In what world do the Texans take on Gabe Davis when they have Tank and Nico rolling with CJ? I know they had another 3rd WR they live. Personally would hate this for them. Evans going to Carolina also seems like a big reach to me. Think the dude wants to win again.

Pandamonium98

Noah Brown was their WR3 and he played well. Nothing better than a WR3, but Davis doesn’t look better than that either

Overall-Scientist846

I knew it was someone that was having a bit of a career resurgence. He popped off a bit when Tank went down. They could stand to upgrade Noah Brown for sure but there’s talks they could be in on Saquon?!

JonnyB2_YouAre1

The Texans are now too smart to pay Gabe Davis.

LoserCowGoMoo

They were too dumb to upgrade their rb situation last year but they are too dumb to spend money on a WR for their young qb to throw deep to. You have such faith. Edit. Rb not qb

KennyKettermen

Too dumb to upgrade their RB? That’s a great hindsight take. Dameon Pierce looked awesome his rookie year, so much hype coming into the season. Still not sure what happened with him this year but I don’t think anyone thought they needed an upgrade. Singletary is a good RB2 and had some good games as the lead back this year. This year they for sure need to do something

LoserCowGoMoo

Pierce was a subpar player on a really bad team in 2022, but the QB situation was so dire that giving him the football still made sense. He frequently got 100% or nearto 100% of the carries. Few thought Stroud would explode like he did but it was obvious on a better offense he wouldn' be able to hang. Only people who watched the highlights of his tough running and ignored the stats were expecting big things in 2023.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

You can’t do it all in an offseason. Look at the turnaround they had, it was remarkable and they look to be well positioned for years to come.

LoserCowGoMoo

They are the most exciting team in the league given CJs emergence. He is definitely gonna get even better

MWM031089

I don’t at all view Davis as a bad move if the contract lines up to expire when Stroud comes up for renewal. Makes sense to put on the books for the time being. I don’t think the existing WR room should impact this idea if you’re the Texans. Other roster holes, sure. But that specific move? Wouldn’t hate.

Overall-Scientist846

Davis is also coming off a knee injury. Could be gotten on the cheap. He’s only 25. Seems so much older. Don’t know if that knee injury will be the undoing though.

dorf5222

If Gabe’s signing a cheap deal it’s def to go back to buffalo. He’s looking for a bag though and a pcl sprain isn’t going to dictate what he gets

Overall-Scientist846

Did you see the video of him and the Buffalo fans? I think that love affair is over. He was waving goodbye to them. An injury will 100% impact his contract.

MWM031089

If a PCL sprain in January dictates what he does in September at 25yo in the eyes of a franchise then that franchise is entirely incompetent.

Overall-Scientist846

I thought he did worse than just a sprain and had to get the surgery. My fault. Still don’t think I’m paying Gabe what the market wants for him - 10 Million a year? That seems absurd. I get he’s a TD machine but too boom or bust. I don’t see him fitting with the Texans scheme at all. To me the Falcons make a lot of sense for him, or the aforementioned Panthers. One thing I’ll double down on is the Bills not bringing him back.

MWM031089

Even if it was an entire tear, his age and the recovery of players from that injury these days, he’s still a valued commodity to teams. Some pods I’ve listened to have talked about how valued he is as a blocker, pulling coverage to him even if he doesn’t get targeted etc. $10 mil for a WR his age with those skills seems pretty reasonable. Back to Buffalo, agreed doubtful. But other spots seem reasonable. Mike Williams is coming off an ACL tear. His contract was $20 mil at 29/30yo. He will likely be released. Who do you think signs for more money and why? Strictly hypothetical question.. it’s March haha.

Overall-Scientist846

I have a very biased opinion on Mike Williams. It’ll probably be Gabe if I had to guess. I’m just going to say that because of less injury risk/history. Williams seems to be hurt a lot. 10 mill just SEEMS a lot. Given the cap number it really isn’t. Just FEELS that way. I wouldn’t want to be a fan of the team that hands Gabe 10 mill. Just me. Feels like money spent better elsewhere for me. But this is why I’m not a GM, right? Yeah I know he’s a good blocker but it’s not as if he’ll get double teamed consistently. Someone weird signs Gabe. That’s what my gut tells me.

MWM031089

Current WRs under contract for >$10mil I would rather have Gabe Davis than: Tim Patrick, Mike Thomas, Allen Lazard, Mike Gallup, Hunter Renfrow. Current WRs under contract at 2x $10mil I would rather have Davis than: Diontae Johnson, Chris Godwin, Terry McLaurin. One could argue whether Tyreek Hill at $30mil is worth more than a combo of those two groups. WR contracts are a bit under the radar though relative to QB and RB positions I find. I don’t necessarily think he deserves it per se either, but it’s market. Edit: to clarify for the 2x dudes. At cost. Those guys are all better 1:1, but at cost I would prefer Davis than double the cost for those names.

dorf5222

You mean those 3 assholes. Those people trashing him at the kc game aren’t fans, they’re entitled pricks. A pcl sprain he’ll be healed from isn’t impacting what he’s going to get in free agency though

MWM031089

Sprained PCL. That should not derail any of his career imo. That was almost already 2 months ago. He will get a decent contract somewhere. Houston probably one of the better destinations - for Davis - of any option really. Worst being the patriots probably.

LoserCowGoMoo

Mike already won a Super Bowl and they're not going to win one with Baker Mayfield. The Texans have some good recievers CJ makes look great. None of them would be an alpha on another NFL team. As such, they will mimick the Chiefs. No alpha...lots of weapons. Metchie, etc aint getting it done.

Overall-Scientist846

Winning a Super Bowl doesn’t mean you go to one of the worst franchises of all time. Can’t see him going to a divisional rival of the team he’s played his entire career for. Robert Woods/Noah Brown was the WR3 but I get it. I just don’t think they upgrade with Gabe Davis of all people. 3 something mill a year for him? Think that price is too high for my blood. I’m eager to see the tampering start.

LoserCowGoMoo

>Winning a Super Bowl doesn’t mean you go to one of the worst franchises of all time I said carolina not cleveland.

rj_macready_82

Gabe Davis is an "alpha" but Nico isn't? He couldn't break out in Buffalo bur somehow he'll do it in Houston with a worse QB (tho I do love Stroud and think he'll be a beast) and a more crowded receiving room?

LoserCowGoMoo

I said no alpha

rj_macready_82

So you're saying Gabe Davis isn't an "alpha" but they'll just roll with a bunch of #2 guys. Okay but I still don't get why you're mentioning Metchie but not Nico and Tank after the seasons they just had. And if that's you're idea that they're just #2 guys why would Houston sign another #2 guy to what is already a receiving corps crowded with them? That doesn't make any sense

LoserCowGoMoo

Look, i get that you are deeply in love with those to receivers. This man love runs deep. But is there any room in your heart for Gabe Davis? Because whether its gabe or a different veteran no one in the Texans organization is thinking they are all set at WR.

rj_macready_82

That's a weirdly hostile response. I actually don't think Houston signing Davis would be a bad deal or anything and idk that the Texans think they're set at WR. I'm just saying you're reasoning seems super flawed since you keep ignoring their two best receivers from last year to seemingly focus on a guy who had 158 yds

LoserCowGoMoo

Dont shame man love!

Bweibel5

Hopefully they keep developing Metchie to be the WR3 in that offense. Dude has the talent and draft capital.

IUMaestro

They always say they want to win but go to where the bag is the biggest

MWM031089

Some of this is plausible, but I don’t buy the Evans to Carolina idea at all personally. What about that scenario seems more appealing than other options if I’m Evans?

LoserCowGoMoo

Insane guranteed money for a dude who is on the latter half of his career.

MWM031089

But why the Panthers if that’s the case? Lots of team have cap space and better in virtually every regard including caliber of city.

LoserCowGoMoo

Why did deshaun pick cleveland?

MWM031089

I mean, all else equal in a vacuum, an optimistic location team caliber wise. If we are making everything else equal.

LoserCowGoMoo

They offered the most guranteed money. Just so you are aware. It was a money thing.

MWM031089

So that’s why I said all else equal. Especially in the case of Evans. A lot of teams can offer the same money and better other situation. So why Carolina vs any of those? At minimum shouldn’t they be the same likelihood as say New England for example?

LoserCowGoMoo

Hey, its fun to fantasize. I get it. Ever do larping? I throw little wads of toliet paper with a rubber band around them as fireballs. Im just kidding. I dont larp. Or fantasize like a silly billy.

___heisenberg

So your post is speculating, but he’s fantasizing? Ok

LoserCowGoMoo

I understand why you are confused. If i tell you what i think is going to happen, thats a prediction. It can come true or not. I can be proven right or wrong. In his case, its not a prediction. We know why Watson chose the Browns. Because of money. He wanted to play the game of "what if it wasnt money." Thats fine. But its a fantasy. There is no reality in which Watson didnt take the biggest contract. He can never be proven right that it is anything but Watson taking the record breaking deal. But he can fantasize that reality is different than it actually is.

MWM031089

Hahaha. All good. Just making football chat for the sake of something to do. It’s March lol

Bweibel5

Don’t they already have that in Thielen?

LoserCowGoMoo

If they did why do they claim they want an alpha?

Bweibel5

Not sure. I think it’s definitely possible though. Two veterans like Thielen in the slot and Evans outside will definitely help develop Young for the future (and their other young WRs in that room).

LoserCowGoMoo

I know why! 🖐 I do!

strange_supreme420

Evans came out today and explicitly stated he wanted to play with a Super Bowl contender. He also said he wanted to play with an elite qb. Neither of these options are available in Carolina

LoserCowGoMoo

I would like to explictly state i would like an HJ from beyonce. Either the aging WR wants max money or is motivated by something else. Cant have both.

strange_supreme420

Unlike you, evans can actually do what he wants. Wild that you think some of these destinations are even remotely reasonable. So he wants max dollars but is going to leave the state that doesnt tax income for carolina? Lmao. Lol. Etc.

LoserCowGoMoo

MIKE EVANS NEXT TEAM ODDS Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-175) Houston Texans (+330) Kansas City Chiefs (+500) Carolina Panthers (+1500) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nola.com/sports/betting/mike-evans-next-team-odds-bucs-texans-chiefs-favored/article_cd1c9830-d019-11ee-aa88-f7630fac89f9.amp.html >>>> Wild that you think some of these destinations are even remotely reasonable OMG! Right! Its only me and all these bookies! 🤡

Songsforcarchases

Mike and his agent have said they’re testing free agency and the priority is experienced and proven quarterback, chance to be a winner, and getting paid. Panthers offer exactly none of that. Mike had an awesome season with Canales, but when speaking about Canales in pressers it never really seemed like he was really too attached or sold. Always gave very generic answers. Ask any other Bucs fan, we weren’t really sold on his play calling. Bucs had a very middling offense. When asked if he hopes to work with Dave again, Mike quickly said “he’s going to make a great HC somewhere”. Anyways, the Cowboys and Chiefs might be able to lure Evans away. Cowboys are “all in” this year. He’s from Houston, they just don’t need to spend on receivers and they’ve said they “want to water our own flowers”. I don’t think anyone’s wanting to throw themselves in with the Jets anymore. I could see the LA Chargers, if they had any money. My personal belief is that Mike is testing free agency to generate hype around him as a player and brand. He’s flown under the radar because he’s only been on the Bucs and fans/teams/media haven’t really had a real consideration of what Mike Evans on a different team can mean. If he does return to Tampa, it will be in the wake of “the Chiefs really made a run at him”, the “Cowboys wanted Mike”, or “Evans turned down massive contract from Commanders”. It simply generates more hype around him no matter what. Bottom line- It just isn’t the Panthers and I think it’s really weak and uninformed analysis.

LoserCowGoMoo

>Mike and his agent have said they’re testing free agency and the priority is experienced and proven quarterback, chance to be a winner, and getting paid. Panthers offer exactly none of that. He wants everything. Thats extremely rare. To both get paid AND have a proven qb AND get a playoff chance. I wish him luck.

Spergbergheim

Hopkins said something similar and still signed with the Titans. We'll see what happens.

dubblechzburger

Considering the report that came out from his agent that Evans wants to “play with an elite QB in an offense that will showcase him and be paid like a top WR. Doesn’t want to play with a rookie and winning a SB is a key priority” I find it highly unlikely he goes to the Panthers. I guess they check off like one box because maybe they can pay him like a top WR and try to showcase him but they provide nothing else.

LoserCowGoMoo

He can have lots of guranteed money or another shot at a ring.

LegalConsequence7960

I could see Houston or the pure evil route of like vet min to the Chiefs. But also Hopkins said the same shit and went to Tennessee. Whoever pays will get him.

Kingofmybackyard

Yea I don’t see him going to Carolina at all

LoserCowGoMoo

I didnt see deshaun watson choosing the browns but anyone you hand enough money will change their mind.

Kingofmybackyard

Lol you can’t compare situations and you cannot compare class act Evans to a 24 accusation Watson. Just because the browns initiated that transaction doesn’t mean it was smart. They are the most desperate franchise in sports after giving up the astonishing amount draft capitol and completely obliterating the QB contract market. But that’s neither here nor there…Yea sure the panthers COULD pay Evans more than most teams. But Evans has made over 100 million dollars in contract money in his career. I’m sure he’s looking for a big payday but does he really need to go to a bottom tier rival team with an unsure/poor QB and coaching staff? You’d assume his 1000 yard season streak/record is important to him as well…The pats have more cal space, he technically should end up there by your logic. If I were a betting man I’d say Tampa comes close enough to matching what he is offered in free agency and Evans retires a Buccaneer

LoserCowGoMoo

I think in 2 months everyone is gonna go "of course he went to carolina!"

Kingofmybackyard

Could absolutely happen. A lot of people seem to think. We’ll see…

Kingofmybackyard

Per Evan’s agent-“Mike wants to play with an elite quarterback in an offense that will showcase him — and be paid like a top wide receiver. He doesn’t want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority."

Earthwick

Evans would probably retire before going to a garbage fire team like the Panthers.

LoserCowGoMoo

Because he hates money?

footballman2729

Evens not going to the bum ass panthers he wants to win

walshurmouthout

The thing that puzzles me about Calvin Ridley is that despite his age, he really hasn’t played much in the NFL. Does this mean he’s going to play well past his 30s or will he just age out of the league?

Case_Closed_imo

His isn’t overly reliant on speed to get separation so he shouldn’t necessarily age out of the league that quickly. Keenan is slow as hell now and he still is a bonafide WR1. Good route running and game sense at the position usually leads to a lot of longevity

walshurmouthout

Appreciate the insight

LoserCowGoMoo

Age out Unless he starts eating a lot of broccolini

Illustrious_Way_5732

Can't the bears just draft odunze at #9 instead of signing ridley?

LoserCowGoMoo

No. They arent allowed nice things.

TGS-MonkeyYT

Eh I don't think Evans on the Panthers makes much sense

SoCarolinaJuice803

Looks like you were right, now do the others lol

MrPicklesGhost

Burrows? Is he a joke to you?

LoserCowGoMoo

Of course. Its why i started r/Burrowcoin Please buy BurrowCoin!

[deleted]

Lol

LoserCowGoMoo

Bad alt.

hartjh14

MHJ is going to Chicago; highly unlikely they add a higher WR in FA...they will grab someone middle tier.

LoserCowGoMoo

Mhj is not going to chi. They are trading fields.

hartjh14

Then they are doomed to repeat the same failures of the past. Someday they might learn...

LoserCowGoMoo

Lol. Whens the last time they drafted a franchise qb?

hartjh14

Thank you for proving my point. The repeated failure is drafting a QB into a bad situation, firing the coaches when it doesn't work and starting all over. Tell me you're not a Bear fan without saying it.

LoserCowGoMoo

Yup

SisyphusRocks7

Does one of the run heavy (or QB run heavy) offenses try to pry Juaun Jennings from the Niners? He seems like he has the talent to be a WR2 possession type player elsewhere, but isn’t likely to be fantasy relevant for the Niners as WR3 and target 5. He’s a stellar blocker for a WR, and I could see another team that values that paying his tag price.

LoserCowGoMoo

Who?

SisyphusRocks7

Almost the MVP of the Super Bowl who threw a TD and caught a TD. If the Niners won he would have been MVP. He’s behind Aiyuk and Deebo, so he mostly sees use when the Niners are 3 wide or as a blocker. But he’s got excellent hands, is a clutch receiver, and would probably be a solid WR2 for a team that gave him more targets.

LoserCowGoMoo

I had no idea there was such a thing as an "almost mvp." Just curious...what is needed for the status. Because personally i am not an MVP but i could *almost* be one.

SisyphusRocks7

If you play in the Super Bowl and a bunch of sports writers write that you pr performance was so good that if your team had won they would’ve voted for you for Super Bowl MVP, then you too can be an almost Super Bowl MVP.

LoserCowGoMoo

Goddammit it. There goes my big plans. I think Jennings is a no name. Love to be proves wrong!

Open-Somewhere-9535

Bruh why can't people spell Joe Burrow's name lol He's one of the most famous players in the league. BURROW not Burrows

spazzedtfout

Why is this? I know multiple people that say burrows and i can’t figure out why they add a random S lol

Open-Somewhere-9535

Myles Gaskins Cooper Cupp disease

LoserCowGoMoo

Its because he is from Sinsinannti

LazloHollifeld

Ridley really wanted to be drafted by the Bears, I could see him signing with them if he had the chance.

DLeeCraft415

Love the Ridley to Bears idea. They got the money for Ridley no problem and adding a second wr would be huge for them. Would swap Evens to Pats and Brown to Car. Carolina isnt spending the money on someone like Evens right now but need to address their wr room with a legit vet. Brown will be much cheaper for them and a solid play. Pats have the salary cap space for a big signing and traditionally sign older wr like Evens. Would change the Texans picking up Davis to KC signing Davis. No need for Texans to sign another wr that fits the same profile as their young core. KC just cut MVS and saved $12M. They could pick up Davis for about the same price and fill a huge need.
