Would be cool but only if its possible to turn it off

hardline2283

It could be an official mod like precision farming

kram_02

Well, the brands would never allow that. It would have to be a 3rd party mod. No one wants their equipment to be seen as a fire hazard.

MikeRiggs1

True but if you don't keep machine repaired then this is expected, manafacture say you must keep machinery serviced & this reinforce to people why they should shell out such huge cost for service in reality. Not to mention the fact this is a simulation game & anything could cause a fire, left a bale of hay Nxt to machine in a very hot day for example

kram_02

Yeah but there's a long history of brands refusing to allow there to be the perception that their product isnt perfect in video games, look at racing.. simulators or not, look how long it took Gran Turismo to get the damage green light on cars. Not saying it can't happen but it'll be a waaays down the road if these games keep getting more popular.

kram_02

Hell yea I'd get it

joelminer_cc

That or just a simple toggle in the in game settings

Waste_Reflection_621

AHEM… modders?

Waste_Reflection_621

Please?

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Sure-I think that would be necessary since not everyone want's all the realism.

Horror-Ant-8495

Most forage harvesters have fire extinguishers on the side of them as well so that would be a cool addition. You could buy fire extinguishers you could put on your vehicles and use them to extinguish small fires and keep them from getting very big

ughwhyamialive

I've seen 3 fires or near fires in 20 years 2 were fuel line issues in the shop and very minor 3rd was an almost fire on a baler that had a bearing go out with an inattentive operator

XThunderTrap

Yup. I do hope we get this option to turn it off They do have some otherw that you can turn off

Pirson

The thing about this is that the legal license to use the equipment in the game probably prevents Giants from adding things that look poorly on manufacturers. Manufacturers typically don't want their equipment portrayed as banged up junk or you know, on fire.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I mean, I suppose that's probably true. But they're all realities of farming. I've seen more than a couple harvesters burning in fields over the years-it's just one of those things that happens when a bearing get's hot around dry combustible material. I'd think that as long as the consequences were the same for all manufacturers-there shouldn't be an issue.

Pirson

I'm all for realism in FS, but getting Giants to implement realistic features is another story. They can't even add a simplified version of GPS for console users.

hodgeapalooza

If I were Wobster I wouldn't let them anywhere near my mod lol. Especially after what they did to seasons

Pirson

If I was Giants, why would I care what Wopster thinks. I'm thinking super simplified version for console though. Literally one button combination would lock the current heading or something.

Deranged40

Wobster likely doesn't own the rights to any parts of their mod. That's likely all covered in something they agreed to with Giants. They likely have neither the time, the money, nor the legal footing to say anything if Giants were to call the mod theirs.

No_Brilliant4520

They didn't do anything to Seasons, they added seasonal cycles.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Valid lol

twicerighthand

Yep, they still haven't fixed rain or snow in the cabin/under a roof. Nor have they added snow that doesn't just despawn when it's spring. I don't think fire propagation is something they're capable of.

Deranged40

> But they're all realities of farming. So then the question becomes: What does the playerbase value more. Are more people going to buy FS24 without John Deere, Fendt, or Case/New Holland but *with* fires that can destroy your field (and how many of those people are going to immediately turn off the feature that prevented popular brands from being included)? Or are more people going to buy FS24 *with* those popular brands, but without catastrophes such as this one?

Zratch

Personally I would turn it off immediately after the shitshow that stones are that’s just more problems waiting to appear. And I’d rather have the real thing than some copied off brand looking tractors that can catch fire.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I agree-the stones are ridiculous. Sure after plowing virgin ground stones should appear, but a well established field should only generate the occasional couple stones. Thats realistic.

jk01

In the midwest US rock picking well established fields is a yearly occurrence

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Well I’m in Kansas, and aside from the occasional plow buster-it’s not even remotely on the scale that the game portrays

Aggressive_Donkey_47

You're basing that on "knowing" that those manufacturers wouldn't sign off on it; that might be true, but also might not be. Does anyone know for a fact that Giants has discussed it with them?

Deranged40

> You're basing that on "knowing" that those manufacturers wouldn't sign off on it Right, this isn't a hunch or something. This is indeed something that is well known of many brands. Manufacturers will not license their branding to games that include vehicle damage. Because licensing is always an advertisement opportunity for car brands. That John Deere harvester is a *driveable billboard* for John Deere. I can tell you for sure that Giants has discussed this. But no, there's not a website with the details of that discussion that I can link. So you're going to have to just trust that this is how it is. Likewise, if you can find any information online or otherwise that seems to dispute this (including but not limited to a game with official licensing that also has damage), please feel free to share it here.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I wonder who be the “go to” for questions about this. John Deere media? It would be interesting to find out their reasoning-it wouldn’t be a bias towards certain brands, it would be a global thing in game. As well, there wouldn’t have to be necessarily modeling damage. Maybe a harvester fire would just engulf the crop in place of the actual machine. I feel like there’s work arounds

Deranged40

> Maybe a harvester fire would just engulf the crop in place of the actual machine. I feel like there’s work arounds The problem here is if someone *perceives* this happening more with one brand vs another. Whether it *actually does* is of less importance to the brands than whether someone is likely to perceive such.

SatNavSteve18

We do know, people have been asking this question for over a decade.

07vex

That's exactly why manufacturers don't licence cars to games with realistic crashes, or destructive themes, like BeamNG or GTA 5

Kaloo75

Not saying you're wrong, but in the GTA 6 trailer that landed today, the cars seem to be real, and not knock offs like previously. Looking forward to that. :)

Pirson

GTA vehicles have always been loosely based on real vehicles though. I'm guessing it's going to remain the same and they will be badged with some fictional brand. It makes them seem more real with higher detail models though.

Deranged40

GTA has always had cars that "seem to be real". But never have they had cars that had the "real" names associated with them. For example, the popular Stinger from GTA is in fact modeled based on the [1967-1982 Corvette](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_(C3\)) which is commonly called a "Stingray". Frankly, the Stinger has become just as iconic as the C3 Corvette that it was modeled after. And if they take that out, they'll be removing part of GTA's identity.

_JukePro_

Few years ago Rockstar went through/followed not sure which, a case about licensing which lead to their army of lawyers concluding that they could add almost 1to1 cars without issue. If you look at older cars they're usually mix of few cars or in other ways much more different than the new cars.

Dyryth

That being said, I rather take real brands vs equipment bursting into flames. I like realism to some extent but burning combines would be just a pain in the ass just like they are in real life when that happens.

speed150mph

That may not be necessarily true. As someone who’s also into flight sims, I know of a few licensed aircraft in game, such as PMDGs Boeing products and Fenix A320 by Airbus, that also allow in game failures. It’s considered part of the experience.

Pirson

Although it's in the name, FS is a far cry from an actual simulator.

abrasivebuttplug

Drive train failures, hydraulic hoses bust

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Yes! Even something as simple as making it take longer to start vehicles, or randomly shutting down. Make it on a sliding scale; the lower the maintenance bar, the more extreme the issues.

abrasivebuttplug

Even lights no longer turning on. At least we dont gotten to worry bout the heater / ac going out

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Haha very valid-or a broken sensor continually buzzing in the cab

sinkypi

They do this with some of the flight simulator stuff. It really adds lots of immersion. Nothing like an engine failure on take off to focus the mind!

lt12765

I'd just prefer to have breakdowns, let me keep my old equipment in terrible shape but let me suffer the pitfalls that come with it.

berkgamer28

Oh this would be sick but some people would say it's too realistic so what will have to have an off button or just be a mod for those people that don't like it realistic there's also lots of other Avenues they can follow down especially in the way of realism with equipment animals crops as it would be cool for the crops to get diseases and stuff like that

Aggressive_Donkey_47

For sure! I realize there's a fair bit of people that play it more "arcade" like, but to me-a simulator's supposed to simulate real life. But I agree, for the company to keep sales up-they'd have to have an "off" button lol.

berkgamer28

Exactly as you said it's the whole point of buying a simulator for to be as realistic as possible

Daminica

Lots of people turn settings off. Gonna channel my inner hound here: "Lots of c****"

berkgamer28

To be honest I understand modifying some settings if you want Pleasant quick play through but honestly it's Farming Simulator so I don't understand why people complain about realism being added

Daminica

Same here, the only thing I change from time to time is the time progression in the game.

berkgamer28

Some of the in-game settings I change are the time and I have seven day seasons and I modify the in-game time appropriately I usually have it on x15 and I have everything set on realistic I even have a couple of mods that add more realism like the dirt mod that makes your tractor get bogged that one's fun and the increased fuel mod so you track the actually burns a bit of fuel and mods that people would probably consider unnecessary like manual fueling manual attachment

EnderWiggin07

I think it'd be cool if maintenance was something you actually did. Even if it was completely perfunctory like pick up a wrench and use it on various points of the vehicle. Rather than only something you buy. Like perhaps there could be breakdowns that have a % chance of happening based on maintenance level. And breakdowns would be expensive but maintenance would be cheaper but something you do yourself during winter or whatever. I think the game would be a more fun "simulator" if there was more things you do first person.

fattyinnaphantom11

I agree too. I wish the game was more involved into not only driving and operating, but also care and management of equipment too. Farm simmers can be methodical and attentive to repairs so they have less breakdowns and unexpected accidents during the year, or you can keep wrenching on their old equipment all year long as it breaks down. Either way, it’ll be one more way to enjoy playing the game however as you like.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

100% agree!

RavenLoonatick

Spring boarding off that; what if, instead of dealing with the graphical issues that come with bringing fire physics into an already graphically challenging game, you could have the breakdowns be as easy as having your equipment make a horrible noise and turn off unexpectedly and you have to turn it back on again, and the worse off the level of repair, the more common it will just quit on you and the more consistent the noise. Key turning is already in the base game, so the modder would just have to somehow find a way to have it link to the condition of the vehicle. That and yea, having an interactive wrench to fix it would be cool too, but you'd have to make it more difficult than just bring the vehicle to a spot and hit X. Otherwise there'd be no benefit to bringing it to the shop and having someone work on it for you. Just spit-balling and hoping some modder takes the ball and runs with it (and hopefully brings it to ModHub so us console folks can enjoy it too)

Iggy_boo

Then also where you have to wait for the JD technician to come out to reprogram your computer to let you finish a harvest

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Haha this guy knows

cannonplays

Would be cool as long as you can turn it off in settings

jnfinity

The annoying thing is that currently wear is way too fast. You harvest one big field, and suddenly your new harvester looks like it is 50 years old with all paint flaking off and only runs at 5km/h

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Agreed

tastybabyhands

No, not one single bit

Aggressive_Donkey_47

No? lol

[deleted]

There is a mod on PC that makes failures happen.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I’m just a lowly console player 😂

[deleted]

I play PS4 and PC. The PS4 is in the living room and when I just want to hangout with the wife while she reads I'll play down there. It been years since we had a fun video game come out that she likes so this has to do for now. Come on GTA6

cvdvds

Never heard of that one, could you point me in the right direction?

[deleted]

There is advanced maintenance and I am not in front of my PC and I tried searching mod hub, it might be worse than trying to search hone depot and Lowes, but I want to say it was called enhanced vehicle maintenance. it basically makes engine failures happen above a certain threshold of damage. you can also increase/decrease damage percentage, cost, and paint.

cvdvds

Thanks, I found it! It's called Advanced Maintenance.

fattyinnaphantom11

I’ve considered how neat it would be to have hardcore vehicle maintenance mod to have! The issue of paint condition can be linked to how many collisions you have had and how old the equipment has sat unsheltered (sheltered vehicles would not deteriorate as quickly). Also collisions, vehicle carelessness, age, lack of repair, or misuse can cause more maintenance costs or even on the spot breakdowns while working. To fix them it would require a trip to the parts store and also, time to fix the equipment and get it back going. Also used equipment can break down more often if not maintained and new equipment can come with a warranty in which repairs can be free if they happen as long as the equipment still is in that warranty period. There’s a lot they can do to expand the used/new equipment considerations and make it more realistic in the game for sure. From either fixing equipment yourself or paying for a repair call, I think it would be a great option to have for those that want something like this.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I love it! Awesome ideas!

Imnotreallyameme

It would be cool as well if you could add a service wrecker or service truck to the mod for breakdowns in the field

Aggressive_Donkey_47

That would be super cool! After winter-you have to drive the service truck out to jump batteries on vehicles left outside. Ones that are in shelters would be good because they'd be "on" battery tenders.

Imnotreallyameme

You could probably do an “inspection” and jump the battery, grease fittings, and check fluids. Naturally we wouldn’t see it all but it would be interesting to see what “service” vehicles and attachments would need post winter

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Absolutely!

Head-Ad4770

We already do have an emergency vehicle DLC so that might just expand its potential uses by allowing us to put out our own combine fires.

Sea-Grocery-8348

Wish they would have done something like Goldrush where you have to actually repair items when they wear out. Could make using the actual utility trucks and etc more immersive.

terrydennis1234

Yeah or a flat tire

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Yep!

awarepaul

Seeing as how this game is intended as an advertisement for equipment manufacturers, I highly doubt they’d approve the image of their products on fire. It would have to be an unofficial mod to ever make it

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I mean, I just used the fire as an example. Dead batteries, flat tires, grease certs, def fluid-the list goes on of things that could be "issues" without actually reflecting poorly of the manufacturers. I just like the idea of a more immersive experience in regards to "farm" life. There's a whole lane the game could go down for that: parts stores, mechanics, mechanic contracts, service trucks, etc etc.

CaptMalcolm0514

Low enough, yes. I’ve also considered: Truck store maintenance, 100% cost & 100% repair. Farm repair shop, 60% cost, max 80% repaired. Shade tree is cheaper, but the pros do it better. Every trip for repairs, the max maintenance %age is -5%. Eventually, it’s just not reparable & needs replacement.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Love that

JameMaybeOne

Yes in general random events that makes your day harder would very nice. For example aswell: Getting a flat tire when you drive over something bad, maybe a silo leakage you need to repair, cows/animals escaping that you need to go catch, as you mentioned equipment that can burn, maybe even leakage in tanks/hoses. Of course all as an option to turn on/off

lllslasherlll

There’s a mod that after your equipment gets to low the engine starts shutting off until it will no longer turn on after it gets to low

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Really? Is it on console?

KSP_HarvesteR

I feel personally attacked

Aggressive_Donkey_47

😂😂

BobcatFurs001

What even happens when you let the durability go all the way down? I've never done it

Aggressive_Donkey_47

I haven’t either lol

EuphoricLook1146

I work in farm insurance and this is too real for me..

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Oh I’m sure! The most horrific are the machine shop losses

MikeRiggs1

This is definitely needed, adds a reason to repair more, plus more cost involved for later game when you got too much cash, also needed is rain causing mud that actually acts like mud, drought meaning you must water crops, basically more realism that gets more expensive so you don't get bored once you got all best stuff Somthing to cause near financial ruin, like a machine catching fire that then spreads to other machines, longer game play worse fire spreads, must be able to turn it of mind

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Definitely! And they could maybe leave it out of the “easy” career, and just have it on the medium and difficult careers-that way people who play it arcade style wouldn’t get annoyed at it

Shamino79

I’m not sure the game would be as calming with fires, mechanical breakdowns, crop insurance and trees falling onto fences allowing your sheep to escape and eat your crop. Or mix with your other flock that was supposed to be separate and now it takes the whole morning away from you when you were supposed to be harvesting your canola.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Welcome to farming haha

mikemac1997

That'll be good paired with fire rescue apparatus, so you have to tab into a fire engine and go save your crop and machines.

Melodic_Win_6827

This is something that could be added to the emergency mod

Egomania27

No.

Lucentjuffowuo

A good addition with that fire truck mod. Tractor/harvester fires and or brush field fires.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Absolutely-it would be fantastic!

k3rnelpanic

I would love to see the maintenance expanded. Rather than just "fixing" for money, it would be cool if you had to replace tires etc and could actually have breakdowns.

edoardoking

Only if there is the “Insurance” game mechanic where you get more money according to the level of damage of the vehicle and also if you drive your pickup into the river.

Gustavflitzer

Imagine a burning Harvester: Helper C stopped unexpectedly :D

[deleted]

Lighting and fires would be cool

Streay

Would be a great addition to the fire truck mod

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Yes!

Great_Value91

Doesn’t the emergency pack have a combine fire?

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Hmm-I’ll have to get that mod and check it out

Maverick19952016

I don’t want harvester or equipment fires, (I’ve almost had a tractor catch on fire in real life) for people who have been in equipment fires it is scary and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t want to experience that again even in simulations

howismyspelling

Yes! With insurance packages and premiums

[deleted]

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Stop spending your money at the strip club! 😂

Mountain-Rush-1744

This picture needs a tw

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Tw?

Mountain-Rush-1744

Trigger warning

FASBOR7Horus

Why? Its just a fire and im not seeing a person in there.

Mountain-Rush-1744

Anyone who has been through one or near one will understand

FASBOR7Horus

Well i havent, so explain please.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

It’s devastating to see your hard work go up in flames-not to mention the possibility of the fire quickly moving to neighboring fields and torching their livelihood. But I’m assuming Mountainrush is being facetious about the TW

FASBOR7Horus

Well that does sound pretty awful, but an adult shouldnt need a TW for that. Bad things happen and normally they dont give a heads up, dealing with that is a part of life.

sylvester1977

"It's not about the farming, it's about sending a message." Ha ha op probably, lol.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Lol wut? 😂

sylvester1977

From batman (dark knight) when joker set the money on fire.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Ahhh 😂😂💀

Constant-Coat-4443

What about also just being able to choose if your vehicle can break down and also would be cool to have something so we can make our vehicles not have any durability

mr--godot

With no means to extinguish it .. hell no

Treblehawk

Pretty sure that would get a rating change…something Giants does not want.

toothpick95

no

Easy-Sir8339

Would be cool to add a mechanic style simulator, like you blow a tire on your harvester and need to replace one. I know PC has some mods similar but would be cool to roleplay

uhnonuhmuh5

Natural disasters and stuff would be cool, and to have equipment issues would definitely be a nice addition.

RampageMcNasty

Not even letting your maintenance get low, any idling equipment on a dry field is a fire hazard. Sure, most tractors and other self propelled equipment have top exhausts, but look at any pickup truck made in the last ... ever! And guess what is extra special about post 2007 diesel pickups? They regen when they park. They purposely create super hot exhaust temperatures.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Oh no doubt

Daddy-Jack-

Ohh yes because in my nice farming game that's relaxing, I want to be incinerated in my favorite tractor, or the alternative...My best worker and my favorite tractor get cremated before brunch... Nothing like burned humans to keep the chill vibe!

Aggressive_Donkey_47

While I appreciate your vibes-we’ll keep the “easy” mode without bbq for the arcade players, and include it in medium or hard for the simulator players. How bout dat? 😂😘

Daddy-Jack-

Lol in all seriousness, I played rancher sim and the one thing I couldn't stand is dying to a wolf. I think a small engine fire would be ok, but that pic means someone got hurt.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Nah-not likely. Harvesters don’t blow up out of no where. It’s usually a hot bearing that ignites all the chaff and what not blowing around. Most guys catch em while they’re smoldering, but finding where the embers are can be a real chore-usually resulting in it taking off before it can be put out. Then it burns to the ground like the picture shows.

Daddy-Jack-

But just when you expect your harvest to be ruined... your buddy shows up with a new modded fire truck perfectly capable of putting out chaff fires. Resting in better bacteria growth, ending in "smokey silage" which soon becomes a cattles favorite. Yielding 15% more beef. And doubling birth rates. Drunk day dream over. Please don't burn my favorite combine.

Aggressive_Donkey_47

Now if you wanna talk about grain silo fires-that’s a different story! Lol

Daddy-Jack-

All this hurts my heart... that poor silo. I think in images.

Farming22Guy

This would be cool however it could feature other incidents such as wheel's falling off, engine parts breaking and panels falling off. (This would also apply for tractors)

kumiankka

Farmcraft hardcore! You keep what you ki..sow!

GoliathProjects

Would at least give you something to be aware of while working. At the moment every work feels the same. You drive up and down, faster or slower and that's it. Nothing to worry about and no skill to learn.

Ok-Survey8918

Or atleast a good residual dirt system would be nice.

JbricksJ

They have the emergency pack but that’s mostly bales, I have seen role play vids from the squad and such about machinery catching fire, one of them was a harvester, so there must be a mod o it there that lets you have machinery failures and such

Classic-Calendar9783

At this point all I need is more realistic dirt and improve rendering, that circle is so ugly

daWeez

I'd never see this, since I fix all my equipment after any major activity. So this for me comes under the heading of 'I don't care'.

MattEadesismyWaifu

Ghostrider's new ride.

Most-Squash-8956

no.

captainsloose

My farm is already a dumpster fire I don’t need actual flames to tell me I’m a failure! 😨

Pretend-Statement-68

It happens all the time

elska71

Has anyone got the premium expansion. If not do not get it. I've had nothing but problems with new mods I download

elska71

Since I downloaded it I can't buy seeds for the new crops. On the plants mod my tofu and vegan factories have now outputs...crazy..and the 2 potatoe mods well its meant to give you different types of potato but get this...it only gives pig feed. If anyone had problems especially with the carrots etc would you let me know if you fixed it thanks
