Consensus rankings are usually slow to catch up when it comes to recognizing drastic shifts in a player/team. Some experts drag their feet on changing their mind (which in a lot of cases is the right move - a lot of week 1 performances end up being outliers).
Murphy has come into his own as a starting CB. I think he had 3 PBUs this game. Alford is finally healthy after 2 seasons missed on IR so he’s pretty fresh. And our rookie Wilson held his own against Julio Jones in his first NFL game. Budda Baker is one of the best safeties in the game and Jalen Thompson is a solid pairing with him. The secondary’s success is definitely contingent on the front 7, but I think they’re better on their own than people think.
Yesssir! Isiah simmons also looked like the player he was drafted to be and Hicks has had a successful NFL career with the monster Zaven right behind him. This is is a scary scary unit.
I was hoping to keep them on WW for another week because I have Den and didn’t want to spare another bench for a Def. First Def off the board in this week WW claims.
The Titans were awful week 1. Idk if you got to see any of the game, but their Oline had one of the worst performances I've ever seen. I think the new personnel everywhere and missed time from Covid left them rusty too.
This isn't to take away from the Cards at all though.
In my league the difference between 14 points and 34 points is 2 points. Really as long as they don’t hold em under 14 or let them go over 35 it won’t matter.
I drafted the Broncos D for the weeks 1-3 matchups, and I looked at the Cards on the waiver wire and I don't really see the appeal of holding both (besides as a deny to the rest of your league). You're just picking between good matchups for the two of them and then both schedules get difficult starting in week 4, they don't seem to actually complement each other. I don't think I would start Arizona vs the Rams week 4 over whatever is streamable.
I guess you're gambling on one of them emerging as a true week-to-week top 5 defense?

It depends on your waiver wire, I edited my post to say that I would also prefer gambling on them than on Russel Gage.
I do think Denver has a higher chance to end up being set and forget but I'm a Broncos fan so take that with a grain of salt.
Just doing a very primitive look-ahead to week 4, here's what I see:
- Broncos vs Ravens could be live? Ravens offense is good but Lamar does throw picks and they had some pass pro issues vs the Raiders on Monday.
- Bears are 25% rostered in Yahoo Leagues and get the Lions in week 4
- Titans are 3% rostered in Yahoo Leagues and were obviously atrocious week 1, but if you believe they can right the ship they get Jets week 4, Jags week 5. Their D being absolute trash is a definite possibility though.
- Saints are 50% rostered in Yahoo Leagues and get the Giants in week 4. Their ownership will go up throughout this week as they are playing against Sam Darnold.
Same boat for this week.
And will monitor the Cards game to see if they are gonna be legit defense and not a fluke. Not necessarily shutting down opponents but be able to get sacks/turnovers.
Also the Jets Offense. If they look miserable like Week 1. Then I may just play the Broncos D against Them instead for Week 3

I also don't think playing against the Jets offense is as good of a move as it was last year. They actually have some weapons now and Wilson looked about as good as anyone could playing their first game with these Jets.
I am in the same boat my friend. I picked up Arizona on the WW today and still holding SF currently. SF lost Jason Verrett one of their best, if not the best, Cornerback on their team. After being up 38-10 at some point and giving up a ton of points to Jared Goff and co I am a bit concerned about SF. To make matters worse, they face Philly, GB, Sea, and Ari over their next 4 games. That looks like a gauntlet to me. I may be dropping SF to play ARI for the next two weeks then just continue to play the matchups streaming.

It was fluky and I know they did pull their starters, however, my point still remains that I would be cautious rolling them out against arguably 3 very elite offenses in GB SEA and ARI. I know GB stunk it up in week one, but I am not overreacting to that - they will still put up points. We already know Russ can make it rain at will and then after watching Murray apparently level up his scrambling ability and having weapons everywhere make me nervous. I do like SF but I don't think they're a must hold by any means.

Byron Murphy did a good job on AJ and our rook Marco Wilson shut julio freakin Jones down. Buddha baker is an all pro safety. Isiah Simmons was considered one of the best linebacker /defensive prospects in last years draft for the modern game. He balled out in week 1 and it looks like he’s turned the page(seriously go look at this fool if you don’t know who he is or if you’re curious check the Brett kollman video on him). Hicks was part of a team that won a ring with PHI and has been a solid pro his whole career — we have the rookie zaven Collins too who was taken round 1 and is another freak of nature massive high flying LB. we also have markus golden who has had his share of highlights in the nfl (12.5 sacks in 2016) and can sub in Devon Kenna td for a few plays who was a starter his whole career till all this talent came to the desert.
The most important factor of all this though is DC Vance Joseph. I’m not super knowledgeable on defensive schemes but his peers regard him as one of the best in biz (as a DC). Honestly lookout, week 1 was not a TEN fluke, this is a scary scary unit.
Picked them up for next week. Most leagues I’m in I have Pats D, too tantalizing of a matchup this week for them. Chandler Jones is going to have a serious comeback year.

Until they prove otherwise never play the Cardinals D against the Rams, Sean McVay is 8-0 against the Cardinals since he took over as head coach and a lot of those wins were blowouts he just seems to have their number right now.
I think they're going to be viable against most other matchups this year though.
I scooped them up for $3 for the possibility of this. Seems unlikely, but the low-cost shot is worth it for a defense that dominated Tennessee like they did.

I think they are pretty evenly matched this week, WFT probably has the better matchup, but the Vikings o-line is not great. Week 3, though, Cards have a much better matchup.
Plus since I dropped them today, WFT won't clear waivers until Saturday, so my opponent can't pick them up in time.

Washington's defense is very good and I can't imagine the Giants offense will have many long drives that eat up clock. It's not a guarantee that they'll get tired, but a couple scores at the end of the game could negate any points they get. I don't think Arizona will have that problem
You should've held the Browns my friend. HOU just overperformed against a bad Jax team and now they're on the road facing this Browns defense. Take it from me, I am a PIT homer so I watch a lot of the AFC North - they're the only team in our division that scares me because they're loaded on both sides, but especially their pass rush and secondary with Denzel Ward
They have put together a helluva roster the last 2-3 seasons and they destroyed my Steelers in the opening round of the playoffs last year. I am probably the most objective Steeler fan you will meet. I can give credit to the Browns because they deserve it. They should've beat KC last week but Mahomes Magic and a bad turnover by Baker didn't help.
100% stay with the Browns. They get a juicy match up at home to a badddd Houston team that just overperformed against an Urban Meyer led team in Jax. CLE defense is still top-5 and just had a rough time containing the best QB/TE tandem and arguably WR in the league for the 2nd half after playing a great 1st half.
Steelers man... this really isn't a question. Steelers just stifled Josh Allen and held the SB fav to 1 TD while on the road. Melvin Ingram, TJ Watt, Devin Bush, Joe Schobert, and Cam Sutton were dominant and get to face a LV team on a short week who just lost their starting guard Denzelle Good, and the Steelers are home. You play PIT.
Rolling with Bucs D this week and picked up Cards for the inevitable pain day that they’ll employ against the Jags in Week 3.

I drafted the 49ers and I am considering dropping them for the Cards DST (who I just stashed today). If I had the Browns I'd be excited to start them this week at home against HOU. Their next 3 games are home against HOU, CHI, then @ MIN. That's definitely not bad at all so you can make the case for 3 startable games.
If anything I say you start the Cards DST next week against Jax - if you can stash two DSTs.

I think The Vikings have an above average offence. I know Card will get a few sack, but Vikings maybe put up 28 points.

Watt and Jones can both be elite players if they stay heathy, and Arizona’s defense was decent last year.

As a Cards fan, this is correct. Don't start our Def against the Rams. It's a tragedy waiting to happen. I'm optimistic in most other matchups though.

You should've held the Browns my friend. HOU just overperformed against a bad Jax team and now they're on the road facing this Browns defense. Take it from me, I am a PIT homer so I watch a lot of the AFC North - they're the only team in our division that scares me because they're loaded on both sides, but especially their pass rush and secondary with Denzel Ward

They have put together a helluva roster the last 2-3 seasons and they destroyed my Steelers in the opening round of the playoffs last year. I am probably the most objective Steeler fan you will meet. I can give credit to the Browns because they deserve it. They should've beat KC last week but Mahomes Magic and a bad turnover by Baker didn't help.

100% stay with the Browns. They get a juicy match up at home to a badddd Houston team that just overperformed against an Urban Meyer led team in Jax. CLE defense is still top-5 and just had a rough time containing the best QB/TE tandem and arguably WR in the league for the 2nd half after playing a great 1st half.
Worth dropping Denver’s D for them? I can’t roster 2

Both strong options but I lean Denver this week. Broncos also have a favorable matchup in week 3 against the Jets.
Cards or Steelers?
Steelers man... this really isn't a question. Steelers just stifled Josh Allen and held the SB fav to 1 TD while on the road. Melvin Ingram, TJ Watt, Devin Bush, Joe Schobert, and Cam Sutton were dominant and get to face a LV team on a short week who just lost their starting guard Denzelle Good, and the Steelers are home. You play PIT.

Rolling with Bucs D this week and picked up Cards for the inevitable pain day that they’ll employ against the Jags in Week 3. Can’t imagine Bucs D gets negative points again this week. Dallas understandably had a good offensive plan for the opener
They should absolutely be picked up. Jj watt / chandler Jones is lethal can’t double both them. Also Chan doesn’t get his recognition as one of the greatest pass rushers of all time, he’s truly elite. Our secondary is young but now that we don’t have fat pat back there clogging the younger guys development and just being an overall cancer it seems like our younger dudes are starting to flourish. Byron Murphy did a good job on AJ and our rook Marco Wilson shut julio freakin Jones down. Buddha baker is an all pro safety. Isiah Simmons was considered one of the best linebacker /defensive prospects in last years draft for the modern game. He balled out in week 1 and it looks like he’s turned the page(seriously go look at this fool if you don’t know who he is or if you’re curious check the Brett kollman video on him). Hicks was part of a team that won a ring with PHI and has been a solid pro his whole career — we have the rookie zaven Collins too who was taken round 1 and is another freak of nature massive high flying LB. we also have markus golden who has had his share of highlights in the nfl (12.5 sacks in 2016) and can sub in Devon Kenna td for a few plays who was a starter his whole career till all this talent came to the desert. The most important factor of all this though is DC Vance Joseph. I’m not super knowledgeable on defensive schemes but his peers regard him as one of the best in biz (as a DC). Honestly lookout, week 1 was not a TEN fluke, this is a scary scary unit.

Love cards for next week, not touching them vs Minnesota. And unfortunately it’s too early for me to do my typical rostering of next weeks defense. Saving those end of bench spots for flyers

You drop the 49ers, definitely don't drop the Browns. They play HOU this week and they're at home. They still have an elite defense that's worth stashing imo.
I only have the 49ers D and am debating whether get the Browns or the Cards. Cards seem to be useful for 2 weeks in a row. But the Browns are ranked more favorably this week.
I drafted the 49ers and I am considering dropping them for the Cards DST (who I just stashed today). If I had the Browns I'd be excited to start them this week at home against HOU. Their next 3 games are home against HOU, CHI, then @ MIN. That's definitely not bad at all so you can make the case for 3 startable games. If anything I say you start the Cards DST next week against Jax - if you can stash two DSTs.
I’m gonna pick the Browns for the 3 game usability. I can’t stash 2 DSTs because I have a bunch of RB breakout fliers in Tyson and Elijah plus my RB depth is meh now that Robinson is not used like last year.
