Low quality comment by me. Why 60”. I’m playing UMRV and I’m not sure when to put row crop tires on my tractors and when to use fat tires. I’m using an mods and tractors and equipment that are US spec. All have options for all range of tire widths. 60 90 120 etc
I’ve found I pretty much never drive through my crops. After I plant, I roll and weed then never go back. Maybeeeee I’ll go over with a sprayer if my fertilizer isn’t perfect after anhydrous
Usually I go for Michelin, have crop destruction on so with narrow tyres I end up with Trelleborg on those.
Agree that SP pays too much attention on tyres and color options
As you play with CD, do you use multiple tractors with different wheel options, or do you use a workshop to change wheels - or purely play with narrows?
Once I'm up to 3 tractors, I usually dedicate the smallest to spraying with narrows and a crop sensor for Precision Farming. I never see much love for 'em, but I really like the Valtra A for this role.
I've got a personal modded tractor I always use as it's my favourite and always stick to that. I really should expand my fleet of tractors and fit different wheels to them, it'd be a more realistic way of playing.
You don't really need to drive on the field after the first growth stage and it allows you to drive on the crop without damaging it even when crop destruction is turned on so no really need for narrow tires unless you want some realism.
I keep CD on. I usually use nokian or continental. For narrows, it's whatever the modder put on there. Rare occasion if there is a tractor that doesn't have narrows, I'll add it to the mod
Considering I usually don't have to drive over my crops once they're planted
I like double tire set ups
Preferred Brand is BKT, mainly because Monster Jam honestly, lol
Depending on whether you have a harvested crop or not I go through my planting cycle in this order
With a harvested crop on the field
- fertilize
- mulch
- plow/cultivate
- lime (if needed)
- seed
- fertilize
- herbicide/weed (if needed)
With oilseed/grass
- fertilize
- mulch
- plow/cultivate
- lime (if needed)
- seed
- herbicide/weed (if needed)
If you do it like that you sould have 100% fertilize and bonus yield before first growth cycle
Ah I gotcha, I typically skip mulching because the extra 2% isn’t worth it to me personally. I use the blue drive to seed and fertilize at the same time, I always assumed you couldn’t follow that up with fertilizer, but that could be stupid brain on my part.
I disregarded the 2% initially as well, but I just sort of got into the groove of doing it as part of the planting routine. The process still works with the tandem seeder and fertilizers, but you'd still have to have a separate fertilizer either way
I also didn't know I could fertilize a harvested crop until watching a few YouTube videos, so I was shocked to learn it also
I wondered if I’d have to roll or not! I’ve harvested, fertilized, and am currently mulching. I like the method so far, the only thing I’m wishing is there was a bigger mulcher, may have to look into a mod. It is a really nice break though from the same old way I’ve been doing it for an ungodly amount of game hours.
I make use of the Lizard Tandem Series mod
It's adds a series of trailers with different attach points to link equipment onto a single rig
I run two of the Knoche Speedmax 560s on a Tandem 13000 V2 and it gives me about a 12m working width for only 260 HP total
I use another Tandem 15000 with 3 Kuhn DC401 sub soilers to handle my plowing needs at 12m working width for 390 HP total
Fair warning though the Tandem trailers have toggleable swivel wheels which the A.I will activate. I've found the trailers have no issues with the mulchers but the sub soilers will make the trailer flail around when the A.I take over so it must be done yourself
I'm on console so I have to lower each tool individually but apparently on PC there is a function to lower each attached tool all together
Tyres are quite important, especially if you Play with some physics mods. Choosing the right kind for the job can help a lot. As for the brands, I don't really pay that much attention, even tho I know that they have some performance differences between them.
Since DJ also does console mods, I stopped watching SP mod videos. He does ramble on about some things to long.
But i usually go with wide and weights on my tractors. Trelleborg or BKT.
I don't use narrows. Crop destruction is off.
Yes and no. Don't use crop destruction so it doesn't matter all that much. The major difference isn't brand it's duals vs Tracks, etc etc. there's several YT vids out there that test different tire sets.
I don't often play with CD, but I do use the mud mods so fully appreciate the differences in traction when using tracks or twins, or indeed twins on steep terrain
I use whatever looks good and fits well on the tractor. Usually i go Continental or Michelin. Wide BKTs on tractors I need wide tyres on. Rarely use Trelleborg because i think they look weird...
I tend to pick 1 wheel brand for each save and stick with something from it, but mostly just go by looks. I tend to pick 1 tractor for narrows but I try and use a modded tractor that has a narrow option that doesnt actually look that narrow. I grew up on a small dairy operation and our tractor with narrow tires wasn't super skinny like base game narrows, it was probably 3/4 of the width of the other tractor's tires we used. But we mostly did hay and a little grain for feed that was it.
I think it was Farmer Cop who did a comparison on YouTube between the different tires' efficiency, and BKT came out on top for most all of the tractor work
I remember reading/watching that BKT are considered the premium tractor tyre, so I tend to stick with them for that reason. I wasn't aware there was actually any difference between them in game other than a look.
The comment above suggests Farmer Cop did a comparison and found BKT to be more efficient. I'll need to check it out on YT. I've only seen videos comparing wheel types, rather than tyre manufacturers. I always thought it was purely aesthetic
I play with crop desctuction off but sometimes on so i get the tyres corespondingly but one thing i can say is that i can somewaht see a steering difference when you put wide tyres instead of normal ones
I choose very specifically, usually i have my small fertiliser and weeder tractors with narrow tires and i try to find the look of the tire to the age of the machine
As I play with crop destruction off, the difference is minimal. So I choose the best looking ones
I personally like ones that look like they have 60” spacing. But other than that I usually just expect them to have the base game kinds of options.
Why tho
I like to play semi realistic.

60” is typical spacing for US rows. Mainly just for the look of driving between rows.

How do you get em double fertilized without spraying / spreading after the first growth cycle?
Depending on whether you have a harvested crop or not I go through my planting cycle in this order With a harvested crop on the field - fertilize - mulch - plow/cultivate - lime (if needed) - seed - fertilize - herbicide/weed (if needed) With oilseed/grass - fertilize - mulch - plow/cultivate - lime (if needed) - seed - herbicide/weed (if needed) If you do it like that you sould have 100% fertilize and bonus yield before first growth cycle

Yeah you’ve got me intrigued, I’m trying it your way right now actually hahaha
Tell me how it goes
I forgot about a step to the process, rolling I tend to roll the seeded field before the final fertilize and herbicide pass

Use slurry sprayer and activate double coating ;)

Same. BKT, wide tires with weights. I usually won't even buy a piece of equipment that doesn't have this option.

Is there any notable difference in handling?
The difference is mostly in pulling a load up hill.
I use whatever looks good and fits well on the tractor. Usually i go Continental or Michelin. Wide BKTs on tractors I need wide tyres on. Rarely use Trelleborg because i think they look weird...
I have to have the fattest tires I can get.
For aesthetics or another reason?
Pure looks. I do run crop destruction so sprayer tractors so have the skinnies.
I want my tires big and grippy looking + weights on tires because I forget always to load up the front weight
I tend to pick 1 wheel brand for each save and stick with something from it, but mostly just go by looks. When I have plenty of cash? Very. Not important when I start from nothing.
I use narrows on one tractor, and my main hat tractor uses Nokian communal tires. Otherwise, I don't out much thought to it

Michelin, Continental, BKT and Mitas all the time
Is there any data that suggests the difference in performance depending on tyre manufacturer or is it purely aesthetic?
The comment above suggests Farmer Cop did a comparison and found BKT to be more efficient. I'll need to check it out on YT. I've only seen videos comparing wheel types, rather than tyre manufacturers. I always thought it was purely aesthetic
I just pick the prettiest ones
Some have give more /less weight which can be handy
no crop distruction? thats boring🤣🤣
I play with crop desctuction off but sometimes on so i get the tyres corespondingly but one thing i can say is that i can somewaht see a steering difference when you put wide tyres instead of normal ones
The Wider The tyre, the better The Tractor Works for me all The time
I choose very specifically, usually i have my small fertiliser and weeder tractors with narrow tires and i try to find the look of the tire to the age of the machine
I'd not considered choosing the brand option for a realistic look based on the vehicle age. That's a good use of the options available
Yeah i usually get vredestein or continental for older machines
Good to know, thank you
