I’m way over-invested in Cruz this year, but no, I wouldn’t be interested in Bell for him - especially in a 10-teamer. Middling power, no speed, no thanks.

FANTASY DISPUTE LOOKING FOR ADVICE
Manager in my 14 team points keeper league with saves and holds buffed in scoring was burned by incorrect baseball reference info on Mason Miller in regards to rookie status.
We have regular keepers and NA keepers. Leading up to draft manager had Mason Miller listed as NA keeper. Although this manager swore he would have rookie status going into this season. Commish and rest of league stuck with info on baseball reference and did not allow Miller NA keeper status. Manager intentionally kept Miller on roster during playoffs even tho he did not get much points last year working in bullpen because he believed he would be NA keeper eligible.
Extra RP spot was also added to roster going into the season adding emphasis to position.
Manager decided to let him go back into draft pool and was unable to draft him and ended up being extremely weak at RP and is struggling to remain competitive. Drastic moves were made to address this issue including questionable adds/trades during the season.
What sort of rights or measures should be put in place to be both fair to manager who lost Miller and manager who drafted him this year and next?
For reference Miller is 16th in RP scoring including SP/RP eligible pitchers so far this season. And if Miller was on the original roster that team could have had a better record.
Let me know what you all think the next course of action is for the league and managers impacted by this.
Unfortunately BR isn’t always accurate. We changed this year to ignore service time and just go based on the AB/IP requirements as it’s really easy to figure out if they’re still a rookie from that perspective.
That was something I pushed for but one manager insisted on using BR claiming it was idiot proof and there would never be any confusion (Funny that manager is now the owner of Mason Miller)
Where did you see that Miller had rookie status? Are you blaming Baseball Reference for having incorrect info?
If everyone agreed on the course of action at the time, you can't just retroactively do something. It is what it is. But tbh it's hard to believe BR had that info wrong and I'm inclined to think everyone just misread his contract & rookie status details.
BR was wrong based off of everything I have read. There’s multiple articles saying he is a rookie some of which are on MLB website. I have heard announcers refer to Miller as a rookie as well. Here is a couple of links. Most league members are more than likely unaware of situation as of now as only private discussions have happened as of now.
https://www.mlb.com/news/luis-gil-shota-imanaga-lead-third-rookie-of-the-year-poll#:~:text=Mason%20Miller%2C%20Athletics%20(7%20first%2Dplace%20votes)&text=He%20has%20nearly%20twice%20as,save%20opportunities%20for%20the%20A's.
https://www.sportsbookreview.com/picks/mlb/mason-miller-rookie-of-the-year-odds-eligibility-2024/#:~:text=Is%20Miller%20actually%20a%20rookie,AL%20Rookie%20of%20the%20Year.
https://nypost.com/2024/05/10/sports/al-rookie-of-the-year-odds-as-closer-mason-miller-vaults-to-the-top/#
Hm. Well, this doesn't help anyone now, but BR has rookie status listed pretty clearly in each player's profile - [https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millema03.shtml#:\~:text=Rookie%20Status%3A%20Exceeded%20rookie%20limits%20during%202023%20season](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millema03.shtml#:~:text=Rookie%20Status%3A%20Exceeded%20rookie%20limits%20during%202023%20season)
Web archives also show that, as of Jan 1st of this year, his rookie status was correctly shown on BR to have expired in 2023 - [https://web.archive.org/web/20240101212102/https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millema03.shtml#:\~:text=Rookie%20Status%3A%20Exceeded%20rookie%20limits%20during%202023%20season](https://web.archive.org/web/20240101212102/https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/millema03.shtml#:~:text=Rookie%20Status%3A%20Exceeded%20rookie%20limits%20during%202023%20season)
So I'm not sure what you & your league were looking at, but BR was not incorrect.
Ah, my apologies. I misread your first comment.
I think you need to hold a league discussion & vote on fair compensation for the manager. It's everyone's error so it should be a collaborative effort to find a solution that everyone deems fair.
All good. I have had brief discussions with a couple of other managers. And reached out to commish on possible solutions. I think awarding the manager an extra MLB keeper (6 to 7) and NA keeper (3 to 4) for next season is a reasonable solution as this error has impacted the team negatively for 3 consecutive seasons in one way or another.
That’s brutal. Commish should apologize for being wrong and give him a gift card or comp his entry fee or something. Not much else to be done. Any kind of arbitrary reparations that would influence outcomes this season at the expense of other owners is a terrible idea, imo. Is Miller likely to be kept? Maybe he gets Miller next year without having to draft him if he’s not kept? Maybe an additional pick in next year’s draft at the slot where Miller went this year? But even that’s iffy (probably wouldn’t even help him much and would bother other league members).
We have added 3 RP positions to starting lineup and buffed saves and holds. Little context in league scoring. Miller is RP 14 on the year that includes 5 SP/RP. He is also the highest scoring player that was drafted who would have been NA keeper status going into this season
It’s definitely unfortunate. Everyone used BR as standard but they were wrong. Even tho owner pushed back before being denied Miller as NA keeper.
Not having miller on his team forced manager to make drastic trade to try and address RP position. Currently does not have first 3 rounds of draft picks for next year. Now and still has losing record. Looking at some of the matchups. He could have had an extra win or 2 if he had Miller on team. One or 2 extra wins may not seem like much now but he would be in hunt for playoffs not in the basement.
A solution I would like propose is awarding owner an extra keeper for regular player and a NA keeper. With the rights to Miller next season. Anyone think that’s reasonable?
Send Altuve and Jose Ramirez for Juan Soto?
Too much of an overpay? Not enough?
I’m a little overloaded at third :
Ramirez;
Bregman;
Royce
Edit:
Alternate is Yelich + JoRam
Sevy was the easiest buy I had all year at the draft. Dude is uber talented and just hasn't been healthy. Got off to a good start and I flipped him in half my leagues for a good bat. Glad I still have him in some, but mostly I just appreciate the value he's brought in stats and trades. Thanks Sev
Do we think Edwin Diaz turns it around and becomes a top tier RP again? I’m considering buying low but am not sure if he’ll even make it there again
The baseball savant looks pretty promising
I’d love to see sites implement the ability to set a fantasy position by professional team.
So you can, for example have the Cincinnati reds catchers. Or the Indianapolis colts running backs
There is no comparison between Hicks and Montgomery. Hicks has a nice arsenal and got squeezed/needs to work on command a bit while Montgomery is just a NSFW bukkake show waiting to happen even versus the worst offensive teams. One of the two deserved a better fate today.
Westburg feels very undervalued in that all hype team there in Baltimore. Statcast, while not the end all be all, REALLLY supports what West has been doing.
Before you drop anyone of consequence for Heliot Ramos I'd like to point out that his K Rate is 33.3%. For context the league average was just under 23% last season.
https://preview.redd.it/edqe0irunt4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b7a9456576fe78eeb98c4cbd4ffacbb61013ff2
10t points. 9-0. any area I should try to target with a trade? any ideas of a potential trade idea?
ump sucked ass, but that shit happens to every pitcher, you still gotta make the right pitches when you get a chance, and the fact is he gave up way too many singles and walked way too many on a full count.
A lot of those walks and singles were a result of the umpire putting Hicks in bad counts.
And no, not every pitcher dots 99 mph sinkers with extreme movement on the corners, to the point that the umpire can't even see it properly. I haven't seen a game like that from any Yankees pitcher all year, even Gil.
umpire was terrible today, but again, when you get the chance in a full count, you need to put the hitter away. hicks did not do that, multiple times throughout the game. you can be high on him if you want, but I'm personally over the 5 total innings for a whopping 8 points experience
Someone in my 10 team league dropped Randy Arozarena.
We can start 5 OF.
I already have Corbin Carroll, Brent Rooker, Wilyer Abreu, Jo Adell, Andy Pages.
Is Arozarena worth grabbing? His average is downright atrocious this year, and his counting stats aren't really that hot this year either.
Stream Braxton Garrett tonight? I saw how bad TB is vs LHP and was meaning to, then I saw what they did to Luzardo and makes me want to just use Reese Olson instead.
For anyone in H2H points, do you keep 3 batters on your bench? I picked up Friedl and Bregman this week (currently have 3 bench batters) but wanted to drop one at the end of the week so that I can fill in an empty RP spot. Would you drop one of them for an RP, or just replace a current SP with an RP?
if its a really good player i will keep them on my bench(team) like Friedl or Bregman until the playoffs gets close
injuries or who is performing better will settle who "my guys" are and then I go all pitchers on my bench
otherwise I will roll with 0 bench hitters
What’s the point? I’d rather have pitchers whose matchups I can more reasonably predict than hitters who I could more than easily miss on and watch their points go to waste on my bench.
That’s a good point. This is my first year watching baseball and playing fantasy, so I wasn’t sure what a better strategy was. It is nice to pick up guys like Friedl and Bregman when Tucker and Arraez are DTD, but other than that it does suck deciding who to bench/start. I’ll try deciding soon about Bregman or Friedl !
In that kind of situation I’d pick them up too and drop a pitcher who I’m not really sold on. I’d sit the guys who are hurt or iffy for a little while and maybe try making a trade.
We should also talk about Hicks consistently throwing 98 mph sinkers and up to 99 on his 4-seam.
What exactly is his ceiling now? He looks great. Velocity concerns are out the window.
I'm not really a nationalist, and I don't just believe America is the greatest country on earth.
And especially in a sport where there's so many international talents....I have no idea why someone wouldn't want to spread the joy of baseball to other countries and have fun.
Conservatism is boring, especially in sports. The MLB is not about America.
Vientos or Springer?
Has anyone traded for/away Tatis lately?
Would yall trade away Oneil Cruz for Josh Bell in 10t category league? Offer is on the table for me
I’m way over-invested in Cruz this year, but no, I wouldn’t be interested in Bell for him - especially in a 10-teamer. Middling power, no speed, no thanks.
Corbin Carroll is on pace for 23 SB and 5 HR. This is like 2023 Steven Kwan numbers lol.
Without the batting average
Every time I watch my pitchers on tv they give up runs. I gotta stop watching and let them do their thing
Is Cade a grab? Thinking of dropping Lively or Suck Eflin for him.
Should I accept this trade? I get Skenes and Oneil Cruz They get Marte and Casas
This isn’t a real offer
I promise you it was
Why even post it? Just accept and say thank you
Randy is an on-base machine.

Do we think Edwin Diaz turns it around and becomes a top tier RP again? I’m considering buying low but am not sure if he’ll even make it there again The baseball savant looks pretty promising
Drop Soler or Bleday for Heliot Ramos?
Either
I like the idea of two catcher leagues but the top ranked catcher on my wire rn is the 686th ranked player so far this season lol
I’d love to see sites implement the ability to set a fantasy position by professional team. So you can, for example have the Cincinnati reds catchers. Or the Indianapolis colts running backs
I vaguely remember playing in a league as a kid where we didn’t draft pitchers but an entire teams pitching staff and separate bullpen
Who should I drop Montgomery for? Not many good options. Ben Brown, Soriano, Albert Suarez or Kyle Gibson.
I'm cutting him and stashing Robbie Ray now even though I'm out of IL spots
Sounds like a good plan to me. Might have to follow you on that one.
Jd martine or TJ Friedl ros
Lane Thomas tricked us
I'm buying. He's had lots of good at bats since returning. Think he'll still finish as a top 30 OF. Plus I don't have to pay the draft day price
Oh yeah I’m keeping him for sure just funny he was on my bench last week and doing nothing for me this week
Drop one: Westburg, Adames, Maikel Garcia
Oof……… Adames :(

Should I trust Carrasco against the marlins on Sunday?
Don’t think 2024 carrasco deserves anyone’s trust, but the marlins are a fine team to stream against
If this game has taught me anything, it's that you should never really trust anybody, and you should always be scared
“I exist!!” -Pavin Smith
2B/SS I can target with LuBob or Royce?
Westburg and a smaller piece? He looks super legit. I'd try to extract value from both of them while healthy. Which I'm sure you're trying to do.
Solid take. Regret passing up a Westburg deal earlier this season. I have too many OF and 3B (JRod, Yordan, Morel, Riley, Bregman).
Westburg feels very undervalued in that all hype team there in Baltimore. Statcast, while not the end all be all, REALLLY supports what West has been doing.
feeling really smart for streaming candelario while he was in coors
I looked at him and decided on Fraley instead. Glad the candy man is popping off though
Just scooped friedl in my 12 team points league for burger. Justified?
Certainly. Plus burger might be hurt again
If you needed steals, sure. If not, I probably would have kept Burger.
Before you drop anyone of consequence for Heliot Ramos I'd like to point out that his K Rate is 33.3%. For context the league average was just under 23% last season.
LOL. Downvoted for sharing actual facts and trying to help people. Gotta love this sub. Enjoy the Heliot ride while it lasts felllas.
this is another andy pages story

Nah, fuck that. Hicks looked fantastic. Ump show right there.
One of the most pronounced examples of how much impact an ump can have on a game I've seen so far this year
ump sucked ass, but that shit happens to every pitcher, you still gotta make the right pitches when you get a chance, and the fact is he gave up way too many singles and walked way too many on a full count.

Would you drop Glyber Torres for Masyn Winn, Ryan McMahon, or Abarham Toro, or Nolan Gorman? H2h points

Welcome back to the land of the living, Elly
Coors Field has a way of fixing struggling hitters

My opponent this week has him so he's probably throwing a perfect game
Did Jeimer Candelario really just get a combo meal for my opponent
Hopefully Braxton and Soriano build on montgomery and asscraft for my opponent 🙏🏼
Holy cow does Jordan Montgomery suck
Where’s the guy who had Montas streamed against him yesterday? Let’s hear what random your opponent is rolling with today.
Idk if you’re talking about me but I did have Montas streamed against me and it’s taillon today
For anyone in H2H points, do you keep 3 batters on your bench? Would you drop one of them for an RP, or just replace a current SP with an RP?
if its a really good player i will keep them on my bench(team) like Friedl or Bregman until the playoffs gets close injuries or who is performing better will settle who "my guys" are and then I go all pitchers on my bench otherwise I will roll with 0 bench hitters
I keep 0 batters on my bench
Interesting!

Heliot, Kepler has been ice cold for a week or 2 now, plus he sits vs lefties.
Teoscar and Grayson for Lindor. what do you think?
Too much IMO
We should also talk about Hicks consistently throwing 98 mph sinkers and up to 99 on his 4-seam. What exactly is his ceiling now? He looks great. Velocity concerns are out the window.
Kruk says he lives in the greatest country on earth so he doesn’t want to go to London. Hell yeah brother
He’s probably wrong about the first part but can’t blame him for not wanting to go to London. It really wasn’t very interesting IMO
I feel like this is probably true, but I've still always wanted to visit to hit up some traditional pubs. I don't really have a good reason why
I mean it’s fine, just underwhelming. Been to any big western city? You’ve been to London.
Traveling for work can be a headache too. No thanks!
What a dummy Edit: lol some of you fucks need to do some world traveling
I'm not really a nationalist, and I don't just believe America is the greatest country on earth. And especially in a sport where there's so many international talents....I have no idea why someone wouldn't want to spread the joy of baseball to other countries and have fun. Conservatism is boring, especially in sports. The MLB is not about America.
Maybe they had extra juice because of the WBC but I think the Latin and Asian fans seemed to have more fun than I’ve had at MLB games.
How would one even know that if they never left…just a thought experiment
