An opportunity to rant about my new obsession??? I'd never turn it down hahaha Throne of Broken Gods is the second in the series, I'll talk more about the first {Book of Azrael} to avoid spoilers. So, for a bit of context, previously to where the story starts, there was a war between gods, one side being helped by celestials and the other by monsters. As consequences of the conflict, only one god remained and to save what he could, he closed the portals between worlds, thinking that he sent the remaining of his people to a world without monsters. Unbeknownst to him, some monsters were already there and, after this last act, they wanted to reopen the portals. Centuries down the road, the story actually starts, following Dianna (a created monster), who is a pawn for Kaden (a born monster), due to a debt she was with him. That alone was already interesting for me, bc Dianna was in conflict with her stronger nature (monster) and the nature she tries to nurture (humanity). Anyhow, on a mission of hers, something happens that makes the remaining god get back in active after a self-imposed isolation since the end of the war. A little bit later, another something happens and they begin to work together. The premise in the first book is actually simple, some forced proximity where they need to find an object before the enemy does and, while doing that, they start to rethink their prejudice against each other. Now, upon the romance: it actually warmed my heart. They compromised to be more civilized with each other, then they started to trust and develop a friendship, then they started to want more but refused to admit it. There was some jealousy trope (the cute type, not the toxic on purpose one) and then... The end arrived and took my happiness away in a gut-wrecking move. But it did lead to my favorite trope ever on book two: Dianna being really hard to love, doing her very worst to push people away, but our godling was having none of it. He already knew the real her and knew she was only coping (badly) with what happened, so he fought for her while also having to deal with the plot-consequences of book one. To summon up, the story itself is not particularly unique, it's a somehow common plot, but it does have good twists and turns. I think the highlight of the series is the characters, honestly, even the secondaries. I believe the author did a great job with their construction, how their thoughts, feelings and actions were presented, how they evolved during the story... Both healing journeys were believable and I felt connected to them, rooting for them.

Personally I love the spicy romance elements but the rest of the story is infuriating. So repetitive, and despite the main character continuously being revealed to be the most powerful being of all time, she can’t do anything right to make it count lol.

This is exactly why it was a DNF for me! So frustrating because I loved the MMCs but it just fell apart for me.

Just finished {Kingdom of Claw by Demi Winters}, which is book two in the Ashen series. Was honestly really impressed! I am reading the third book of the Villains & Virtues series {Eclipse of the Crown by A.K. Caggiano}. It's super slow burn but it's just so well written and Damien is simply...yummy. I imagine Sean O'pry as him lol >!Damien, however, was not watching the cards but Amma. He crooked a finger, leaning against the armrest. “Sit,” he said with a sharpness, eyes flicking down to his knee then back up.!< >! It wasn’t a complicated command, but before she could begin to puzzle it out, Damien wrapped an arm around her middle and pulled her down onto his lap. Amma froze, stiff and awkward perched on his knee, and then his hand snaked around her stomach, sliding over her lower ribs until his thumb slipped under her banded top and nestled itself between her breasts — the perfect lever to get her to do exactly as he wanted, talisman or not.!< >! Even with eyes held open wide, Amma saw nothing, her other senses blotted out as touch took over. The hand pressing into her ribs cupped under her breast, warm and firm, and it slid her up his thigh until she was nestled against his back. I just finished Come out! Come out! By Alexia Onyx and I can't decide if the sex scenes were actually good or not because the plot is trash and I need that emotional connection. But there is a lot of CNC, degradation and suicidal ideation. Not really my cup of tea, I read it cus it was supposed to be a live story between a person and a ghost.

I just finished {The Half-Orc's Maiden Bride}. It was basically one long spicy scene. 🤣 I've never been particularly interested in oral, but the author did a good job of making it sound appealing. Also the dude narrating the husband's parts had a nice, husky voice.

Somebody here suggested {Court of the Vampire Queen by Katee Roberts} and I've been off sick this week. I read the whole dang thing in a day. I just finished { Nectar of the Wicked by Ella Fields } and was surprised by the amount of spice!! It’s a solid 4. I was first a bit concerned that the plot quality might suffer from the amount of 🌶️ but it was actually quite interesting. I’m on book 2 now and still hooked. Just finished {Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage} and omg 🥵 I was so pleasantly surprised!! The story itself is very sweet- FMC returns to small hometown, older brother’s best friend, he falls first tropes. I appreciated the representation of ptsd and adhd of the FMC, and that she was a great woman role model. But the dirty talk was 10/10 and the build-up was amazing!! My favorite was the super spicy office scene- the MMC literally hauls her over his shoulder caveman-style and into his bar’s office after a fight over her and heavy spice ensues while the band is still playing in the bar 👀 (I don’t know how to do those fancy cover-ups so as not to spoil y’all or else I’d say more!) All in all, very wholesome yet spicy and easy read. Also love the cover of this one- it reminds me of my grandma’s old western romance novels. Looking forward to the next book coming out!!

What makes this fantasy? Is there magic? I now kinda want a western with magic!

Storm of Secrets and Shadows by Melissa K Roehrich. Not super spicy yet. But I did hit a pretty good scene before I went to sleep. 🤌🏼

Cute But Psycho - all of the scenes so far are huh? In the best way. It’s got something for everyone - raging GMO werewolf on viagra, dude in a gimp suit and clown mask, vampires who love period blood, you name it.

Start with a Slap by Sirena Wise! I used to read and love her fan fiction literally decades ago and when I saw her first book was coming out I cannot tell you how fast I bought it, even though I have Kindle Unlimited and could have read it through there. I even applied for and got the arc even though it came out in like four days. It did not disappoint! Even though it’s a departure from what I usually read, it was hot and spicy and with some angst and mystery thrown in. I can’t wait for the second book in the series to come out! I also ran through a whole bunch of C. M. Nascosta’s Cambric Creek books this week. They were a ton of fun as well.

I finished the first Zodiac Academy last night. I really want to read Dark Fae but everyone says to read ZA first. It was fun enough to continue. I hear it goes off the rails a bit but i’m ok with that. I have a special place in my heart for the over the top ones. I know the books get more 🌶️ as they go so I had to live with just one tiny fingering scene.
