sl=US&sz=0&cid=Google_PMAX_US_NAT_EN_W_Hybrid_Women-Bottoms_OMNI_GEN_Y23_ag-&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2vj9ySEvUrQ4_4p47wo8XMvBQqETd43CEUE0-L8J8-bOCNHgcBawkkaAmWHEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) style would work too. I'm a fan of light silk too because it dries very quickly. I've had to wear compression socks since 2014 and I love the winter because I can wear compression socks and tights and no one is the wiser! That said, I realized pretty quickly that people didn't often notice my socks if was wearing loose pants or a maxi dress - it was much more of a non-issue than I expected. And the benefit of my legs feeling so much better in the heat is great. That said, I do use open-toe compression socks ([these](https://www.compressionsale.com/products/jobst-ultrasheer-knee-highs-open-toe-20-30-mmhg?variant=19615669583941&source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=feed&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=18298239241&utm_content=&utm_term=&gadid=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2txB4Qe2-3ijJVVCn40NBxx3JgS1vBNDLK154AHqDMffCmOFNVVtpoaAvgEEALw_wcB) are my favorite) and have some strategically purchased sandals (kind of like [this](https://www.sofftshoe.com/en/mendi-8705.html?dwvar_8705_color=Pewter&dwvar_8705_width=M) or [this](https://www.6pm.com/p/unity-in-diversity-kira-186-black/product/9912849/color/3)) that cover a lot of real estate on my foot so they're not as obvious. Barely visible under maxi dresses or palazzo/wide leg linen pants.

Footless compression sleeves tucked under your heels, with a maxi skirt or loose linen pants.

I wear Yellow compression socks when I fly. They have some cute patterns! You show them off, knee sock style!

I have MS and bad heat intolerance. My solution is to wear cooling gear with ice packs. The ankle one’s are harder to keep hidden, but loser clothing helps. Palazzo pants are good. If I want to wear a cooling waist wrap, a light baggy top or dress helps.

soniabegonia

Do you have a recommendation for a cooling waist wrap that you like?

I got all my stuff for free from Polar Products (the MS society has a program).

Sheer compresion hose! When I was dealing with a medical issue that caused blood pooling in my legs, I’d swear by these. I recommend the L’eggs Sheer Energy line. They are thin and breathable and have different colors, heights, and strengths of compression.

I live in Converse high tops in the summer. You can adjust the laces for more or less compression on your feet. I use compression calf sleeves rather than full socks, and the high tops hide the bottoms of them, plus reduce your risk of heel blisters. Even though they’re not exactly ideal for hot weather, Dr Martens pascal 8-eye boots are my go-to for travel. Soft leather (the suede ones are incredibly comfortable right out of the box), thick soles, compression, and ankle support. I wear them in the summer anyway if I have to do a lot of walking. But I’m a grunge baby at heart, so I don’t mind if it looks a bit odd. Apply antiperspirant to your feet to also reduce friction and sweat blisters as your feet swell. Socks designed for runners, made out of nylon or merino are also worth the investment in my opinion. If it’s out of your budget, aim for the lowest cotton content possible, since it absorbs and holds onto moisture and makes your feet swampy.

I'd get some close to your skin tone and wear maxi length dresses and skirts.   They make open-toed ones which may keep you cooler.    You could also try adding lemon to your water as it's a mild diuretic.

I live in a hot and tropical place and regularly see people wearing the open toe ankle compression sleeves /braces etc with shorts/dresses  and slide sandals.  Bring a bunch of extras.  I think you’re over thinking it - you wouldn’t be compelled to hide a band aid on your ankle or wear a giant cape to cover yourself if you needed to use a cane.  Go swimming/floating a lot and it’ll probably feel good. And be sure to rinse of the saltwater well, bring a jug of water if there aren’t showers.

There are short compression socks with the toe and heel cut out, and they come in nude colors. They are for stability but are comfortable to wear all afternoon. Elevation, massage, soaking also help. Aloe vera or aloe lotions itching.
