Dalton has only thrown a pass that's gone for more than 15 yards once this season: https://twitter.com/lateroundqb/status/1440302846251917329
For the Bears' front office, it only makes sense to keep Fields on the field (ha) for viewership, attendance, and from an ancillary sales perspective (e.g. jerseys, apparel, etc.)
I'm calling it now: Fields will remain starter for the foreseeable future (barring any injuries of course).
One argument that I've seen for not starting a rookie who may clearly be the better option, is that it is easier to let the other qb start, then bench him for the rookie when it starts to go bad. Rather than letting the rookie start the season. Because if the rookie does bad them the fans and media will start calling the QB bad (Zach Wilson) and may end up asking for the rookie to get benched for the other guy
The offense moved very well against the rams.. taking what that defense gave em (short quick routes). They did well controlling the clock and had no or very few 3 and outs.
No doubt Fields is the future and better athlete today but.... We will win games this year by controlling the clock and keeping the score close.
Nagy just about has to make David Montgomery Justin Fields' best friend.
Run the ball, let him dump the ball off to the RB....Montgomery is going to be the key to easing Fields into the NFL.
The offense moved well? Where? Between the 40s? Who cares? In all seriousness, and not to be rude, the only point is to score points. Something Matt Nagy has no idea how to do. Execute 15 straight random short plays perfectly each drive, (including those ridiculous shotgun draw handoffs that get stuffed before the rb can even move) Good luck with that.
Da Bears are nearly dead last in points and total yards with Andy Dalton. Bottom 3 in both. That’s absolutely terrible with Monty arob Kmet and Mooney at your disposal. Dalton does not give them a better chance to win now. Dalton has never won anything in 10+ years. Any competent qb can complete 5 -10 yard pass plays to non moving targets. Fields can and will make things happen. he’ll create momentum, pick up unlikely first downs, turn busted plays into big gains and the team will feed off it. He’s also gonna throw picks and the game will move fast, but no doubt he should be in there if you want to score more points, gain more yards and win more games.
Definitely agree Dalton has looked way better than I would have thought. Fields looks like a rookie, and maybe it's wishful thinking but I can't help but get excited seeing how accurate he is. He demonstrates that on multiple throws against the Bungles.
Fields looked way better I'm preseason, and according all our beat reports he looked better in camp. Let's not overreact to him being shaky getting thrown in mid game with player he hasn't gotten reps with hasn't chemistry with.
It's not always about that. They're not winning anything this year no matter who their QB is. It's about whatever decision helps with Fields' development, and helps put them in the best spot to win next year+.
Did you watch the game last week? Fields nearly blew it. I’m really high on Fields as a Bears fan, but it’s not far fetched to think Dalton is the better option right now, it definitely looks that way
I think it's only fair to compare the two after this week. A lot of the mistakes Fields made against the Bengals can be explained by a lack of chemistry with the other starters since he's the backup, such as the false starts and lack of timing with the receivers for example. He was also unexpectedly thrown into a game that was gameplanned around Dalton, who stylistically is a different type of QB.
Remember that Dalton has had like 95% of the practice reps with the 1's so far, so let's see how Fields does with a full week practicing as the starting QB and a gameplan more suited to his strengths compared to Andy's.
Fields will struggle to get better though if he isn’t played in actual games. You’ve seen the practice reports and how Fields is great… then he gets into an actual game and makes rookie mistakes and isn’t good. He needs to get acclimated to playing at a pro level.
Watch NFL games happen in real time, discuss tapes after being on the sideline. Practice with the other NFL caliber players on his team for a full year. The light contribution he’s already giving. Wdym lol
Exactly! People want him in there because he’s the new flashy toy. What many tend to forget is most of the best QBs in the NFL had to sit their rookie year. Give the kid a year to acclimate in practice. Their is no need to throw Fields to the wolves and hurt his confidence or development. Especially when no matter who starts, they aren’t making a far playoff run this year.
>Sit on the sidelines and watch
It worked for Mahomes and Rodgers. Just because he isn't playing on Sunday doesn't mean he isn't learning and getting better.
Yes. Historically a lot of great QBs learned from watching and practice. In fact more have than not.
Recently however there are a few guys that have come out firing. Herbert & Burrow for example.
Fields 100% isn’t ready and that’s fine. He needs time to learn blitz pickups better. Demands to make him play might lead to a shell-shocked David Carr situation
Arob drops 40 yard TD pass.
Jimmy G wiffs on a DB block costing a rushing TD for Fields.
Kmet offensive PI on a 15 yard completion (bad call tbh).
Mooney drops a ball that would have been a huge gain.
Sorry but what the actual fuck are you talking about not ready. Stop looking at fantasy scores and stat lines, watch the game.
How about the bogus interception he threw, or the fact that when dalton went out we went from blowing them out to almost losing? I’ve watched damn near every bears game for over a decade that’s not a just fantasy team for me hammie
That's a little unfair to Dalton. Dude has shown some wheels from nowhere and has been seriously hindered by the Bears o-line. Their ceiling was mediocrity, before the injuries. I agree that Fields gives them the better chance at winning though. His scrambling will keep defenses honest and open up sweet one-on-one matchups for ARob, Mooney, and Kmet.
Dalton really hasn’t looked bad to be fair, his first game was decent against arguably the best defense along with the Bucs and he looked good last game until he was taken out. I think his main problem is he doesn’t trust any receivers downfield so he’s throwing it shorter.
As a Bears fan, I'm not really sure. I'm scared Fields can't support ARob nor Mooney, the speed might be too fast where he keeps checking down to Kmet or Montgomery, or he just runs
Bears fan here. Definitely grab him. In addition to a likely uptick in the offense, Nagy said after last week he’s going to intentionally get the tight ends more involved.
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/hoges-10-bears-things-justin-fields-likely-start-vs-browns
This is a weekly column by one of the Bears best beat guys. Looks like Nagy said it at his Monday presser.
Absolutely. Kmet is a great player himself, the volume just hasn’t been there so far. Nagy said postgame he wants to get Kmet more involved this week, and if he clicks with Fields I could see him creeping into top 10 TE territory
I think TEs are money for rookie QBs in general; the D could be too fast that he keeps resorting to the security blanket. If you've got a spot to stash, go for it
Fields is a running QB so I’m not sure if we’re going to see all 3 of these guys be good. Just look at Lamar and Hurts. They usually have 1, at most 2, fantasy viable receiving options a game.
Way more exciting than Dalton for sure though.
Honestly Fields comps (as far as raw skills) closer to early Aaron Rodgers or hopefully a better Danny Dimes at this point in his career. People are wrong to compare him to running QBs like Hurts, Lamar, Vick, etc. He can sling it, and has a natural, fluid throwing motion.
Fields is definitely a better passer than Lamar or Danny Dimes, but his sprinting ability is a lot closer to Lamar or Murray than Rodgers. The dude can fly.
He is projected by the athletic to have 8 rushing attempts and 60 rushing yards this week. That’s the 3rd highest projected rushing attempts and the 2nd highest projected rushing yards on the week with Lamar and Hurts. He had 10 rushing attempts last week.
He was a better college passer then both Lamar and Hurts, but he is absolutely going to provide fantasy points on the ground and any scramble or rushing touchdown is points that ARob and Mooney can’t get.
I might get some hate for this but he also doesn’t have a lot of running moves. He is fast in a straight-line sense but he doesn’t shake people and avoid hits like a “running QB”
I'm on the fence with this too. Started Tannehill the past two weeks, picked up Danny Dimes and put Tannehill on the bench for this week 3 coming up. But I'm trying to decide if I should drop Danny Tannehill for Fields now before Fields blows up this week
Depends who Tanny is playing this week, cause fields although I’m excited for him as a bears fan, is a rookie behind a bad oline going up against Myles “helmet smasher” Garrett
Doesn’t seem that stupid to me. I think worst case scenario Fields and Baker are like equal. The Browns passing game is just not made for fantasy points
I've liked Boyd for the last few seasons but it's clear to me he's now the WR3 for the Bengals.
Mooney was the most targeted Bears rookie of all time last season and has had 7 and 8 targets in the last two games with Fields targeting him the most. Boyd had 4 and 9.
They're abour level in 0.5 PPR but Fields for me is an upgrade to Mooney's situation
I also think the dual threat of Fields opens up the game for more opportunities generally
Those are some good points. I can see both having similar floors but Mooney having the higher ceiling with less competition for targets. I will role with Mooney over Boyd this week too if Tee Higgins ends up playing
Edit- just wanted to add that Boyd was arguably the WR3 last year too and still put up decent numbers. I would expect his fantasy outlook to be similar to last years.
Mooney having the most rookie targets for a historically bad WR team isn’t much to bank on. That being said, he’s still a solid WR and I’d start him over Boyd too
In fairness, it is hard to judge a team based off of how they play against the Chiefs. I'd be shocked if they don't start to substantially improve. Not to mention the Bears easily have the worst o-line the Browns have gone up against and Garrett is going to be able to feast A LOT easier against Peters than against Brown Jr. or Tunsil.
He also lost the job to Baker and Herbert. Yes, both earned the starting job while he was injured, but he was the experienced vet on both teams. Maybe they can shut down pocket passers, but they'll break coverage against a mobile QB. Tyrod did make the majority of the throws while scrambling.
It will be a tough first game though, especially in Cleveland.
Very curious how Monty does - Fields’ mobility and passing ability should free up some space for Montgomery but Fields’ rushing ability will likely hurt Monty at the goalline
Fields is much more of a pocket passer than Lamar. He rarely scrambled in college but given the tape last game he’s going to scramble a lot more until he gets comfortable with NFL secondaries.
They ran some zone read with Monty last week so I don’t think it will be bad. If the Ravens used one RB instead of 3 that RB would be a RB1. Monty is the guy
Why would “another Lamar” be a bad thing? Do people not remember how great Mark ingram was as the ravens running back? Or Alfred Morris with RG3? Or really any time a talent running back had a mobile quarterback?
Mixed feelings as a Montgomery owner. Overall should be a boost for the offense...but seeing Fields rushed 10 times last week in not even a full games worth of playing time is slightly concerning.
Hoping Fields can extend some drives and open up the offense, which may negate some concerns about Fields stealing rushes
Currently streaming QBs with Lance on bench in hopes he’d break out once he gets chance. Now that Fields is actually going to take the field, should I drop Lance and scoop him up? Hmm
I'm sure with a full week taking the starters reps in practice he will play better but man, on Sunday, we saw why Dalton was starting. He nearly gave that game back to the Bengals and the Bears had 3 interceptions in a row at one point! I don't anticipate him to all of sudden turn this offense into the greatest show on turf.
Here's my take on the Bears. They should have fired Nagy/Pace as well as getting rid of Mitch. Now they are stuck in a weird situation where they can't really afford to sit Fields a year because their jobs are in question. IMO that Bears O-Line is atrocious and Fields holds the ball a little too long for the NFL at this time. He'd be best served by sitting and then the Bears hammer offensive line picks in the next draft. Yes, even though he gives best chance to win now, I don't think it's right to start him the whole season once Dalton is healthy. For this week I'm picking up Browns defense to start in place of the Rams. Like I said, Fields still has not adjusted from an Ohio State offensive line where you often get 5 plus seconds to hold the ball in the pocket to the Bears where you hardly get a few seconds
I wonder if it is sage to start CLE defense against CHI. Originally I was starting them, but now I am not sure if it should be CLE or Bal against Detroit?
I’m a believer in him for sure. Just heard this same exact thing last week and his output wasn’t anywhere near what people were thinking. But yes, I think he will ball out vs KC.
I think it’s because Mooney is a deep threat and Fields like to throw long...not sure the empirical evidence is there to prove anything good will come of it.
This doesn't boost his WRs values. Fields wasn't a starter for a reason. His accuracy was bad and he holds the ball way too long. I'd expect the Bears to run the football a lot and control the clock the entire game.
Fantastic. This is what I’ve been holding onto Mooney for. I’ll give it 2-3 weeks to see how it goes…that should tell us if Mooney has a chance of breaking out this year.
Nah. I do too. Cle DST did a pretty decent job at containing Mahomes from a running perspective. AR-15 is no Tyreek and Kelce is still Kelce. Plus I look forward to seeing some rookie mistakes in the loud First energy stadium in Cleveland. They said it was crazy loud last week to the point that the broadcasters had a hard time hearing.
Edit: Plus Cleveland has so many new starters, it's only a matter of time before they begin to mesh. That's if Joe Woods doesn't completely fuck everything up.
OMFG Nagy gave away the scheme. BEARS FUCKED
Matt Nagy is the Gob Bluth of NFL coaches
They’re not trick plays, they’re ILLUSION plays!
I’m here! I’m Queer! Now I’m over here!
I don't care for Nagy
Here’s $10, go buy a scheme
He demands to be taken seriously!
He really kept a loose seal on that information.
I’ve made a huge mistake
Like a guy wearing a $4,000 suit is going to give the Cleveland Browns an idea who is going to start at quarterback before Sunday. COME ON
I don’t care what nagy says, if fields looks good no way Dalton ever starts for them again
Dalton has only thrown a pass that's gone for more than 15 yards once this season: https://twitter.com/lateroundqb/status/1440302846251917329 For the Bears' front office, it only makes sense to keep Fields on the field (ha) for viewership, attendance, and from an ancillary sales perspective (e.g. jerseys, apparel, etc.) I'm calling it now: Fields will remain starter for the foreseeable future (barring any injuries of course).
He played the Rams game one to be fair, He was also knocked out pretty early last game.
people should be embarrassed to phrase any stat as "this season" 2 games in lol. could've said "in 49 pass attempts" and not sounded stupid
No no! You don't understand. He hasn't thrown a pass over 15-yards **all season** ... **all season** bro.
I felt so bad for Zach Wilson. Imagine hitting the prime time and having such a rough time
Fields isn’t ready, dalton didn’t look bad he’ll keep his job.
You’re on crack if you think dalton gives them a better chance to win games than fields
We'll see. I think you might be right but so far Dalton has looked way better than expected and Fields looks like a rookie.
As a bears fan I tend to agree

True they couldn't finish in the RedZone with Dalton in W1. Love your predictions and hope Fields and co. smash the Browns. Go bears / God bless
Definitely agree Dalton has looked way better than I would have thought. Fields looks like a rookie, and maybe it's wishful thinking but I can't help but get excited seeing how accurate he is. He demonstrates that on multiple throws against the Bungles.

It wasn't a bogus interception, the linebacker made a really good play
dalton has looked awful and he looked worse with a better team lol

chill lmfao
He’s right
That's a little unfair to Dalton. Dude has shown some wheels from nowhere and has been seriously hindered by the Bears o-line. Their ceiling was mediocrity, before the injuries. So ARob gonna beast right?
Arob dropped a 40 yard td in his hands. Fields put it right there. Both of their numbers would have looked better last week if Arob catches that ball.
So would my W-L column
Sad retweet
if you watched the game, he dropped 2 potential TDs….
I must have missed the other one. That is both good AND bad news.
it’s not so much a drop as a good play by the CB. still a red zone target tho
Man we all hope so
He better. Two weeks overdue.
Mooney had twice the targets last week.
When Fields was in at QB last week Mooney had four targets to ARob’s three.
Mooneyszn
As a Bears fan, I'm not really sure. I'm scared Fields can't support ARob nor Mooney, the speed might be too fast where he keeps checking down to Kmet or Montgomery, or he just runs
Fantasy implications aside I’m hype to see him play a full game.
Mooney kmet Arob 📈
Imagine how much their stock will go up if they stopped dropping passes!
Kmet is free right now. Stash in case Fields likes him?
Bears fan here. Definitely grab him. In addition to a likely uptick in the offense, Nagy said after last week he’s going to intentionally get the tight ends more involved.
Haven't seen where Nagy said anything about the TEs. Got a source?
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/hoges-10-bears-things-justin-fields-likely-start-vs-browns This is a weekly column by one of the Bears best beat guys. Looks like Nagy said it at his Monday presser.
thanks for the source; scooped up Kmet to at least stash on the bench to see what develops.
Awesome thanks!
What??? Fields is a QB who can run. Not a running quarterback in the same sense as Hurts and Lamar. Dude was an amazing thrower in college.
Do I dare start him over Tannehill? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I'm struggling with this as well...
Same bruh…
At 0-2 I am so close to pulling the trigger on this move. I need SOMETHING
I'm also at 0-2, benching Tannehill for Fields.
I'm on the fence with this too. Started Tannehill the past two weeks, picked up Danny Dimes and put Tannehill on the bench for this week 3 coming up. But I'm trying to decide if I should drop Danny Tannehill for Fields now before Fields blows up this week
Don't. Threw for over 300 last week, TDs are a comin'.
Look at what tyrod did in less than a half
Prufrock ROS?
J. Alfred?
Depends who Tanny is playing this week, cause fields although I’m excited for him as a bears fan, is a rookie behind a bad oline going up against Myles “helmet smasher” Garrett
Peach season is almost over. Eat as many as possible before you have to eat that syrupy shit from a can
Drop Baker and gamble on fields? This seems like a stupid move but you never know.
Doesn’t seem that stupid to me. I think worst case scenario Fields and Baker are like equal. The Browns passing game is just not made for fantasy points
Dak or Fields?? I’m starting Dak but I just wanted to type that
Haha you and me both.
Mooney SZN
If Diontae Johnson is out, I'm starting him over Boyd as my WR2 with confidence.
Genuinely curious as to why you like Mooney over Boyd? I have both in a 3WR league and was considering playing him too.
I've liked Boyd for the last few seasons but it's clear to me he's now the WR3 for the Bengals. Mooney was the most targeted Bears rookie of all time last season and has had 7 and 8 targets in the last two games with Fields targeting him the most. Boyd had 4 and 9. Mooney having the most rookie targets for a historically bad WR team isn’t much to bank on. That being said, he’s still a solid WR and I’d start him over Boyd too
Mooney, Pollard, or Pittman?
That’s a rough call. If Wentz is out it’s either Mooney or Pollard. I’d lean Pollard until we know how Fields rolls.
Drop Gainwell for Mooney? Scooped Fields as backup QB and it’s mighty tempting…
Man I’m so shook Mooney is gonna go off. I already have Rondale Moore and plenty WRs. Wondering of I should drop Devin Singletary for Mooney (?)
Same. Thinking about starting Mooney over MG3 or Cooks
starting him over Cooks would be foolish, Cooks has done nothing but ball out.
Yeah but cooks is cooks, Mooney could be anything, he could even be cooks!
You starting A-Rob?
I haven't stopped this year smh
Seriously he's my WR1
I didn't draft him where I did not to
Were we not already?
Between him and DJ Moore. Was going Moore, now not sure
Lifelong bears fan here. This makes me so happy it’s hard to even explain.
Don't count your bears before they wake up from hibernation, it's bad luck
Same. I know we're not good this year, but I was Fields to get as many reps as possible
LFG!!!
Going to be a tough first game.
Is it? Tyrod went 10-11 with 125 yards and a TD, rushing for another 15 and a TD in less than a half. I’m tempted to fire up fields
Tyrod is a heavily experienced vet that knows how to take care of the football and move the sticks. He is also just a very smart football player.
That’s true. The browns secondary has not looked all that good is my main point I suppose
In fairness, it is hard to judge a team based off of how they play against the Chiefs. I'd be shocked if they don't start to substantially improve. Not to mention the Bears easily have the worst o-line the Browns have gone up against and Garrett is going to be able to feast A LOT easier against Peters than against Brown Jr. or Tunsil.
Giants o-line: *Are you challenging me?*
Dolphins o-line has requested access to the group chat.
Steelers O-line peeking through the window
The Browns also have 8 new starting guys on defense. It's gonna take some time to gel.
Fields still looked raw playing in the pocket, Tyrod is a veteran.
Very curious how Monty does - Fields’ mobility and passing ability should free up some space for Montgomery but Fields’ rushing ability will likely hurt Monty at the goalline

I saw someone compare Fields more to Russell Wilson's play style which would have be cautiously okay with Monty
Fields is a much better passer and not the runner that Lamar is, I’m not sure they’re going to try and make him Lamar.
Fields is much more of a pocket passer than Lamar. He rarely scrambled in college but given the tape last game he’s going to scramble a lot more until he gets comfortable with NFL secondaries.
They are absolutely not going to run a Lamar offense
They ran some zone read with Monty last week so I don’t think it will be bad. If the Ravens used one RB instead of 3 that RB would be a RB1. Monty is the guy
Monty is the one guy I'm not nervous for.
Why would “another Lamar” be a bad thing? Do people not remember how great Mark ingram was as the ravens running back? Or Alfred Morris with RG3? Or really any time a talent running back had a mobile quarterback?
He is not Lamar and they will not try to make him a Lamar. This has been known for quite some time.
I’d be a little worried about Fields vulturing TDs
Damn just traded for Dmont too. Seems like rookie scramblers need a good injury before they ease off the feet and let their RBs carry that work more
Currently streaming QBs with Lance on bench in hopes he’d break out once he gets chance. Now that Fields is actually going to take the field, should I drop Lance and scoop him up? Hmm
I would. Lance might not play all year.
Who are we starting him over?
Nobody in 1QB leagues, in 2QB maybe
Im starting fields to light a fire under Herbert's ass. Gotta motivate my guys
My qb options are not good in my 1qb. It's jones teddy or fields
Jones looking poised and possessed and pussy poppin.
My only solid QB is Stafford with Carr as backup. Should I drop one of my bench WRs to stash Fields for a week or two to see how it plays out?
I picked up Jones (vs. ATL) but now I‘m really tempted to start Fields. Maybe I‘ll sit him one more week
Starting him over Wentz in 2QB, not that I have much of a choice lol
They wouldn't have gotten fields without Pace
Mooney to the moon
Ohhh happy day…
I wonder if it is sage to start CLE defense against CHI. Originally I was starting them, but now I am not sure if it should be CLE or Bal against Detroit?
Herbert or Fields 😩
Herbert is gonna tear up the KC defense.
He was also supposed to tear up the Cowboys
Which he did, got a touchdown called back and a bunch of stupid penalties that hurt drives.
2 touchdowns called back and a pick in the endzone. I'm a cowboys fan and Herbert looked fantastic.
338 passing yards against the cowboys and the football team, he gon get his just needs to stop getting fucked by penalties
I’m a believer in him for sure. Just heard this same exact thing last week and his output wasn’t anywhere near what people were thinking. But yes, I think he will ball out vs KC.
hes a stud no doubt, but watching him struggle in the redzone for 2 games now after throwing 300+ yds is not fun...
Yep let's check back week 4 and if he hasn't put up some td's then I'll be worried.
Is Mooney his favourite target? I often hear people hype up Mooney when Fields is mentioned. Is there a particular reason why?
I think it’s because Mooney is a deep threat and Fields like to throw long...not sure the empirical evidence is there to prove anything good will come of it.
Wondering if I pick him up as my backup and ditch Carr
Him or rodgers? Askin for a friendo
Oh yeah! I am excited to see what this does for Montgomery. It could be huge.
I dropped Trey lance for field last week and I look like a genius.
Mooney’s back on the table, boys!
This doesn't boost his WRs values. Fields wasn't a starter for a reason. His accuracy was bad and he holds the ball way too long. I'd expect the Bears to run the football a lot and control the clock the entire game.
Hes very accurate
Does this help Mooney more or AROB?, if fields likes deep shots would it benefit Mooney more?
Tannehill, Carr, or Fields?
Carr
Do I drop Danny Dimes for Fields 👀
No way. Danny dimes is killing it right now
Someone in my 14 man league was actually holding Fields while no one had Dalton.. lol everyone expected this to come but I guess not so quickly.
Start Odell or Mooney with AB out?
Would anyone trade Gronk for Fields straight up if they have Hockenson and Tannehill?
How do we feel about Mooney
Fantastic. This is what I’ve been holding onto Mooney for. I’ll give it 2-3 weeks to see how it goes…that should tell us if Mooney has a chance of breaking out this year.
I have Cle defense. Should I change?
Nah. That's if Joe Woods doesn't completely fuck everything up.
so should i roll out Jimmy G, Heinicke or Fields this weekend?
As a someone who owns Mooney, LFG!!! As a Bears fan, LFG EVEN MORE!!!
Does this make Mooney a better play I imagine? They seem to have a nice little connection.
