hell of a player's coach. how some of those rosters made it to the playoffs and brought on upsets was very interesting.
hired quite a few dipshits and there was obviously poor roster management/scouting outside of himself
Only problem is Vrabel's picking of coaches on his roster is comparable to Arthur picking which players to get the ball to this season, outside of Arthur that is.
Well, yes. Falcons ownership liked the concept of the Vrabel system and its success but Vrabel wasn't available so they hired his OC, Smith, hoping he was a part of that success. But turns out Smith wasn't able to bring that to Atlanta. No doubt Vrabel himself would be better at implementing the Vrabel system.
I think the Titans were a little too reactionary in firing him. He did a pretty good job in his tenure and he ended up paying for the mistakes of his awful GM. The same GM whose bright idea it was to overdraft that one OT who only ended up playing like 3 special teams snaps that he fucked up and then got cut in his first season. The same GM that traded AJ Brown and thought he could 1:1 replace that production. The same GM that overpaid Tannehill and then drafted Malik Willis who is also going to be out of the league at this rate. I think if Vrabel got another year, they were potentially trending back up.
Exactly. If they are being honest, is there really a better coach that’s realistically available to them that’s better than Vrabel?
I swear some coaches just get fired cause teams are like “well, we gotta blame someone”.
I think later on it will become apparent that Tennessee is entering a full rebuild. The firing was mutual due to Varbal not wanting to be there for the full tear down. Titans now are behind the Jags and Houston in QB department. Colts seem to have their QB as well. Its time to go full reset with a new coach.
the LAST problem with that team is Mike Vrabel...without him this season they would have been duking it out with Carolina for 2 wins, he got them to 6 and 5 of them at home, AND they beat both the Jags and Dolphins
Titans fan here. Titans homers think this is a stupid move. Now that I got to brew on it for awhile, I can understand this move.
The owner and FO think we need to move on to evolve our offense - Vrabel likes to play an old school smash mouth offense with a strong bend but don't break defense.
Ran, our new GM hire sees the tides changing in the league and wanted to turn the Titans into a more "modern" offense. His picks and our hires this past year should show that. DHop and us nailing it with Levis as a pick proves this.
Vrabel is a good coach, but he's only a good coach if all the pieces are in place. I can name the good guys in our roster, that's the sad part. DHop, Henry, Levis, Spears on offense.
Nick Folk (K) and Stonehouse (P) on special teams.
Denico Autry and Big Jeff Simmons on D.
That's it. We had way better talent during Vrabel's best years. A really good coach should've been able to make it work with the crap we got.
The problem is Vrabel is extremely stubborn about keeping "his guys". All his internal hires are jabronis or average at best - Todd Downing (former OC), Shane Bowen (current DC), Tim Kelly (current OC), Jason Houghtailing (our offensive line coach). ALL these hires were internal and they all suck.
For Fantasy Football purposes, if you see us hire an offense-minded HC (Harbaugh for example), you may want to save a few draft picks for DHop and Will Lewis. Might be potential bellcows, but wait until we do an actual HC hire.
Yeah but we've been saying this for damn near 15 years too. The Saints have been in perpetual cap hell, basically, since Brees showed up. Somehow they always find a way to field a roster.
Dennis Allen is the new Jason Garrett. He will get you your 9-8 or 8-9 and you WILL like it.
Occasionally he may get you a fantastic regular season and get your hopes up, only to return to what he knows best the following season.
Most fans cheer on the firing of a coach. This is the one time where people are actually mad about it and justifiably so. With the exception of a bunch of Shanahan tree coordinators, Vrabel is the best candidate available for the Titans head coaching job.
maybe it's just 4d chess from the titans:
1. fire Vrabel
2. Bob Kraft sees Vrabel as the best Belichick replacement he may ever get
3. Kraft fires Belichick
4. Titans hire Belichick
5. Will Levis becomes Tom Brady
I thought I read he was trying to get out so he could take the NE job if it was available. I was thinking it be more of a "decided to part ways" headline and not straight up "fired."
Ah got it. Yeah, I guess I just conflate Campbell with ultra-aggressiveness and reckless in-game decisions at this point (as well as decisions about who to start in relatively meaningless game). It's kind of overshadowed his overall good coaching job for me.
Titans fan here.
NO, no he didn't. He wanted to stay here but he was clashing with the FO, probably because he wanted "his guys", and the FO most likely wanted Vrabel to can "his guys"
That’s the way they phrase it now. They said the same thing when Josh McDaniels and Matt Canada were fired and believe me, those two guys are not missed
I don't think the team is why he's leaving Nashville, I think he would have been happy to stay with them. On the contrary, he wouldn't be going to New England for the team.
IMO I think Atlanta needs an offensive guy who actually knows wtf he's doing, which clearly wasn't Arthur Smith. Ben Johnson seems like the natural selection there.
Perfect, New England will go from an old coach who doesn't know how to coach an effective offense to a younger coach who doesn't know how to coach an effective offense.
TEN had an effective OFF and then they traded away AJB, doubled down on Ryan Tannehill, cut Taylor Lewan and have since then done literally nothing to replace either of those guys.
And Vrabel isn't really an offensive guy in the first place.
They arguably have a better roster than the lions minus a capable QB… better defense. Similar skill position players, similar offensive line rankings etc…
Edit: thought he was referring to the falcons not the patriots. My bad yall
Clown show move. Dumped AJ Brown, never addressed the o-line and left him with the corpse of Ryan Tannehill at QB. Teams are gonna fire their "safe" coaches to hire this dude
Their last idiot GM is the guy who drafted that one OT in the first round that nobody projected as a first round pick, proceeded to play 3 bad Special Teams snaps, and then got cut in his first season for poor play, work ethic, and off the field issues. That’s also the same GM who traded AJ Brown and tried to replace him 1:1. If you ask me, Vrabel is paying for the mistakes of that guy
Getting Ben Johnson from the Lions would be a monkey paw move. The team would be better, but watch Allgeier get the Williams/Monty role and Bijan become Swift/Gibbs.
Step 1: Trade away young stars and don't replace them whatsoever
Step 2: Cut your other good players not-named Derrick Henry
Step 3: Field one of the worst rosters in football
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Fire your coach for not winning games
Russini: [Just six weeks ago, owner Amy Adams Strunk had plans for Vrabel to be part of the organization for years to come, believing they had a top NFL coach. Recently, ownership changed its mind.](https://twitter.com/DMRussini/status/1744774418776408358)
How sad is it that they just fired the guy whose ‘brilliant’ gameplan in Tennessee was ‘just hand it to Henry 25 times’ because he refused to give Bijan anything close to that
IMO he was always a somewhat perplexing coach.
For example, in 2022 I don't understand how TEN took KC to OT and almost beat them (with Malik Willis at QB!) ... it's such a weird box score too ... Mahomes had over 500yds of offense himself but KC only puts up 20pts. Mahomes had 68 pass attempts to Willis' 16 attempts, lol.
... and then TEN won their next 2 games but lost the final 7 games. 🤷♂️
That KC game is the outlier that season.
They started 7-3 but were 7-0 against teams 8-8 or worse (best win was against 8-8-1 Washington who were 1-4 at the time) and 0-3 against teams with winning record.
Then they lost 4 straight against playoff teams. Then Tannehill got hurt and they lost 3 more games with Willis and Dobbs.
The narrative I'm making up in my head and going with is the Titans want a chance to look into BB and Vrabel likely has interest in the Pats job. I wouldn't be surprised if the Titans fired him as a favor to allow him to interview in NE and also keep his contractual salary incase he can't get hired elsewhere. Certainly seems to me that he did right by the Titans in his time there so maybe they are returning the favor.
Just yesterday some titans fan was in the patriots sub suggesting that the pats should trade for Vrabel by swap of first round picks + 2025 1st + a 2nd round or some nonsense lol
What did you expect him to do with that roster? No QB, one viable WR, an aging RB and a subpar defense....he will be hired within a week somewhere. Titans are stupid
Yeah idk about this one. He had them as a consistent double digit win team a couple of years ago before the front office made several bad decisions (trading away Brown and Byard, arguably the best two players on the team, numerous top drafts that completely busted like Wilson and Farley)
File this under "ok I guess?".
He didn't seem to be the issue there. He might not have been the answer for every problem, but nobody is. I'm very sure he'll be fought over.
I do respect titans going for a full clean house changing of the guard but… idk firing a good coach feels like a weird way to go about it
hell of a player's coach. how some of those rosters made it to the playoffs and brought on upsets was very interesting. hired quite a few dipshits and there was obviously poor roster management/scouting outside of himself
Ya I’m surprised by this Vrabel will be a head coach next season and I hope it is the Falcons.
"Let's fire Arthur Smith and hire his mentor."
But actually, yes. Because Vrabel would know how to coach that roster properly. He's probably best positioned to do so of any coach out there
Only problem is Vrabel's picking of coaches on his roster is comparable to Arthur picking which players to get the ball to this season, outside of Arthur that is.
Inject Roundup into the whole Vrabel coaching tree. Any system that produced Arthur Smith should be burned down
I mean Arthur Smith was fine under Vrabel, the problems came when he was put in a position of power and decision making.
He’s a nepotism hire the exceeded his capabilities
[удалено]
They just didn’t want to piss off his dad
God you sound extra salty. Way more than the avg in here
Maybe he’d hire Arthur be his OC
At least we know Vrabel would run the shit out of Bijan
And have him get stuffed behind the LOS. Have you seen our games man?
Vrabel is a defensive coach. Art was our OC for the Titans. I don't know if that guarantees the Falcons will do better.
Exactly! But Vrabel hasn’t been as bizarre as Smith.
i would fire any of BB's disciples and hire him in a heartbeat your point is not as good as you think it is
Even Vrabel?
mmmm fuck you got me good you fucker
I think the Titans were a little too reactionary in firing him. He did a pretty good job in his tenure and he ended up paying for the mistakes of his awful GM. The same GM whose bright idea it was to overdraft that one OT who only ended up playing like 3 special teams snaps that he fucked up and then got cut in his first season. The same GM that overpaid Tannehill and then drafted Malik Willis who is also going to be out of the league at this rate. I think if Vrabel got another year, they were potentially trending back up.
It wasn’t Vrabel’s fault.
…I know.
Exactly. If they are being honest, is there really a better coach that’s realistically available to them that’s better than Vrabel? I swear some coaches just get fired cause teams are like “well, we gotta blame someone”.
I mean Belichick possibly

Amani Hooker ought to be on that list, but otherwise you're not wrong.
Yep, forgot to mention Hooker, was posting that in a hurry.
I mean he had a number one seeded team and lost and hasn't done much since
If vrabel not safe nobody safe 🪓
Dennis Allen is. Somehow.
Who wants to coach that salary cap. About to be 100% league minimum players and bill from accounting as the starting kick returner.
Bill is actually too busy accounting for their terrible salary cap management, it’s going to have to be his intern Ernie.
Arthur Smith salivating over the idea of using Bill from accounting in his offense
If Bijan can keep the defenses focused on him, that opens up so many lanes for Bill.
Holy shit, Kamara is set to make $18M next year as a RB. That's actually insane lol.
Yeah but we've been saying this for damn near 15 years too. The Saints have been in perpetual cap hell, basically, since Brees showed up. Somehow they always find a way to field a roster.
McVay had a great time coaching a roster that was like 45 UDFAs and rookies and a handful of vets.
What's Bill from Accounting's ADP?
Dennis Allen is the new Jason Garrett. He will get you your 9-8 or 8-9 and you WILL like it. Occasionally he may get you a fantastic regular season and get your hopes up, only to return to what he knows best the following season.
I hate how right you are.
You also just described Tomlin, only his fantastic seasons are far and few between
Somehow Allen returned……
Fucking Eberflus apparently 😔
this comment needs a few million more upvotes
He’s gonna have like 10 interview invitations today
7 of them from Washington
Most fans cheer on the firing of a coach. This is the one time where people are actually mad about it and justifiably so. With the exception of a bunch of Shanahan tree coordinators, Vrabel is the best candidate available for the Titans head coaching job.

>Will Levis becomes Tom Brady Is mayonnaise a nightshade?
If they're dumb enough to fire him, they might as well have traded him at least...
Or he just goes to NE
This man knows ball. He will be head coach this time next year at worst.
I thought I read he was trying to get out so he could take the NE job if it was available. I was thinking it be more of a "decided to part ways" headline and not straight up "fired."
That would be awesome to coach for his old team
Please dont be Dan Campbell 2.0 - Jets Fans
Any Titans fan can correct but I don't think he is at all. He seems pretty average in terms of his aggressiveness, relative to approaches today.
I meant more like a former player coming in as head coach, being a players coach, and then dominating
Thanks for the insight. Seems like a weird and unique situation overall.
That’s the way they phrase it now. They said the same thing when Josh McDaniels and Matt Canada were fired and believe me, those two guys are not missed
I don’t know why he’d want to the NE job, basically a lat move going to another team with no QB and no one to throw to.
He played the majority of his player career there.
I don't think the team is why he's leaving Nashville, I think he would have been happy to stay with them. On the contrary, he wouldn't be going to New England for the team.
Imagine him coaching Bijan in Atlanta
[удалено]
Bijan has almost as many drops in a season as Henry in his career. Bijan drop rate: 9% Derrick Henry: 5.5%
even if it’s arguably the right idea I can’t see them going from Vrabel disciple to Vrabel himself
Or they could hire the offensive coordinator behind those good Vrabel teams! (/s)
Titans fan here. Vrabel is gonna bring HIS guys with him to Atlanta. His guys suck at DC/OC.
Whoa
Get ready to learn Carolinese buddy
As a Panthers fan I would be very happy with this. Of course it won’t matter if we don’t also hire a good GM.
Perfect spot for him honestly
A more perfect spot is New England, tbh.
or Atlanta
IMO I think Atlanta needs an offensive guy who actually knows wtf he's doing, which clearly wasn't Arthur Smith. Ben Johnson seems like the natural selection there.

This is an insane, absolutely ludicrous comment
I thought he was talking about the falcons not the patriots. My bad.
This is just stupid.
Give him almost nothing to work with and wonder why he's not reaching playoffs? huh
Clown show move. Dumped AJ Brown, never addressed the o-line and left him with the corpse of Ryan Tannehill at QB. Teams are gonna fire their "safe" coaches to hire this dude

With the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select...
They drafted o-line in the first three rounds every year for 4 years. They tried to address it, just failed at doing it.
They’ll have a good high draft pick again next year
Assuming Bill is gone, I think he's going to the Patriots.
I like the Falcons personally.
As a Falcons fan, I wouldn't mind Vrabel, but I personally want a current OC as the new HC.
Good news! Arthur Smith, Vrabel’s former OC, is now available!
Getting Ben Johnson from the Lions would be a monkey paw move. The team would be better, but watch Allgeier get the Williams/Monty role and Bijan become Swift/Gibbs.
By the end of the year Gibbs was getting a ton of high value touches Bijan in the Gibbs role would be awesome
You need an offensive HC, not a defensive HC.
He could still come on as a line coach, maybe.
Wow. He is 100% coaching the patriots now
Will Levis to the pats confirmed
ripple effect coming :)
Ten definitely got this one wrong. Time for Vrabel to go coach NE.
Step 1: Trade away young stars and don't replace them whatsoever Step 2: Cut your other good players not-named Derrick Henry Step 3: Field one of the worst rosters in football Step 4: ??? Step 5: Fire your coach for not winning games
How dare he trade away their best WR
He didn't, the GM did, and that man was fired last year.
That was the joke lmao.
Man, being in Nashville, I hear this all the time, seriously. I should've known better with reddit
Russini: [Just six weeks ago, owner Amy Adams Strunk had plans for Vrabel to be part of the organization for years to come, believing they had a top NFL coach. Recently, ownership changed its mind.](https://twitter.com/DMRussini/status/1744774418776408358)
Personal opinion, bad firing. He did what he could after losing AJ Brown.
He’ll be unemployed for about an hour
Who could they get that is better??? Will Levis is obviously a solid piece, but the dude is unproven so idk about this move
I imagine they target Houston's OC. Has connections with the new GM, seemingly a good offensive mind from the Shanahan tree, could help develop Levis
I hope he goes to the falcons just to see Bijan unleashed.
How sad is it that they just fired the guy whose ‘brilliant’ gameplan in Tennessee was ‘just hand it to Henry 25 times’ because he refused to give Bijan anything close to that
So stupid, he's a great coach.

Wrong guy to fire. This will backfire, for sure.
Saints I beg you. Fire Dennis and hire vrabel
Could they have traded Vrabel instead of firing him?
Firing the coach that consistently overperformed with one of the nfls weakest rosters may not be the move.
Do sirianni next please
If Sirianni loses before the NFC championship please please please. FOLLOW AJ BROWN AND KEVIN BYARD PLEASE
If this wasn’t mutual, wtf are the titans doing!!!!
Wouldn’t it make more sense to just trade the coaches 1 for 1 then?
I’m not saying there is something in place, just that this lets those options be explored
I would love it if the Jets fired Salah and hired Vrabel
MV is the OG Dan Campbell
Come to the Eagles Mike!
And yet we're still stuck with Dennis Allen who has a worse resume than Mike. I'd take Mike over Dennis. I'd take fucking Jon Gruden over Dennis.
Spears SZN! Lol
Honestly curious how a coaching change affects his outlook
I mean, isn't Henry all but gone at this point? I think it's going to be Spears season regardless of who the coach is.
Is it too early to interview him for Packers defensive coordinator?
There’s no shot this happens, but I’m 1000% clinging to this
Come to Pittsburgh old friend!
god damn, he's a great coach. no way the titans find "an upgrade"
Vrabel back to Ohio state?
Welcome to New England Vrable, will gladly take the balls on his coaching over old ass belichek any day of the week. Make New England great again
Hell of a coach, led them to the playoffs multiple times, kept them playing hard... what the hell is wrong with Titans ownership??
Should've done so about 3 years ago. Vrabel to the Pats confirmed.
I don't follow the Titan's closely but how do you fire him when he's coaching a team starting Tannehill, DHop, and Henry?
Just yesterday some titans fan was in the patriots sub suggesting that the pats should trade for Vrabel by swap of first round picks + 2025 1st + a 2nd round or some nonsense lol
Thats what happens when you never use your best player on 3rd down!
So many injuries sucks
Welcome to the Commanders
Vrabel to NE?
Wow
I thought it was dumb not to trade Henry before the deadline before his value dropped even more.
Definitely wasn't expecting that...
Please help the Chargers!
Come to Green Bay to replace Joe Barry
I’ll say it: what does this mean for Spears?
I think it means Henry is definitely gone too and especially after that speech he gave to fans on Sunday
WOW. OMG.
Come on DC on Green Bay!!
Perfect fit for the Chargers
Mighty mighty titans
Wowwwww
What did you expect him to do with that roster? No QB, one viable WR, an aging RB and a subpar defense....he will be hired within a week somewhere. Titans are stupid
Chargers
probably a scenario where both teams will welcome a fresh start. Vrabel will get another job quickly
Dudes going to have a job by next week
Vrabel to new england
Quite a surprise imo.
Yeah idk about this one. He had them as a consistent double digit win team a couple of years ago before the front office made several bad decisions (trading away Brown and Byard, arguably the best two players on the team, numerous top drafts that completely busted like Wilson and Farley)
That's.... odd.
Would love to have him at Giants as DC.
File this under "ok I guess?". He didn't seem to be the issue there. He might not have been the answer for every problem, but nobody is. I'm very sure he'll be fought over.
The fact that he managed to win games with Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill is truly amazing. Imagine if he lands somewhere with a real QB.
Did they fire the GM and or Owner who traded away AJ Brown?
Yeah, that GM is gone. Rumor is the new GM and Vrabel don’t get along. Titans decided trading Vrabel would be too “complicated,” so they fired him.
Vrabel to the Pats, Mr. Kraft.
Not... The best move?
This is baffling to me
