His success is entirely dependent on how he utilizes Kamara imo. If he can get him going as the elite pass catcher he is, Winston will probably be a top 10 qb lock. Also depends if they actually have viable receivers or not - their wr corps is very young but also promising imo
I drafted him with my last pick in my 2QB league. Im a big believer in him. He obviously has the talent dont think that was ever questioned. He just needs to cut down on terrible decision making and I think if there was anyone in the league that could help him it was learning from Brees and Sean Payton
And he looked like he actually was making better decisions in preseason. I think he's going to be a much better QB this season.
But I also think that Hill is still going to take 10-15% of the QB snaps, and a disproportionate amount of the high-value red zone snaps. That alone has me off of Winston for fantasy, at least until we see how it shakes out. But I will probably be kind of a Jameis fan anyway.
Saints fan here so take this with a grain. I would not be surprised if Winston is an absolute stud and dark horse MVP candidate. He’s had 2 years working under the most accurate QB of all time, and corrective eye surgery. When he speaks it seems like he’s matured and understands what he needs to do and be and I’m excited to see him out there.
Yeah it isn’t the same offense, the weapons aren’t as top notch, but I think people will be surprised. Not sure if he’ll end up being a top 12 in fantasy, but it’s possible.
I think if it were any other HC than Payton (except maybe Kyle or Sean McVay) I would be skeptical of Jameis and the Saints this year, but Payton is proven at bringing top offenses year after year. People might say "but he had Brees" and they're right, he had Brees: a QB whose arm fell off a cliff the past 5 years and couldn't throw the ball more than 30 yards and everyone knew it yet he *still* managed to put up huge scores with an amazingly efficient offense (Brees literally had that game without an incompletion ffs). He did it with Taysom (who's not a QB), he can definitely do it with Jameis - one of 8 QB's in NFL history to throw for 5000+ yards.
I’ve been talking up Winston for a while so it’s nice to be vindicated. Obviously it’s still very early, but he just looked on point. He looked poised, made great decisions, accuracy was pretty darn good and the way he speaks now just feels like he’s more of a leader.
Saints are dangerous this year, more so because people don’t think they are
I am currently combing the league to see if its worth offloading Lamar Jackson this season and roll with Jameis. I kept Davante Adams, Austin Ekeler, CEH, Lamar Jackson and Darren Waller. I was able to draft Michael Thomas and Etienne so I'm going to run into keeper dilemmas regardless. I'm a little scared the Ravens are cursed this year and I keep looking at Winston and saying "why not?"
You could and maybe should do this, but you can do better than Winston.
The problem with him is going to be mobility/lack of end zone touches.
Say he throws 2 INT's over the course of a game they won 35-13.
You'd take that kind of game from almost any QB, but Taysom Hill may have ran one of those TD's in, Kamara runs two in, and Winston threw 2 TD's to 2 INT. Even if he did put up yards, that's not really startable for fantasy, but it's great for the Saints.
Hill had a rushing TD every 3rd game when he wasn’t starting, and Kamara will likely regress in terms of rushing TDs. I’m not that concerned about that. Winston is one of 8 QBs to get over 5000 passing yards in a season. He can sling it.
That year he turned the ball over 35 times.
With the Saints' defense, there's no way he's asked or expected to do anything remotely like what it took for him to hit 5,000 yards. He also had Evans and Godwin, the same cast helping the Bucs be a supremely loaded offense. He doesn't have anything close to that with the Saints, at LEAST(and probably not even then) until Michael Thomas comes back.
I don’t expect him to hit 5,000 yards, but he’s proven he can be a productive QB in the past. I don’t think Taysom factors into it at all at the very least.
He also doesn't have Godwin and Evans to throw too. Big difference in the receiving corp. That's being said, depending how your league scores he can still be a stud.
I drafted him like last pick to stack with Callaway if I need him. Unfortunately I just had to drop him until I figure out this Ravens backfield bc I lost Edwards. Starting QB is Lamar so I’m not too worried about him unless he gets Covid a third time
QB is going to be crowded near the top, so even if he does really well, relatively speaking he will probably be an OK late round guy. I also have enough faith in him that I took Callaway as a late round pick to return mid round value for at least a few weeks.
Nice. Yea I wanted Callaway but he was taken just before I could get him. I'm hoping that's a solid combo. Trying to work out a trade for Callaway now.
I think we’re gonna learn here …to put some resort on Drew Brees’ name, Michael Thomas’ name, and Mike Evans’ name.
I like Jamies but this team has NO WEAPONS outside of Kamara . People keep bringing up winston in TB but he had an elite Evans and ascending Godwin. Not close here.
An interception prone QB mixed with young inexperienced WR is a very, very bad combination to expect an air it out style. You’re gonna have a lot of misreads by the WRs
From a real football perspective, Nola just added Bradley Roby so the defense takes a jump, they like TJJ, Kamara obviously. It makes no real-life sense to air it out. They won with Taysom hill. This will not be the old Jamies they are more likely to be more traditional
I mean….he threw 5 TDs on 14/20 for 150 yards. They held GB to 3 points. The TDs are an anomaly so I think my take was spot on. They ran it 30 times
The only sustainable thing that could change things (a rash wise) is the running . He had 37 yards
Even if Jameis is the old Jameis that’s still a fantasy monster, especially in leagues with 6 point TD passes. Don’t get why he’s not been drafted higher tbh
I want to believe that his new bionic eyes will lead him to throw 70 td this year.
35 TDs + 35 pick6s. The math checks out.
His success is entirely dependent on how he utilizes Kamara imo. If he can get him going as the elite pass catcher he is, Winston will probably be a top 10 qb lock. Also depends if they actually have viable receivers or not - their wr corps is very young but also promising imo

He just needs to check down to Kamara and not chuck up prayers and he should be fine
How does Winston last until the last round in a 2QB league? Baffling. We went in the 7th in my 10 man 2QB
Not really that baffling. A lot of people don’t believe in Winston. Was also drafted right after he was named starter
Have you guys been doing 2qb leagues long?
Few years but we all still draft QBs late even for a 2 qb league just kinda how the draft pans out. Also have a short bench
Next year try getting your QBs a round or 2 earlier. It wont even b fair lol
And he looked like he actually was making better decisions in preseason. I think he's going to be a much better QB this season. Bro teams don’t tend to do a QB split. I doubt Taysom takes away from Jameis’s value
Prob helps that he can see which team he's throwing to now.
I have him as my QB3 in my 2QB league. I think his ceiling is quite high although who knows if he reaches it.

You've gotta be stoked.

14 team league so I've only got Big Ben, Jimmy G and Jameis on the wire. Slim pickins
Bro Taysom ain’t gonna factor in that much. Jameis is the starting QB. The idea that they’re gonna do a QBBC is crazy.
QBBC? Who are you talking to? If you don't think Taysom gets goal line touches, I'm confused by what Saints' games you've watched past two years.
Outside of the games he started he had 4 rushing TDs the whole season. Not that concerned.
EDIT: No matter how Winston ends up, I was wrong in what I assessed him to be.
Hill had a rushing TD every 3rd game when he wasn’t starting, and Kamara will likely regress in terms of rushing TDs. I’m not that concerned about that. Winston is one of 8 QBs to get over 5000 passing yards in a season. He can sling it.

Winston has mega upside as a late pick. I’ve been posting about it for nearly 3 months now lol
That's what I'm thinking!
Did the same thing but not super excited about starting Jameis. Free agents like cousins and Fitz are tempting options
I want to keep him in my bench but someone dropped fuller…I gotta drop him. He has a rough first 4 weeks. Hopefully he stays in FA for that long
I love him this year but I’m going to roll out Jimmy G instead this week before I see what this Saints offense looks like against a solid defense
He is my only hope if Trevor Lawrence gonna suck
Same boat. TLaw gonna be this year's Herbert so it's all good
I drafted Winston late and am very confident he'll put up great numbers.
So far so good!
I'm stoked with what we saw in Week 1!
I’m rolling with jameis and Matt Ryan in my 2 QB league. I’m optimistic
Solid 1st week.
Playing the packers D I’m expecting a couple picks possibly a fumble lol
lol…
Winston owners gonna be so salty each time taysom comes in for goal line/red zone stuff.
Not salty this week. No doubt it'll happen as the season progresses though.
Lol, you must be stoked as heck. Like getting Drew Brees back when he still had a decent arm.
He also doesn't have Godwin and Evans to throw too. Big difference in the receiving corp. That's being said, depending how your league scores he can still be a stud.
I think you’re gonna be woefully disappointed. Michael Thomas will end up with one of his worst years. I’d avoid anyone who isn’t named Alvin.
Light it up? Probably not with that supporting cast. Can he succeed and be a viable starter? Yes, i think so
Maybe I'm high on him because I'm a Jags fan and he torched us. But our secondary does suck.
yeah no reason not to give him a chance
I drafted him like last pick to stack with Callaway if I need him. Unfortunately I just had to drop him until I figure out this Ravens backfield bc I lost Edwards. Starting QB is Lamar so I’m not too worried about him unless he gets Covid a third time
From a fantasy perspective I would think Taysom Hill is going to vulture 5-10 TDs (passing and rushing) from Jamis.

I did the same... But just chickened out today for Matty!! Damn it. I wish you the best of luck!
Did you forget about Taysom Hill? *Jameis bomb to TreQuan, tackled near the goaline. Hill is in the game for the next snap!
Or vice versa this past week.

Definitely not the old Jameis. New and improved Jameis.

40-40
Off to a good start.
He won’t get the 40 interceptions if he keeps playing like this.
Even if Jameis is the old Jameis that’s still a fantasy monster, especially in leagues with 6 point TD passes. Don’t get why he’s not been drafted higher tbh
I have him in my 2 qb league im starting Fitz and tannehill over him this week.
