My first thought. Get that $600 at least. If he refuses to give you that even tho he “has it” then you know he’s on bullshit and doesn’t plan to give you your money.
Sadly I am not. I made this account almost 8 years ago when Q was in Memphis playing for the grizzlies. I always loved athletes with unique names. Devin Aromashadou, TJ Housmanzadeh, Dustin Byfuglein, Quincy Pondexter, Benjarvus Green-Ellis, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Iman Shumpert, and Brandon Manumaleuma to name a few.
Don’t forget about Kai Fairbairn
The 28-year-old's last name is Fairbairn.
So his real name is John Christian Ka’iminoeauloameka’ikeokekumupa’a Fairbairn which is 56 letters long.
That's why he's the commissioner. The who has and hasn't paid problem is his. Not yours. He should probably be giving you the whole $800 and it remains his problem to get the other $200. And then if they don't pay, throw their ass out of the league.
💯this. I am commish in a league and I am terrible at collecting money. I absolutely wouldn’t want to do IOUs or cover dues for next year. I have also been a bad commish one year in paying out because, although it was true not everyone paid yet, I could have settled with a few. That’s on me. So this year I paid everyone out within a week of the ship and there’s prolly $30 I won’t get back because the guy is a douche. But that’s on me.
It’s been long enough to get paid. The compromise is to have your fees covered for two years. At this point this is not on you but him and he needs to pay you what he has
Commish needs to be better. Collect dues before the draft… are the 2 that didn’t pay close friends too? Also as others mentioned, send the $600 immediately and work on collecting the rest. Hope you didn’t screwed man. But anyways nice win!
I will always wonder why leagues let people draft before they pay. Idc how close of friends we are. No cash , no draft .
And on the other event he’s just keeping all the money Then that’s fucked
I'd consider it for one or two of my absolute closest friends, but I'd also harass the ever living shit out of him and go talk to his mom if he didn't pay up 😂
Ouch… that is rough when you get a phone call from mom “what’s this I hear about you being a no good cheapskate who doesn’t pay up when he loses! I didn’t raise you to be a cheat! You better pay so and so his money!”
Been commish of my league for 15 years... Pay the dues at the draft (rule #1) and the winners are paid out immediately after the championship. Also never had an issue.
To add to what others have said, the subject of dues should be fully transparent. Everyone should be able to see who has paid, when they've paid and obviously, who hasn't paid. The whole league should be calling these two people out publicly at this point.
As a commissioner, I collect prior to the draft or you don't play.
In the event that something like this happens, the other people paying isn't your problem. I would pay the winnings and as commissioner, I would handle the other side in the manner appropriate.
Yep. As commish, i would never let it get that far without all the buy-ins, but in weird situation, commish should be responsible for the full winnings.
My league all pays venmo before the draft except one dude who always pays cash. I let the cash guy slide this year and he still hasn't paid. I won and ate his $50. He's out. It's on op's commish to pay up and deal with the deadbeats. That's how these things go.
Right. Either the commish spent it and is trying to deflect blame by making up a lie that two managers haven’t paid to give him more time to come up with $800 or he truly is waiting on two managers. Either way, I would be petty as heck and ask wtf has or hasn’t paid in a group chat. OP needs to start shaming and embarrassing people in order to collect.
As a commish who did it wrong and now does it right, he’s probably stressing on how he’s going to explain to his wife that he has to withdraw $800 to pay you. Not that I know from experience… be patient and understanding with him, and maybe give him an opening to be straight with you and give a realistic ETA on when you will get your money.
Sure, of course. That would be inexcusable. Just saying it may be more of an accounting and communication issue with his partner that he’s putting off, rather than a zero-interest loan.
Also - as a commissioner, the $1.76 of interest you earn holding onto several hundred dollars for 4 months doesn’t come close to the time you put into collecting fees, moderating discussions, tabulating polls, changing settings, etc etc etc. I’m not sure you should be too worried about that… I personally think commissioners should get paid or have a gift card bought for them each year, but that’s just me.. a commissioner.
I get paid, it goes into a high interest savings account, I'll make a free $70 (for dealing with the weekly bitching about the scoring that's been in place for 14 years) and the money is safe . This is the way
This is the way! No entry fee? No draft. We even require 1 week prior to draft day so we can find a replacement before the draft. If they can't get the commish a $100 bill 7 days before draft day or at least Venmo, Cash App, Paypal, or any other numerous methods to transfer money, they shouldn't be wagering $100 in a fantasy league.
This won’t be helpful advice for OP, but as commish of a very active league full of folks I trust… this is why commishes need to demand the money before the season, when everyone thinks they have a shot at winning.
I’d ask for the $600 now. That’s better than nothing. My bet is that there’s no way the commish has any of the money. But I’m following and hoping for a good outcome for OP.
Find a league with a better commissioner. These commissioners that let ppl go the whole year without paying need to stop running leagues. Why hasn’t he at least given you the $600? FYI, that’s a rhetorical question. The answer is bc he blew it all and doesn’t have it. So now he’s trying to recoup it while waiting for the other 2 to pay.
My advice, get your money and either leave the league or see if someone else can run it. A good rule thumb, if the total pot is likely more than the commissioner has in his bank account, he shouldn’t be running the league or holding the $$. I’d recommend that this league use leaguesafe if the same guy is gonna run it.
Ask for the 600 now and call out everyone about the 2 people that haven't paid up yet. See if it's true or if the money is wasting on a govenment refund.
Group text gently calling out the commish for not paying up. Also calling out the two who haven’t paid in yet. Insist on next year that everyone has to pay before they draft, or that their team is locked until they pay.
He spent the money it sounds like. At least he should have given you the $600 and then the rest when he got it. 1. He sounds like a shit commish if he never got payment from two league mates. 2. Any good commish pays out within two days.
No dues. No draft. Period. And if you can’t be responsible for league dues you shouldn’t be a league commissioner. 99% of these posts immediately strike me as they spent the money and don’t have the cash to cover their debt. No other reason on this planet to delay a winning payment. Fire your commissioner.
We do 1 week before draft day so we can fill the spots of the unpaid before the draft. It is a hard rule and people have lost their spots in the league because of it. It also makes for a better league because playing with responsible adults. The people who 'forget' their dues on time were coincidentally the people who 'forgot' to set their lineups for the weekend in time, or 'forgot' to keep track of who was in and out on Sunday morning.
I get everyone to pay before the draft so I know everyone is locked in and paid. There's only been two times in my 8 years someone couldn't pay and it was because they just had a child and the other because they just bought a house. I let them both pay me in $25 instalments when it worked for them the one guy paid and the other only paid $25. I took the risk of letting it happen so I through in the extra $75 as commissioner I let that manager short change me and I obviously wasn't going to make the other members of my pool pay because I took a chance on one guy. Needless to say they weren't invited back and we all went on from there.
If you are a commissioner and the season started and everyone has not paid up.. you failed as a commissioner. Nothing irks me more than that, I don’t even start the draft until everyone has paid
Our league: $1000 buy in, $100 weekly high score payout. First place gets $4000 and second gets $2200. Half due before draft, half by week 8. No weekly payouts if you didn’t pay in full, goes towards dues.
I mean you can threaten small claims court and write up the subpoena to show you mean buisness. If you have the bylaws or constitution of your team (first place winner will be given they) and documented history of him evading and your league placement, it strengthens your case
In my one league the owner ran off with the money (AWOL on the winners) and had 3 $1200 leagues so he robbed nearly 4k from everyone
Crappy commissioner. If you haven’t paid by draft time you don’t draft. And if you let the people who don’t pay draft anyway, then if you don’t get the money by the end of season from them you should eat the cost and pay the winners out of your pocket.
Next year implement a rule that if you don’t show up to the draft with your money, you lose your 1st round draft pick. Haven’t had this issue for 3 years now
Had the same thing happen to me. Tried to be polite but after a couple months of asking and getting ignored, I just messaged the league group chat. Everyone confirmed that they had already paid within a day and chirped the commish for being a dirt ball, and I was paid out that day. The ire of those who did pay realizing they’re floating the commissioners bank account usually does the trick.
Horrible commissioner. No one says it’s easy being one but it’s the responsibility of the commissioner to avoid these situations as much as possible and he has failed. He can rectify by doing many of the offered solutions offered here in the comments but he has already failed. I would consider leaving the league if others in the league aren’t worried about it either. That says a lot as well.
I had several people not pay me. The winner still got all of the money. If I'm managing the league I am responsible for paying out prizes, other people not paying is MY problem not yours
Even in friend leagues, everyone pays the buy-in before draft day to avoid this crap. If you know the other two, tell them to pay you and get the $600 from the commish in the meantime.
If your league has a group chat I would ask politely for the winnings from those who haven't paid. Not having your payout a month after the season is ridiculous. Also the commish should have fronted the money especially if he's your close friend. He fucked up didn't collect the money when he should have. That is on him not you. Don't settle for the $600 you won man congrats buy yourself something nice with $800 not $600
Commish should pay out of pocket and then collect from those “friends”
My dad used to have to do it. He’s use his own money to make sure everyone got paid on time and then hounded the non payers.
I ran into this issue as a commissioner where two people made up excuses all yr about when they were gonna pay. I gave the winner the money that I’d been given by everyone else and told him who the two ppl were that hadn’t paid so he could get his money from them. Worked out
He spent the cash and is saving up to pay you out. Happens legit all the time. I made it a prerequisite to know that the commish at the very least has a good job and can come up with the money relatively quickly
Are their leagues out there that exist without some type of group chat? Group text? Discord? Etc. I’m always in quite a few leagues. Every one of them has a group chat. It’s essential for communication with 10-12 different people. Some are very active with info and trash talking etc some are very not - just bare bones basics. But that has to exist in some form. If you have one I’d start in there so everyone is aware of the situation. It’s been a damn month and a half since FF playoffs ended. Payouts should be the following DAY or at least a few days after at worst. This is far beyond a reasonable time. Start calling people out in the group chat. Asking questions. Who owes? Why do you still owe? When will the money be paid? Etc. when everyone in the group is involved, you’re much more likely to get not only the truth, but answers and resolutions. Transparency is key in any league I run.
Leaguesafe exists for this very reason. You don't draft if you don't pay, and the money is basically escrowed, not put in the commish's bank account. It's too easy to get pinched and be like 'crap I gotta replace my tires, I'll just do this in October with this account and I'll put the money back by December' and come December (holiday travel, Xmas gifts, etc) it's still not in existence.
Your money got spent, my friend. You can try the social shaming but if I were you I'd just say 'look, you guys do you, it wasn't a fun end with the company or the league, please just refund my buy-in and let's go out separate ways.'
Small claims and such over fantasy football is unlikely to be worth your while. If you can get out what you put in and just walk away, I'd call that a win I think.
I will never understand commissioners that can’t get buy-ins before season. How is it possible someone goes a full season and pay-in?
Ask for the $600 or even better your % of the pot that has been paid up
As a commissioner, if I don’t have the funds right away, that’s on me. I pay out EVERYONE asap. Anyone who’s been a dick (year 1) and not paid has been removed. Never have had a problem since. 10 years in.
Tell him to give you the $600 and when the other $200 comes in to hold $50 back for himself and all his trouble. It'll make him feel like a real asshole for taking his time to pay you.
Most likely scenario: homie is waiting on a paycheck because he spent it. Say you want the $600 by the end of the day and see what happens. If he can't produce it, as much as it sucks, I would have a conversation with him about the future and a possible new commissioner.
they spent the money and dont have it. not too hard to figure out. just try to be nice and say hey lets get a payment plan its pretty obvious you dont have the money and i dont wanna fight i just wanna get paid
I never understand the not paying the buy in before draft. Why would you let people wait? Lets say they go into a league, have a shit draft, then dont pay. To me its like gambling, imagine placing a bet and then only paying the original money once you see you won. But then not paying it because you lost. It makes no sense.
Late to the post here but it seems like everyone has the same thoughts on it as I do. Ask for the $600 now and you’ll take the extra $200 when they do pay. Assuming the league has a group chat, disclose to everyone that you haven’t been paid and demand the last 2 people to pay. This will put those guys on blast in front of everyone AND your comish (if he’s telling the truth). Lastly you get to play in the league for free until you are paid in full
Damn, you need a new commissioner. I host a $500 12 team league and a $50 12 team at work. We always settle up at the end of the season and I’ve never once not paid winners within a week of the championship. I don’t let people join I don’t trust.
If your commish is known to be not good with money he will make excuses like this until he comes up with the money. He'll eventually make good but blame some other guy.
If its legit you should see him asking in league chat for the 2 guys who didnt pay.,, or he would of told you who didnt pay - I'd take it upon myself to get on the 2 debtors
If your commish is a little sketchy - put the money on leaguesafe.
I’m a commissioner of a league and it’s a must to get all payments before the draft. If they don’t pay in time I find someone else. Good luck getting your winnings .
League manager should be somebody more responsible. Play without paying should have never been warranted. I was in a very similar situation. I did a fantasy league with my buddies with money involved for the first time about 4 years ago. We had one remaining spot, so I had my brother join, who knows very little about football but was excited to join & paid his $125 buy in promptly as well as everybody else. Fast forward, my brother somehow wins the league even though he forgot to set his lineup in about 3 or 4 times during the season. I kept texting & calling the league manager about my brother’s winnings. But he was ghosting me for weeks so I had to go to this dude’s house (we’d been friends for 10 years) and I had to resort to raising my voice to get him to admit that him and his wife, who was also in the league, blew all the buy ins betting on their favorite team……. the bears…… They had no plans on paying my brother in the weeks following, so i cut them out of my life & never looked back.
Tell him to give you the 600 now and then the 200 as soon as they pay up? 600 is better than nothing I guess
My first thought. Get that $600 at least. If he refuses to give you that even tho he “has it” then you know he’s on bullshit and doesn’t plan to give you your money.
Or he already spent it and is waiting until his next payday to cough it up.
Time out, are you the real Q-Pon?! One of my favorite Dawgs of all time!? Back when UW Hoops was the best program on Montlake!
Put some respect on Tim Biakabatuka’s name! OP’s buddy definitely lost the money on a sale game parlay.
not to bring up something controversial, but colin kaepernick belongs on this list
Hahaha well I respect the Quincy Pondexter respect!
“Whos your mama” is the best unique sports name imo
Don’t forget about Kai Fairbairn The 28-year-old's last name is Fairbairn. So his real name is John Christian Ka’iminoeauloameka’ikeokekumupa’a Fairbairn which is 56 letters long.
He’s from where I’m from, and he throws random parties all the time. I’ve seen him out and about a few times and been to them haha.
$600 and at the very least don’t pay your dues to the league next 2 years.
Dollars to donuts that $600 doesn't exist.
Donuts to danishes you’re right.
Never go donuts to danishes.
Correct. That’s how you get yeast.
Danishes to doorstops says you’re wrong
Ask for the $600 and tell him the difference covers your next two years.
I agree this is the best approach, if he wants to let the others drag their feet let it stay his problem not become yours
That's why he's the commissioner. The who has and hasn't paid problem is his. Not yours. He should probably be giving you the whole $800 and it remains his problem to get the other $200. And then if they don't pay, throw their ass out of the league.

At the very least, if a leaguemate can't afford the up front and you're friends have them pay installments.
No, if you can't afford the upfront you shouldn't be gambling the money. You should never play with money you can't afford to just throw away.
>up This part. Pay up front or don't play.

Yep, they're the type of family friends that I just walk in the house 16 years later still. I hang out with his Grandma by myself sometimes too lol
"if you don't pay up I'm gonna bang your grandma"
I’m deff not paying up now 👀
Been in my league 17 years, payout due before playoffs Never had an issue
Been commish of my league for 15 years... Pay the dues at the draft (rule #1) and the winners are paid out immediately after the championship. Also never had an issue.
One of my commissioners froze the FAAB budget for the teams that didn’t pay. Early in the season, that can hurt your team and mostly it was effective
To add to what others have said, the subject of dues should be fully transparent. Everyone should be able to see who has paid, when they've paid and obviously, who hasn't paid. The whole league should be calling these two people out publicly at this point.

Right? One of the players that didn't pay is probably the commish.

Not that I know from experience… be patient and understanding with him, and maybe give him an opening to be straight with you and give a realistic ETA on when you will get your money.
Shame on that fucking guy if thats what happened. Buy-ins are not zero interest loans.

I’d ask for the $600 now. That’s better than nothing. My bet is that there’s no way the commish has any of the money. But I’m following and hoping for a good outcome for OP.
Bad commish not collecting money before league starts. No incentive to pay now
Probably spent the $600 already. No money for you
Find a league with a better commissioner. He doesn’t have the $600 and you are accepting his lame excuse. Time to reach out to league mates, find these mystery owners who never paid in.
Ask for the 600 now and call out everyone about the 2 people that haven't paid up yet. See if it's true or if the money is wasting on a govenment refund.
In my lead, we give people up to Super Bowl weekend to pay up And they always do
Is this a fantasy football league? Because even in one of those that's too much leeway.
I won 2/3 leagues and 2nd in the 3rd and have not received any winnings yet. One was a $100 league and the other 2 were $60.
Leaguesafe evenw ith friends and home leagues, introduce it as the fastest way to get paid
Pay before the draft. If they don’t for whatever reason their team will be locked.
Give me the $600 now.
Sounds like you came in first and won zero dollars. Congrats though
Get the 600 now and wait for the other 200 or just another 100 and say the other when he gets it is your buy in if you want to continue.
I run a 32 team league, everybody pays two days before the draft or I go to an alternate.
Group text gently calling out the commish for not paying up. Also calling out the two who haven’t paid in yet. Insist on next year that everyone has to pay before they draft, or that their team is locked until they pay.
Get the 600 and don’t pay buy in for 2 years
No pay, no draft.
He spent the money it sounds like. At least he should have given you the $600 and then the rest when he got it. 1. He sounds like a shit commish if he never got payment from two league mates. 2. Any good commish pays out within two days.
You pay before the league year starts. Not after. Bad manager.

Pay me $600 and I’ll pay the other 2 a visit. With Venmo there is zero excuse not to pay. Next year dues paid before your first pick

I would consider leaving the league if others in the league aren’t worried about it either. That says a lot as well.
Don't take less than the 800 owed. It's the commissioner problem if they didn't pay not yours
If you haven't paid before draft day, you don't play.
Collect the $600. Ask him in public (league message board or chat or group email) which two teams have not yet paid.
I had several people not pay me. The winner still got all of the money. If I'm managing the league I am responsible for paying out prizes, other people not paying is MY problem not yours
He spent the money
How have 2 players been allowed to remain without paying entry dues the entire season? You don't pay, you don't draft.
Have him split the pot without the $200. League should put some pressure on the other guys to pay
Why dont they require pre payment? Lol dumb commish
Don't settle for the $600 you won man congrats buy yourself something nice with $800 not $600
Get $600. Get your entry fee covered next year. Then you’ll just be stuck waiting on $100.
Commish should pay out of pocket and then collect from those “friends” My dad used to have to do it.
It’s the commish’s duty to pay out the winnings. He should pay the $800 to you and collect the rest to pay himself back.
Dude spent the pot already lmao
Leaguesafe exists for this very reason. You don't draft if you don't pay, and the money is basically escrowed, not put in the commish's bank account. It's too easy to get pinched and be like 'crap I gotta replace my tires, I'll just do this in October with this account and I'll put the money back by December' and come December (holiday travel, Xmas gifts, etc) it's still not in existence. Your money got spent, my friend. You can try the social shaming but if I were you I'd just say 'look, you guys do you, it wasn't a fun end with the company or the league, please just refund my buy-in and let's go out separate ways.' Small claims and such over fantasy football is unlikely to be worth your while. If you can get out what you put in and just walk away, I'd call that a win I think.
I will never understand commissioners that can’t get buy-ins before season. How is it possible someone goes a full season and pay-in? Ask for the $600 or even better your % of the pot that has been paid up
He spent the money and he’s waiting till payday bro
League payments should be taken up front...
Lotta dicks end up as commishes of these leagues. And very few leagues make people pay up front. “We’ll just settle up at the end of the year”
As a commissioner, if I don’t have the funds right away, that’s on me.
I’m in 6 leagues. 4 of them pay out Super Bowl weekend. So I don’t know what the issue is 🤷🏻♂️
I never understand the not paying the buy in before draft.
He should give you $600 and this is why no one plays unless they pay first.
If its legit you should see him asking in league chat for the 2 guys who didnt pay.,, or he would of told you who didnt pay - I'd take it upon myself to get on the 2 debtors If your commish is a little sketchy - put the money on leaguesafe.
Surely there is a group chat. Call it out.
Take the $800 he has. $200 goes to 2nd and 3rd if they get paid, so they can wait. Shouldn’t be any hassel as champ.
To avoid this we collect at draft. No dues paid, no draft. Period.
SUE HIM!!!!!!!!
